Back for another round of this silliness. Twenty-seventh season of this show. How is that even possible? I don’t know, and I don’t care. Just keep making this show, and I’ll keep spoiling it. A LOT to get to before we jump into today’s recap. Some of you haven’t been back to this site since Sean’s season ended, so I say welcome back. If you’re looking for the spoilers, you can either click here, scroll down to the next post, or use the navigation bar at the top, “Spoilers,” then “Bachelorette,” then “Bachelorette Desiree Spoilers.” Pretty much all of your spoilers are there, and I will update a couple from what dates happened in Madeira (Brooks and Michael definitely had 1-on-1’s). However, just know that these recaps, and all future columns will contain spoilers. Today’s column will reference plenty of things previously mentioned in spoilers, so if you haven’t read or don’t want to know, well, you’ve been warned.
I’m heading out of town tomorrow to CA for the weekend since my birthday is Friday. There’s a good chance Friday will be spent watching Nicholas’ championship t-ball game and/or taking the kids to the roller skating rink. Fun times. So tomorrow I will have your “Reader Emails,” and “Dr. Reality Steve” column up, then it will go back to Thursday’s for the rest of the season. Any questions, comments, observations, critiques, send them my way and I’m sure you can still get in tomorrow’s column. Not too heavy on emails right now.
A few videos for those that may have missed me tweet them out. First, if “Burning Love” didn’t tickle your fancy (which would be impossible if you follow the “Bachelor” at all), then definitely the “Baby Bachelor” will from Jimmy Kimmel’s show. You know what’s amazing about this? It’s a genius idea obviously, but the first time I saw it, I was actually shocked that no one had thought of this earlier. I mean, the “Bachelor” is in their 26th season and 10th year now. Pretty crazy to think that no one thought to do a parody like the “Baby Bachelor” before Kimmel started this two weeks ago. Whatever the case, it’s hilarious. Here are the first two episodes in case you missed them.
Also, this past Friday I joined “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” here in Dallas to discuss the upcoming season of the “Bachelorette,” and actually, you can view this whole video without any spoilers being given out. Always a good time hanging with them, and I’m sure we’ll do an update again either mid-season or right around finale time.
Sunday I tweeted out that one of Desiree’s guys had already been a “winner” on a previous reality dating show. I use the term “winner” very loosely since it was a show I’d never heard of until this past weekend, and it’s not like he won anything major. The girl just picked him out of three guys at the end, but then apparently they never saw each other after that. The show was called Holidate and it aired on the SoapNet channel back in 2009. Not a clue this was even a show until now. The object is, these women can’t find a dude in the towns they live in, so they’re set up with 3 guys who live in a different state and go out with each of them. In Michael’s episode, he was living in NY at the time, and a woman from San Francisco comes to NY to date 3 guys, while a woman from NY goes to SF to date three guys from there. Gee, talk about doomed from the start. Anyway, here’s Michael’s episode. He’s the third guy she goes out with and doesn’t appear until around the 25:00 minute mark if you want to skip ahead. And no, I don’t have the faintest idea why his left eyebrow seems to be missing:
And if you missed this, last week the rap video from next week’s group date with Soulja Boy somehow leaked online.
Now when I first saw this, I’ll admit, it was the worst thing I’d ever seen in my life. I even tweeted as much. However, it took me watching it a couple times to realize, the video wasn’t made to show off anyone’s rapping or acting skills, which is what I originally thought. I thought they just made a rap video cuz, well, they ran out of group date ideas. But the song “Right Reasons” was basically a dig at all former contestants on the “Bachelorette” who had some sort of scandal. Ben plays Wes with his guitar (even though Wes doesn’t wear cowboy hats), James plays Rego the wrestler, Michael makes fun of Jason Mesnick, and then you see Zak dressed as the Weatherman, one of the guys is dressed as Kasey when he got eliminated on a glacier in Iceland, one of the guys has a skateboard in his hand to mock Jef, and they even have a guy in an armor suit making fun of Diogo. Then I realized, this is honestly the first time I can ever remember this show publicly making fun of themselves, which is a good thing. The reason I have so much disdain for this show is that exact fact – they always take themselves too seriously, they think their audience believes this garbage, and that they’re some sort of matchmaking geniuses whose show is about love, when that’s about the last thing it’s about. Please. This show is a pure train wreck and if you’re not watching to make fun of it, then you are living in fantasy land. So props to them for making this rather funny video mocking themselves. But one question: Ummmm, is Soulja Boy strapped for money right now or something? How they got that guy to agree to this is beyond me.
