Final Thoughts on the Rozlyn Interview
I actually got a chance this weekend to listen to the whole thing. Even though I conducted the interview, sometimes you don’t get a full sense of how it went until you listen to it back. I felt I got everything out that I needed to get out, and Rozlyn answered every question as well as she could. There were a couple answers where if you read between the lines, you could pretty much see where she was getting at, but all in all, she didn’t back away from anything and really was pretty clear about what happened to her on the show. I understand that there will be people no matter what she said, that don’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She gets that. But a majority of the response that I’ve gotten on email, Twitter, and Facebook has been positive. That’s a good thing. For two months, the only thing you have seen from Rozlyn Papa regarding this show, is ABC’s side. The two episodes she was on to start the season and her appearance at the “Women Tell All”, were obviously slanted in a way to paint her as the “villain”. This was her chance to respond without being edited, spliced up, attacked, and given more than five minutes of time to explain herself.
I think one thing people seem to lose track of is exactly why Rozlyn is defending herself. A common theme from those who still doubt is, “Well, maybe she didn’t sleep with Ryan, but something definitely happened”. Ok, hold up a second. In that sentence, all you need to do is stop at “Maybe she didn’t sleep with Ryan”. If you’re gonna concede that, then Rozlyn has proven the show wrong. The woman was kicked off the show for an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. The show was not kicking her off for flirting. The show was not kicking her off for developing a friendship. And they certainly weren’t kicking her off for anything to do with her son, according to the story they showed us. They wanted all their viewers to believe she basically had a sexual, romantic affair with a producer. Period. End of story. You know it and I know it. Despite the vague language they were using at the time, we all know what they wanted everyone to believe. So when casual viewers (ones that don’t follow along on the internet, blogs, and post 500 times a day on message boards) are asked about Rozlyn, I’m guessing their response is, “Oh, she’s the one who slept with the producer.” So in that aspect, ABC accomplished their goal. That’s who she was in the context of this season.
She got embarrassed on the show by them insinuating something that didn’t happen, all subsequent media outlets reported it as such, you’ve got Perez Hilton calling her a “whore” every chance he can get, and no matter what she says, she’s guilty until proven innocent in people’s eyes. So if you’re gonna say, “Wow, maybe she didn’t sleep with the producer, but something happened”, then I say that’s where it should end. That’s all she was out to tell everyone from day one, which is, that the story you saw play out on TV is not what happened whatsoever. I don’t know how much clearer I could’ve asked her this during the first ten minutes of the interview. The exact question to Rozlyn was: “At any point – before, during, or after filming – did you ever have sex with, make out with, or have any sort of romantic physical relationship with Ryan?” That’s a leading question? Really? Seemed pretty direct to me. It covered every aspect of anything that could’ve possibly happened with Ryan. To which she responded, no, she didn’t. If you choose not to believe her, that’s your business. But the question was asked more directly than anything that ever came out of Chris Harrison’s mouth, and any tabloid talk show she’s appeared on.
Trust me, I’m well aware that people say I’m kissing Rozlyn’s ass. Just like they said I did with Wes and Megan. Comes with the territory. If I cared what the detractors said, I wouldn’t have a blog. There’s no way everyone who reads this column likes me. Impossible. And I don’t care if they do or not. I’ve always said this column isn’t for everybody. I just like giving well thought out opinions backed up by evidence rather than just spew a bunch of, “I don’t like this”, “I hate that”, “This sucks” nonsense you see on message boards. See, here’s the reason I had those three people on for interviews. The only people I’ll ever be able to interview from this show are the ones that felt they got screwed over, and wanted the real story out there. ABC will never hand me a contestant otherwise, and nor would a regular contestant (say like a Gia or Ali) ever talk to me, just because they don’t want to piss off the show. And I really wouldn’t have much to say to them since they’re not gonna give up much behind-the-scenes stuff anyway. I’ve been told on more than on occasion that ABC has told certain contestants to stay away from talking to me or risk getting in trouble.
Rozlyn did that interview last Thursday night without ABC’s permission. She did it because she’s followed the blog all season, appreciated someone who knew what really happened was willing to tell the truth, and wanted her voice heard for more than five minutes. She wanted to make sure people got to hear more than just sound bites from her. Will she get in trouble? I don’t know. Probably not, since nothing happened to Wes or Megan really. I never offered her any money to come on, and she didn’t ask for any. She didn’t have to do it, but she wanted to because she felt it was the right thing to do. So for that, I’m very much appreciative she came on. I’m willing to have anyone on from this show that wants to tell their side of things. But you gotta understand, the only ones who would even consider it, are the ones that felt the editing and manipulation completely screwed them over, hate the show, and don’t really care what ABC thinks. Those contestants are few and far between. Most of these contestants are afraid of that contract and afraid of ABC. There are a few that aren’t, and those are the ones I try to go after. Plus, I think people WANT to hear from the Wes’, Megans’, and Rozlyns’ of this show. They’re the most controversial ones. Who wants to hear from someone like Ella? Who cares what she has to say about her experience on the show? She sold out to the producers anyway by telling that bogus story. I think you get my point. Lets talk to the interesting people, not people who were just there.
Last point to make on the Rozlyn/”Women Tell All” appearance before putting this thing to bed for good. Remember when Rozlyn told Chris that cameras are going 24/7 and how come none of this was caught on tape, and Chris fired back with, “No, cameras and microphones aren’t rolling all day long, Rozlyn.” And even some of the girls backed Chris up after he spoke. Remember that? Well, I decided to go back and look at that contract I’ve had in my possession for a while now and see where in the 21-page document it said anything about being recorded 24/7 with or without your knowledge. And here it was in bold print. This is the exact paragraph ripped directly from the contract these contestants sign. Seems pretty black and white to me.
“If I am selected to be a Participant in the Series, I understand that my actions, voice, and statements during the pre-production period and on the Location during production will be filmed and recorded for the Series on and up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis, including, without limitation, by means of hidden cameras and microphones and I hereby consent to such videotaping, filming, or recording and knowingly and voluntarily waive any privacy rights I may have, regardless of whether I am aware that recording of my actions and conversations is taking place.”
So it says they have the ability to record “on and up to” 24/7 and without your knowledge, not necessarily saying they do. C’mon people. Why would they put that in the contract if they didn’t plan on using it against contestants? If you don’t believe they have cameras, even hidden ones, all around the house, and microphones everywhere recording everything you do, then you don’t know what this show is capable of. So with that said, I’ll pose the question once again: How in the world are none of Ryan and Rozlyn’s conversations and/or “physical relationship” caught on tape once by anybody? Mind blowing, really.
Now, go back to the home page and scroll down the next post, which is “Part 2”.
