The second half of the episode was pretty uneventful since it was just Caila’s arrival and the double date. Caila enters the show, talks to a few guys, but it’s obvious she’s interested in Jared. And he’s interested in her. But he’s kinda seeing Emily, so he wants to talk to her first. He gives her the whole “I like you, but if I don’t pursue this, I might regret it” speech, and Emily says he should do it. Even though when he leaves she’s basically grinding her teeth and reiterating what some were saying about Caila on Ben’s season, and that’s that she comes across too perfect and almost Disney Princess-ish. Not hard to see. I always felt that way on Ben’s season about her. There’s something just too over-the-top about her. I think she knows what to do in front of a camera, and people like that I’m always weary about.
The two of them go horseback riding, Jared tells her how beautiful she is, they talk about seeing if they could make this work, they make out on the beach, and that’s pretty much that. The date was insignificant in terms of what they did. All that was done was to show us that he was more interested in Caila than Emily, and pave the way for Ashley I’s return tonight to set up the drama. Did we not see Ashley crying at least 6 different times in the promo for tonight’s episode? Like, really? I know that’s her bit now and she’s absolutely hamming it up for the cameras because she knows that’s what people want from her, which makes the whole thing completely disingenuous to me. Not mention reeking of desperation. Ugh. Maybe I’ll just fast forward through her crying parts tonight. Then again if I did, there might not even be an episode to watch.
I’m not really sure what happened on the double date with Grant/Lace and Vinny/Izzy since it seemed so spliced up that I don’t even know if the girl who poured ice on them was even a legit thing. They teased it like it was gonna be this major drama in the show and, whaddya’ know, they overhyped something that completely underwhelmed. Again. We don’t even see the girls face, we don’t see them even confronting her inside or outside the venue, and by the end, Grant and Lace are making out and she’s talking about how he protected her. Uh huh. Keep thinking that. The one thing I did notice this date set up for a future episode was the Izzy/Vinny break up. So we see them making out and basically saying they’ve established they weren’t going to date anyone else that comes on the show. Well, they wouldn’t have shown us that if they know that’s exactly the opposite of what happened.
Jared comes back to talk to Emily to have THAT conversation. You know, the one where he likes someone else yet has to tell the girl he likes less than the one he really likes that he likes her less? Yeah, you can imagine how that went over. “I feel like I should explore things with Caila.” Translation: I want in Caila’s pants more than I want in yours. Cool? This leads Emily to host her own pity party about how she’s always second best, guys never pick her, and there must be something wrong with her. I found that utterly amusing since earlier in the episode when Jared basically dumped her for Caila, she told us that she’s never been the one to be broken up with. She’s always been the one to end relationships so this was new territory for her. So if that’s the case, then why is she crying about always being second best and guys don’t pick her? Seems like guys do pick her and she’s the one that doesn’t pick them.
While the other double date was going on, Sarah and Carly (who both think they’re on the outs and getting eliminated) decide to throw their own double date and invite Daniel and Evan over. There was really no point to this date other than to show Carly starting to take a liking to Evan. I think. She admits she doesn’t like him like that, yet also admits she’s attracted to weird and Evan is definitely weird. Uhhhhh, ok. The part of the date that I completely didn’t understand was Evan not being responsive when producers tried to wake him up. Like, what the hell happened? Was he just out of it and once they got him to come to he was fine? Was he faking it so he could get attention from Carly? Whatever the case, once Carly came over, Evan’s “plan” seemed to work as the most bizarre relationship on this show continued. Carly fought off laying down next to him, told him she didn’t want to kiss him, then is making out with him four seconds later. Then again, this is Carly we’re talking about. The girl that latched on to Kirk day 1 last season, got dumped on the last day, watched her best friend Jade get engaged then have a wedding televised by ABC. So OF COURSE Carly came back this season and OF COURSE Carly wasn’t leaving this show without being engaged. If one of those numerous crabs running around proposed to her, she probably would’ve justified saying yes to them. So I guess in reality, we shouldn’t be surprised by any part of Carly and Evan’s relationship.
So tonight when everything is going great with Jared and Caila, enter Ashley I. Who has revealed in her blog she purposely didn’t tell Jared she was coming on the show. Then later tonight, we’ll have Jen arriving to make out with Nick in the sand. I don’t think many people remember Jen from Ben’s season, but holy hell, she easily becomes the best looking girl on Paradise the second she shows up. And it’s really not even close. I’m guessing people will remember Jen after tonight.
