I’m going to pull a Brad Womack here and steal a couple of his phrases for a moment. Can I be honest with you? I truly mean this from the bottom of my heart. I actually want to see Brad and Emily make it. I really do. I don’t even care that it may cost me an expensive wedding gift. I’ve got nothing against them. But saying I want to see them succeed is a hell of a lot different than saying they will. They’ve obviously got some major obstacles to overcome, and judging by what I saw on that stage last night, wow, they’ve got some serious things they need to deal with. In the last twelve hours, I’d say it’s running about 80/20 against them. And boy, has the public turned on Emily. Yikes. I mean, we all knew the sweet innocent Southern Belle act was probably exaggerated for TV, but holy smokes, it was like we were watching a completely different woman on screen last night. Kind of a bitch at times, no? The one thing I will give both of them credit for last night is at least it was honest. I actually don’t really need to see the final couple come out and talk about how in love they are, and everythings great, and we can’t wait to get married and start our life together, only to be broken up months later. Brad and Emily at least admit they have some major issues to deal with and not everything is great all the time. So I respect the honesty.
Starting with his talk with Chantal, I think the lead is ALWAYS put in a bad position when they’re up there talking to the final two person. This idea of “Why did you take me to the finals if you knew it wasn’t me” is a bunch of crap. First off, Chantal really doesn’t care as much as she claimed to that night. I mean, c’mon. That was four months ago and she’s already moved on and is happy as a clam. Really? She’s that bothered by something that happened on the show? I can’t imagine she is, BUT, I get why she acted the way she did. It’s TV. Like I told you, there’s no way they were gonna let her go on there and NOT confront Brad with questions and just be like, “Hope you guys are happy, I’m good, I’ve got a great guy in my life, and I wish you guys the best.” Sorry, doesn’t work that way. Chantal is smart enough to know that she needs to bring up certain things on camera for the sake of the show, or else they’ve got nothing. But she’s with someone else now. Who cares what Brad’s answers are? Not going to change anything in her life.
As for the notion he took her to the finals even though he always knew it was Emily, well, SOMEONE has to go to the finals. They have a television show to produce. If Brad knew on night one he wanted Emily, he still had to go through every 1-on-1, group date, and 2-on-1 for the next few weeks. They can’t just stop filming and have a one episode season. I don’t understand the ignorance when it comes to people getting upset at the lead for dumping someone at the final two. If it wasn’t Chantal, it would’ve been Ashley. Or Michelle. Or Shawntel. Whatever the case, in 21 seasons, there’s ALWAYS been two people in the finals, and at least one of them is leaving disappointed. I don’t see why this season is any different than previous seasons? Why, because Chantal told him “If you don’t want me, then let me go?” Well, maybe he wanted her more than he wanted the others, but not as much as he wanted Emily? Kind of a ridiculous argument when you think about it. The final two will always want to know, “Well when did you know?” I’m sure Brad knew at least midway through the process he wanted to be with Emily, but he had to go through with filming. And Chantal just happened to be the unfortunate one that got taken to the end. Doesn’t matter anyway. She’s found a new man and moved on. I guarantee if Chantal was being honest, she would’ve rather not appeared on the ATFR since it basically accomplished nothing. Happens every season and will continue to happen as long as the show is on the air.
So once Chantal leaves stage, then the weirdness begins. That couldn’t have been a more awkward uncomfortable last 45 minutes if they tried. So many contradictions and things that made me scratch my head I don’t know where to begin. Lets start with just Chris and Brad alone in the chairs together when its revealed that Brad and Emily have already broken up once. Ok, that’s fine and dandy, but then what in the world was all this talk about possibly trying to get married in Anguilla, then it changed to they were going to get married last Tuesday at the taping? Huh? On what level does that make the least bit of sense considering their admission that things have been a little rough and communication hasn’t been great? It’s almost like Brad is trying so hard to prove to America that he’s a changed man and is so happy he chose someone this time it’s like, “I’ll show em’. I’m gonna marry her right now just so we don’t have to listen to critics tear us down.” Actually, I think they would’ve gotten criticized MORE if they had gotten married over the past three months or on the show last Tuesday. That was about as random as you can get. I feel like he wants to be married so bad, that he’s trying much, much too hard.
