Not many reader emails to get to at all, but since we haven’t done any in a couple weeks, I figured I’d throw a few in here to hold you over. Once the season starts on May 23rd, we’ll be back to having a full email bag every week. Working on some things for the site now that I think you’ll like. Hopefully will be announcing those soon. So here’s the latest batch of emails:
Greetings from Poland! I took a job here after college and have now taken to the internet to rely on my Bachelor(ette) fix. My friends and coworkers here are utterly shocked that this stuff is shown on public TV (and not after midnight either), especially with the drunkenness and promiscuity in almost every episode…that hasn’t stopped me from getting a loyal watch party going on Tuesdays, once the episodes are available online.
Just wanted to tell you how truly entertaining your blog is! It makes me laugh during my lunch breaks and makes viewing the show that much more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!
Comment: Poland? The countries just keep on coming. Crazy. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised considering I’ve got people in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan sending me emails and pictures as well while filming is happening.
First, let me say I’m a long time fan of your site. It’s what keeps me going through the day! Keep up the great work and me and all of my co-workers live for your updates.
I have 2 questions, i’d love to hear your thoughts on:
1) Do you think Matt has it in him to make another run through Redemption Island? I don’t think he will given that the people he’ll be facing will only get more difficult.
2) Do you think X Factor will be a big hit in the U.S? If so, do you think it’ll be able to supplant Idol?
I’d love to hear back from you, and thanks again for running such an addictive site!!!!!
Comment: 1) Haven’t really talked much “Survivor” this season but I will get into it more next week. As for Matt, I’m guessing he’ll keep winning. And if he gets to the finals, he’d be a shoe-in for people to vote for. Whether or not that happens though is a different story. Assuming Rob doesn’t get blindsided anywhere in the game, there’s no way he’d let Matt make the finals. I guess Matt could go on an Immunity run like we’ve seen in the past, and Rob wouldn’t have a choice then, but the first chance Rob has to get him out of the game, he will.
2) Yes and yes. “X Factor” will blow away Idol and render it pretty meaningless. I mean, just the $5 million prize to the winner alone makes Idol irrelevant. As crazy as it is to say, winning $1 million on a reality show just isn’t what it used to be. “Survivor” has done it for over 20 seasons now and no one bats an eye. But when there’s $5 million at stake PLUS a recording contract, coupled with Simon’s return to television, and a completely new concept they’re bringing to it, not to mention the sheer curiosity factor that most people will have, it’ll be a hit. So once it runs from September thru November, people will be in overkill mode with that type of reality show that I just think once January rolls around and Idol starts back up, sure they’ll still get an audience, but I think a lot of people will be like, “Didn’t we just see a bigger, better singing competition show?” And they’ll be much more casual about watching. Not saying Idol will lose half their audience, but I fully expect “X Factors” to beat Idols numbers pretty badly.
I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now, but have never written in. Just so you know, your site gets a lot of hits from me since I check it every day for new posts! You are hilarious, so keep up the great work.
I just have a few questions. I know several posts ago when you were talking about Ali, you had mentioned she tried out for other reality shows before getting cast on the bachelor. My question is how do you know that and which other ones did she try out for?
Also, I know Melissa was on that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader reality show, but do you know of any other contestants who have tried out for other reality shows and/or were cast on other reality shows before the Bachelor/ette? It seems to me that ABC wouldn’t want to cast people who had been on other shows, as it kind of hurts their credibility of “really wanting to help the person find true love”. Just curious.
Comment: I was told Ali was a finalist on one of the “Real World” seasons, but I can’t remember which one it was.
ABC will cast whoever they think will bring them good television, regardless of if they have previous TV experience. Hurts their credibility? Ha ha. Sweetie, this show hurt its credibility loooooooooong ago. At this point, they just embrace it. If you honestly think that they cast 25 people every season because they think all 25 of them are there for the right reasons and are looking for a future spouse, you are sorely mistaken. They’re casting for a television show. Most of these people don’t care about finding a spouse. They want to be on TV, travel, meet new friends, and try and promote themselves. Finding a soulmate is about 100th on their list.
I was just wondering if you think they’d ever do another Bachelor winner as the Bachelorette like Jen was? Why havent they before? Is it because of Jen and Andrew being broken up already at ATFR? If thats the case, why wasnt Melissa asked when her and Jason were broken up at ATFR?
Comment: It’s possible. The lead is probably always going to be someone from a previous season, so would they do a former winner? Sure. If they do it, it would be for the “Bachelorette” and not the “Bachelor”. They have a bigger pool to choose from since there have been twice as many “Bachelor” seasons as “Bachelorette”.
Don’t know what you meant by Jen and Andrew being broken up at the ATFR. They dated for 9 months and she moved in with him before they broke up.
Melissa was asked to be the “Bachelorette” once Jason made the switch to Molly, but she wanted no part of it. So then they went to Jillian.
