BACK FROM HIATUS

I promise things will be written here soon. After a month of doing work related things, and being in NY and LA all last week, I'm pretty much back in the full swing of things. Still need to get caught up on a few shows that are still tivo'ed, but other than that, I'm going to start writing more. So here a few things I wanted to talk about before coming back later this week with a full "Reality Roundup":

-So we know our Bachelor now is Matt Grant, a 27 year old from the UK. Something I had read back in January before filming started, but I wasn't 100% sure, so I decided to hold back on it. Just know that when it was announced, I had a big grin on my face. Not because we have a British Bachelor, but that it's because I'm sure it'll be just as awful as previous seasons. I found it very convenient that in ABC's press release of him, there is no mention whatsoever about his acting aspirations. They're talking about him being an entrepreneur, and all into finances, and big money, and he works multi-million dollar deals every day blah blah blah....the fact is this guy has been in movies over in the UK, and he's since moved here so he can become the next Hugh Grant - without the $40 bj's from ugly hookers. The trailer for his movie USED to be on YouTube, but that was also conveniently taken down recently. Shocker.

-So "American Idol" offically gets underway tonight with the men in the final 24 performing, and already there's controversy over some of the contestants having prior record deals. Kristy Lee Cook, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, and Robbie Carrico have all had record deals in the past, but went nowhere with their careers. And David Archuleta, the 16 year old who looks about 10, won "Star Search's" singing competition a few years back. Who cares? Taylor Hicks had put out CD's before ever appearing on "Idol". So had Kelly Clarkson. But there's a reason no one bought them - because they never had a built in audience of 30 million people. "Idol's" rule has only been that you couldn't currently be under contract with anyone when on the show. None of these kids are, so I don't see where a past record deal matters. There's nothing "professional" about Carly Smithson having already recorded in a studio before. Doesn't mean she'll win. Doesn't mean she won't. Carrie Underwood had never been on a plane before, let alone perform in front of millions, and she beat out Bo Bice who had been in a band for God knows how long, and had way more experience than her. Here's a novel concept: Watch them all perform, then vote for who you think is the best. And even then, everyone will still have differing opinions - which is the exact reason why "Idol" is the #1 show on television every season.

-Our "Dancing with the Stars" cast was released last night, and for the first time, I've actually heard of over half of these people. This show will never pull any A-listers, or B-listers for that matter, but to get a guy who's still currently playing in the NFL (and one of the best defensive players in the league) is pretty big. I can make the "How can Marlee Matlin" hear the music joke like everyone else is making today, but I won't other than to say that if it really was an issue, then they wouldn't have cast her. Can't go wrong with Shannon Elizabeth and her giant cans prancing around out there. Will she do any of her routines topless like in "American Pie"? Please say "yes". But of course, what DWTS season wouldn't be complete without some obscure actor/actress that was popular 20 years ago? Ladies and gentleman, I give you.....Steve Guttenberg. I mean, wow. Steve Guttenberg? Really? Was Judd Nelson not available? Let's just say this could be the best thing to happen to Guttenbergs career since, well, EVER. Although seriously, can doing the cha-cha-cha in front of 20 million people weekly ever top bringing Johnny 5 back to life in "Short Circuit"? Didn't think so.

-There's much more to get to with the Gauntlet 3, "Survivor", "Celebrity Apprentice", "Celebrity Rehab", Scott Baio, and "Rock of Love 2". Those will be covered later this week. Let me get caught up on my Tivo, recover from a little jet lag, and I'll come back later this week with some more ramblings. Until then....

Thanks for setting the record straight on the Matt Grant thing, before ABC starts serving up GALLONS of FAIRY TALE ROMANCE-brand KOOL-AID.
