THE GREATEST FINALE EVER
-That was AWESOME. Best finale ever. Brad Womack is
my new hero. Finally, FINALLY, a Bachelor that told
us the truth. Finally a Bachelor that didn't try to
convince not only the viewing audience, but himself as
well, that he actually fell madly in love with someone
in 6 weeks on a TV show. Finally a Bachelor that
actually had the balls to tell each girl essentially,
"Look, I like you a lot, I've invested a lot of time
in getting to know you, but I'm sorry, I don't love
you and I ain't gonna sit here and pretend I do just
so ABC has a happy ending." Good for him. You know
what I think? I think Brad should be the Bachelor
next season as well so we can find this fine young
gentleman a wife. Judging by all past columns this
season, you could tell I was never really hard on Brad
because he actually came across as someone that wasn't
intereted in fame or prestige out of this. But if I
ever did happen to say anything bad about the guy, I
take it back. He's the greatest. Bring him back,
ABC. I can handle back to back seasons of Brad
because at least I know he's honest.
-I'm sure there are a lot of hopeless romantics out
there that are disappointed in the finale and think
Brad is a jerk now, but let me ask you this: Can you
imagine if they had the long, drawn out 2 hour
finale, each girl flying home to his hometown to meet
his family, watching him take more than 10 seconds to
pick out the ring, on and on and on and on, and then
he dumped both of them? You people would've been even
more livid than you are now. The fact that this
season was never about hyping up the finale, or
teasing us with "The most romantic finale ever", or
"Will he propose/Will she accept?" promos, kind of
gave it away that something like this would happen,
didn't it? I mean, c'mon, you had to see this coming.
I'm glad they did it this
way. The brevity of it gave away the ending pretty
much, but still, I'd rather see the guy dump both
girls, then give the ol' "This is a promise
ring....let's see where this goes..." line only to
have
them break up in a month.
-The "double dumping", as I'd like to call it, was
clearly in the making as evidenced by two things
imparticular:
1) The finale was only an hour long. They've NEVER
done this before. Ever. And you know what? Good for
them. Two hours of that fluff to watch him sh** can
both girls would've been a giant letdown. I
mean, each girl meeting his mom and brothers lasted no
more than 5 minutes. They made 15 minute segments out
of that in the past. He shopped for the ring for 10
seconds, when usually, that takes a whole segment.
They knew obviously since they ended taping the show
what the final result was. So why try and hype it up
all season and mislead us into thinking something good
might happen? You gotta admit, the ABC hype machine
surrounding what could possibly happen at the end was
pretty low. We never heard ANY of that stuff they
used to promote in the past. Hell, last season, from
episode one, they were promoting that there was a
proposal. So you gotta give them credit for their
work this season. Perfect ABC. You finally did
something right.
2) When Brad practically dry heaved before dumping
DeAnna. Yeah, she probably felt really good after he
walked away from her right on the "altar". Awesome.
Loved every minute of it. In fact, I think I wanna go
watch that ending again. Seriously.
-Now, I didn't read any spoilers and I had no idea
this was coming, but one thing really stuck out to me
since the "Women Tell All" episode last week. Did you
notice that Brad never gave the "I can't wait to see
her. It's been so long. It's been very hard being
away from her" line like all past Bachelors do. He
just said, "I'm happy with my decision." I heard him
say the same exact thing on a radio interview. So
looking back on it now, it all makes perfect sense.
Every Bachelor in the past has always talked about how
excited he was to see who he chose again, they talk
all the time, yada yada yada. And when Brad never
said last week how excited he was to see "her", I
figured something was up. And oh yeah, those rumors
that Brad was calling and texting his ex-girlfriend
during filming saying he wasn't into any of these
girls? Ummmm...guess that wasn't so far fetched.
-I hope a lot of you aren't getting the impression
that I'm jaded or that I'm evil, or that I pray for
relationships to fail. I don't. Not at all. I'm
just elated that finally some Bachelor had the balls
to say, "Look, I'm sorry. The 25 women you chose for
me? Not good enough. I think I can do better." And
that's essentially what he did. For those of you who
are disappointed/letdown/pissed/bothered by the
finale, let me ask you this: Would you rather Brad
have chosen one of them knowing he wasn't in love with
her, only to break up with them in a month or two? If
that happened, you know what your reaction would've
been? "Yeah, that's a real shocker. I can't believe
I wasted another season watching this show. It never
works out. This show sucks. Blah blah blah..."
-Now we get a Bachelor who dumps both women and I'm
sure the majority of the fans reaction is, "What a
jerk. Why'd we even watch if he wasn't going pick
one? They misled us." So he's damned if he does, and
damned if he doesn't. I don't know, maybe I'm in the
minority, but I can honestly say I was more satisfied
with that finale than any other finale this show's
ever had. Why? Because it was the most real. And
that's all I ask for. I hate phoniness, and we've
pretty much been subjected to fourteen seasons of it
outside of a couple.
-You know what this finale does do, though? Makes
tonights "After the Final Rose" show about as
interesting as they've ever had. I'm telling you, I'm
still not even sure what his reasoning was for
dropping both chicks. But it'll sure be fun to watch
him try to explain again tonight. This'll be the
first time in the show's history that the "After the
Final Rose" show was better than the finale. Can't
wait. I'll definitely be back tomorrow with a comment
or two on the show.
-So even though we didn't get a proposal, or even a
promise ring, I feel rejuvenated to know that ABC is
actually willing to go through with a season even if
the Bachelor doesn't choose anyone. So now we at
least know that there's a chance of this happening
again. I guess it never crossed our mind that this
could happen since it never did. But hey, I'd much
rather get this ending then all the B.S. ones from the
past where someone gets a one-way ticket, or a promise
ring, and 2 months later, they're done. Yay Bachelor.
You've now moved into my top 50 of favorite shows of
all time.
-So I'll be back tomorrow with some comments on the
"After the Final Rose" show. Probably won't be much.
And maybe I'll respond to a couple of "That finale was
bullsh**" emails that I'm sure I'll be getting. So
I'd really like to get a read on what you guys thought
of the finale. Are you disappointed you watched all
season only to get the "double dumping", or do you
like Brad more now because he was honest? I'm curious
to know your thoughts. Get your emails in today at
steve@realitysteve.com, so I can relay the "results"
in tomorrow's column.
-And due to the fact that I'm vacationing right now in
California with family, and I've been running around
like my heads chopped off since Friday, I've postponed
Dr. Reality Steve a week. It will definitely be back
next week along with the return of "Reality Roundup".
I've really gotta talk about what's been going on
elsewhere in the world of reality TV. Lotta good
stuff right now. Ok, time to go to bed. Until
tomorrow....

I'm trying to see who would most people pick if this was like an American Idol type competition, so I made it into a poll here:
http://www.pollsb.com/polls/poll/3889/the-bachelor-s-brad-womack-chooses-not-to-choose-but-if-you-had-to-choose-who-would-it-be
Yes, I see your point...don't pick someone if it's not there, BUT I don't see him as so marvelously honest. Look at the promos of him saying he had found the one, picking a ring, and the urging the girls to spill their guts. This is a stupid show. Why am I still watching? Breathe deeply...it's a fake show for entertainment...it's a fake show for entertainment.
I love the ending!!! The look on their faces priceless. I am not shocked and I agree with Steve..ABC bravo BRAVO for finally getting a real bachelor!
I dont think Brad was honest at all. WHy would he continue to ask Deanna and Jenni to tell him how they feel and get them all emotional only so he could completely humilitate both of them on national tv. Why would he have bought a ring if we wasnt going to propose? If he was honest he would at least have wanted to continue a relationship with Deanna even if he didnt propose, like previous bachelors have done. I think he is a jerk!
As a female, I think it's fine that he didn't pick one. What I don't think is fine though was his "walk away, hyperventilate" moment. He's the one doing the dumping after encouraging them to share how they felt about him, so he needed to man up and not be such a baby about it when he was the one ultimately hurting her feelings.
LOVED IT!!! I think he was right on to not pick one & then dump them in a month or two!! Great job Brad!!!
STEVE I love your column!!!! I absolutely agree with it all....ALL OF IT. I love that Brad dumped both chics... it's really ridiculous when they do the promise ring crap... and even more ridiculous when they so called propose just to break up a few weeks later. I'm glad Brad realized that before that type of crap went down... Still I don't think it was a waste of time to watch.. sure he got on my nerves...but this finale more than made up for that. Loved it!!!!
I knew Brad was a "real" gentleman from the beginning. Way to go Brad!
Ya, I stayed up till like 2am watching the Final Rose on my DVR for WHAT???? I would love to have seen the producers face and reaction on that one behind the camera... I would like to see "The Producers, the final Rose" Show. And I'm betting that they have a Bachelorette show next time...
Too bad they had to sleep with him huh? What a waste of time that was and oh ya... I bet Bettina's jaw was dropped to the floor last night along with the rest of us!
I bet somewhere last night, Hilary was watching and thinking he turned both girls away because he loves HER instead. LOL.
I never saw any chemistry develop between Brad and anyone. Every moment seemed like a blind date that would never end. Last night I watched the finale of WEEDS from 10:00-10:30 when I tuned into The Bachelor Deanna was proclaiming her love in a way that made me too uncomfortable to watch. Later I tuned in for the last 10 minutes as he was putting Jenni in the limo. When he had to walk away from ground zero because he was having a panic attack I totally cracked up and I am still chuckling every time I think about it. Run Brad Run!
No Bettina's jaw wasn't dropping...for those of you who haven't heard, at the WTA they had to re-tape the segment where the girls all nominate a "Winner" three times because Betinna answered "neither," until the producers "strongly suggested" in her ear that she say Deanna.
Also, I had a strong suspicion that he didn't pick anyone, so during the entire show i was listening carefully to his statements for any evidence of "doubletalk" or to see if what he was saying could coincide with him not actually picking anyone. And if you will go back and watch it, you will see that he does give compliments to each girl, but he doesn't ever say that he wants to spend the rest of his life with either of them.
fyi, Brad was as used and abused as the girls. The word is that he has been royally p-o'ed by the editing and the lies and how everything played out. I guarantee you the producers tried every ploy they could to get him to pick someone. I join Steve's glowing review by saying this was by far my favorite FRC yet (well, next to Trista) because he had the guts to stand up and be honest in the end. You can't judge him too much for things that happenned along the way because it takes awhile to figure out how things are going down behind the scenes. In fact during Andy's season it was reported that the producers were joking one night about how "Andy actually still thinks that he is in control, ha-ha-ha..."
Way to go Brad. What a man. Wondering tho....down the road if he doesn't hook up with one of the Girls.
That was amazing. I loved it. So which one of these girls will be the next Bachelorette...? But, really, ABC please just stop the madness, move on and help save us all from ourselves, because, as inexplicable as it is, we just can't stop watching it!
I don't care that he chose neither but I am just floored that he basically said "you know what? Not only do I not want to marry you, I don't even want to date you..see ya! Wow. Poor DeAnna. She totaly lit up like Christmas when he said "I just sent Jenni home".
I just wanna know what happened to the ring?
We forget sometimes that The Bachelor is a fairy tale told after the fact, and if people are mad at the ending, they just didn't read the story right. Three people were hurt badly three months ago, and it was painful to watch.
All season we pick apart the editing to figure things out and then forget that that same editing/creativity is in place for the finale. Five days crammed into 50 minutes - I guess we missed a few details.
Good for Brad. He was the least produced bachelor yet. Great show! Great bachelor! Great ladies!
Great review!
Bren, if you stayed up "til like 2am" to watch teh show, then you started it at like 1am because it was only one hour. Its not like they dragged it out, it was short and to the point- as it should have been!
several off topic-ish items on my mind:
* the ending would have been perfect if they had shown deanna knocking on jenni's door at the hotel.
* at the FRC, jenni should have taken one look at brad's red eyes and known her outcome.
* it thought brad was a p*ssy telling deanna that "he HAS to walk her to the car right now. has to", in order to get rid of her.
* wonder when they told jenni that he didn't pick either of them.
* both of these women did it, and other women in past seasons...but when did it become acceptable to wear jeans when first meeting your new in-laws and family? maybe i'm showing my age with this one.
* call me naive...but didn't he even want to consider dating either of these women?
thanks for reading my rants!
Ya, I'm saving the ending to show my friend that is into comedy..so we can laugh.
It is was one of the BEST FINALES I have ever seen. That walk around the podium was priceless. I laugh so hard I nearly cried. The hours of sleuthing done by those on the boards only to find out that it was all for nothing, priceless. ABC gave me the best laugh and entertainment I have had in a long while.
I think Brad rocks for having the guts to be honest despite all the saps wanting a romantic thrill. All too often people cheapen the phrase "i love you" by just throwing it out there without actually feeling it or meaning it. Proposing to someone is a big deal and this Texan for one gets that.
I also think even though he thought Deanna was pretty he found something in her manner offputting - she came across too unemotional/hard to the point of being insincere, like it was more about winning.
Actually, Brad's friend and business partner, Jason, who posts as "babyfaceC" on the Fansofrealitytv website, (and this has been confirmed by long time posters on the FORT website who actually met Brad and Jason in one of their bars in Austin,) has said that Brad is happy with the edit - even of last night's show. So whomever thought that they'd heard he was unhappy with the edit, the producers and the lies, it's just not so.
I have no objection to Brad choosing no one. He was just so unnecessarily cold to DeAnna when he was breaking up with her, and if you listen to the words he was actually saying, he was far more concerned about her accepting him and his feelings than he was about her and her feelings. And I totally agree about him needing to man up and face his decision. As soon as DeAnna starts asking the hard questions, "Uh, I have to take you to the limo right now." Then, he has the nerve to question why she's "closing him out" as he's sending her away forever.
Yeah - a real stand up guy that one.
I was impressed with Brad's honesty and ability to articulate himself throughout the season. But, was very disappointed to see that he was completely unable to articulate himself at the FRC. I think when you have brought the 2 of them all the way to that point, they deserve a real explanation. I understand why he didn't propose and why he wouldn't necessarily be in love after that short amount of time, but why wouldn't he consider dating one of them to "see what happens"?
The only explanation could be that there must be an ex-gf in the picture still. It's definitely hard to let your heart open up when you are still thinking about someone else.(There's got to be someone worth dating in a group of 25 great women)
Obviously the producers had some idea of what Brad's feelings were since they didn't fly the girls to Texas for his hometown meetings and brought his family to California instead.
I'm interested to see what Brad has to say at the ATFR show. Hopefully, he can provide enough of an explanation (even if it's in private backstage or something) to both Jenni and Deanna so that they can both move on.
Love you Steve- I've been a longtime fan.
With the exception of Bob Guiney , and Andrew Firestone who is engaged, isn't it a little strange that not one of the other Bachelors has gone on to get married? At least half of these guys must be gay and all of them go on the show to promote themselves or their business. The show could be good if they just cast it properly.
I have to comment. Some of you are saying he seemed cold & you can't believe some of the things he says and in the sequence he says them. The thing is the editing makes it seem that way,but it's not. It makes much more sense that he said goodbye to Deanna first-thus the walking off the podium to get the nerve up-the first time he had to do it. They never show his face with the voice over "I just let Jenni go". I don't think he said that TO Deanna. He said it after he let Jenni go and they spliced it in while he was talking to Deanna. I would think she would have smiled or had a look of relief or something after he said it, and she didn't. He had to walk Deanna out "right now" because the interns/producers were prompting him to walk her out because Jenni's limo was on the way.....see what I mean? It is all in the editing folks.....
I’m ok with brad being indifferent to both of them. However, I do think he led them on and wasn’t honest with them. If they had had some inkling of his indifference, would they both profess their love for him? It seems that he was kinder to whiney hillary – forewarning her by dropping the F word, even though she was too much of a klunk head to realize it.
finally it was the most shocking rose ceremony ever. i actually admire brad for not caving to the pressures of abc or getting caught up in the delusionalo whirlwind of the show. i am looking forward to him doing some serious explaining. i wonder if he did indeed tell jenni he was not picking deanna either, if she was led to think that she had lost to deanna for two plus months. this has been the only bachelor i have truly liked. he is a solid guy and his actions, while dissapointing from a delusional-" i believe lasting love can happen in six weeks on a reality show despite 13 prior seasons showing otherwise fog" i hope that abc now pulls their heads outa their arses and revamps the show or at least people like me get a life and stop watching-prob not honestly speaking-but bottom line-i support brad!!!
I guess it never crossed our mind that this could happen since it never did.
**Except it did ... when Jen Scheff dumped both guys on The Bachelorette. So Brad's not exactly a pioneer.
It WOULD have crossed our minds had me not acted so giddy and thrilled to see and be with them.
I think Brad made a bet with some buddies that he could make it through the season and do just this. Who would go through that and say all those things of feelings. If he were a real man he would have cut the show off before he slept with at least 3 of them on the romantic dates near the end. He got it and ran.
Also known as, hit it and quit it.
And this column is why I LOVE Reality Steve! If you're in the minority, I'm right there with you! I'm glad he was honest... finally, a real ending. And I'd like to see him back again... hey, Flav-a-flav and New York got to search for love twice... why not Brad!!!!!
I knew from the first show and a few of his interviews that this show was going to stink. First of all, his character ain't so great if he runs sleazy bars. People in Austin don't really care for the guy or his trashy lure college kids in bars. His mother being divorced four times ain't so great either. So he has problems. The other thing is how utterly boring he is. He jogs. He works. He pumps iron. He jogs. He works. He pumps iron. Does he read? This show sucked big time on every level.
The Greatest Finale ever. Who are you kidding unless you simply watch the show for the train wreck and to make fun of people. Hopefully Brad will spend the rest of his life alone or just bar hopping. I for one never want to see the boring self-centered man again. Why didn't you mention Brad's lack of education and his really tacky way of letting the girls go. Supposedly he picked Deanna and her father even flew in then he got cold feet. I don't have any respect for him or the silly reality show.
Do I have this straight: Mr. Integrity is seriously planning to propose to his beloved DeAnna right up until the big point-of-reckoning, so therefore he's still a Great Guy because he cooed and billed and told DeAnna (and Jenni, for that matter) just how very much he's missed them and can't stand to be apart from them for even a day (Isn't that what he said during the Meet the Womacks segment?) But, gosh, golly, gee - on second thought - he really didn't care to ever see DeAnna again? GoodBye-Kaput-There's-Your-Limo and Please-Tell-Me-What-A-Good-Boy-I-Still-Am???
Sorry, not buying it. He's no George Washington.
I agree with all you said Steve, and in addition I would like to add, that I feel one of the main reasons he didn't make a choice, was that he felt so much for both women, he knew in his heart it would be disingenuous to propose to the one he "loved best", as this still meant he had love for Jennie. When a man ask a woman to be his wife, it should be that he loves her, and her alone. He was still reeling from saying good-bye to Jennie, and all of a sudden he knew, though he had planned to ask Deanna, that it would be wrong to propose, when he had a broken heart for another.
Good for him!!!!

The only thing that could have made this the best show ever is to put DeANNA in the same limo as Jen, while she is still having her breakdown. They could have split a bottle of champagne and asked wtf all the way to the hotel...or as we see DeANNA walking w/out her shoes on (what was the point of that?) down the hall, jenni could have been bringing her luggage out of her room going to check out and they could have discussed their mutual dumping!!
He was going to propose to DeAnna - you heard Chris say most people don't know this but Brad had DeAnna's dad flown out to ask permission first so up until the last minute he bailed i.e. C'Phobe. If he thought "he might" propose which is HUGE then why not "date" to make sure. If he's just not "feeling it" i understand that but he was "feeling it enough" to almost propose and have her dad flown out. Makes zero sense. I think he has issues and he was not sincere. Whatever.
Just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it wasn't sincere!! I've been in relationships where we were supposedly the "perfect" couple.
He was everything I wanted, I was everything he wanted in a life long spouse. It ended badly. Why?
Because we didn't have the "magic," the "spark," that something extra that makes it true love but we fooled ourselves into believing that we did. So instead of getting out before breaking any hearts we strung it out until we both had so much of ourselves invested in a doomed relationship.
So I say Good for you Brad!!
Applause! I think you should post this column on some Bachelor message boards. I've been into a couple and wow, just wow. The way some people are acting you'd think he'd broken up with them.
Happy endings are great but only if the person doing the choosing is picking someone because they actually see some potential for a real relationship with, not because they have to. I'm amazed someone was actually willing to do this and put themselves out there for the bashing when they could have done the easy out pick of Bachelors past.
I think the guy actually wanted to pick someone, that's what he was there to do, that's why he was pushing the women to spill their guts. He was probably hoping to hear something that would allow him to feel like he could follow through. Obviously didn't work. I don't know if he was forced to go buy the ring or actually still believed he was going to go through with it. Ah well, best of luck to all three of them. I'm sure they will be fine once all of the chatter dies down. God knows how long that will take though, some people are really pissed!
It's "in particular" not "imparticular". Hello???!!!
