Yes, this was a real email I received…
Hey steve i like reading ur spoilers. i kinda take it seriously and stress out when the wrong peopke are still in on the bachelor. like tierra. with vianna and courtney every week was frustrating for me. if the leads are there to find love cant the producera tesl them who to stay away from. i think its stupid to keep them. i kbow the show wants to reveal drana bur give the leqd a break. i think the will be longer lasting relaionships if producers help kill the pests. lolz anyways i saw on the monday episode tierra writing a letter or something at the table before leaving to find sean. could that have been the letter sean gets thatwe see in the previews.
Comment: I realy dnt no wot 2 saye too ths. Spel chk?
Just read an interesting Reader Email I wanted to ask about. You said the dates are chosen in advance of knowing who is getting a rose and who isn’t. Do you mean Sean tells the producers “I know I’m not giving Leslie a rose no matter what happens on the date” so they plan the date and have the van waiting, etc.? What if he said he was definitely giving someone a rose on the date and then during said date the girl totally throws him by acting like a total nut job and he wants out? Is he then compelled to give it to her because he said he would to the producers?
Thanks in advance for any clarification you have time to give on this. I didn’t know this was how it worked and it surprised me!
Comment: People are put on certain dates knowing what’s gonna happen in advance. I guess it’s possible that someone was put on a date with every intention of getting a rose, but then turned off the lead during the date and they changed their mind, but I wouldn’t know for sure. And vice versa. I think Ashley was set to send Ames home on his 1-on-1, but I remember reading her say that he totally surprised her. So maybe he was set to leave, but impressed her.
I’m just wondering if there are any good or genuine people who are cast on this show, at least from your perspective. I wasn’t an avid viewer of the show, but the year after undergrad and before grad school, I was living at home and my mother convinced me to watch Ali’s season. Somehow (I don’t know if ABC was feeding me subliminal messaging) I was hooked and I found myself rooting for her to find “love.” Now, having my eyes opened from your column and those infamous gossip mags, it seems that not one of these men or women have an ounce of decency in their fame-seeking souls. I guess I’m at fault here because I expect more from people, especially those who are trying to build a “relationship” with someone. Silly me.
On a side note, I do love your wit and your way with words. I will continue to read about these train wrecks of contestants until the show is off the air
Comment: I wouldn’t say none have an ounce of decency. That’s a little harsh and untrue. But many are completely changed once they go on the show because they come off it having that little taste of the limelight, and suddenly they think they are waaaaaaay more important than they are. That’s happened to a lot of them. A LOT.
Last week when Sean sent Leslie home he reasoned that “the romance just wasn’t there.” What a great dumping line. I wish I had that one in my arsenal in my single days. Much more tactful than “you’re not hot enough” or “your parents scare the crap out of me.” We also hear “I have a stronger connection with the other girls.” Another brilliant ones. When a guy has to basically dump 24 women over the course of the season, I suppose he gets some help from producers as to what to say?
Comment: Or just uses stuff he’s heard from past seasons. There’s a lot of dumping lines you can use on this show, but they all center around one thing: I’d rather marry someone else than you. Sorry.
Just reading your reader e-mails and I have noticed the last couple of weeks people have been asking a lot about the gift bags that the girls get upon arrival. I’m not sure if you saw this on Possessionista but it says what were in this season’s goodie bags and where to get some of the stuff.
Comment: There ya go. Definitely not my area of expertise, so if that’s what some of the items in the bag were, then I guess that’s what they were. She’d know better than me.
Hey Reality Steve,
1. I was a little confused why Tierra pulled Robyn AND Jackie aside last week to chat about their drama. We’ve seen nothing happen between Tierra and Jackie. I noticed those two have a 2-on-1 date next week. Do you think the producers told Tierra that Jackie was talking crap about her and to pull her aside to make the upcoming 2-on-1 date more dramatic?
2. When the girls don’t get a rose, they show them walk away from the house like they are walking away forever. Do they come back and get their stuff after the cocktail party filming is over, or is their stuff already packed in a car and they really leave immediately after the rose ceremony?
LOVE this blog. Yours is the only blog I read religiously. Keep up the good work.
Btw, I have a friend who doesn’t have a left hand because she has an arm like Sarah’s, and she wears her wedding ring on her right ring finger.
Comment: 1) Who knows at this point? I think it just had more to do with Jackie was getting sent home, and they just decided it’d be during the 2-on-1.
2) I think it’s like “Survivor” where every girl packs before every rose ceremony in case you get sent home, and if you do, they bring it out to you.
It seems that you dislike Melissa Rycroft. Was she more responsible for the onscreen break-up than it seemed? I certainly can see that she is a person that likes attention, but I can’t see you disliking her just for that. You don’t seem to dislike Jason, and to me his agreeing to humiliate her (or any woman) on screen certainly didn’t show much character. Did Melissa say something negative about you in her book? I have read some of her blogs and never seen anything bad said about you. I did hear that she and Tye had broken up before the filming of The Bachelor. Was there more to that story?
Comment: Jason and Melissa were already broken up before that on screen breakup happened. Both of them admitted it after the fact. They were basically told to essentially re-enact their breakup. Melissa was in the dark about Molly, and that’s why she was pissed. Or so she claims. She had reasons to suspect it was her, but according to her, up until that day Jason assured her it wasn’t.
I haven’t read Melissa’s book nor do I plan to. I don’t care if she likes me or not. I’m just not a fan of hers.
She and Tye dated on and off for a couple years before that show, but once she came back from it, I guess he/she realized they were meant to be together so they got back together again and got married.
I’ve written before, but reading all of today’s emails made want to write yet again. As I read through, page after page, I decided to jump to the end and read your favorite email ever. I can understand why it is your favorite. You know, sometimes I read your column, and I think, “WOW, that guy is so crass!” But then, I will laugh out loud at other stuff you write. As a woman, I read the column and think of how chauvinistic you sound at times, but then again, it is hilarious. That is one of the great things about your column, you appeal to a variety of readers. You are humorous, honest, opinionated, and you don’t ever apologize for those opinions. I can totally see how in the midst of difficulty, you provide some levity to a person’s day. It’s a very nice reward to have someone say that about your column. Words are powerful, and yours obviously provoke conversations and laughter.
Comment: I’ve never hid who I am and what my personality is. The column is not for everyone. But I’m certainly no phony. I’ve always been very sarcastic, very blunt, and if I offend, then don’t read. Can’t stand phony people and that’s what I try to stay away from in my column. Is some of what I say exaggerated a bit and done tongue-in-cheek? Of course. I’m here to entertain and make people laugh. That’s all I care about. People who dissect every word I say and take me so literally just don’t get it.
Hi! A few questions for you:
1. The girls obviously have to pack many suitcases, and you have
addressed that before. Does ABC pay for everyone’s 5 suitcases to get
to LA, even if they might get eliminated the first night? Or do they
have contestants pack extra boxes or suitcases that get shipped only
if the make it farther into the game?
2. Is there places for them to do laundry or is their laundry done for them?
3. What percentage of contestants to you think regret going on the
show after it is done? Obviously, while they are watching the
episodes that make them look like fools, they completely regret it.
However, after that has all died down and they start hooking up with
other contestants, do they become “proud” to be part of “the family”?
Comment: 1) Yep. They’re only allowed to bring 2 suitcases when they leave for filming, but are given more once they arrive since they get more stuff.
2) Crew handles laundry I believe. Or maybe they do it themselves. Not sure. Are people really concerned about who has their laundry done?
3) I think very few regret it because of the perks it brings to their social/dating life.
I have been following your site pretty regularly since Jason’s season, and am yet another one of those people that wouldn’t follow this ridiculous show if not for your spoilers/blog.
After seeing the Reader Email about Lindsay v. Emily O, I have a question that I hope you will answer to satisfy the random, ridiculous curiosity of a dedicated reader…
Have you ever made it to first base with a girl from this franchise? (No names – just Y/N) I actually googled “first base” to make sure it still means what it did when I first heard of the baseball metaphors for sex. I didn’t want to be too personal. Ha.
Keep up the good work!
Comment: No. Never tried either.
Hi Steve, Love your columns….sometimes, it takes me over an hour to read because I have to minimize my screen every time my boss leaves his office,
but I don’t mind because I’m always entertained. However my boss probably wonders why I do not type anything for a full hour =)
A few questions for you….
1. What was your favorite location where The Bachelor / Bachelorette was filmed?
2. Do you have a favorite episode of the Bachelor or Bachelorette?
Comment: 1) Where did Ali go for the ending of her show? Tahiti? Fiji? Can’t remember. I liked that place.
2) There were a lot of memorable ones, but when I was pulling video clips from Kacie in Park City last season to prove her ITM used this season was from that episode, I ended up rewatching the episode from the rose ceremony cocktail party on. That was some gooooood sh**. I forgot how nasty it got between Courtney and Emily O’Brien. That was very entertaining TV. I’m sure there are others that stand out, but since that is most fresh in my mind, I’ll go with that.
Hi there, I just want to say I enjoy reading The Bachelor & The Bachelorette spoilers :).
Do you have any deleted videos of Catherine on Sean’s seasons? I agree that there is not much airplay and wondering if you have anything exciting to watch that kind of indicates that he really likes her.
Comment: Do I have any? Like, my own personal stash? Yeah, sure. Let me just whip those out for you.
Or are you talking if ABC has released any? I don’t think they have as far as I’ve seen, but sometimes I forget to check.
Yo what’s up Steve!
I noticed this season that there are lot more “injuries” that require medical attention compared to the other seasons I’ve seen (Tierra gets two injuries in one season!). Usually there’s one at most. Any thoughts on that? Is ABC being careless so there’s more room for promos to boost ratings?
Comment: Well, considering two of the injuries belonged to Tierra and it she seemed to recover rather quickly from both, I guess we can question whether EMT’s should’ve even been brought in in the first place.
Love your site! I was wondering at what point does the Bachelor have to tell them who his final 4 are for the Hometowns? How much notice does the contestant’s family get to prep for this visit?
Comment: During the episode before. Producers start calling family members in the city before to let them know they might be coming for a hometown date and if they have any suggestions for what to do, along with taking suggestions from the contestants since they know their hometown better than the producers do.
