The Bachelor 17 - Sean

The Bachelor Sean Recap & Clarifications on Tierra News

Before I get to today’s recap where I openly question Tierra’s antics in Canada (just like Sean and Chris Harrison do in their blogs today along with every other girl in the house), I do want to set the record straight on a couple of things to just show she’s not completely the devil. As for yesterday’s post regarding the ring she’s wearing on her left ring finger that she posted on Instagram, I can confirm that she’s not engaged. I have no idea where she got the ring, if the ring is even hers, or why the hell she’s taking pictures of herself with a ring on and posting them publicly for everyone to see, but it’s not because she’s engaged. Just looks like she is someone that is running with her “villain” edit and eating up all the attention the show is giving her. She obviously wants attention drawn to herself, because why else would you post vague photos of a big, fat rock on your left ring finger if you weren’t engaged?

Also, after Monday’s night’s episode, a few of you questioned the story she told Sean about her ex-boyfriend who died because, well, by everything she’s done this season, she hasn’t earned anyone’s respect to take her at her word for anything. Hell, even I questioned it. However, I can confirm that story is legit and it’s actually my mistake for not remembering it. I said in Tuesday’s column I didn’t know if she was telling the truth or not, when in reality, I was told about that ex-boyfriend and even referenced it in a post on Oct. 25th. But since it was three months ago, when she was telling the story Monday night, I’d completely forgotten about what I was told back then. Here’s what I wrote:

“Plenty of “Bachelor”-related stuff to get to, starting with what’s happening down in St. Croix. If you missed Tuesday’s post, scroll down past this one as it’s the next post on this page and you’ll see Sean’s date with Tierra LiCausi. I’d completely forgotten to add her to the “Sean’s Girls” link, but if you need to know more about her, you can read’s profile of her, or just go to ABC’s “Bachelor” page to see her headshot and mini bio. One thing to correct in their bio is that Tierra doesn’t live in CA. Don’t know where they got that. She works and lives in Colorado and is in the real estate business. There’s a very sentimental reason as to why she named her dog Reese as well. Curious to see if it gets brought up on the show. Not my place to bring it up but it’s out there on Google if you’re interested in searching for yourself.”

You can do a Google search if you want to find out who this guy is, but her dogs name is Reese because it’s her ex-boyfriends last name. Not hard to find, but if you’re interested, you can Google keywords and it’ll come right up and you can read his story.

Interested to hear more former contestants talking about producer tactics behind-the-scenes, you can read and watch this interview that Doug Clerget did locally in Seattle that appeared yesterday.

None of this should come as a surprise to any of you if you read my column with any regularity, but sometimes I think because only I say it, you may think it comes from a biased point of view. But when you hear a contestant with first hand knowledge explain what I’ve been telling you for a while now, it adds credibility and shows you the level that the sick producers of this show stoop to just to get a reaction out of contestants. This wasn’t the first time they went to the “dead relative” card, and certainly won’t be the last.

One final note, Sean will be making a series of appearances for the Southern Women’s Show Series over the next few months. Here’s how it’s been described to me, followed by the dates and locations he’ll be in attendance:

“The Southern Women’s Show series consists of 10 annual consumer events across the eastern US that focus on fashion, food, health, home, business, travel and entertainment. It is essentially a women’s lifestyle magazine brought to life. Each show runs 3-4 days in the market over a weekend. Their target demographic are women aged 25-54 who are usually the decision makers in their home. They come to shop and sample new products and learn about new businesses. Their official automotive sponsor this season is Chevrolet and they will have The Balancing Act of Lifetime Television at each show this spring except for Richmond, VA.”

Savannah, GA, Savannah Intl. Trade & Convention Center – Friday, Feb. 15 @ 1:30
Memphis, TN, Agricenter – Friday, Mar. 10 @ 2:00
Nashville, TN, Nashville Convention Center – Friday, April 19 @ TBD
Richmond, VA, Richmond Raceway Complex – Sunday, April 21 @ TBD
Raleigh, NC, NC State Fairgrounds – Sunday, April 28 @ TBD
Novi, MI, Suburban Collection Showplace – Friday, May 3 @ TBD

Sean will do a 30-60 minute Q&A session at each show and then sign autographs and take pictures with show guests. On to last night. As always, this column will contain spoilers.

Love the recaps! BUUUUTTTT I think I deduced a little more than what is written in this blog. Catherine’s 1-on-1 date is staged. This date actually happened AFTER Sean proposed. This is the only place they could meet and have a ‘date’ without anyone else knowing…in the middle of a freakin’ blizzard in Canada. Skeptical? Just check out her left ring finger in the shot of her hugging Sean just before they board the snow bus. Reality Steve’s prediction is correct… Just sayin’ 😉

    February 6, 2013 at 11:30 AM

@sarahrichmond – I didn’t notice the ring! Does anyone have a screen shot of that?

My favorite part of the episode was when Lesley said, ‘Tierrist’. I literally LOL’ed haha.

  3. megmac22

    February 6, 2013 at 11:33 AM

I too was wondering about the rock on Catherine’s left ring finger last night when she is hugging Sean outside the bus. Very strange. I also felt just terrible for Sarah…I think the way he asked her to leave was in very poor taste. Yeah, he wasn’t feeling it and we could all tell that, but just let her go in the rose ceremony. I lose a little more respect for Sean with each show.

  4. lexie

    February 6, 2013 at 11:41 AM

I was trying to figure out where that blizzard came from. It was sunny, beautiful and green 15 minutes earlier. It wasn’t snowing on the group date, and I don’t remember it snowing when he went tree climbing with Desiree.

  5. JovisMom

    February 6, 2013 at 11:45 AM

I didn’t notice the ring on Catherine’s finger outside the snow bus… Gotta go home and look for it now.
I think what Sean did to Sarah was horrible!! I felt so bad for her (I’m not by any means a Sarah fan). It lacked class which I though Sean had some of.
Selma kissing Sean was ackward. I’m sure she feels really dumb now doing it and then not even getting a rose.
Tierra – Cray cray.. WOW! Is there anything she won’t do for attention? When I was in girl scouts we did a polar bear plunge in a lake when we went camping (it was Novermber in PA) anywho. It is VERY cold there so I couldn’t imagine doing it in the late fall in Canada. Water like that hits you like a thousands knives and even if you can swim you really are just like frozen and may start to shake…. Think of the Titanic… If I remember the movie correctly 6 people where saved from the Northern Atlantic and it took a bit for the boats to come back.
Oh well, just my thoughts. Thank God she is gone next week.

I made an account just to comment on this.

The rock was the 1st thing I noticed on Catherine’s hand in her 1-on-1. I was so confused. And now that you all mention about the snow, I am convinced it was shot AFTER the engagement but how could that be? I mean obviously they had a 1-on-1 unless they got every girl back together to shoot the date card scene. It makes entirely no sense to me but I’m convinced it was another editing issue.

@Jackie22 : that was my all time favorite part ever “Tierrist”

  7. redbedroom

    February 6, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Same here- I saw the HUGE rock on her left hand ring finger. At first I thought it was a “promise” ring or something silly, but went back. It has to be the engagement ring, right??
I was hoping RS would touch on this.

  8. azchic24

    February 6, 2013 at 12:05 PM

I saw the ring last night as well..didn’t think much of it. Now it makes total sense. It was filmed after they got engaged. No wonder it seemed so out of place and SHORT for a one-on-one date. On another note, putting Desiree in a teepee in the cold weather when producers knew about her growing up poor and living in tents during childhood..kinda evil imo.

  9. redbedroom

    February 6, 2013 at 12:09 PM

You can see the ring at 6 minutes, 30 seconds into the episode, btw

  10. jackie22

    February 6, 2013 at 12:12 PM

    @redbedroom – wish I had DVR!

  11. mandyjo79

    February 6, 2013 at 12:14 PM

Tierra was on the fence about doing the polar bear plunge. Then you see her jump up ready to go. She obviously sat there contemplating about how to get more attention and came up with the fake hypothermia route. Sean was a douche for letting Sarah go the way he did. Didn’t notice the ring but I will go back and rewatch the episode so I can see for myself. Who edits this crap?

  12. lisa315

    February 6, 2013 at 12:15 PM

I tried getting a screen shot of it but it was too blurry when I paused the TV.

I’m sure ABC has it online. Check it out there!

    Another really good recap.

I didn’t notice the ring. Wow. So, about 99% of it is contrived, phony and complete and utter bs.

  16. skylerm

    February 6, 2013 at 12:37 PM

I watched it in slow motion a couple of times, while pausing. It appeared to be a double band ring. Not so sure it was her engagement ring, but the ring doesn’t make an appearance in the 2nd part of their date. Things that make you go hmm?

I took a few screen shots of it off of hulu. It definitely looks like more of a playful ring. The band/bands are pink. (It looks like she is wearing two rings…)

  20. skylerm

    February 6, 2013 at 12:46 PM

That’s a good screen shot. I think it’s hard to tell for sure.

  21. jackie22

How can you not love a blogger who quotes Anchorman?

  23. mauichick

    February 6, 2013 at 1:05 PM

I saw the ring too…I only noticed it once, I think it was when they hugged, did she have it on the whole time? That is the weirdest!! Could it be a fashion ring, not a diamond? If they really shot this after the proposal, that is new levels of odd!

  24. goose

    February 6, 2013 at 1:36 PM

“-So I guess this is some sort of tradition up there that happens on New Year’s Day which proves them to be even bigger freaks than I already thought they were.

Really Steve? You think we Canadians are freaks? A little uncalled for in my opinion, but moving on..

That ring on Catherine’s finger definitely looks as though it’s two rings. When was this episode supposedly filmed?

  25. camodaisy

    February 6, 2013 at 1:37 PM

    Screen shot of the ring

  26. camodaisy

    February 6, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Didn’t realize there was another one!

  27. rollingeyes

    February 6, 2013 at 1:39 PM

Doesn’t look like the typical Neal Lane engagement ring….I think it is just one of her own rings. My boyfriend wears his military ring on his left ring finger and another ring on his right ring finger, but neither of them mean anything (except to him). I wear a ring he gave me on my right middle finger, just for looks. I wouldn’t read too much into Catherine’s ring. I doubt that was a re-do of the 1-on-1 date.

  28. traversingthetwincities

    February 6, 2013 at 1:43 PM

lessonlearned is correct. Meredith finished in 4th place.

  29. jen224

Here’s another screen shot of the ring

  30. macncheese

    February 6, 2013 at 2:05 PM

That date could’ve been staged. The bus wasn’t even the same in all the shots. When it first pulls up it says “Brewster” on the side and then when Sean opens the doors for her it is gone. On another shot the name is on the bus again and then magically gone. The producers really must think the viewers are stupid.

Did Steve admit he reads the comments when he referenced people’s responses to Lindsay?

Speaking of Lindsay, is this a guy thing liking her? Because she comes off as a complete airhead! Considering that women are more the demographic for this show, how exactly is she a shoo in for the next Bachelorette? I actually am mildly annoyed with Steve on his taste, ha. From Emily to Lindsay for his favs on this show? Makes no sense. Emily O. seemed smart; this girl is a ditz. I’d like to like her since she makes it so far but no can do! I still think Des is great, though. I also like Sarah. Heck, I’d even be more pleased with AshLee as Bachelorette than Lindsay. It’s been hard to warm up to AshLee but I think this episode showed her in the best light so far.

  32. bigfatwoman

    February 6, 2013 at 2:25 PM

I don’t believe they’d have that ring on her if it was the engagement ring. This is a case of “I see dead people” — reading too much into it.

I don’t get the attraction or appeal of Lindsey as Bachelorette. I can’t imagine a bunch of guys vying for her. Ashley Hebert was much cuter and had a really bubbly personality. That whole kiss me don’t kiss me thing last night made me feel like I was watching a junior high couple. I’m all for sweet and playful and that was neither.

I love his choice of Catherine. All the other girls seem like they are taking this way too seriously and she just seems to be more grounded and real.

Selma’s first kiss is with those sticky lipstick lips? Yuck.

  33. jillbeau

    February 6, 2013 at 3:10 PM

So remember back during Ashley’s season when Ryan used to study questions and topics of conversation to discuss during their one-on-one time? Something tells me that Ashlee does this too. A few weeks ago, she did that thing where they would kiss every time Sean answered a question correctly. This week, she did the strange blindfold thing. I’m sure she puts a lot of thought and effort in to it, but it just is way too forced for me. She can’t just relax and enjoy their time together. She does seem like a really nice person, but I can see why Sean does not take her to the final.

I’m agreeing with other posters about Lindsay. I’m really trying to like her and envision her as the next Bachelorette, but I’m just not getting it yet. Which is strange, because back when ABC first released the girls’ photos, I immediately thought that Lindsay would go far. And while that does happen, I don’t love the personality that they’ve shown so far. I think that Des would be a much better Bachelorette.

  34. myjewel

    February 6, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Wow! When I read some comments here, you guys probably right about what you’ve noticed on Catherine’s ring. But then I checked the weather in Alberta assuming they filmed it on October. and besides it doesn’t make sense to reshoot a scene which they already have for their 1 on 1 date and spend more.I was thinking it filmed during the snow storm. Remember,RS mentioned hometown date with Catherine was on October 29?

  35. karynr

    February 6, 2013 at 3:44 PM

I think both Lindsey and Des are adorable, but Des is definitely more mature. Lindsey is so young in so many ways. I think Des would be much better to watch as The Bachelorette. She doesn’t giggle!

  36. myjewel

    February 6, 2013 at 3:46 PM

I mean spend more money 🙂

  37. elizabeth82

    February 6, 2013 at 3:49 PM

Exactly . . . Lindsay is pretty and bubbly but it doesn’t go beyond that. I wish it did!

  38. iheartvino

    February 6, 2013 at 4:07 PM

I’m not super impressed with Lindsay at this point either. But if she ends up being the Bachelorette, I’m sure it will still be entertaining, as we all know by now that it’s not about who they cast as the lead- the contestants are usually the ones who make or break the season. I don’t know when her birthday is but 24 does seem a bit young to me to be the Bachelorette.

Loved seeing Sean and Catherine interact on their date and wish they would have shown more. The scene with them in the episode before, with her sitting on his lap, showed me that they have definitely had a lot more interaction and conversation than those annoying producers have allowed us to see. They already looked so natural and comfortable to me.

  39. peepsforpeace

    February 6, 2013 at 4:13 PM

Ok Steve, I’ve got a bit of a beef with some of the stuff you’ve been saying about Selma. I am really familiar with the Iraqi culture and I also feel like you are calling out Selma for being fake because you yourself, have bought into what the Bachelor is about. So here goes:
    1) First, there is a difference between religion and culture. Yes, Selma is not very religious, is not a practicing Muslim, so you think that her not kissing a guy was BS. But the fact is, even in the Christian Arab community, kissing a guy on national television for either a woman OR a man would be embarrassing. Arab cultures are more community-oriented and what one person does reflects on the larger community as a whole. You point out the topless video she did, but we don’t know the backstory behind that. My guess is that the video was not supposed to be released, so we really can’t authoritatively speak on that. But the fact is, religion is different from culture, and culture is complex. End of story.

    2) I take MAJOR issues with you going on and on about how Selma dresses sexy and thus she was a ‘cock tease’ for not putting out with Sean. Wow Steve, so if a woman dresses sexy, she has to put out? That’s how rape culture is perpetuated, FYI. And again, for Americanized Arabs dressing sexy isn’t as big deal as running around sleeping with tons of people. Again, culture is complex.

    3) What’s hilarious to me is that this blog is all about calling out the BS of the Bachelor, and yet you missed a major point here-no one FORCES you to kiss or have sex with a guy!!! You know very well that none of these ‘engagements’ end up in marriages, so does it really make a difference whether Selma kisses Sean before she gets ‘engaged’ to him? I think she just didn’t want to come off as skanky on television. The fact is, YOU of all people should love Selma cause
    a) She was probably the only woman in Bachelor history to not sob after she was kicked off
    b) She didn’t jump in freezing water for some dude who’s not worth it
    c) She didn’t tell the guy she was in love with him or suck face with him just to stay on the show.
In other words…she wasn’t DESPERATE. She was clearly on the show to play the game, to have a fun experience, to go on the cruises, etc. She didn’t take the show too seriously or fake her commitment to this dude she didn’t know.
You should be all about Selma, for real.

  40. skylerm

    February 6, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Lindsay has an odd voice. She’s cute and sweet, but her voice drives me nuts. I don’t think she could carry the show as a lead. Desiree could carry the show. She is fun, mature, classy and educated. She would make a great and outgoing lead. Not saying that Lindsay isn’t outgoing, she seems like she is. But I think Des would be far more interesting.

  41. bunbun

    February 6, 2013 at 4:35 PM

skylerm her voice bugs me too. Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I mentioned that to my daughter last night about her voice.

  42. iheartvino

    February 6, 2013 at 4:57 PM

I forgot to mention that in my other comment, about Lindsay’s voice. It bugs me too and she kind of sounds like a little kid when she talks. I do think she’s very pretty though. I like Desiree more now than I did after the first few episodes. I wasn’t really seeing the Katie Holmes resemblance, but after seeing her the other night with her bangs out of her face I can definitely see it now.

  43. stroal

    February 6, 2013 at 5:20 PM

While we’re talking about rings, I’m pretty sure there was one on Lesley’s left hand ring finger during one of her 1-on-1’s with Sean (can’t remember if it was during the group date party or the cocktail party… I think the group date one). Anyone else see that?

  44. ashleigh11

    February 6, 2013 at 6:01 PM

    A few thoughts:

    – I agree with Steve that humiliating Sarah in front of everyone was completely uncalled for. I never understand why people do this “I respect you too much to make you wait for a rose ceremony”. Why not let them enjoy another day or two at the resort and go out with dignity instead of being singled out so unexpectedly. I can understand it if someone has kids at home and every single day being away from their ‘real lives’ matters, but give the girl a break and let her enjoy the trip! This was the worst example of it of all the seasons – doing it on a group date in front of everyone. Tactless and cruel.

    – Why are all the girls wearing 10lb earrings? Did these come in a gift bag for everyone? Are they being sponsored by a jeweller that specializes in S&M for the earlobes?

    – I can *barely* watch this season because Sean is beyond boring. The ken-doll smile and robotic monologes and conversations are mind-numbing. I thought Ben was bland but this guy wins the ‘blank-person’ race. I find myself web-surfing during one-on-ones and only paying attention during group date antics and the firestorm cocktail parties to watch Tierra flexing her Eyebrows of War and stirring up trouble.

    – It’s extremely clear to me that Tierra is auditioning for a spot on Bachelor Pad. Sean is just collateral damage along the way.

    – As others have said – Lindsay doesn’t seem a right fit for the Bachelorette. None of the girls do.

    – The extreme lack of focus on Catherine will probably make the finale very ‘meh’. I think it’s a bad move to give her such little screen time. We don’t have any incentive to care about her or her relationship with Sean. I couldn’t care less if they break up as a couple. I can barely imagine them as a couple as it is.

  45. Athena

    February 6, 2013 at 6:16 PM

@peepsforpeace – great post – Thank you. You’re right about the complexities of a person’s culture, and I agree that Selma stood out as a strong woman who kept her personal boundaries intact while not being aloof and unapproachable with Sean. His kisses with most of the girls are beyond tame anyhow, so who cares whether they ended up making out or not? The whole explicit swimsuit shoot she did previously is kindof weird, and I can see why Steve thinks this makes her look like a hypocrite, but I think you’re right about us not knowing all the backstory. Plus, these are young women, and just like all of us, they have/are going through various maturational changes. Who knows where she was at when she filmed that compared to now.

  46. Amy

    February 6, 2013 at 6:59 PM

I’m not sure if anyone mentioned this above as I didn’t read all of the comments. I’m from the Toronto area in Canada and the polar bear plunges here are done for charities and have been a long standing tradition. Being the lazy fart I am, I’d rather jump in the freezing water for 10 seconds than run a 10 km marathon. Either way, if it’s for a good cause, then to each his/her own. 🙂

  47. momma3j

    February 6, 2013 at 7:55 PM

I noticed the ring on Catherine’s left hand too. I thought it was “weird” and it did occur to me it could be her engagement ring, but not that the date was possibly filmed after the fact. Very interesting. I also noticed the one Lesley was wearing on her left hand during one of the parties, as another reader pointed out.

Selma…ugh! She may be pretty, but I am so glad her high maintenance-self is gone. I do give her big props for refusing to do the polar bear plunge though. There is no way in heck I would have done it either…not for a man, for money, nothing. I don’t need that kind of “once in a lifetime” experience. Also, the too little too late kiss reminded me of Doug’s embarrassing attempt with Emily. It will be interesting to see if she makes an appearance on Bachelor Pad this year. Rebel much?

I agree with everyone who said what Sean did to Sarah was really sh*tty. It was uncalled for and unnecessary. If anything, he should have let Selma go early instead of Sarah. Selma was the one who “wasn’t willing to compromise”. Sarah definitely should have been allowed to stay through the rose ceremony.

It’s funny someone brought up Bachelor Pad and if Tierra is basically getting ready to be cast for it. I was wondering the same thing. I know she would totally fit in, but I sure hope they don’t include her. I can barely stand knowing I have to see her another week on The Bachelor.

As for the next Bachelorette, I would be okay with Lindsay, Desiree, or Lesley. However, I think the two L’s might be better suited for Bachelor Pad and D for the lead on Bachelorette. (especially since Lindsay announced on national TV she sleeps nude. I’m sure the guys on BP will be ready and more than willing to be her roommate when the time comes, pun intended).

“So I guess this is some sort of tradition up there that happens on New Year’s Day which proves them to be even bigger freaks than I already thought they were. You are supposed to submerge your whole body underwater and jump right in.”

Wait, is Steve saying he has never heard of the Polar Bear Plunge? An event that thousands of people do every year during the winter months. Its not just some sort of tradition up there, they do this all over the world.

A few things… As a Canadian I was fortunate enough to live in Banff for years and know the area quite well traveling to ake Louise to hike frequently. So when Sean and Catherine went to the ice field, it isnt near the hotel. It is a minimum 45 minute drive away. And you gain major elevation. It is completely feasible that a blizzard was happening where they were as opposed to the other ladies back at the hotel at least an hour drive away if you assume they drove up into the glacier for a while. I really like Lesley, too bad she won’t be the next bachelorette. She cracks me up.

  50. irena

    February 7, 2013 at 2:07 AM

Steve is so wrong. Neither Desiree or Lindsay will be a good lead for bachelorette. Because..they are not pretty enough. You forgot the disaster of Ashley Hebert as bacherorette when guys were walking out on her bcse they were not attracted to her? How different was Emily as bachelorette…because she is pretty. Bottomline, the show at the moment doesn’t have anyone who is pretty enough to be the next lead. AshLee is beautiful but she is too serious, fragile and too traumatized to be a solid lead. The show doesn’t have anyone. It will be again low ratings and a disaster like it was with Ashley who basically had only two guys attracted to her. It was embarassing to watch.
