The Bachelorette Recap: Wait, There is No Love Clock?

Emily started making the rounds this week on the talk show circuit and, wow, she’s been coached well. From her conference call, to her local appearance on Charlotte TV, to “Good Morning America,” to “Live with Kelly,” to Jimmy Kimmel, this chick has the same canned answers nailed down. I don’t even know why people are bothering to ask her questions anymore. She’s programmed to say the same things in every interview. Here’s some of the repeating phrases I’ve heard, “I was happy before the show and I’m happy now,” “I learned a lot about myself in this experience,” – the list goes on. But you know what else she’s repeated a couple times? That when she saw the guys the first night, if this were her “normal life,” she probably wouldn’t have given them a chance. Yikes. A little harsh no? And she keeps reiterating that she’s glad she went through with the process because, essentially, none of these guys met her criteria based on their first impressions. Ahhhh, so in high school, he was Jeff with two “f’s,” but once he became a big boy and riding skateboards wearing jean jackets, he took off one “f.” Got it. That was Jef’s 9th grade picture from Pine View High School in St. George, Utah. Quite the looker. At least the bouffant hairstyle hadn’t emerged yet. I guess he just figured it’d look cooler in 2012 when he was CEO of a company. I see.

Few things to get to today before the “Reader Emails,” and “Dr. Reality Steve,” which are on the lighter side this week. Reminder tonight I will be back with another live video blog at 9PM EST/6PM PST talking all things “Bachelorette.” Don’t have the episode-by-episode spoilers yet, and I’m really contemplating how important they are at this point. The Bachelorette Recap Including Chris Harrison Already Lying & Did Emily Maynard Spend the Night with Three Different Guys on the Overnight Dates?

Back for the 24th season of this franchise. Sixteen “Bachelors,” and now Emily being the eighth “Bachelorette.” And this will be the 22nd season I’ve written episode recaps of the show. Holy crap. Wow. Has it been that long? That’s absolutely crazy to me. Started off as an email to three people and it’s now spawned into this – my full time job. With the new season starting up that means there will be a minimum of two columns a week, but there will definitely be weeks where I squeeze in three or four. Tuesday will be the recap column of the episode, and Thursday will be “Reader Emails” and “Dr. Reality Steve,” along with any news and notes about the show. So get your emails in this week for Thursday’s column since for the last couple months, when the traffic is lower, the emails pretty much dwindle down pretty low.

A lot of stuff to get to today, and since there will not be a video blog tonight, I figured I’d cover as much as I could for you. I’ve got some stuff to take care of tonight and am rather busy, so I apologize that you will not have a video blog for the first time in the last 13 weeks. Definitely need to start off today’s column wishing a Happy Birthday to my mother, Charlotte. You all got to meet her, albeit briefly, on a video blog a few weeks back. She is a great mom, and although she lives in California and I obviously I see her less than I used to, she has always been there for me. So Happy Birthday mom! Your card should be arriving today. And signed the same exact way every single card I’ve sent you has been signed for the last 20 years. Make sure Olivia and Nichols behave for you on your birthday, which is probably asking a lot.

There will be a live video blog tonight at 9PM EST/6PM PST, however, I don’t plan on going long because, well, tonight is the NFL draft and I’m a sports geek. Two More Contestants Confirmed, Final Four Information, and the Charlotte Airport Pictures

A lot of links and pictures to get to today, but let me first start off by talking about the charity event this past Saturday night in Dallas for the CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Center, which formally announced on Saturday they are changing their name to Family Compass. A very fun event all around, and no, I did not have a date. Decided that bringing someone I barely knew probably wasn’t a good idea, so, I went it alone. Which was fine. Also for those curious, Melissa Rycroft, who was supposed to be the honoree, was unable to attend, so I didn’t run into her. I don’t know what reason she gave, but, she did donate two tickets to the DWTS finale to the live auction that ended up going for $7,000, so I’m guessing that all but made up for her not appearing. All in all, a very fun night, and a special shout out to Meredyth Childress who had requested me to be their “celebrity” for their table. It was great meeting her … Continue reading →
