“Reader Emails,” “Dr. Reality Steve,” & Next “Bachelor” Talk, and Holy Crap, US Weekly Credited Me For Something

Can someone help me out here? Are women across America going to be able to function like normal human beings today now that the first “50 Shades of Grey” trailer has been released? Are all the sexually frustrated, bored housewives out there now in full freak out mode that their mommy porn movie is officially starting to come to life? This is a big day for them you know. They are a different breed. Kinda like the Star Wars nerds getting a hard on when JJ Abrams tweets a picture of the Millennium Falcon from the set of the new movie, I feel like there’s the same reaction happening today seeing clips of this movie. Then again, if your life revolves around the release of a movie 6 months away, there probably isn’t much hope for you to begin with. I’ve never read any of the three books, nor do I plan to. But has any man? Ever? What guy would read fantasy porn? I mean maybe there are some freaks out there with wild ass fetishes that are probably in to that stuff, but I’m guessing no self-respecting guy decided to sit down and say, “You know what? I’m really gonna immerse myself into the ’50 Shades’ trilogy.” Any guy who did I’m assuming lives alone and read the books with his pants down at his ankles. Just saying.

Speaking of full freak out mode, that was basically what we got yesterday when the story broke about the next “Bachelor” choice coming down to Arie and Chris. The story was actually broke by Radar on Tuesday, but for whatever reason, people only started emailing me about it yesterday. The fact of the matter is, it’s true. I’ve said all along it’s going to be Chris. And maybe it still will be him. But Arie is definitely in the mix now and someone they are seriously considering. Didn’t see it coming since he’s yesterday’s news, but I’m very well aware he’s got a following, so I could see why they’d choose him if they did. My opinion? Professionally, it’d be better if they chose Arie. Personally, I’d rather see them pick Chris. Chris is the safe pick. Chris is the person on everyone’s mind right now because his run just ended and he’s the only name that’s really been mentioned for the last 3 months. The Arie choice has more “sizzle” and shock value to it, because it came out of nowhere. Well, not anymore since it’s out there he’s a possibility, but you know what I mean.

Whatever the case, one of these guys getting screwed. Either Arie is getting screwed because they’ve already filmed him in Arizona and hired him a personal trainer, yet would still choose Chris. Or Chris is getting screwed because he was flown to LA this week to meet with executives (after already meeting with them during the weekend of the MTA tapings), yet they filmed Arie in Arizona and hired him a personal trainer. So yeah, one of them is getting strung along right now by the show. I can make a case for either guy getting picked for the role. Arie would be for shock value since they know he’s got a rabid fan base, but the fact he’s publicly dated two other women from the franchise (Courtney and Selma), has numerous ex-girlfriends and hookups just chomping at the bit to run to tabloids to sell him out, and the fact that nobody would buy for a second he’s interested in finding a wife, is what would make the choice of him very curious. With that said, I could see them doing it because it would get people talking. And Chris, although looking great on paper, doesn’t really have the “buzz” that would resonate over choosing Arie. So in the end, I guess it all depends on what they’re looking for because these two guys couldn’t be more polar opposite if they tried. Do you go with the successful, Middle America, corn field boy who genuinely probably is looking for a wife since he lives in a town with less than 1,000 people, or do you go with the playboy, who lives in two bedroom condo with a roommate in Arizona who’s been known to show up at any party where girls barely out of college attend? I don’t know when the decision is coming. But when I hear who they’ve officially chosen, I’ll let you know.

I could not believe my eyes this morning when I read this story on US Weekly’s website today. I mean, once I saw the headline I immediately thought, “Oh boy. Here they go again trying to claim something as their own.” But for the first time in probably 5 years, US Weekly actually credited me with a story they ran a month later. Guess today is my lucky day or something. The other things that’s weird about this is the fact that they just flat out spoiled “Bachelor in Paradise.” Tabloids don’t spoil shows. They have to sell magazines, so as this show is airing, they run stories about contestants, ex boyfriends and girlfriends, any arrest records, etc. But they’ll never just throw in a story before the finale, “Andi is engaged to Josh!” Just like the “Bachelor” tells a story throughout the season, so do tabloids. That’s why the season begins, you don’t see stories about any of the final four people. They’re not gonna tell you in week 1 that one of the final 2 guys did this or did that. No, they save that towards the end of the season because that’s when it’s relevant. It’s how tabloids work. US Weekly absolutely knows that Andi chose Josh. They’ve known for months. But they don’t start running their “Andi & Josh” stories until closer to the end of the season, because if they run it in the beginning, what good does that do them? Not sure why they just flat out spoiled “Bachelor in Paradise” though. Maybe they were sick of getting beat to every story about this franchise by me so they figured since it’s a new show, and they don’t know if the audience is hooked yet, they’d hook them with the Marcus/Lacy engagement. Definitely outside the norm for them, especially when they have a working relationship with the show’s production company, but hey, thanks for the acknowledgement today.

Don’t forget the live video chat tonight at 9:00pm EST/6:00pm PST where I’ll be taking your questions on all things “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” related. And Christian and Anastasia too.

  1. To the first emailer… I had the EXACT SAME THING happen to me. Granted we were together twice as long and I am 10 years older than you….He did the same thing. Out of the blue, no explaintaion, and cut me off, etc… THOUGHT he was the greatest boyfriend…. It hurt I know but it has been 9 months now, and guess what? I met someone else. This guy treats me 100% better than the previous one. My ex never bought me flowers and said he never would, I get a new bouquet from this guy every week. My ex never told me I was beautiful, new guy says it everyday, a few times a day. So I am telling you it takes some time but it does get easier… Maybe you should write that letter (and also add how he made you feel and how hurt you are), but don’t send it. Seal it in an evnvople and give it to a close friend… In a few months ask that friend for the letter back.. I promise you, you will read it and not believe how far you have come. Also it is ok to cry, watch romantic movies, and listen to sappy music. You will be OK I promise. The next guy will be even better because of what you learned about yourself and relationship from your ex. Good luck to you!

  2. So if somebody that JUST got married “unblocks” you from her Facebook, I’d say that’s somebody that would really love a nice wedding gift from you. *LOL* I wouldn’t bother. Anybody that dumps a friend with no explanation, combined with outright nastiness deserves nothing in my book.

Charlotte on “Sex and the City” said It takes half the total time you went out with someone to get over them. By that calculation, the 1st letter writer should have moved on at least 6 months ago. Seriously, time to let it GO!

  3. Hoping the Arie rumors are true because I personally find Chris to be incredibly boring and dull and his season would basically be Andi’s season x2. He just doesn’t seem to have much of a personality. Arie just seems like he would be a way better fit for the role of Bachelor if purely from an entertainment standpoint. Who cares of he truly doesn’t want a wife. The majority of these people with maybe the exclusion of Sean go on this for other reasons anyways. Arie would be no different but atleast he’s more interesting to watch.

  4. Chris honestly seems like a nice guy who is ready to settle down but I don’t see him being an interesting bachelor to follow. He may bore us all although most of the drama usually comes from the contestants anyways. They should just pick Arie, as sleazy as he’s turned out to be, he’ll out on a hell of a show. Because finding love has always been secondary on The Bachelor (minus one or two contestants).

  5. I thought I was happy about Chris being the Bachelor and I was prepared to settle in for a season of farm talk and ghost in the graveyard, but Arie changes everything. I’m not a fan of his or anything, but he’ll be different for sure. I in no way think he’s ready to stop tom-catting around and settle down with one woman but who cares? I want entertainment and he can be as shallow as he wants, fine by me. Hope he gets it, but ugh, poor Chris if he doesn’t. Oh well…

  6. I am not a fan of Arie the person, but I will settle for him if it means Chris is forced to bypass this train wreck show. Save yourself now Chris.

  7. If Arie is the bachelor it will be the first time since Deanna’s season that I won’t watch. He grosses me out for some reason. I was so excited at the thought of Chris being the Bachelor, because he seems like the real deal… Then again I think he is way too good for this show. I would much rather watch him though! I don’t want to waste my evenings watching Arie suck face with every single girl while he pretends to want more than that. No one will buy it!

  8. And people bought that Juan Pablo (and countless others) wanted more than that? Wow. I think Arie would be just as entertaining as Juan Pablo. Should be hilarious. Can’t wait for the beat down from Chris on ATFR– Do you love her? DO YOU LOVE HER?!
When Chris H. asked Chris S. how he expected to meet someone, I was shouting, dating apps, dude! And please, he’s not out there sitting on tractor in the middle of nowhere. He’s a businessman. Plenty of connections, especially now.

  9. I have a feeling, even if Chris doesn’t get the gig, he won’t have any trouble finding women who would love to be with him.

  10. Arie? I guess he could go for Bob Guiney’s record and maybe do a two on one with Jef during the first cocktail party. Then perhaps tongue down all 25 girls. What a free for all that would be.

  11. I think Arie would be a great choice. Chris is okay, but I don’t find him great looking, and have no idea if there’s a personality in there somewhere. I didn’t see or hear enough to know if the guy can carry the show. Arie would be a hoot and I’ll bet ratings would be excellent. If he is chosen, the only thing I wouldn’t look forward to is RS putting him down week after week after week….. That will get very old, very fast!

  12. I really hope it’s Arie Jr. I have always been a big fan of his dad’s. My son and I go to some IndyCar races and I have met Arie Jr. a couple of times. He is very personable and extremely good looking….even better than TV. I know he wouldn’t be there for the “right reasons” but he sure would be fun to watch!

  13. With Arie, you essentially get a more intelligent, English speaking version of Huan Pah-Blow. Both are in it for the fame and tail and neither one has a real job. Granted, we won’t be hearing “ees OK”, seeing randomly CAPITALIZED tweets & have an ex girlfriend that lives with him and his kid type thing going on. But Arie carries with him all his snapchat pics of him with underage girls, the wreckage of various franchise related hookups and the aura of a trust fund kid. Nonetheless, if JPBlow’s ratings were good, I’m sure Arie could deliver something similar. Probably a better choice over Old McDonald.

  14. Found the viewpoint of the person writing in that said hearing the line ‘I have good credit’ to be a rather outdated view of a marriage. While there is a definite valid point about financial security, in this day and age that’s not only the man’s ‘domain’. Andi, as trained as a lawyer, is obviously a smart woman, likely in good credit standing herself – and quite likely financially independent. Maybe what she needs to complete her is emotional security, not financial. If the genders were switched in that statement, would there be that strong of a reaction if it was the woman living at home? Times have changed. Not saying financial aspects aren’t important, they most definitely are, but whose responsibility it is has changed.

Maybe Chris had more money, but if she doesn’t love him then how would that end up being a happy marriage?

  15. I think Steve is a secret Fifty Shades of Grey fan and has read all the books…..just sayin’.
