The Bachelor 14 - Jake

The Bachelor Finale Recap (Part 2) – 3/1/10

Jason and Molly’s Wedding

I’m sure plenty of you are aware their wedding took place this past Saturday in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. It’ll be shown as part of a 2 hour special next Monday night. I’ve heard minor details here and there about people in attendance and other things, but all in all, it’s a wedding. Come next Monday night, you’re pretty much gonna get what you’d expect from a wedding. Well, except that weather. When the ceremony started, it wasn’t raining. But right when they started in on their vows, they got poured on for the rest of the ceremony. Sure, probably not the most ideal way to remember your wedding day, and no bride wants to get soaked after spending hours on makeup, hair, and a 45k dress, but from all accounts, Jason and Molly had fun with it, laughed it off, and it went through without a hitch. Some pictures are popping up on internet sites where you can see how windy and rainy it got. But I’m guessing the broadcast will give us a much clearer picture next week.

Some people in attendance were: DeAnna (along with her date Stephen Stagliano), Jesse Csincsak, Charlie and Sarah, Trista and Ryan, Ed and Jillian, Kiptyn, and some girls from Jason’s season that remained friends with Molly. Don’t really know what Kiptyn’s ties to Jason and Molly are, but, I’m guessing he’s probably a candidate to be on the “Bachelor Pad” so maybe they just wanted to keep his face out there. The NY Post also reported that Evangeline Lily from “Lost” was there with a date. Huh? I have no idea if this is true or not since I wasn’t there, but man oh man, I hope if that’s the case she got paid well. Other than their shows being on the same network, I have no idea what “Kate” and Jason and Molly would possibly have in common. I hope for her sake if she was there, the cameras didn’t catch her looking at her watch every ten minutes. Talk about biting the bullet for the network. Ouch. Evangeline Lily had as much business being at Jason and Molly’s wedding as I did. I guess we’ll find out Monday if it’s true.

Look, I understand that Trista and Ryan will always be this show’s go to couple since until Jason and Molly got married, they were the only successful married couple this show has produced. And it’s obvious Trista and Ryan attended the wedding because they were either paid, or everything about the trip was comped. Lets not fool ourselves into thinking they went on their own dime because Jason and Molly are close friends. Well, at least not with Trista. I think people know I have my issues with some of the things that come out of Trista’s mouth. I mean, she found her husband and they have two kids because of this show, so obviously she is going to do what they say and defend the show every chance she can get. And to a certain extent, I get it. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Or fed you, in this particular case. However, I want to point out something that really bothered me about their appearance at the wedding.

Let me take you back 10 months to after the Jason/Molly/Melissa fiasco all shook down. Trista was one of the most outspoken people against Jason and couldn’t wait to rip him to the media. Forget what she said? Oh I sure didn’t. Click on this link to read an old interview I pulled up. If that wasn’t enough for you, here were three other quotes that I found she made around the same time:

“How could you go from being engaged to someone, to kissing someone else on the couch?!” she fumed to “He doesn’t deserve to walk away scot-free.”

“What disappointed me as a mom is that he introduced both girls to Ty,” she went on. “Melissa was around, and now she’s gone. What is Ty going to think?”

“He didn’t want to fight for the relationship between he and Melissa. He gave up. If you have such strong feelings for someone, at least give it a chance before making such a big decision.”

Now, I know what you’re gonna say. “Well Steve, that’s what she thought at the time. But I’m sure she spoke with Jason since then and he explained his side and she realized she spoke out without knowing all the facts.” And you know what? I’m perfectly fine with that. I mean, if that’s not the case, then what the hell was she doing at the wedding other than collecting a paycheck? I honestly have no problem with Trista maybe spending time with Jason and Molly, seeing they’re in love, getting his full story, and changing her mind. Don’t have a problem with it at all.

But here’s what I do have a problem with: How come she can change her mind about Jason after running her mouth the way she did in those interviews, but last season while writing a blog on E! for Jillian’s season, she crucified Wes every chance she could get, and did the same thing with Rozlyn this year on Twitter? Isn’t that kind of hypocritical? She spoke to Jason at some point and changed her mind. Fine. But I know she has no interest in ever hearing Wes’ side or Rozlyn’s side and she was certainly outspoken towards both of them, if not moreso than she was about Jason. She buried them every chance she could get. Called Rozlyn a liar in her tweets. Had nothing but degrading things to say about Wes. Why the refusal to believe them without hearing them, but so forgiving on Jason? So she just picks and chooses who she will and won’t listen to? Interesting. Just thought I’d point that out to everyone. It’s her life, she can do whatever she wants. I just wanted to throw it out there and have everyone else judge her like she loves judging other people without listening to their side. Moving on.

Jake on “Dancing with the Stars”

Definitely didn’t see that one coming. I mean, good Lord. Who does Jake have naked pictures of at ABC? Steve MacPhearson? Three straight seasons now I have to watch this guy on my TV screen? Why is this network hitching their trailer to this guy so much? We’ve all seen the guy dance, so it can’t possibly be because they think he could end up going far in this thing. Saying Jake has two left feet is an insult to two left feet. I fully expect him not to last more than a week or two on this show, but still. I’m just shocked ABC is so in love with this guy. I guess the only good thing about him appearing on “DWTS” is that we can officially close the book on him showing up on Ali’s season trying to win her back. Thank god. I really don’t need any more of Jake Pavelka in my life. Please everyone, don’t vote for the guy and let Buzz Aldrin last til week 2. I hope they stick Jake with that raving bitch of a teacher, Cheryl Burke. She’ll wipe that sh**-eating grin off his face in a heartbeat.

Dammit. Just saw this morning they announced the pairings, and Jake is with Chelsea Hightower. Oh, ok. That’ll be lovely watching two munchkins dance together. But I could not care less about them as a team. I think the whole world will be watching Maxsim try to lay pipe to Erin Andrews all season long. That’s a hookup waiting to happen. No doubt the sexual energy between those two will be seeping through my television. Now, if we could just get someone to sneak a video camera through the peep hole of her dressing room, that’d be perfect. I’m sure she’d really appreciate that – again.

As for who will take Samantha Harris’ place as co-host, I’m sure you’ve all heard some of the finalists are Mel B, Melissa Rycroft, Brooke Burke, and Vanessa Manillo. Honestly, I can’t imagine Melissa is going to be the permanent co-host of this show. I understand it’s about drawing viewers and not necessarily how good you actually are on television, but ummm, Melissa is too green at this point to be on a show watched by that many people. She needs more practice than just a couple “Good Morning America” fluff pieces and pandering correspondent work on “ET”. However, the rumor I’m hearing is that they’re going to have rotating co-hosts. Makes sense. Changes things up a little bit, although it’s not necessarily the choice I would make. What if Idol changed out Seacrest’s role every week? Think that’d work? I think most people don’t like change when it comes to their favorite TV shows. I don’t know. Maybe it’ll work for this show, but if I were them, I’d pick one co-host and stick with her. I guess we’ll see once the season starts in a few weeks.

Ali as the next “Bachelorette”

Once the “Bachelorette” starts up in May, it’ll mark the 5th consecutive season where this franchise has taken one of the “losers” from the previous season and made them into the “Bachelor/ette”. Of course you have the people screaming, “We want fresh blood!” But the bottom line is, with Ali already having a built-in fan base, and a “tragic” love storyline to boot, it was a no-brainer. Just because YOU may not like Ali doesn’t mean the show is gonna suck and no one will watch. A lot of the Ali haters seem to think that way. Yes, you hate her. You don’t like her. You despise her. You think she’s a bitch. We get it. And you know what? Millions of people will watch next season anyway. So if you don’t like her, don’t watch. But to say it’s a horrible decision is ludicrous. They know exactly what they’re doing here. And it looks like at least they’re gonna change things up a bit as some of Ali’s season, if not all of it, is going to be filmed in New York.

Yes, tons of you are asking, “But if work wouldn’t let her leave to go back to Jake, how is she the next ‘Bachelorette’?” Well, for two reasons. She quit Facebook, and ABC threw gobs of money at her because they knew people would want to see her. There. Happy now? And as I’ve said before, who can blame her? Not a single one of you in her position would’ve said, “Nah, I’ll stick it out here at my desk job making 40k a year when I can make at least triple that in a two month period going on lavish dates with 25 good looking guys chasing after me”. So let’s not all jump on Ali just because she jumped at a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, since that’s exactly what it was. I don’t know a single person in her shoes who would’ve passed it up. When Ali was on the show, she was presented with the decision of either going back to work or staying with Jake and had hours to make the decision. So AT THAT TIME, leaving Jake might’ve been hard, but with little time to think about it, it was the right decision.

So she comes back from the show, realizes maybe she shouldn’t have put work ahead of love, and all the sudden sometime in January once the show begins airing, after producers start seeing what great feedback she’s getting from the audience, they realize they need to approach her about being the next “Bachelorette”. Now she’s got plenty of time to mull it over, this time there’s six figures involved, and she’s the focal point of a TV show watched by millions of people every week instead of being 1 of 25. If you honestly think she knew back in November when she got booted that this was all some sort of master plan to make her the “Bachelorette”, uhhhh, nope. No conspiracy theory this time. This all came about after the show started airing and the public reaction to her was a positive one. I mean, maybe the producers had it in their head back in November which is why they made her make the phone call to Jake, but, the idea wasn’t presented to her until after the show began airing. That I know for sure.

As I mentioned during the Rozlyn interview, no one goes on this show thinking that they are going to find their soulmate, get married, and live happily ever after for the rest of their life. They all come on with essentially the same idea: Great experience that’ll never come along again, I’ll meet new friends, get to be on TV, maybe get some fun and exciting dates, and lastly, possibly fall in love. All in that order probably. Ali is no different. I’m sure she wants to see if she can find love this time around, but I think she’s realistic enough to know that being the “Bachelorette” is more about the opportunities that will present themselves after the fact than it is about finding a husband. If she finds a husband, great. But that’s complete bonus. The opportunities that will present themselves to her after this will never have happened if she’s sitting behind a desk at Facebook. Hell, look at the opportunities Rozlyn has gotten and she was marked as the most hated woman in “Bachelor” history who supposedly slept with a producer. So I don’t fault Ali for that one bit. They all do the show knowing that money and opportunities will be thrown at them that they never would’ve had a chance at before, with finding a husband coming in a distant second.

So whether or not you agree with Ali as the next “Bachelorette” doesn’t really matter. She’s been chosen so basically – deal with it. If you don’t watch, great. Plenty of others will. Will I have fun next season at the expense of the show? Of course I will. Will I make fun of Ali and all the douchebag bachelors competing for her? No doubt. In fact, I know of two who have already been cast. One guy’s name I know, and the other one, well, let’s just say there’s a story behind him that you’ll probably find interesting. I’ll let those out a little later on. I believe the filming schedule to the “Bachelorette” will be similar to Jillian’s. I’m hearing a filming begins in late March, with the first episode premiering in May. Remember though, when Jillian’s first episode aired last May 18th, they hadn’t finished filming yet. So depending how long filming takes this time, we might be looking at the same thing. Will I have spoiler information next season as well? We’ll see. It’s possible. Time will tell.

Ok, don’t forget to return to the site tonight at 6pm EST for another live, one hour chat with to discuss everything that went down this season. Should be a lot of fun, and I’ll be taking your questions once again. I’ll also be back tomorrow with another column that will have some closing thoughts on everything that went down, plus tell everyone what the site will be up to in the future regarding columns over the next two months until the “Bachelorette” starts. Any questions, comments, emails, praises, criticisms, email me at If you want to join me on Twitter, my address is See you back here tonight and then tomorrow for a new column…

Steve–re Trista the hypocrite, you forgot to mention how badly she and Ryan were made to look on their wedding special by the same producers and how angry they were at the time, which they talked about on Larry King. Why does she have a problem believing they could do the same thing to Rozlyn? She knows how sleazy the show is. Also, why does she defend misogynist Chris Harrison–he actually blames Rozlyn for the producer’s alleged bad behavior??

Do you have any inside info on why Chris has gone after Rozlyn so personally? The rumor is that there was bad blood between the producer and Chris over Chris’ flirting with the producer’s wife, and his constant talking about it was really a way to get back at the producer. Unfortunately, Rozlyn was just an easy way to do it. Also, the rumor is that the producer was never really fired or even suspended and it was all a ruse to create ratings and get rid of Rozlyn at the same time since she was causing them “problems.”

About Trista…I think she is their paid shill! Honestly, notice ABC made amends with Jason and so now Trista did….ABC hates Rozlyn and Wes, therefore, rather than them ripping these people apart outside the show, Trista is glad to help out. That should have been an easy one for you Steve!

    I never doubted ya!

Jake is not thinking with the correct head! Vienna was one of the ugliest women there, but she made it clear that she’s easy. I think they’ll try to make the most of their 15 minutes of fame, screw like rabbits for a while, and then it will be over.

I think even though people say that they won’t watch Ali, they probably will. They know her and will be curious as to what she does. Many people said that they wouldn’t watch Jake and yet the ratings show otherwise. It makes perfect sense for her to go back…she’s the star of the show and she controls the outcome.

Thanks again for another season of great recaps!

Looking forward to your blog about Ali! Thanks for your honesty and for the doubters….take that!

I think Vienna’s childish ways will get old soon…unless Jakey continues to be the twit we have witnessed. Wonder when he discovers those breasts are fake…or he hasn’t already!

He will definitely spoil Dancing for me! I’ll be rooting that he leaves quickly. That smarmy smirk of his makes my skin crawl.

And yes Vienna definitely looks good in mud…best she ever looked. Or Swamp Thing as a comment was stated earlier! Love it.

Great blog to recap the ATFR Steve.

It’s crap how Rozlyn’s being portrayed and unfortunate that only a small percentage of the population will give her the benefit of the doubt.

When someone as beautiful as Rozlyn falls, many people are eager to cast their stone. It has to do with their own insecurities more so than it has to do with the character of Rozlyn.

I’m sure she is probably used to dealing with that form of treatment for the majority of her life. It’s unfortunate, but human nature for ppl to not want someone [who is clearly very hot] to do well at anything. The first chance they get – they’ll take that person down. It’s so junior high.

I think Rozlyn is the kind of woman whom women love to hate. The ol’ “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful” effect. Be strong enough to admit it. You know what I’m talking about – we’re almost all guilty of it! (She has thick ankles) Bit**es. We’re all jealous of the more beautiful. Men are jealous of the more macho, well-to-do.

It’s wrong. But it’s hard to avoid.

I think if Rozlyn were a guy, she’d be a Donald Trump-type personality and noone would question her tactics. She’s savy – but she’s a woman – therefore she gets the monicker of being a bitc*.

We shant judge lest we be judged… something to that effect hey?

It’s only a matter of time before Rozlyn puts this fiasco behind her or just decides to use it to her benefit. I say: YOU GO GIRL. Just giv’er.

As for Ali: I like her. She’s sunny and real and I like that she can cry – a lot. ha ha … it’s entertaining folks! I think she’ll make for a captifying Bachelorette. But it doesn’t matter who the main B is … what matters is … what will we get to look at for eye candy?!

Steve, do you think you could somehow get on the show as one of the Bachelors just for kicks?!

    Steve for bachelor contestant!
    Let’s start a facebook page!

relax Steve – I’m just kidding

    Well Steve…hypocrite much?
You were the one that drummed up all the Jason and Molly hate, with your slanted and misinformed view of the situation. So Jason was seeing Molly on alternate weekends – No he wasn’t. Melissa was completely blindsided – No she wasn’t. .. etc What happened to your sources then ? So before you start criticisng others look at yourself.

ABC loves Jake b/c he’s eye candy for their female viewers. Hell.. I didn’t watch all other “Bachelor” show until this season when I found out how cute he was and watched it every week and eventually found out about you and started to read your blog religiously. Same thing with The Bachelorette and DWTS. Didn’t watch it weekly until now. I want to see where Ali ends up and Jake on DWTS. So ABC is smart to keep the guy around. Hey.. win-win for all. Jake is cheap for ABC to use to get viewers and ratings. Jake the Media Whore getting his face time on TV and making money from DWTS.

OH, and Vienna. Her hair is WORSE on ATFR than on the show! WTF is that cut at the back? Looks like a dog chewed on it! Skank from the Swamp!

Last night Ali said she likes “funny”. Any chance since Bob Guiney is free now that he could be tapped as one of the 25?

PS The only reason I continued watching the show was because of you. You are the best and so “funny”. Ali would love you! 🙂

Steve, what a great season! Congrats on all your hard work. I have anticipated and loved each entry of your blog!

Couple of things: Did anyone notice when Jake and Vienna left her room that he was checking his bone? It was pretty obvious with those linen pants. I had to rewind three times to make sure, and I laughed my head off.

Second, how about when he and Vienna shrugged off the tabloids as being completely fake. They have photos of Vienna’s past. No such luck on the allegations behind Rozlyn, yet Jake believes that 100%. What a tool. He and Vienna are a perfect match!

Yeah Jake is the type of guy who brown noses the boss, brings him wine, discreetly points out other colleagues flaws and backstabs them, and when becomes your boss is a total asshole toward his employees. Yup, I’ve known a couple of Jakes in my lifetime.. lol

About Jake on DWTS … being paired with Chelsie means that he has a lot better chance of getting farther on that show than you (or I) would want him to. If the past is any indication, Chelsie has the ability to bring the best out of people who are not good dancers at the beginning (Ty Murray and Louie the snowboarder dude).

Also, I managed to watch NONE of Jake’s season, except the last hour of the finale and also the ATFR show. Reading the recaps on this blog and also some of the other ones out there, I knew exactly what was happening. Jake does not appeal to me, or I would have watched more. I will probably watch DWTS, since I usually do. I hope that I’m wrong about Chelsie’s ability to develop bad dancers into fairly decent ones.

Great job Steve. I enjoyed your blog immensely this season. I’m debating whether I should follow it again for Bachelorette as part of me wants to be surprised, however I think its going to be leaked not just here but all over the place. I figure I’d have to live under a rock to avoid it. So, I’ll be here! Glad you addressed the Ali having planned the whole thing to get her own season, because I was wondering about that myself. I just hope that girl tones down the whining moaning/groaning routine, oh yeah, and the falling on the floor bit.

Evangeline Lily and Jason were booked the same night on Jimmy Kimmel’s show the night of ATFR 1 when he traded in Melissa for Molly. She was out first and when Kimmel referred to Jason, she said she didn’t want to share the same stage with him. I think she might have called him an a**hole. I don’t remember her exact words. When Jason came out for his interview he was already super defensive because of her comments. Interesting that she was invited.
