American Idol Recap – 4/27/10 & An Update on the “Bachelorette” Spoilers

If you came here today to read the “Idol” recap second, but hoping there were “Bachelorette” spoilers first, sorry. But I do have information regarding it. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that a couple days ago I mentioned more information is coming in daily. It has, it’s been more than I expected, but we’re still a month away from the season starting. In addition, they’re still filming right now so I just decided I don’t want to release information in pieces. I gave you what the scandal was last week to wet your appetite. Lets just say that I know more about this season right now than in any previous season at this point. I can pretty much say I know EVERYTHING that’s happened up to this point in filming – that’s how quickly the news has come to me. I’m just not gonna release it all until I have the order of elimination of the final 4/3/2/1 and any stories that might go along with it. Not trying to tease you here, I just need to make 100% sure I’ve got it all.

Once the season wraps up filming in a week or so, I’m sure I’ll get the final details. When I have all that, I’m going to release all the details about this season you’ll need to know. Who got what date and where, what roses are given out when, how the order of eliminations went, who’s involved in the scandal, what person from last season makes an appearance, etc. All of it. If you thought I had a lot of info last season, this year doesn’t even hold a candle. At the beginning of last season, I told you the final 4/3/2/1 and the Rozlyn scandal. This season? From first episode to the final episode, you’ll have the whole season mapped out for you. Just makes no sense to release it in pieces. I’d rather do it all at once so every spoiler is in the same column, and I can keep referring people to that column when inevitably I’ll be asked, “Hey, where are all your spoilers?”

In case you missed ABC’s first promo that ran during “DWTS” on Monday, here it is. I’m sure someone will post a better video soon, but this is all that’s on YouTube right now:

Wanna know which guy she’s kissing? Who’s the guy doing the backflip off the top of the limo? Who’s the guy on his knees at the meet and greet? I’ll be telling you all of that when I finally post everything together in one column. In case you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m going to be releasing all this info before the first episode airs. I don’t need to see the first episode and previews for the season to fill in the blanks and tell you what happens. I’ve already been told a majority of everything that’s happened, including how the meet and greet went. I know who gets the first impression rose, the craziness that ensued on the first night, and I know how many she eliminates at the meet and greet. I understand some of you are frustrated I’m not telling you this right now, but just be patient. You have to believe me when I say that I HAVE to release it all in one column to make it so much easier for people to go back and find it. And I will do that once they’re done filming, but before the first episode airs. So I’m guessing sometime in Mid-May. So just to be clear: Before the first episode airs this season, you will know everything you need to know about Ali’s season. On to “Idol’s” performances from last night.

Lee DeWyze, “You’re Still the One”: Did I miss something? When did Lee start singing out the side of his mouth? Has he always done this and I wasn’t paying attention, or was that something new last night? For whatever reason, I REALLY noticed it last night. Another solid performance. Actually made a girly song sound more contemporary and hip. I never thought going in to last night’s show that I was gonna like it because you had four guys remaining who all had to sing chick songs, but it was way better than I expected. Lee also sang in a lower register (hey, I’m using technical singing terms now) which I don’t remember him doing much this season either. Even though I think he should win, you never know with the crazy ass voters on this show, but regardless, he’s going to get a record deal out of this and I think be pretty successful.

Michael Lynche, “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing”: Can’t say I’ve ever heard of this song because, well, I’m not gay. But hey, he sure sang it well. I was impressed that the guys were belting out chick songs and doing rather well. I actually enjoyed Michael’s performance. Didn’t think it was overly dramatic and ridiculous, and it seems like when he makes his album, every song should be like this. He’s never really done well with the up tempo stuff. He’s at his best when he’s singing ballads to women making them take their panties off. So he should probably stick to being the black Tom Jones. If Ruben can put out four albums of slow, soft, love making songs, so can Michael.

Casey James, “Don’t”: For weeks this guy has been giving us a bunch of hokey, Huey Lewis sounding crap. Now, FINALLY, Casey actually gave a performance that I liked. Really liked. My favorite of the night and easily his best since the competition started. See Casey? You don’t have to get up there and dilly dally around with your guitar for half the time to impress us. Actually showed he has a good singing voice and is more than just a guy who gigs in country bars and looks girly. I’m surprised Kara didn’t run up on stage and try to make babies with him after that. At least she’s toned down her unabashed bias towards him since the beginning of the season. I wonder if Casey has all her nudie pics from that photo shoot she did up in his hotel room. I sure would.

Crystal Bowersox, “No One Needs to Know”: Eh. So-so. She’s done better. On a night where the guys killed it, she did ok, but nothing anyone will be talking about today. Doesn’t mean she’s going home, but I think this is probably her most vulnerable week. For probably the first time since the season started, she was in the bottom half in terms of best performances of the night. However, she probably stays out of the bottom three this week just based on her popularity. The song was just a little too folksy for me. Her talking back to the judges probably wasn’t necessary either. She didn’t need to tell us, “It was as a big as some of the other performances.” Yes, we know. The last thing you want to do is sound bossy up on stage Crystal. I’d just keep your mouth shut and not worry about it. Smile, nod your head, and let your fans vote. I don’t know why any contestants saying anything up there. It can only hurt them.

Aaron Kelly, “You Got a Way”: I was shocked the judges slobbered all over this performance. Was it good? Yeah, I mean I guess it was. Parts of it were. He hit some really good parts in the song. However from beginning to end, there were 3 or 4 performances better last night. I think it’s because of his age, but he hit some really crappy notes during that performance last night. However, people tend to forget those if you mask it with some good ones. So all those on the Aaron Kelly bandwagon, actually go back and listen to that performance and you’ll hear what I’m talking about. I had to watch it twice to make sure the judges weren’t sniffing glue last night, and they were. It wasn’t nearly as good as they thought. Just as many crappy notes as good ones. With that said, he isn’t going home tonight unfortunately.

Siobhan Magnus, “Any Man of Mine”: What the hell was she wearing? Does she dress herself in the dark? I’ve always had respect for Shania Twain as an artist. Mostly because she’s hot. But after hearing her tell Siobhan when she met her, “You always look so beautiful”, I’m beginning to question her sanity. Since Siobhan has had a few lame weeks in a row, it looks to me like she felt she needed to fall back on her old standby, which is screaming at the end of the song. Maybe the audience will like it, maybe not, but it was obvious what she was doing. She’s the only person in the competition that seemingly can hold a note that high for that long, so I guess she feels if she does that, she’s showing some range or something. I don’t know. Kinda bugs me, but I’m sure her fans will eat it up.

With only six people left, no point in doing a Top and Bottom 3. I’ll say that Casey had best performance last night, and Crystal’s kinda bored me. Despite that, I thought all six did well and tonight’s elimination is anyone’s guess. I have no idea who’s going home tonight. If you’re asking me at gunpoint, unfortunately I’d have to go with Michael. I’m hoping it’s Siobhan or Aaron, but something tells me that’s not happening tonight. And Casey, Lee, and Crystal aren’t going anywhere, which leaves Michael. The fact that he’s already gotten the least amount of votes once means it can certainly happen again. Especially on a night where everyone did rather well.

Back Friday with “Reality Roundup” to cover Jake’s elimination on “DWTS” (thankfully), “Survivor”, “Celebrity Apprentice”, and some early thoughts on “Fresh Meat 2”. I watched “Meet the Meat” to see who all the new people are. But episode 1 isn’t currently available on Hulu or MTV’s website. If someone can find it, please send it to me. If not, I guess I’ll have to just watch the highlights of the first episode and start watching the others I have saved. Any questions, comments, emails, praises, criticisms, email me at Follow me on Twitter at: See you Friday…

I have noticed all season how Lee sings out the side of his mouth. Kinda distracting and it was especially obvious last night. So, no. It isn’t just you.
