Well to say last night was quite the experience would be an understatement. I could probably write 3 pages about attending the Taylor Swift concert but I’ll spare you the intricate details, not to mention I have a plane to catch homne. Just now that my niece Olivia had a blast, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. Great concert. Lets just say the “Swifties” are an interesting clan. Can’t say there were too many men there that’s for sure. And a lot of little kids barely made it through the first half of the show before falling asleep. The tickets said 7:30 but her website says 6:00. So of course I listened to the website and got there at 5:30 when we were told the opening acts don’t start til 7:30 and Taylor goes on about 9:15. Wonderful. So yeah a lot of sitting and waiting, but in the end, more than worth it. It was loud, I got a glow in the dark wristband that lit up to the music, and it was basically one giant sing along. Olivia sang all night. I just sang in my head because I’d never want to upstage Taylor at her own concert. I give it 2 thumbs up and I recommend any parent who has a kid that loves Taylor to consider going.
Sorry about not posting a new poll question yesterday. I still am having issues getting in to that website, but I’ll have a new one in there tomorrow. Also, get your “Dr. Reality Steve” questions in for this week. Only a couple weeks remaining until an extended “Reader Emails” and “Dr. Reality Steve” hiatus. On to this week’s batch…
Quick ratings question. When you say, for example, that the show had 5 million viewers and a 1.2 rating, what does a 1.2, 1.3, etc mean? Does it have any correlation to the millions of viewers or are the numbers completely separate?
Comment: I’ve been asked this a lot and I have a horrible time explaining it. Mainly because I still don’t fully understand it. So here’s the Wikipedia page for how to determine ratings. Hopefully this helps.
When is the public going to realize that every Bachelor, Bachelorette or BIP broadcast is nothing but an elaborate puppet show? Every word and every action is manipulated by the producers to create drama and they definitely know how to pull the strings. Nothing is real except for the booze and the sex (every cast member knows that Fantasy Suites are part of the show). Finding a spouse is not a producer expectation here. If it happens, the producers are just as surprised as you or me. So why would anyone want to come onto this show? EXPOSURE ON TV, ETC.! They are all actors whether they think so or not. The better the actor they are the more exposure they get and the smarter ones know this. Every show someone seems to ask someone else, “Are you here for the right reasons?” Well if they aren’t there for booze, sex and exposure, they aren’t there for the right reasons.
Let’s take Carly for an example. Her brother was getting married during BIP, but she passed up her brother’s wedding for BIP. What could be so important that she would do that? EXPOSURE! She wasn’t there to find a husband. She was there for the booze, sex and the exposure and she got plenty of all three plus a little money for being an actress. How about Jade and Tanner? Did they find love? Maybe, but it wasn’t why they were there. Who really expects to find love in four weeks? Comment: Actually it was three weeks, but point taken. How about Joe and Samantha? Did the producers know what they were planning? Of course they did and they orchestrated it for maximum drama. I wouldn’t call them good actors but they played their part very well and got the exposure (booze and sex) they wanted.
So why do After Paradise every week? They are trying to get the public to believe what they’re watching is reality while continuing to create drama via guests and cast members. To me this is falling flat. They had a poll about who Juelia should be most offended by, Joe or Sam. Really? Why should anyone be offended? They are just playing out the role they’ve been given. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. Remember who is pulling the puppet strings.
Comment: They also make the show because it’s highly profitable and millions of people watch every week, regardless of how silly, manipulated, contrived, or embarrassing it is. So lets not forget that. It wouldn’t be on the air 12 years and 30 seasons (along with 5 seasons of summer shows) if it wasn’t making money.
You probably already answered this, but are you going to read Andi’s book?
Did you ever find out who broke up with who, and why? My friend
ran into Josh in a bar in Tampa soon after the breakup but didn’t get any info
from him. Said he was a nice guy.
Comment: Oh, I’ll definitely read that one because it’s going to have dirt on their relationship. Granted, we are only hearing Andi’s side of things and I highly doubt Josh is going to write a book in response, but lets just say, she isn’t writing a book to praise him for 200 pages. I’m guessing she is going to bring up things in their relationship that happened. And from what I’m hearing, it’s not good.
What do you think of Joe’s tweets? He keeps tweeting about how he is in a relationship with his dream girl named Alexis. Isn’t this a violation of his contract?
Comment: No. That Alexis girl he’s tweeting at is a porn star/stripper. She’s never responded to him, so he was just playing around. He’s not dating her.
Love your site and all of the spoilers that you do! I’m definitely envious of your job!
I know you’ve mentioned that Tenley is definitely interested in Ben H. but everyone knows he’s going to be the next Bachelor. All of her Facebook posts lately have been super sad ex: “ I’ve been feeling a little sick, very tired, & honestly, emotionally drained” and “ It turns out I don’t know best. One of my biggest lessons has been how much my way hurts. No more trying to make my way work or try to change God’s mind.” Maybe I’m just reading too far into this (but when someone posts status’ like that they must know they are making people wonder) if it’s all over her being hurt due to Ben’s Bachelor confirmation? I’m assuming he has recently signed all the contracts etc. since the announcement is coming soon.
I know you’ve said there isn’t any chance of her going on his season but if she’s this crushed by him, I could honestly see her going on. Plus, Ben isn’t anywhere near as “controversial” as Kaitlyn was so those producers are going to have to drum up drama one way or another. Any word on this or even the slightly possibility she goes on?
Thanks for all the spoilers!!! J
Comment: I really don’t see that happening. She’s said she wouldn’t, so it’d take an awful lot of convincing by producers at this point. I guess anything is possible, but I’d be really surprised if she did.
Saw on twitter something about Jade adjusting to a new city, did she move to be with Tanner? Does he still live in Kansas City, MO?
Comment: Jade moved to Nashville with Carly. Not to live with her, but they just moved there at the same time together. Yes, Tanner lives in KC. So she’s at least closer to him now, but I have no idea what their plans are once the season ends.
As I was chuckling over the Twitter war between Joe Bailey and his new Army of Trolls, I noticed a photo on his Twitter feed where he was burning something (not sure what), and appeared to be holding a cigarette at the same time.
This made me wonder: how many of these cast members and/or leads are actually smokers? Are cast members even allowed to smoke during filming, or do they have to abstain like Survivor cast members for the duration of filming, albeit for different reasons?
I even recall when Top Model supposedly banned smoking somewhere around Cycle 8 or 9, claiming it “looked bad” for the young teenage girls who follow the show (and I agree). At any rate, since smoking has become less socially acceptable in recent years, I was curious if you had any insight into the percentage of smokers who get cast.
God knows if I was the lead, the first guys I’d send home would be the smokers, but that’s me. I’m also a child of the 70’s/early 80’s, so the adults in my life smoked like chimneys, both indoors and out, so they reeked like ash trays even from several feet away. Seriously, I can’t think of a bigger turn-off. (Perhaps nowadays, the younger generation who are foolish enough to start smoking got better at disguising it, I don’t know.)
Comment: I’m pretty sure you can smoke, but you are escorted away from everyone and have a handler with you. But yeah, I can’t imagine anyone who is smoking on that show is lasting long.
I have been reading your blog for years, I love all the spoilers that you give out. I may not watch all episodes of TB but I definitely read your blog. Just wanted to let you know that I recently started watching Friday Night Lights based on your recommendation and LOVE it!!! When I first read about it on your blog, I thought it is a reality show, then a football wives show like Astronaut Wives Club, but I was looking for a new show after binge watching Entourage and fell in love with FNL. Thanks for the recommendation. I got into Unreal as well and love it. Please do recommend more shows that you enjoy. I am always looking for shows to binge watch. Some shows that I recommend are Extras (so funny), Misfits, and Orphan Black.
Comment: I’ll recommend “24” and “Lost” since those two along with “FNL” are my three favorite shows of all time. But “24” has 8 full seasons and a 9th season that’s only 13 episodes, and “Lost” is 6 full seasons so you’ll have to dedicate some serious time to those.
Hey Steve! First of all, I want to say thanks for all of the work you do! I love everything about your website, and the fact that you’re a fellow Texan makes it even better! I am wondering if there is anywhere I can find the Jake/Vienna interview that you posted about yesterday. I have been out of town so I have missed the past few episodes of bachelor in paradise, and I definitely missed that interview somehow!! Thanks!
Comment: Wait, huh? The Jake/Vienna interview that I posted was the Jake/Vienna interview. Am I missing something here? Jake and Vienna did that interview years ago when they broke up. That wasn’t done recently.
