-Anytime the first scene of a show is Chris Harrison walking towards the camera saying, “Hi, I’m Chris Harrison” you know nothing good is about to happen. In this case, he did his best Chris Hansen impersonation and tried to pretend he was trying to solve a major crime. For the love of God, could they have played that up any more than they did? You do realize after the fact that if this producer doesn’t jump off the balcony and break his legs, there’s no story here, right? The producer is the one that made the story, not Michelle since, well, she really didn’t do anything wrong. Chris Harrison says before filming started when they were checked in to the hotel, she started flirting with a camera guy named Ryan. Ummmm, how come only crew members named Ryan get to hook up with contestants on this show? First it was the Ryan Callahan/Rozlyn scandal, and now Ryan Putz and Michelle. Could there have been a more appropriate last name for this guy too? Geez, it’s like they hired him strictly so he could go do this. What’s even more ironic, is that both Michelle K and Rozlyn were on Jake’s season. Was there something in the water during that season? Or maybe they were so turned off by the gay vibe that Jake emitted, they just felt the need to look elsewhere. Michelle being four years later, but still. Humor me here so it fits with my point. Thank you.
-So after Michelle eliminated herself, Chris tells us that Ryan came to her hotel room that night and they spent some time together. Mind you, at no point has Chris ever said at this point these two slept together, had sex, groped each other, etc. Hell, he hasn’t even said they kissed. So since this show think its audience are complete dumb asses, they must do a re-enactment like we wouldn’t be able to follow along with this simple storyline. Complete silliness and basically, they’ve hyped this thing for a week that 1) was spoiled over a month ago right here and 2) was about 100 times less scandalous than they were making it seem. So Ryan came to her room the night she was eliminated “to talk,” another producer knocked on the door, they got scared, and Ryan jumped off the balcony breaking both of his legs. So by showing us this using crew members to re-enact, I guess it was supposed to be funny. Exploitive, yes. Funny? Not so much. Not that we wouldn’t think they’d exploit the people involved, but if you really think about it, exactly what are they exploiting here?
-The Rozlyn scandal during Jake’s season was a big deal because her alleged affair with a producer was happening while she was still on the show. So they confront her, they kick her off the show, and you’ve got your scandal. Makes perfect sense. Rozlyn was supposed to be “competing” for Jake, yet she was allegedly banging a producer while still in the house. That’s a scandal. I get it. This? Not nearly on the same level, and frankly, not even close. Once again, yet another “scandal” which the show has no footage of happening, hence the reason they probably went with the re-enactment. But the show admits that nothing physical actually happened between Michelle and Ryan, other than talking to both parties and yes there was flirtation there and time spent in each person’s room. That’s a scandal? Really? Since when? It doesn’t even make sense for Chris Harrison to go to Michelle’s room the next day with the camera crew waiting outside. For what? She was already off the show. If she was caught the night before with a producer in her room after she eliminated herself, wouldn’t they just say, “Hey, we know you and Ryan have a thing going on” and not make a big deal about it? If she was still on the show, absolutely it would’ve all made sense. But she was already gone, and nothing physical even happened.
-In addition, at no point during Chris’ talk with the audience were we ever told either party was in violation of their contract or anything of the such. Even more reason why this made no sense. If anything, the producer is more to blame in this since I’m guessing his contract says not to fraternize with the contestants. I’m sure Michelle isn’t the first contestant to flirt with a crew member and certainly won’t be the last. This was ABC’s hype machine at its finest. Ever since last week’s episode ended, it’s been nothing but producers and Chris Harrison hyping “you don’t want to miss the first 10 minutes of next week’s episode” like it was a giant ordeal. A contestant and a crew member flirting and not even hooking up before she was on the show and after she was eliminated is a big deal? How lame. Yes, seeing Ryan sitting in a hospital bed with two broken legs was pretty ridiculous. The fact they got that guy to agree to come on camera while in a hospital to basically say nothing was unbelievable. They’ve got that guy by the balls and basically he had to do what they said. Nonetheless, a huge buildup to very little payoff, which is par for the course for them. And of ALL the women in the house to go for, Ryan? Putz couldn’t be more appropriate.
Chris Harrison actually did tell the rest of the gang what happened with Michelle and Ryan. It wasn’t shown during the show but it’s in the deleted scenes. Michelle and Marquel seemed to get a kick out of it:
