Quite a few things to get to before today’s column begins as today I’m going to officially announce how all of you are invited to my birthday party in a few months. Before we get to that though, we’ve got ratings to discuss, the “Women Tell All” taping this weekend, Chris Harrison’s two blogs, Chris Soules’ People.com blog, Nell Kalter’s Vanderpump Rules recap, production asking for help on the “Bachelorette,” and a poll for you to vote on Jade. Last night was a very interesting episode in that, we all knew what was coming. This was 3 ½ months in the making. We knew Jade was going to share her past with him, and by the previews, we knew she’d actually SHOW him a video of herself which was incredibly awkward. However, Jade is so innocent sounding, it’s almost like it doesn’t even seem like she could actually do that, does it? Maybe she put on a hell of an act this season, but she doesn’t come across as the loud, in your face, life of the party girl that I’m sure most of us expected. Sure, her Instagram proves otherwise, but on this show, she’s about as soft spoken as you can get.
So I ask you the readers, I’m curious to know your thoughts. Give me your reaction below:
I know which way I voted. How about you? Yesterday’s poll question that I put in a few hours after the column was posted asked you whether or not you thought Jade should’ve just told Chris about her past, just told the girls, or both? Overwhelmingly, a lot of you thought she should’ve just told Chris, which I agree with. Vote today and we’ll talk about where the results stand tomorrow.
Ratings from Sunday night are in, and as expected, they were way off due to the fact they were going head-to-head with the SNL 40 Year Anniversary special, which absolutely destroyed in the ratings. Brought in over 23 million viewers and a 7.5 in the 18-49. Boffo numbers. So naturally, the “Bachelor” drew it’s lowest numbers of the season Sunday night with only 5.9 million tuning in, and a 1.5 in the 18-49 demo. However, back in it’s original time, last night’s ratings drew its best overall audience of the season, as 8.8 million tuned in. Down to a 2.5 rating in the Adult demo from 2.7 last week, but when you’re in week 8 and pulling your best audience to date, things are good.
This weekend the “Women Tell All” tapes in LA. For those unfamiliar with how this works, the show is taping before next week’s overnight date episode airs. So what they do is show the audience the episode beforehand, then bring the girls out and tape the episode or else it wouldn’t make sense as to why Kaitlyn is there, since she’s the one that gets eliminated in Bali. But this should be one of the more interesting WTA’s this season as we’ll get to hear from Jade, you’ve got Ashley vs Kelsey, and now after last night Britt vs Carly. Not to mention, finding out which chicks hook up with which guys from past seasons who will no doubt crash the after party. Happens every season. I’m in CA this weekend, so I doubt I’m gonna have the WTA spoilers that night, but I will post them when I get them. Probably some time next week. Check these girls social media accounts Saturday night if you wanna see any late night shenanigans.
Here are your blogs for this week. Chris Harrison’s interview with TVGuide.com is up, and it’s interesting how he specifically said he could see Britt as the “Bachelorette” and she’d give a good season, but never said the same for Carly. Exactly. Because Carly has zero chance. He did make it clear though that they’re waiting til the WTA to make a decision, which is pretty much what they do every season. Chris also says a lot of the same stuff on his blog for Yahoo . Chris Soules’ People.com blog is lengthy and he lets us in a few things that weren’t shown in the hometown date episode, so check that out. Man, and I thought I was wordy. His ghost writer can write for days.
I know the producers, especially Mike Fleiss, love to go to Twitter the last couple weeks and say, “Let us know who you want as the Bachelorette!” It’s all crap. They don’t care who you want. They are going to pick who they are going to pick. You really think they’re sitting there tallying up every time someone retweets “#CarlyforBachelorette” or “#JadeforBachelorette?” Of course not. You know why? Because every single one of the girls in the running has a fan base. Plenty of people love Carly, plenty of people dislike Carly, plenty of people love Jade, plenty of people dislike Jade, etc. Your vote means nothing to them. They are going to choose who they think will bring them the best ratings. Period.
Nell Kalter’s Vanderpump Rules recap is now up so you can check that out as well.
Now, on to the big announcement I teased last night. I’ve never been a big birthday guy. Ever. It’s always been low key, maybe a BBQ at my sister’s house, or dinner at a restaurant with some of my closest friends. But being that this year is my 40th birthday, and the website is getting bigger and bigger every season thanks to you guys, I’ve decided that you are ALL invited to my 40th birthday bash this year in Las Vegas. I mean, c’mon. Where else was I gonna have it? Granted, most of you will not be able to attend and I understand that, but just know you’re invited. Here are the details:
-The party will be Friday night, June 5th, at the Mandalay Bay Hotel
-Party will begin roughly at 8:00pm
-There will be an open bar
-Since the party will be in my room, I’m looking at max of probably 55-60 people, give or take a few
-I do not want any gifts. If you took the time to come to Vegas for the weekend, that’s enough of a gift from you
So here’s where I’m at. I’m giving you over 3 months to fit this into your plans since not everyone can just make a Vegas jaunt on short notice. However, if you send an email saying you want to come, I will put you on the list. But because there’s a possibility more than 60 people might say they want in, just because you say in February you want to come, I know how plans can change and I can’t reserve a spot for someone or a group if they end up cancelling. I can’t confirm anyone until I see some sort of flight reservation (if you need to fly), or room reservation to know that you’ll be there. Only people who email me beforehand before I’ve reached my max, who I will then email back to confirm, are officially confirmed. By all means, if you can’t make Friday but will be there Saturday and Sunday, that’s fine as well. But for Friday’s party, I need a head count and need to know names of who exactly is coming so I can keep track. I can’t just let everyone in since it’ll turn into a fire hazard. The room is big, but it’s not gonna fit 80 or 100. So the first 60 or so who can confirm to me they’re in for Friday night, June 5th, you’re in. Anyone else interested in showing up Saturday wanting to hang out, let me know as well. Saturday there is not anything set in stone yet, but I’m guessing they’ll be dinner/drinks and/or a club appearance at Mix Lounge at the top of Mandalay.
I don’t expect anyone to book anything today. I get that. Just know that I really have no idea how fast it’ll fill up. So the quicker you book the better. If you are interested, email me whenever you can, mention “Vegas” somewhere in the subject line, and I will keep you in my folder as a possibility until something is booked. This will be a fun weekend, and I look forward to meeting a lot of you, which have made the success of the site possible. I’m excited for this party, and I think it’ll be a great time. Got a couple things planned for it that I don’t want to give away just yet. But really, how can you go wrong with a weekend in Vegas? That’s what I thought. I’ll be mentioning this party for the next 3 ½ months until it fills up, so first come, first serve. Look forward to seeing you there.
