Reaction to the Brad/Laurel Story & More “Reader Emails”

I’m ignoring the risk of ending up in the stupid e-mailers list, here goes nothing:

Regarding this comment about who isn’t right for Brad (from Ashely on the People website) – Do you think producers suggested/convinced her to say that or are some of the contestants coming off the show still in the dark on the rumor mill?

Who isn’t right?
Ashley:“Chantal. Brad says he wants a best friend and someone to make him feel better at the end of the day, but they had more of a sexual connection.”

Comment: I love how people are emailing me now “scared” to be put in Friday’s “Reader Emails”. I think it’s obvious when you read Friday’s column which questions are stupid and which are truly ones people don’t know the answer to. It’s ok. Ask away on any questions you’d like. I’ll be the judge, jury, and executioner of if it’s stupid or not. Or if I’ve already answered it 500 times.

As for producers coaxing Ashley to say that, my answer would be no, and here’s why: Because in Jackie’s exit interview yesterday, she said this in response to the question, “Is there a woman in the house that you think is right for Brad?”

“I’d have to say Chantal O’Brien. I think that her, she really let her emotions out right from the beginning. I could personally tell by my time spent with her, even in the house, that she was really forming a very strong bond with him. And she was really opening up her heart to him.

Externally, she can definitely put up a kind of hard exterior, but inside, she’s very much a very deep and, I think, loving person and also very vulnerable and looking for love.

I think that Brad in the same respect, really felt a strong connection with Chantal. I think he appreciated the fact that she was so open with him, and really let her emotions just go, and he could get to know her better.”

So Jackie’s answer couldn’t have been more opposite of Ashley’s answer last week. If they were coaxing people in what to say in their answers to keep people off the beaten path of who final girl is, then they certainly wouldn’t have let Jackie give THAT answer.

I am trying to find the ‘bottom line’ on your site and can’t seem to. Like you had before, Episode 1 Bimbo X and Bimbo Y get the boot and so on. Is it there and I just can’t find it? Or have you not revealed all the details yet.

Comment: Yes, it’s there. In the same spot it’s been for the last two months. You know, the spot that says “The Bachelor 10: Andy”. All your answers to Brad’s season will be right there in that link. I figured I’d make people work for it by including in my writeups about a season that ended four years ago. Makes it more fun.

Reality Steve,

At some point in your recaps of Bachelor Brad’s spoilers, you mention that you know who the next Bachelorette is. When can you tell us that? Also, do you have more information in why he didn’t chose emily? I really want her to be the Bachelorette.

Comment: I don’t ever remember saying I know who the next “Bachelorette” is. You know why? Because they haven’t announced it yet. I know who they want it to be, and who has wanted to be it from the moment she applied for this show, and that’s Emily. If she doesn’t back out, it will be her show. Talk all you want about how you can’t see her making out with a bunch of guys, or she seems so quiet and reserved. None of that matters. What have people been saying about Brad this season? He’s boring, he’s uninteresting, we don’t care about him, blah blah blah. Then Tuesday’s press release for the overnight ratings comes out and you see this:

“The Bachelor” (8:00-10:00 p.m.)
Opposite stiff competition from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Bachelor” grew its overall audience for the 4th straight week, hitting a new season high among Total Viewers (9.7 million).

“The Bachelor” ranked No. 1 in its time period among Adults 18-34 (2.8/8) and across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54), standing as Monday’s No. 1 regular TV series with Women 18-34 for the 6th straight week.

So as I’ve said time and time again, this show is NEVER made because of who the lead is. It’s made by the 25/30 contestants they cast, because ultimately, it’s a soap opera. And as long as they get good drama, people will tune in no matter who’s there. If Brad was so awful and so boring, why have ratings increased the last four weeks? Why is it killing every other show on Monday night in the women demographics? Because women eat this sh** up, that’s why. Just because you don’t like him, or say you think the season sucks, there’s 9.7 million other people who don’t, and it’s like this EVERY SINGLE SEASON. That’s why this show ain’t going anywhere, and neither am I.

I am a loyal reader and have been for years and yes, I hate the “I know something you don’t know” stuff, but whatever…I still like the content of the blog. I think if Steve is not going to get into what he says he knows, he shouldn’t mention it at all. It’s annoying and seems like he is trying to prove something. But it is his blog, he can do what ht wants.

I came across this written by you in the Bachelor Brad #11 archives (go figure lol):

And in Brad’s case, I have no doubt he’s dated some amazing women. He seems like one that would stay in touch with his ex’s. Maybe even call her on occasion. Even when he’s filming the show. You know, just to tell her he’s bored or something and wants her back. Hey, just a guess

Anytime someone sells someone to the press, no matter what their “reason” is, I can’t help but be skeptical. To me, it seems like she not only wanted some cash, but also wanted to be known. Sooo, she sold him out. I can understand doing that when someone else has slandered your name and you want to set the record straight but no one knew about her, which is exactly why she sold the story. Now scores of people know of her AND she has some extra cash. Sounds win/win for her. Here’s the thing with Brad and every man/woman who has been approached to do the show…they aren’t sitting around innocently polishing their halos when all of the sudden an ABC producer pops out of no where and offers them a contract to do the show. They then don’t jump up and down at their sheer luck of opportunity in finding love without a care about the contract/money. IT’S A SHOW. Of course these things are discussed and of course they care about them. They aren’t thanking their lucky stars for just a chance at finding love. They are thanking their lucky stars at a chance at finding love PLUS great publicity, PLUS money, PLUS maybe becoming semi-famous. If any of them say all they cared about was finding love, then that’s a load of bull. So when Brad was contacted about the show, its only natural he’d mention the money part to someone he had been close to. And if he and Laurel were off and on, maybe this was the added push they needed to either be together or not. He says he’s a changed man, not a saintly knight. He never said he was perfect or that he happened to be polishing his brand new halo when the show’s producer’s fell out of the sky and wouldn’t he be like ANYONE ELSE if he had a bit of baggage with him at the time? So he had an on and off connection with someone at the time the show’s producers contacted him. I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t the case for most of the Bachelor/Bachelorettes, at least to some extent. The difference between Brad and Laurel is this, Brad is making more money being the star of this season’s Bachelor than Laurel did selling him out, but HE never sold HER out and since no one is perfect, I’m sure she wouldn’t appreciate him showing some of HER texts. There are two sides to every story.

I think Laurel is getting a bad wrap for spilling her story for money! HELL I’d sell my Ex out for free if he dumped me for a reality tv wife with big ta ta’s! Cut her some slack!! Her biggest mistake was not seeing through Fake Jake’s promises of marriage to her!!!

You can’t control the crappy things others do to you, but you CAN control your own behavior. You can be classy or you can be vengeful. Does she feel avenged? Probably not. What she probably feels is a little richer. But hey, if being a vengeful person is what someone wants to be, then so be it. But a bad wrap may be the consequence.
