The “Bachelorette” Andi Recap Including What Happens with Eric’s Exit Tonight

June 2nd, 2014 | 26 Comments | Posted in The Bachelorette 10 - Andi

This Sunday night show really screwed with my schedule. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to this show (and a lot of other things for that matter). So not only throwing a show on a night that wasn’t a Monday, but the couple that with the fact I was still in CA last night and had to watch the show 3 hrs behind everybody was annoying. Hence the reason there was no live tweeting. Not only that, it ends at 10pm Pacific time, my body is still feeling two hours ahead, and I was dead tired trying to write this column after the show last night (plus, the year older I got over the weekend might’ve had something to do with it). All in all, it’s just screwing up my mojo. So I started writing a little bit after the show, woke up early this morning to finish it up, took Olivia and Nicholas to school, came back and wrote a little more, then am heading to the airport for a noon flight. I land at 5:00 CST, so I should get back to my house right before it starts airing tonight so I can live tweet, but man ABC, quit putting shows on Sunday night. And yes, I will have some whine with that cheese.

Speaking of Nicholas, apologizes for all those that tuned in to Thursday night’s show for the last 15 minutes only to see him chomping away on his gum. He doesn’t always chew like that but because he knew people were watching him and he loves being a ham, that’s how he acted. Oh well. I’m in CA again for 4th of July weekend and I get in on Thursday, so good chance you’ll see them again on Thursday night the 3rd. I will make sure he has no gum anywhere near him. I watched those last 15 minutes back and it even started bothering me, so I can imagine how it was to viewers. My apologies.

Some “Bachelor in Paradise” news. I kinda touched on this in Thursday’s live video chat, but there are way more than 20 names that I’m hearing are doing it. And a lot of names I’m hearing are people that are basically just showing up for one or two episodes. I wish I could tell you what that means, but I can’t since nobody knows what the hell this show is gonna be about. So maybe if you start following some of these people on Twitter that I released to be on the show, even if they have some tweets during filming doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t on the show. They maybe just haven’t arrived yet. I know Jason and Molly are making an appearance because they said as much on their podcast, but they don’t even know when they’re heading down there or what they’re doing. I still don’t understand why they would go with this concept about trying to form more couples from this franchise. The names of these people on the show, a lot of them have already met outside the show, and any hookups or “relationships” would basically just be a showmance. I can’t imagine any of them are really taking this seriously. Well, except maybe AshLee Frazier. She would probably pay THEM to be on it to date someone from this franchise. Bat. Sh**. Crazy. Ask anyone.

Had a brain fart on the group date spoiler tonight that a couple readers emailed and tweeted me about. In the 11 guys on the basketball date, I had Nick’s name twice and Josh’s wasn’t. Obviously if the other Nick was gone in episode 2, he couldn’t possibly be on the group date. My cutting and pasting went awry for this one. I apologize. That’s been changed, since the other Nick is gone and Josh is still there, so both Josh and Nick are on tonight’s basketball date. Which ironically enough is the only group date the two of them are on all season together. This has been updated in the episode-by-episode spoilers.

The ratings are in from last night, and safe to say ABC will probably never be running any new episodes on a Sunday night ever again. DI-SAS-TER. A 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.9 million viewers? Ouch. Frankly, that’s horrible for this show. They’ll improve tonight because it’s back in its regular time slot and not on a holiday, but that’s a terrible number. Last week I said I expect it to consistently be in the 6 million viewers a week stage for the rest of the season. I take that back now. Probably looking at 5 to 5 ½ million a week, with the ending of the season hitting the 6′s and the finale reaching 7-8 million.

  1. I’m actually happy to finally know the reason why Eric left, as it was not nearly as bad as I was thinking. Yes, you can tell Andi is extremely upset by what he says however you have to respect the fact that he was honest with her about what he was feeling. It was kind of clear that Andi wasn’t as interested in him as she was with some of the other guys and he obviously realized that.

I really like Andi as The Bachelorette however comparing how she is this season to last season, it’s literally like two different people.

Eric seemed like the most genuine guy in the house and I’d be surprised if this truly changes anyone’s opinion of him. I was in the audience for the Magic Mike group date and it was so interesting to see that really only Josh and Marcus paid attention solely to Andi. The other guys were more interested in getting to know all of us in the audience then Andi(obviously that wasn’t shown). I’m sure Eric was not the only one who felt that way, but probably the only one who valued being honest and risking getting sent home, then staying quiet on hopes of more screen time.

  2. Everybody on that show is acting in some capacity, from Chris Harrison to the producers to the guests, the lead and the daters. Everybody. Everbody says things they probably don’t 100% believe and/or feel. I simply do not believe that Eric was 100% honest 100% of his time on the show.
Getting all bunchy & self-righteous on a competitive reality TV show is just juvenile to me. That includes all of the guys calling out Andrew instead of taking the info to a producer.
Eric’s outrage may be more sour grapes than non-judgemental honesty, but he may be totally justified in what he says. He may come off as perfectly reasonable and logical, or disgruntled and jealous. We’ll find out tonight.

  3. Trying to be as respectful as I can to the deceased, Eric, may he rest in peace. That being said, so far, what I’ve seen of him on the show, he seems to have a big ego and wants to conquer everything he does. Hence all the death defying stuff he did all the time, some of it is mind blowing, to risk your life for what, an adrenaline rush/thrill? Andi didn’t even kiss him on that one date they had; but he questions her about finding love, and is ticked because he “didn’t get a special hello from her” when she saw him. Obviously, she didn’t find love with him, that is her right at the lead. I don’t think Eric could never handle not being #1 in anything he did, including the show. Also, he didn’t go on it for love, so to call Andi out is almost funny, he went to promote his around the world odyssey.

Yes, sorry he died, but he died doing the dangerous stuff that made him who he was. Again, it’s very sad that he passed away. But for folks, including RS, to put him on some type of pedestal, only because he died is not right either. Even with all his worldly accomplishments, at the end of the day, Eric was a guy looking for adventure and fun 24/7. No way he was going to get married at this point in his life. That all gets muddled and not mentioned because his horrible death.

  4. Hmmmm…..interesting development with Eric. He has come across as really likable and dynamic, but without him here to tell his side of the story, we’ll never know his reasons.

I really like Andi, but I have to say I am still baffled by her choice in Josh. I think he seems smarmy. Give me a JJ or Nick any day of the week. They are way less smooth and seem way more genuine.

By the way, when I see Marcus, all I think is porn star. He definitely has the look.

  5. The vibe that Eric had is more ‘real’ than many of the others, and since we weren’t there, it’s impossible to really take stock of the way Andi behaved – maybe he just realized she wasn’t ‘that’ interested in him based on the stand-offish way she was after the date and he realized he didn’t want to play the game or waste more time there. Maybe she put out a vibe that turned him off and something happened that pushed it over the edge for him. It’s ok for Andi to call out Juan Pablo for the same reasons, but not for Eric to do the same? Fair is fair, in my opinion. People shouldn’t be judged for expressing honest opinions – whether it’s the lead or the ‘contestants’.

  6. I think that Eric felt more for Andi than she did for him. It was way too soon for her to “decide”. When he spoke to her “last night” about thanking her, I believe he was fishing for approval or confirmation that what he felt for her was returned. When he did not get what he was seeking, his wheels began turning and he became frustrated with the process. Had he stuck it out and was able to handle the journey, he may have had a shot at her heart and may even have been alive today. This “journey” is not for everyone. It is hard to find love and even harder to find it when you are competing with a boat load of competitive men vying for the affections of one woman. He called her out because he himself could not handle it. In the end, I am so sad that his story ended in the loss of his life too young. I surely would have preferred hearing down the road that he had found the love of his life. He said that was his ultimate goal, and I believe he was honest about that. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. I believe he was a genuine and sensitive soul who sought out thrills to compensate for a lack of connection. Had he found that connection, I believe his soul would have been content. He said it himself, that his list was growing short and he was ready. RIP, Eric.

  7. Wow, Michelle, thanks. Even his sister, who loved him dearly, knew the day would come when she’d get the call he died. He was such a risk taker and daredevil. And sometimes the price for that is serious injury or death, it’s very sad.

We must remember whatever is shown tonight, whether it puts Andi or Eric in a bad light, this was done when no one had any idea he would meet such an untimely death when he returned home.

For me, I’m going to view and judge, as if Eric had not died, that’s only fair to Andi, and whatever she does tonight. It will be so wrong if people bash her, ONLY because Eric died after he left the show. She had nothing to do with that.

  8. Honestly I think the reason Eric called her out was prob cuz he could feel she wasn’t as into him anymore. This isn’t Andi’s fault…she just wasn’t feeling the connection with Eric. I think that made him accuse her of acting like she liked him earlier, etc…like he prob felt she led him on….or if not exactly that then he’s bothered somehow by her not being as into him anymore and this is the way he rationalizes it. Why else would he accuse her of acting? I think if Andi was really into Eric and showed it, he wouldn’t have had this argument with her.

  9. That Eric tribute was nothing but a gratuitous Andi pr move. I wonder if they invited any family members or friends to honor him? Where were the photos? All we got was Andi dancing around the fact that she was snubbing him because she was smitten with Josh.

    Epic fail.

  10. I think it was an appropriate ending.

It’s not an Eric Hill tribute show, it’s the Bachelorette. Eric was a small part of it and they paid their tribute to him twice. I’m sure all of his family & friends have done many tributes, memorials and other things to mark his life and death. Time to move on.

I also thought he realized she wasn’t that into him, so he cut his losses, tried to make it her fault for “acting” and decided to force the issue.

Not a bad guy, just a bad contestant. He wasn’t number 1 on Andi’s Hit Parade, so he moved on. He wasn’t the first, and he won’t be the last on this franchise.

  11. Bottom line, if Eric hadn’t died (doing what he loved), Andi would not be bashed like she is on social media. It’s shame, she didn’t know he would die after her left the show, no one did. There’s real time, when the show taped, and now time, after the fact that Eric died. As RS tweeted, absolutely, they have nothing to do with each other.

    RealitySteve ?@RealitySteve
Lets separate Eric and Andi’s argument from his death. One has nothing to do with the other.

  12. I definitely couldn’t fault Eric for calling out Andi. He was completely expressing his opinion. I agree with steve and what some of the previous posters have said. At the end of the day, pretty much everyone has done some kind of acting on that show. Not saying Andi was acting when she was with Eric because I wasn’t there but she obviously did a 180 on him otherwise he wouldn’t have brought up the whole “acting” thing. At the end of the day, there is a show to make. Andi might not have liked what Eric said to her but it is what it is. There’s really no such thing as reality tv anymore. Mostly scripted to keep the audience watching and guessing (well not if you read steve’s blogs) but that’s just how the game goes. Btw thanks michelle00 for posting the article from today. Very touching and heartfelt. I feel for his family and they r in my prayers.

  13. Okay I just watched the episode. I think the problem was Eric and Andi didn’t really have that romantic chemistry…for some reason they were stuck in friend zone…I think Eric felt frustrated by this but really it’s no one’s fault and I think both of them were being as open as they could be. I think when eric said she was acting he didn’t realize how offended she’d be by that. I kind of feel bad for Eric but I guess he should’ve been more careful with his choice of words. I think Andi kind of overreacted (as we’ve seen her do before with Juan Pablo). I think Andi is prob already paranoid that she has to be fake with some of the guys and lead them on..I mean that’s part of the show. Anyway I think Eric should’ve realized it wasn’t about being open, it was just about lack of romantic chemistry between the two of them..and Andi should’n't have freaked out so much. It was kind of stupid way to end things between the two of them because neither one of them is a bad person.

  14. Another reminder why I don’t like this woman. She never allows anybody to question her without getting all defensive. She is used to being Daddy’s Princess. So passive aggressive. What does that say about her that the first time someone dares to point out one of her flaws she flips out and throws them out? Sure, Eric could have said it better… but she is still all drama. And she does act a lot. The Bachelorette or the Bachelor is not for those just wanting to be real. I just hope Josh never confronts her or that is over too.

  15. This episode made me think of Andi as the villain, not Eric. He was undoubtedly awkward in his approach, but her quick to anger reaction made me believe that Eric touched too closely to a particularly sensitive nerve of Andi’s. Rather than just calling a time out to allow the situation to defuse, she opted to use her power of rose bequeathing and just railed her frustrations out on him before insisting he leave (and then railing on the other poor sods in waiting).
IMO, she went too far; actually, she came across a bit too hypocritical: remember her frustration in attempting to have a discussion with JP after their night together when he wouldn’t let her explain herself adequately? Her choice was to storm away in anger – under the circumstances, it felt refreshing, however, in retrospect, it appears that she has a bad habit, if not also revealing herself to be immature and spoiled.

  16. Bfw….I’m really surprised at you! You’ve watched this show for years and I can’t believe you think Andi had any control over the tribute. You should know better. The lead doesn’t have control over stuff like that and never has!

People always have to point the finger and play the blame game. Andi didn’t feel the connection, period, end of story. She didn’t do anything bad or wrong.

How can someone in that position not act, at times? I think it would be close to impossible to be placed in that situation and not have to act occasionally.

  17. Two people, both of who, in the perfect world of enough sleep (which I’m sure is lacking during the taping) and hindsight, could have done better in the communication dept., still doing the best they could at the time. No bad guy(s).

  18. “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on here”. Captain Renault, Casablanca

“I’m shocked, shocked to find acting and phoniness going on here”. Eric, The Bachelorette

  19. The whole Eric Hill situation is very sad. I, for one, was haunted by watching him in these past episodes. I couldn’t help thinking that if Andi hadn’t eliminated him, he would still be alive today. Perhaps my thoughts are a bit extreme, since Eric was undoubtedly a thrill seeking adventurer – therefore his death could have taken place during another place in time. This show is so off-the-wall when it comes to finding love – and yes, a certain amount of acting is required by both the Lead and the Contestants. I was honestly convinced that Eric was only on this show just to get another stamp in his passport, as well as a chance to plug his documentary so people would follow him on his adventures around the world. As for Andi, she quit her job to see if there would be any other offers after the show airs. The bottom line is that they’re all nuts in one way or another and some truly do believe that the grass is greener on the other side so they go on this show thinking that this is their big chance to catch their big break. I do feel that Andi’s defensiveness was a bit over-the-top in how she reacted to Eric questioning her sincerity in finding true love on this show. As for Eric – he expected more from Andi because of their one-on-one date. No one was really wrong here. When you mix true feelings with fantasy, there will always be drama and hurt feelings. RIP Eric.

  20. We weren’t there so we don’t know why he was accusing her of “acting”. Maybe it is because she basically has to treat all of the guys the same even though internally she would have varying feelings amongst the guys. He did specifically say he thought he would get a special hug or greeting because they had a great date, but he watched her hug all of the guys the same.

I think Andi reacted poorly and perhaps Eric should have chosen different words when communicating, but it would seem wrong to be negative toward either.

Let his memory live in peace.

Thanks Michelle00 for the link to the article, I loved reading what his sister said. He was a very well loved man and he certainly lived his short life to the very fullest.

  21. Thanks for the article, Michelle. My heart and condolences go out to his family. RIP Eric Hill.

  22. I think they really did they best they could given the circumstances. It’s obvious they were very different people. I don’t care whether you like Andi or not, she reacted and defended herself as anyone would. Eric’s death had nothing to do with her. This show is meant to entertain, and unfortunately they are dealing with a situation they’ve never had to deal with before.

  23. I just have to say that Reality Steve is HILARIOUS. Seriously. he makes this boring, predictable show fun with his witty, blunt, creative, on-the-nose commentary. When this dumb show is finally off television, you will always have an audience because you’re writing is refreshingly humorous, honest, and creative. Sometimes, I prefer just reading your column instead of the show but it’s better to read them together. I appreciate your dry sense of humor and your unemotional detachment to these buffoons; I’m genuinely laughing out loud while reading your columns. Mike Fleiss SHOULD be paying you for enhancing is lame-o, manipulative show. Anyway, thanks!

  24. Oh and one more thing. It’s not even the spoilers that attract me to your site, it’s your writing!!!!! The spoilers have now become an added bonus/the frosting on the cupcake of you’re already hilarious dissecting of this soap opera disguised as a “reality” show. It’s an unreality reality show.

  25. Andi is going for pure physical attraction, and Josh is “her type”. Josh doesn’t seem to have much substance compared to some of the other guys, but she’s already made up her mind of who she wants after the first episode and no guy has a shot.

The cameras can’t hide that she’s not giving any of the other guys much of a chance. Eric called her out and she got flustered and upset. She’s got to have a final four and Marcus, Chris, and Nick fill those 3 slots.

It’s clear who the front runners is and it’s Josh without a doubt. It makes you wonder if Josh and Andi were introduced and knew each other as acquaintenances before the show.

How do Patrick and Andrew keep getting a rose as of Episode 4 when she seems to show no interest in either of them?
