Your episode-by-episode spoilers for “Bachelor Pad 2” are in a link at the top of the page, or or click here. You’ve been warned.
A few interview links for you here to get you all revved up for this season of “Bachelor Pad 2.” The Kasey/Vienna/Jake stuff will be talked about a lot this column because, well, that’s pretty much what the show focused on for 3 hours last night. Below I’ve linked to an interview that each of them did with WetPaint.com last week in regards to their thoughts on the upcoming seasons. Jake couldn’t be more phony and Kasey wants to kick his ass essentially. Good stuff. Plus, as a bonus, the first link I have here, since I didn’t post a Friday column last week, is Ashley and JP’s first media conference call after the finale last week. So everyone still with those two still on their brain can read what they had to say about the season. Here are the links:
For those not following on Twitter yesterday, you missed where I was able to confirm that Ben F. went out on a date this past Saturday night in San Francisco with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Long time readers of this site know that, for years, I’ve always had a crush on JLH. It started all the way back with “Party of Five” and will probably last my entire life. Always had a thing for her, even have a couple funny stories from about 10 years ago regarding me, her phone number, and a group of us all huddled around my phone, but we won’t get into that. Anyway needless to say, hearing that she went on a date with Ben Saturday night was crushing. I thought we had something real, Jennifer? I’ve been asking you out in my mind for the last 10 years, yet Wine Boy goes on TV and he gets a date 5 days after his finale airs? How fair is that? How can you do this to me, sweetcakes? I’m hurt.
Now, Ben can deny it all he wants, and make jokes about it on Twitter, but it happened. He knows it, I know it, and the people who were hanging out with them at Lion’s Pub in Pacific Heights know it. I don’t get this guy’s act. Why not just admit to it rather than avoid it? I have no idea if him seeing JLH for one night means anything in regards to his possible “Bachelor” status for next season, all I reported was they went out. Hell, just look at JLH’s twitter account over the last three weeks. You can see how the whole relationship developed. She’s been tweeting non stop on Monday nights how much she likes the guy and he was her favorite, then last Monday she tells her followers (whom she calls “Lovelys”…puke) to get Ben to follow her, Ben finally starts following her on Tuesday, she freaks out, they exchange tweets, and next thing you know, she’s up in San Fran on Saturday and they’re on a date. Geez, is she stalking him? Those tweets were borderline obsessive. Sure, I might be writing this all out of jealousy and my 10 year fantasy was just ruined by a D-list reality guy, but hey, I can still dream, right? Anyway, all I wanted to do was let you know they went out on a date Saturday night. No idea what it means, no idea where it’s going, and no idea how long it’ll last. But if her track record in the dating world is any indication, this will be over sooner rather than later. And it looks like Ben is taking full advantage of his “celebrity” status from this show, albeit at the expense of my heart being stomped on. You bastard.
One last thing to point out before we get started. Just because the “Bachelor Pad” ran a commercial last night telling people to apply to “be on our next Bachelorette”, doesn’t mean it’s happening next season. For the 1000th time in the last month – the “Bachelor” will begin filming in September, end right before Thanksgiving, and begin airing the first week of January, just like it has for the last four seasons. The “Bachelorette” will film from March through May of next year and begin in May just like IT has for the last few seasons as well. And no, the “Bachelorette” will not be Emily for the 1001st time. Hope we’ve cleared all that up. Final casting for the “Bachelor” was this past weekend in at the LAX Sheraton, filming is set to begin in mid-September, and trust me, I’m already ahead of the game. Once the show begins taping, then I’ll start releasing information. Be patient. On to last night…
Lets start by reminding everyone that the BP recaps are not going to be like the “Bachelor/ette” ones. Not nearly as long, and I don’t sit down and take nearly as many notes. It’s more an overview of the episode pointing out some things here and there. It goes without saying that last night’s 3 hours could’ve easily been done in 2 hours. They wanted a big premiere, they obviously wanted to focus on the Jake/Vienna storyline, but c’mon, it was complete overkill. For those wondering, that’s the only 3-hour episode of the season. Everything else will be two. They just figured for whatever reason, they wanted to spend a ton of time on the Jake/Vienna stuff because I guess they thought people loved the drama. It worked for a little while, but then got real old, real fast. You notice that all the hometown videos and the limo exits weren’t completely finished until we were 50 minutes into the show? So yeah, they could’ve sped that up and not spent 45 minutes on the strategizing either. But whatever. It’s over and done with, so lets focus on some of things I noticed.
The hometown videos were quite funny, but immediately right off the bat, let me get this off my chest regarding Rated R Rego. As you all remember, Justin did about a 90 minute interview with me for the website last summer where he vehemently denied ever having a girlfriend during Ali’s season. Every question I asked regarding it, and questioning the voicemails he left her etc, he answered. Watching last night, that was the first time I’ve heard him actually admit it he did have a girlfriend, so I was no doubt disappointed. I’ve removed the interview from the site considering it’s all B.S. now. You try and help people out, you try and give them their say and the benefit of the doubt, and that’s how they repay you. I wanna say I’m surprised at how Rego played me for “airtime”, but I’m not. It’s par for the course. I’d say 90% of the people involved with this franchise are egomaniacs that have completely lost touch with reality and have a much higher opinion of themselves than they should. A lot of phonies, a lot of people that tell you things to your face, and then turn around and say the complete opposite to other people, and basically can be a bunch of pretentious a**holes with no care in the world but themselves. So be it.
It’s getting harder and harder to figure out who’s real and who’s not, which is why I try to not befriend many of them. It’s difficult. Trust me. You think you know someone and then you hear things they tell others and you’re like, “Really? Wow. Total missed the boat on them.” Hell, take Rego for example. We were never close, but I’d like to think giving the guy an opportunity to defend himself for 90 minutes, when everyone in America thought he was a complete douche, would account for something. And it’s not like I was 100% sold on everything he said in the interview. I mean, I was told the other side by the girl that was involved, so it was just a matter of who to believe. However, I do think he came across a lot better in that interview than he did on the show. Then he pisses all over our interview by what he said last night. Unreal. I fully expect I’ll never get an apology from the guy, and that’s disappointing. I want to like him and give the guy a chance, but after last night, I don’t see how that’s possible. I have people from this franchise I would consider friends, and they know who they are, but others are flat out self-centered bad people. So to those who are friends, I thank you and please don’t change. The others? Whatever. They know who they are, what they’ve done, and what they’ve said. I’ve removed myself from any situation from people I feel are dishonest or are just out to promote themselves.
Some of my thoughts on some of the other hometown videos:
Michelle: Awful to hear what her father is going through. Apparently things aren’t getting much better either from what I hear which makes it even worse. Thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family. If you’re looking further down the road at the finale, not that Michelle is looking for sympathy votes on however they decide to do the finale, but you gotta think that it could play a role and people will want to see her win the money.
Gia: I gave my thoughts on Gia last Tuesday and how I’m still confused as to why she’d even do the show again after what happened last time. Well, at least she had a sense of humor about it with her notepad rundown of everything that’s gone on in her life since she appeared on the “Bachelor.” Quite the drama, but she was a good sport about it. However, quite ironic that she called Vienna for being all about herself and out for fame. Isn’t this the third show Gia has been on in the last 18 months? Like I’ve said, if these people want to go on TV to promote their career, that’s perfectly fine. Just don’t pretend that it’s not your motivation.
Kasey: Without a doubt, had the line of the night in his hometown video when talking about Jake saying, “I’ll take a Jake, and wipe my Pavelka.” Awesome. Kasey is going to be the Russell Hantz of this season: controlling the game from day 1, thinking strategy over anything else every day, yet doesn’t win in the end. One episode in and everybody in that house seems to know Kasey is in control of the game and will be dictating who’s going home and who isn’t. Not because he’s not well liked, but because Michael and Holly winning the final challenge killed Kasey and Vienna’s chances of winning.
Graham: A lot of people had forgotten about Graham since it has been three years since DeAnna’s season. He’s done well for himself, and seeing his video of all the charity work he does, you know that’s gonna help him out in the finals as well. You gotta think based off one episode that Graham and Michelle have got to be the front runners for getting more of the votes over Holly and Michael. But who knows how that finale taping is gonna go. I can’t imagine they’re gonna do the exact same thing as last season.
Ella: Well, that was the first time we’d ever heard that story about her and her sister being witnesses to her mother getting murdered by their step dad. Brutal. If she somehow made it to the finals, you could’ve just gift wrapped the 250k. What a horrible story. I don’t remember ever hearing that one during her season with Jake, so needless to say, that was quite the shocker.
Holly & Michael: I’m going to honestly do my best to talk about Holly this season in a way that doesn’t sound negatively biased. Don’t know if I’ll succeed, but I’ll try. Only reason I’m even bringing it up is because a lot of you have picked up on it knowing her and I used to be friends and have read what I’ve written recently. Lets just say Holly isn’t quite atop my Christmas card list this season if you know what I mean. However, despite whatever has gone on, that’s my personal business with her and I’m not here to trash the girl. Do I agree with things she’s said and done? Absolutely not. But that’s not for public consumption in my eyes. This is the first and last time I’ll address it this season, but I hope that answered peoples questions. Hey, the door is always open for her to repair the damage she did. I just won’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
As for her and Michael’s backstory, yes, that is the way it played out. They were engaged, were set to have a double wedding with DeAnna and Stephen, Holly got cold feet, called off the engagement, broke Michael’s heart, got back together, Michael couldn’t get past her breaking the engagement, he broke up with her, they go on the show, we see them kissing and going on dates, but now she’s head over heels for Blake and they are a couple. So who the hell knows what’s happening with all that. Makes my head spin. Trying to figure out Holly is not the easiest task in the world. I guess we just sit back and watch the next 5 episodes play out and you all can form your own opinion of her after that.
