The “Bachelorette” JoJo Episode 1 Recap – Incl the Jordan Backlash, Ashley & JP (UPDATED), & “Bachelor in Paradise” Casting News

Wow. I don’t think we’ve ever seen as explosive of a premiere episode as that before. No, not what we actually saw on screen. Psshhhh. That was the same ol, same ol – introduce Jojo, have her talk to past leads, guys intro videos, guys limo entrances, cocktail party, rose ceremony, the end. Wash, rinse, repeat. I’m talking about the social media explosion, specifically Jordan and Grant getting called out by women online during the show. In all my years covering this show, I’ve NEVER had this many women come to me (especially this early) in the season, with stories about the guys. It’s unheard of. In a span of about 45 minutes last night, I got FOUR new emails regarding women Jordan has been with, which did nothing but confirm everything I told you about last week. It’s crazy. I didn’t ask for it, and it’s nothing I hadn’t heard of about the guy before, but geez. It’s coming in droves. Then you’ve got a friend of Grant’s ex calling him out on Twitter, which is crazy, since I essentially got that exact same email 5 weeks ago. Let me ask if I can share it. And then the Robby stuff which I reported a month ago, actually becomes a storyline this season regarding his ex gf, Hope, who he broke up with in mid January.

But lets start with the Jordan stuff. In case you missed it on Instagram last night, I made sure to tweet it out. This was what his ex Brittany Farrar posted on IG:

I had a feeling Brittany was talking this season. I just thought it wouldn’t be til later. She wasted no time firing that salvo. Not to mention for the entertainment mags to pick it up. People.com already ran with it this morning. And here’s the thing for those who tweeted at me calling her a “jealous ex” or “classless” – that makes no sense. How is she jealous? They dated two years ago. If Jordan is gonna go on the show and talk about how his relationship ended because he was concentrating on football too much, which is a complete lie, she has every right to tell her side. How does that make her jealous? Not quite understanding that one. All she’s doing is setting the record straight. All you need to do is read what I wrote last Thursday, and Brittany’s IG post confirms it. I don’t make stuff up just for the sake of it. If I’m gonna run with something like that, you can bet I vetted it out as best I could. She makes it clear as day why they broke up, which is exactly what I’d heard. And the fact that Brittany is close with Jordan’s brother’s girlfriend Olivia Munn, and Olivia even took the time to “like” that IG post, well, you have your answer as to why Jordan and Aaron don’t have much of a relationship. Man, if only Aaron took the time to “like” that post. That’d be utterly hilarious.

But here’s the thing: JoJo is in fantasy land right now. Come Aug. 1st when they’re sitting there at the ATFR and basically have 3 months of pent up frustration with not being able to address all the scandalous reports that are coming from now until then, Jojo will absolutely sit there and defend him publicly. We’ll hear phrases that night like “jealous ex’s,” “we’ve talked about it,” “we don’t pay attention to that stuff,” “we’re in love,” etc. You know it’s coming. But as a woman, there’s no way that isn’t a GIANT red flag to hear that about your new fiancé. She doesn’t see it now, and probably won’t for a few months, but she will. I can already see when we get their inevitable breakup statement to the media, or when JoJo finally opens up about her breakup with Jordan that “I should’ve listened to what others were saying more.” It’s coming. You can tell me til you’re blue in the face that his past doesn’t matter, and he fell for JoJo on the show and that’s all he wants now, and that’s fine. I’ll also tell you you’re nuts and you’re living in fantasy land as well. You don’t know half the story. This is not going to end well for JoJo in the long run, and I’ve been saying that for a month. As my tweet said, this is only the beginning. The Jordan stories of his skirt chasing will dominate the tabloids the next two months. You’ve been warned. Impossible that deep down that won’t bother the sh** out of JoJo.

Now, lets move on to our neighborhood fire fighter Grant. Seems like a good dude. Saves lives, good looking guy, and here for all the right reasons. Well, maybe 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. This was posted to Twitter last night:

I’m gonna go back to the person who emailed me this story about Grant and see if they want me to post that email. That tweet was the gist of it, but there’s a little more detail from the email I received back on April 15th. I’ll keep you updated.

In the season preview teaser, we see JoJo confronting Robby about his ex. This is what I posted back on April 13th in regards to what I was told about Robby and his ex’s relationship:

“Here’s what I can tell you from what I was able to find out: The breakup definitely happened in January, and remember, final casting weekend for this show is the last weekend in January and first weekend in February. Which makes for a whole boatload of questions, mainly what is a guy just out of a four year relationship doing on this show? Then again, we all know none of these people really care about finding a wife. He’s out to promote himself. Can’t fault him for that. They all do it. But geez, by that timeline he was no doubt in talks with the “Bachelorette” at some point while he was still with his 4 year girlfriend at the time. Also, I’ve been told she had no idea he was on the show until after he’d already left. He never told her he had been talking to the show, was thinking of going on, or had agreed to do it. So lets see how much he lies or downplays his 4 year relationship with Hope to JoJo, because there’s zero chance he can really be honest about it since no woman in her right mind would keep him around knowing he’d just done that. And by the way, JoJo and Hope look like they could be sisters. I guess Robby has a type.”

So yeah. We’re gonna have that to deal with this season as well. JoJo really found herself some winners. Translation: Production did a hell of a job casting a bunch of shady guys that’ll have people talking all season.

One thing I didn’t do in last Thursday’s spoiler column was give my thoughts on who the next “Bachelor” will be. Well obviously, the three guys who finished top 4 that didn’t win – Chase, Luke, and Robby – are all under consideration. We know the “Bachelor” usually comes from top 4. Only Juan Pablo and Jake are recent Bachelors that finished outside of top 4 who got the gig. I think Robby’s ex stuff will be too much for him to overcome. I don’t see him getting the lead. Especially since it becomes a storyline on the show. Which leaves Chase and Luke, two guys who I think are rather similar in their approach, both spiritual guys, and as of this point, I’ve actually heard good things about. So your guess is as good as mine, and there’s still 2 months to before anything is even decided, but you can pretty much count on your next “Bachelor” being Luke or Chase. I could see either one. I have no preference either way.

Some Ashley and JP news, and not the one they shared with everyone yesterday. They announced on social media they are pregnant and having a girl. However, the more interesting note is what I can confirm today. Last Thursday night, I got 4 emails in a span of 30 minutes all asking me if I’d heard anything about Ashley and JP filming “Couples Therapy” on VH1. I hadn’t heard anything at that point. I’d noticed she posted a picture earlier that day hugging her son Ford saying that she hadn’t seen him in 2 weeks, which I thought was weird, but never gave it more of my initial thought of “Why would Ashley be away from her son for two weeks?” Once I was told in these emails that “Couples Therapy” had just finished filming and there were rumors Ashley and JP were on it, I went to a source to see if it was legit and got it confirmed. Yes, they were on it and just got back from filming last week. “Couples Therapy” usually airs in September.

There isn’t much in this franchise that surprises me when it comes to these contestants, but I gotta say, this one absolutely did. Not saying that I know anything about Ashley and JP’s marriage, because I don’t, but they just never struck me as two that A) were having any marital issues B) were having any marital issues that warranted them leaving their child for two weeks to go film the show. Obviously they’re fine since they’re having another baby and it’s not like they’re going to get divorced, but, you’ve heard me talk about “Couples Therapy” in this column a lot. That show is no joke. Like, the couples that go on that show are hot messes. Ashley & JP have always come across to me as one of the most normal “Bachelor” couples we’ve had. With “Celebrity Marriage Boot Camp,” when Trista and Ryan and Sean and Catherine went on it, they were the normal couples in their respective casts. You can go on that show and your relationship not be on the brink of disaster. Everyone else was crazy, and they just went on there to make some money and maybe improve their communication skills. The two “Bachelor” couples that have been on “Couples Therapy?” Kasey and Vienna and Juan Pablo and Nikki. HOT. MESSES. So yeah, to see Ashley and JP doing this show is rather surprising. They’ve never struck me as a couple that’s always capitalizing on money opportunities because of their “Bachelor success.” They moved to Miami, Ashley I believe is still doing dental stuff, and JP seems to be successful. I just don’t get it. I guess everyone has their own reasons for doing things, but wow, this one really surprised me. CORRECTION: After that long diatribe, I found out after this post that Ashley & JP did NOT film “Couples Therapy.” I’ll let you know if I find out if a show even was filmed, and if so, which one.

Now lets talk a little “Bachelor in Paradise.” We’re only a couple weeks away from filming beginning, and the rumors are running wild as to who will be on it. Remember, until someone has a ticket booked and in hand, NOTHING is a guarantee when it comes to being cast on Paradise. And hell, even Mikey Tenerelli was brought out to Mexico for season 1 and stayed in a hotel for a week before they told him he wasn’t cast. So I guess even a plane ticket isn’t a guarantee anymore. These names will be ever changing, and nothing is official really until the show is finished filming. A majority of your contestants will be Ben’s girls and JoJo’s guys, just like last season was mostly Chris Soules’ girls, and Kaitlyn’s guys, because they are the two most recent seasons in people’s minds. This is by no means an official list, but here are the names I am hearing for this season’s Paradise:

Ben’s Girls:

Emily Ferguson
Haley Ferguson
Izzy Goodkind
Lace Morris
Jennifer Saviano
Olivia Caridi
Caila Quinn
Jami Letain
Lauren Himle
Amanda Stanton
Leah Block
Rachel Tchen

(If you ask me, that’s an All Star lineup right there. Especially if the Olivia and Caila rumors are true, which I’m hearing they are)

JoJo’s Guys:

James Taylor
Vinny Venteria
Evan Bass
Christian Bishop
Derek Peth
Grant Kemp
Chad Johnson
Wells Adams

Former Contestants who are definitely being talked to:

Jef Holm
Josh Murray
Courtney Robertson
Carly Waddell
Ashley Iaconetti

CORRECTION: You can scratch Courtney off the list. Got info after the post that she’s not on it.

Whoa. Count me in. That’s some heavy hitters there. Again, nothing official about this list since nobody’s left for filming yet, but expect to see a lot of those names when the show films.

Ratings are in from last night, and it’s pretty steady with Kaitlyn’s premiere episode. Last year drew 7.2 million for the premiere with a 2.1 rating, and JoJo drew 6.7 million viewers with a 2.0 rating. Doesn’t mean one season is better than the other. But what it does show is the staying power of this franchise. “Bachelorette” isn’t going anywhere and those are probably numbers they expected. Next week will take a dip since it’s Memorial Day, but that’s expected.

It’s been two months but get your “Reader Emails” and “Dr. Reality Steve” emails in now. I’m sure you have plenty to talk about this season, as I can’t remember a more tabloid-y season than this one. Holy crap we’re in for a glutton of stories the next two months. As for the live video chat, I honestly don’t know when that’ll start back up. I’m trying to figure some things out on what to do. This Thursday I’ll be in CA for my birthday weekend, so I don’t know if I’m doing Thursday’s show yet. The following Thursday I’m probably occupied as well. I really want to trend more towards podcasting, but need to do more research and get everything situated before that happens. The live video chats will happen this season, it just won’t be every week.

I did this video with friend and former WFAA anchor Amy Vanderoef talking about JoJo’s season. Also, yesterday morning I was on “Good Morning Texas” to talk about JoJo and the like. You can view that video clip here.

And finally today’s poll question is about none other than Jordan. C’mon, could it possibly be about anyone else?

Once a cheater, always a cheater!

We shouldn’t be surprised that a lot of the guys are extra douchey. You pretty much have to be a douche to be interested in going on the show. The ego needs to be pretty big & the need for attention has to be bigger. That’s a pretty good start towards being a douche

I find it especially rich that everyone is saying “poor JoJo” when she is basically the female version of Jordan Rodgers. Didn’t she do the exact same thing with her ex boyfriend who she told Ben she was “completely done with” during her time on the show? She got sent home by Ben and went right back to the guy only to dump him when she found out she could be the next bachelorette. The two are PERFECT for each other.

This has the potential to be the trashiest season yet. I am detecting that JoJo has a bit of a potty mouth and an off color sense of humor which should fit perfectly with this douchey group of guys. Should be epic. I also think she is pretty funny. It seems the editing is catching some of her more unguarded moments. Jillian could also have probably filled a highlight reel with off color and drunken observations, but the show was much more “buttoned up” back then.

As an aside, I don’t think Jordan is the least bit attractive and his hair reminds me of a worse version of Jef Holm’s hair. What all these gals from his past saw in him , other than his famous brother, eludes me. His skinny legs in the skinny jeans was just a bad bad look too.

Not everybody is saying “poor JoJo”. I think she’ll get exactly the guy she wants and she’ll have plenty of time to find out exactly what he’s all about.

“Poor” JoJo was raised in an affluent family, had her sorority-girl education paid for an her own company handed to her. She’ll reap what she sows. I think she’s basically a decent person, but she’s not some disadvantaged woman who pulled herself up from the mean streets and carved out a life on her own. I think she wants a hot guy handed to her on a silver platter and I think that’s exactly what happens. It’s what the show is really about, so it’s win/win for everybody.

Really? Did you read the article that Steve wrote? How about the two comments before mine?

^^ Neither comment above yours indicated any sympathy for JoJo or even mentioned her. Maybe do a re-read.

And I didn’t detect any “poor JoJo” from Steve’s recap either. He really doesn’t care what these folks do to each other, nor should he. It’s not his job. He just reports on what he’s told and what he hears, then lets us know. He may give an occasional opinion, but that’s never what this site has been about.

“Once a cheater, always a cheater!” Insinuates a “poor JoJo” attitude. She is taking Jordan Rodgers down and completely ignoring JoJo’s transgressions of the same type.

Don’t forget, after it came out during Ben’s season that JoJo was with someone prior to the show, people were still standing up for JoJo and ignoring what she had done. Like the gist of my original comment said, If what Steve is reporting about the two of them is true they are PERFECT for each other because they are basically the same exact person with the same exact relationship morals.

Watching this scheiB right now. Wow, very under-whelming. Looks like my FF button is going to get a workout. Does seem like less gay guys than usual, but the doucheness is off the chart.

I usually hate bachelorette, looks like that will not change this season. Bring on BIP!

The first thing I texted to my fellow watching best friend from childhood was — “lots of douche-y guys.”

I thought Jordan was especially douche-tastic with his hair and his skinny jeans.

My pick would’ve been James Taylor. Not conventionally good looking, but seemed to have an actual personality.

Call me old, but that fade haircut with a hershey’s kiss shaped mop on top that is so popular with 20 somethings these days is the equivalent to a dude (non-cowboy type) wearing pointy toe’d cowboy boots. Nothing says “hello I’m a douchebag” like that look.

I don’t doubt Jojo was playing along for the exposure. Choosing the highest profile guy plays perfectly into that. I’d say most of her drooling over Jordan was done for the cameras. She was going to pick him from night one, or whenever they had their alleged conversations beforehand. But I saw a constant bitchy & fake air about her last season, too.

Good on the exes for sharing their side of the story. Why do someone a favor by keeping silent when they’ve decided to be public?

Thanks for the numerous spoiling years. I thoroughly enjoyed your “predictions” (coz they really aren’t). I look forward for more spoilers from you. Anyway, I won’t be watching this season. Sorry #teamcaila over here. I’ll be back for BIP… so keep ’em coming!

Good to know that ABC hasn’t lost their touch on casting douchetastic guys.

I am the one who called her “poor JoJo”, due to the dirty dog she picked. I could care less about her family being affluent or her being college-educated. Who cares? Get.over it.

She picked the wrong guy, that’s it, that’s all. To be fair tho, abc didn’t give her much to choose from.
