The Bachelorette 7 - Ashley

The Bachelorette Recap – 6/6/11 Including “Bachelor Pad” Cast Info & Where I Stand On All Things Bentley

For all your episode-by-episode spoilers of Ashleys season, either click on the “Bachelorette Ashley Spoilers” link at the top of the page, or click here. Do not read if you don’t want to know who Ashley is with. You’ve been warned.

Lets get started with some “Bachelor Pad” news. Filming starts today but a few changes in casting over the weekend that I’ll update you on. Obviously I still don’t have the full cast list, but I should have that within the next week or so. As long as I can get it out before ABC officially does that’s fine with me. Last season they announced it on a Wednesday, 8 days after filming started. So going by the same schedule, it’ll be announced a week from tomorrow. Here’s the latest I can update you on:

-Rozlyn is not on the show. So when Seacrest reported a month ago she was, he had no idea. Yeah, they wanted her obviously, but she had never committed to it at the time and ultimately decided against it.

-Tanner pulled out at the last minute. Talked to him over the weekend and he just decided against doing it and never got on the plane.

-Ashleigh Hunt is not on it. Neither is Kathryn Sherlock.

-Holly and Michael are definitely in. Don’t even ask about their relationship because I have no idea what’s going on between those two. They were engaged, then Holly broke it off in Oct or November, then they were back together right around Xmas time, and then they broke up again two months ago. And from what I know, that break up was final. They didn’t even speak to each other after that. However this past Friday, they were at gift suite together in Hollywood with DeAnna, so your guess is as good as mine what their deal is.

-About half the people I put on the list last week shut their Facebook accounts off over the weekend, so they are definitely in. Those are: Alli, Jackie, Melissa, and Michelle from Brad’s season, Kirk, and Rated R Rego. Others who I’m pretty sure are on the show and didn’t shut their FB off are Kasey, Vienna, Holly, Michael, Erica Rose, and Graham.

-I was told Jake was gonna be on the show, but now I’m not so sure. He’s had FB activity all weekend, and even yesterday, so that’s not a good sign unless they’re letting him use his computer while being sequestered.

-And the one question/comment I got most this week? “I bet Bentley is doing Bachelor Pad.” Uhhh, no. That’s not happening. Bentley is not on Bachelor Pad.

Was I watching a different show than everybody else last night? I’m sorry, but the way Chris Harrison hyped last night’s episode all last week in interviews and on his Twitter, and how Mike Fleiss was tweeting about it, you’d think that Bentley’s exit was gonna be the most horrific things we’ve ever seen on television. Sure it was bad, but honestly, last nights episode wasn’t nearly as bad as they made it out to be. From the William roast to Bentley leaving, I don’t know. I guess I was expecting more. I mean, a month ago Mike Fleiss was calling Bentley the biggest douchebag in the history of this show on his Twitter account, so once again, they knew all along exactly how this show would play out the first three episodes, what the reaction would be, and knew what Bentley was saying, yet, they say it’s not their position to step in and tell Ashley about him. Chris can say all he wants about how production “warned” Ashley about Bentley and kept telling her be careful, but I’m sorry. There’s a difference between saying, “Hey, you sure you’re right about this guy?” and “Why are you giving him the benefit of the doubt” and “He might be playing you”, and them actually physically sitting her down and showing her what he was saying behind her back. You can’t convince me otherwise. The reason they didn’t show her is because they know she would’ve eliminated him the first night and they don’t have their drama for three episodes.

As for the Bentley reaction, I’m over it. Everyone else should try too. Did he say some really stupid sh**? Absolutely. Is he a jerk for acting one way in front of her then doing a 180 behind her back? Without a doubt. But for Christ sakes, it’s a television show. What you’re seeing I can guarantee you is not the full story. So how can you get so worked up over the guy when you know you’re not seeing the full picture? Read Twitter, read Facebook, read comments under Chris’ blog, and it’s mind boggling how a guy on a TV show can bring people to such anger and hate. Really? I’m not joking when I say I saw online somewhere last night that some anonymous commenter (real shocker there that they went anonymous), wrote “I hope someone rapes your daughter someday”. Are you f***ing kidding me? Whoever wrote that is sick in the head. I will never understand people that get so attached to people they see on this show when they don’t know a single thing about them and are only going off three edited episodes of the guy. I’m not saying Bentley is a saint, cuz he’s not, but you’re a complete loser if you write garbage like that. I really hope people like that don’t ever reproduce. Bentley left a reality TV show after three episodes and was insincere about it. I really don’t think it’s as big of a deal that most people are making it out to be. The show made it worse than it was.

I can sit here and break down every single thing Bentley said, and tell you how easily things can be manipulated, spliced, edited, etc. But there’s no point. It would take forever, I don’t have the time, and it’d be an effort in futility. Most of you don’t want to hear it anyway, you’d just rather assume they can’t possibly have edited that in a way to where he didn’t say it. Oh, he did say it. But not nearly in the context or to the degree the show made it seem. Hell, plenty of those comments last night were voice overs where you didn’t see his face. I immediately dismissed all of those. I’m sorry, but I just don’t buy anything this show sells me. If you want to, by all means, you have every right to and that’s your choice. I’m just gonna remain skeptical about this whole thing. There’s a lot more than meets the eye. But just like the Wes, Rozlyn, and Rego interviews I’ve done, where they specifically tell you details of how the show can manipulate every single possible word that comes out of your mouth, I’ve learned my lesson than people will still believe what they see on television. So rather than sit here and try to convince you otherwise, I’ll just let it be. You think what you want, and I’ll think what I want. Bentley said some really dumb sh** on that show and gave them material to work with, but, I’m over it and moving on. She doesn’t pick him, they’re not together now, Ashley is happy, so why focus on it, you know?

I understand for the next week or so (then in 3 weeks when he makes his return), that Bentley will be the talk of this show in blogs, talk shows, entertainment sites, etc. But so was Rozlyn, so was Wes, so was Rego, etc. In two months, no one’s gonna care about anything Bentley did because you’ll all be so happy for Ashley that she’s engaged and in love. It happens EVERY season. Conflict, drama, confrontation in the beginning of the season, gets you talking about the show, then by the end, you don’t even care or remember because that person has moved on. Bentley will be yesterdays news in two months when we see Ashley at the final rose ceremony, and then immediately a week later we’re already in to “Bachelor Pad”. So why spend so much time talking about everything when in a month you won’t care about it anyway? It’s part of the show, yet, there’s still eight more episodes to go. We’re barely a ¼ through the season. It’s a story arc that the show does EVERY SINGLE SEASON. This is no different. I am officially Bentley’d out. Stick a fork in me. I’m done. No point talking about him anymore until he shows up again. Nothing I do or say will convince anyone on their feelings for him, so I’m not gonna try. I know what this show is capable of, and I don’t believe a single thing they sold me last night. Sorry. Not buying it. Call me stupid. On to last night…

-Host Chris comes in to give his morning wake up call to the guys, and surprisingly enough, they’re not screaming nor giddy with excitement. Chris reminds them that at the last rose ceremony, Ashley said that she sees her husband here. I’m sure this gave the Mask a giant hard on since, well, he’s gotta know she was talking about him. Or not. So what did Chris tell the boys? The exact same thing as last week. Hell, for all I know, they just ran the footage of last weeks intro and I didn’t even notice. “Guys, there will be a group date, and two 1-on-1 dates. Here’s your first date card. I’m outta here for the rest of the week to do nothing until they call me for the rose ceremony. I know, tough job huh?” And as you were informed two months ago, Ben C. has the first 1-on-1 date and it has to do with dancing. Cuz, you know, Ashley likes to dance. And so does Ben! Wow! Imagine how coincidental that is! I was so disappointed Ben didn’t bust out the sprinkler and the roll the dice moves because those are so fresh and current.

-So Ashley takes Ben to a dance studio first to teach him some moves, but little does he know, it will be part of a major Flash Mob Date production, that’s all the local craze now. I guess. Honestly, before I received the info about this date with Ben, I had no idea these kind of dance productions were such a big deal. Then I googled Flash Mob and everyones doing it. Good for them. Waste of time if you ask me, but whatever. Great. So a bunch of people break out into dance in an open area. I’m supposed to be entertained by this? On what level? Hey, I like dancing as much as the next guy, but if I’m actually going to watch it, I’d rather watch professionals. Not a bunch of local yahoos that are doing it for fun. The dance Ashley taught Ben was about as difficult as the routines the cheerleaders did at my basketball games in 8th grade. And just as corny. I half expected Ash to break out into, “Yell Green Green! (Crowd repeats) Yell White White! (Crowd repeats) Green! (Crowd repeats) White! (Crowd repeats) All together lets fight!” Yeah, that really fired us up. We were gonna blow out St. Bonaventure anyway. We don’t need your help ladies. Yes, I went to a catholic school growing up. Surprised?

-They have their date at an outside mall in Glendale, CA called The Americana at Brand. If you missed when I first reported, it’s exactly where Howie Mandel’s “Mobbed” show did a Flash Mob wedding, filmed months before this date was filmed. So obviously producers share info and that’s exactly where they got the idea for this date. Very unoriginal. Ben is still clueless that a bunch of other people will eventually join in and dance as awkwardly as him. He just thinks he and Ashley are having a picnic in the middle of a crowded mall. Of course, she asks him “Lets dance.” And Ben, turning into a giant vagina before our eyes, is hesitant at first since it makes no sense whatsoever to just practice your dance moves in the middle of an outdoor mall, but finally gives Ashley his nuts…uhhhh…succumbs. “Yeah, ok. I’ll do it for you.” They start dancing, a bunch of other strangers join in, and it’s like freaking Solid Gold all the sudden. Except without the bellbottoms and giant afros. But Ben is loving this. “Seeing Ashley in her element, she is totally the type of girl I could spend the rest of my life with.” Because of a Flash Mob dance date? Really? You realize you will never do this date again, right? What a shock. Some guy is smitten with Ashley after one date. That never happens on this show.

-Ben is still gushing. “This is the most ridiculous first date I’ve ever been on.” Exactly. Cuz you’re on a TV show and that’s how this thing works. They put you on dates that you’ll never go on again the rest of your life. Calm down Ben. It’ll be ok. Just breathe. The Flash Mob part of the date is over and now Far East Movement is gonna perform a mini concert for them. You know what? I like those guys. I will not confirm nor deny that both of those songs are on my ipod. It’s possible. At this mini concert, Ben and Ashley dance some more. Well, Ashley did. I think Ben just moved his hips and flailed his arms a few times. However, that worked for Ashley. “Any doubt about Bens dancing ability, they’ve been put to rest. Ben was awesome.” Really? I must be Michael Jackson then. You know what’s funny? When this date actually occurred back on March 21st, Ashley actually did an interview with E! who was covering the date and I remember she gave Ben a 4 out of 10 on his dancing skills. So if you only need to impress Ashley by being a 4, she’d fall head over heels for me if I met her. I’m at least a 7 or 8. I wouldn’t make her cry like Bentley.

-Time for these two to head to dinner and Ben is rocking the white pants with dark blazer and purple shirt. He almost looked like one of the Warblers from “Glee”. To say that Ben was a little giddy on this dinner date would be an understatement. Ashley sets him up with the “I wanna get to know you more. Tell me about yourself” line, and then Ben all the sudden has diarrhea of the mouth. He’s talking 1000mph going on and on and on about love, and relationships, and I think he even started breaking down the Theory of Relativity at one point. Ashley never got a word in edgewise. His actual answer when asked about relationships was, “I want to live in an unrealistic, idealistic bubble with someone where we’re convinced we’re like more in love than any other couple that’s ever lived.” Did he really just say that on a first date? Even though Ashley says in her ITM she was blown away by Ben and that’s exactly what she was looking for too, uhhhhh, she was lying. Sorry. Ben was trying waaaaaay too hard. I know you get very little time with her on this show, and when you do, you have to make the most of it. But he went completely overboard. Like, fell-into-the-water-without-a-life-vest-and-is-currently-drowning-with-no-help-in-sight overboard. Geez. She wants Bentley anyway dude. Chill out.

-And it didn’t stop there. The guy just continued to keep speed talking her to death about love and relationships, I thought she was gonna tell him to shut up at one point. He even mentioned, “This is our first date, but I’m already thinking about second date.” Talking about if it were real life (hey, what a novel concept), he’d find a clever way to text her the next day, and what emoticon to use, etc. Someone please shoot me if I ever use an emoticon in my texts. Ever. If you’re a female and you want to use them with me, that’s fine. But you will never get one in return. Just not my style. Until they start coming out with emoticons that have a little dude with his pants down and a face suggesting that he wants to be in bed with you, I guess I’ll just pass on the emoticons, thanks. Speaking of emoticons, what would be the one to describe that incredibly awkward kiss her and Ben had at the end of dinner? Yes, I know Ashley is short, but Ben hovered over her and had like a King Kong Bundy bear hug on her all while tonguing her down. I felt like she was fighting for oxygen. Squeezing the life out of your date on your first real kiss is never a good option.

Steve- I enjoyed your recap, I couldnt stop laughing!!! I agree with you on the show neing fake, manupulated, etc… They just need the rating. And there is more to the story than they say.

STEVE! Oh my gosh, how can you possibly say that you were expecting worse? What did Bent have to do, spit in her eye, for you to think it was a bad exit? This episode was the most horrifying thing to watch, and I had to shield my eyes from it multiple times. Bentley was just openly lying to Ashley’s face the entire time and she fell for it hook, line, and sinker. So humiliating. And then, the Roast I couldn’t even watch it was so embarrassing for everyone involved. Horrible date idea. Horrible show. If they keep doing stuff that is impossible to watch, I’ll have to stop tuning in, which sucks, cuz I like the ridiculousness of it, usually.

Also, what else would have to be in your “big picture” for it to be ok what Bentley was doing? I mean what else could be going on behind the scenes to justify his actions?? That thing someone wrote about his daughter, granted, was the worst thing imaginable to write. that’s sick. But I was surprised that you said you thought he was mostly edited that way. I went into it thinking the same thing, but then they showed him literally on camera saying a majority of it, and if he would say those things, I’d believe the rest. Each sentence was equally bad on its own.

I agree with you that the producers suck, but they suck just as much as Bentley 😀

    And, JP is the bestest.

I agree, Ashley was being way too sensitive at the roast. Has she never seen one before? Sure, the stuff they say is going to bother you, but c’mon, we’ve all had to hold back tears at one point or another and that was the time to do it. There are always people that will criticize, and the best thing to do is develop a Teflon skin. Yeah, truth hurts but none of us is perfect, and life is full of things to worry about without comparing ourselves to other women. She’s young though, and women in their twenties are notoriously insecure. She’s going to be a dentist, if that doesn’t toughen her up, nothing will!! Still feel bad that she has to sit throught this Bentley stuff. Men Tell All should be interesting if they let him show up, eh?

Also, your logic that we shouldn’t talk about it because in a month no one will care could apply to the entirety of every post you’ve ever written, so let us freak out about some asshole, will ya? 🙂

I honestly believe that the producers are offering some kind of incentive to one person each season who agrees to be the “villain”. Michelle Money said all of these outrageous things on camera, but you can tell that’s obviously not her true personality – if it was, she wouldn’t have as many friends as she does from her season. This time we have Bentley, who may well be a douche, but I also think that he was encouraged to be even douchier for the cameras. They want people talking about their show and without drama and shocking! scenarios, they can’t manage to do that after all these years. Of course I’m still watching, but I’m not a moron. It’s all a ratings ploy. You just have to sit back and laugh at it since it’s entertainment. Pure and simple.

I just think the Roast idea in itself was rude. Not every girl can desensitize herself from that kind of stuff (me being one of them). I’m sure that this wasn’t Ashley’s idea. In fact, they probably know she’s sensitive, so they did it on purpose hoping someone would hurt her feelings. It’s so manipulative from the producers. So mean. Of course, the stuff Bentley said about her is way more hurtful than anything that happened at the Roast.

@finerthings- your taking this way to seriously, its a show and they need the ratings. And i agree with Steve it wasnt as bad as how they where promoting it was going to be. Each season there is a “villain” and the show or shall i say Chris Harrison always says stuff like, we couldnt believe what is gong to happen, or we where about to cancel the show, the unexpected will happen etc.. I remember when this show a drama free show now its just drama in every season, there is always a villain, someone leaving the show, then they come back etc… I stopped watching now I just come and reazd Steve’s recaps its more fun and interesting!! But seriously its just a fake-reality TV show, get a grip!!!!!

Great blog as always Steve. You know you’ve hit Reality TV Rock Bottom when even Reality Steve doesn’t want to interview you so you can tell your side of the story. That’s a big OUCH for Bentley. I know it’s all edited and for the life of me can’t understand why Trista Sutter is confused over that fact, however, would any one really care if Bentley said “I was framed??” and wanted to tell his side? I think not.

I have a grip 😀 I’m just a very emotional person, I know 🙂 <—-lots of emoticons. I thought Steve's recap was hilarious, but I do agree with CH (God forbid) that this was probably the worst guy they've had on the show. I didn't think it was overblown one bit. I know they are always saying "worst" and "most unexpected" and all that…I just happen to think this time they were correct. I'm sure the producers egged him on, I'm sure he was edited somewhat, but still…worst display seen on Bachelorette so far? Yeah, I'd say so.

    Love the blog!!!!

I just want to say that in regards to editing, I definitely agree with Steve that the editors pretty much screw with everyone on the show and manipulate how they want them to appear to the TV audience. In the past, I think several contestants have been burned by this. However, in regards to Bentley, there are some things that I saw during the broadcast that the editors just couldn’t make up. He said to her (not in a voiceover), “well at least 24 of the 25 guys are here for you” (or something like that – in regards to Emily). Also, as he comforts her you can see him roll his eyes. How Ashley could be unaware of his body language around her is just strange, unless she is very naive. You could tell that he didn’t want to be with her, but then again everytime they were alone together he was putting the moves on her. It doesn’t make sense, since he didn’t care about her. The whole situation is strange and I wonder is Ashley didn’t at least have some partial knowledge of this.

First I totally thought the same thing during the roast…that is the whole point of the roast to skewer (pun intended) the person getting roasted. I know that the producers planned the date but you would think that Ash could have said no that she just wanted them to do stand up then they would have had them do that. However she agreed to it and she was unable to take it. I did not feel bad for her. William did not mean what he said about Chantal or Emily he was just taking the theme of the roast as it was meant to be and like he said after, it was not compliment Ashely night. However she was a cry baby about it and made William feel awful about it….I felt worse for William than I did for Ashley.
I was so tired after 1 hour of the group date and the Bentley situation I would rather have had it over in way less time and then have them spend at least half an hour on Jp’s date after all he is the one she ends up choosing, speaking of which if I was JP watching last night I would totally feel like second best as Ashley who was warned about Bentley and had not yet spent a 1 on 1 with him claims she felt he was her future husband up until he left so then she was left with the 14 others to narrow it down to JP…I really hope we get to see their relationship develop as well as her and Ben F’s as he is the final 2. I also thought it was funny when Jeff took off his mask and one of the 3 things she said was he was older than she expected…he is 35 and JP is 34!!
I like Ryan and find it hard to believe he is two faced but I guess we will see in the next few episodes how it all plays out, she dose not end up with him so in the end it dosen’t really matter except if he will be the next bachelor.

I agree about Bentley’s exit. I thought it’d be way worse. They made it seem like he was actually going to say some hurtful things to her face. I wasn’t hoping for that, but I was expecting that from all the hype.

Chris disgusts me sometimes. In his little interview with Ashley, where he’s asking her about Bentley, you can tell he’s happy with all the drama that unfolded by the little smirk on his face as he’s talking to her. Same smirk he had when interviewing Michelle Money at the Women Tell All and she was sobbing.

The way they edited this show was ridiculous last night. Instead of feeling sad, although I really felt for poor Ashley, I laughed out loud several times at the editing. I mean, the shot of Bentley leaving in the rain and then the shot in the rain of the house where the rose ceremony is held. Those were just a bit too much for me. I felt like the producers were trying to create an atmosphere of sadness and gloom and doom so hard that he went a bit overboard. I feel sorry for Ashley for getting so caught up in it all so fast, and I feel sorry for Bentley too, honestly.

I admit I watch this showly mainly for entertainment purposes. It usually makes me laugh. However, I can’t imagine the humiliation Ashley must have felt when she watched this show back. Bentley is definitely the biggest asshole in the history of the show. You would figure a man who has a daughter would treat a woman with the same respect he expects her to be treated someday. It takes a real slime ball to do what he did.

Steve, I think you have the Bentley thing spot on. I am actually really disappointed with Ashley that she could care less about this guy. It’s to the point that SHE looks bad as well as him over this. As for Ben’s flashmob and dinner date, I think you’re a little harsh! They probably cut out an hour’s worth of normal dinnertable convo and only kept the part where she asked him about his view’s on love. He’s intense and he talks super fast. But I think he’s rather intelligent and witty and sweet so it ain’t that bad.
My problem with William isn’t that he went so overboard, it’s that he just doesn’t seem funny at all. He seems awkward and immature to me and a bit annoying.

Look, I am a girl and if I was the bachelorette taking a bunch of guys to do a roast of ME I would have had enough sense to know that most those guys are going to target my previous appearance on
“The Bachelor.” What did Ashley think a Roast was going to be? Them comparing her to a fluffy bunny and then they all giggle together? Bologna.

If she is already feeling like the men are disappointed she is the bachelorette and going to have a breakdown over a Emily comparison, maybe she needs to get in touch with that shrink we saw over and over and over again last season with Brad.

Steve – I can’t believe that you didn’t mention the “scene” at the end where Jeff is sitting on the toilet and Bentley is standing next to him fixing his hair. What the heck? Really? And why is Jeff reading those lame ads out of the paper…??? So bizarre!!!! What a hoot!

Am I the only one that is going to mention something about how Bentley appears to be completely incapable of formulating a complete sentence? Whenever he attempts this, half his words are “uh”, “like”, or “yeah”, with excruciatingly long pauses. I think this guy was dropped from the top of the dimwit tree, and hit every branch on the way down. It’s like this guy dropped out of school after 9th grade or something. It is PAINFUL to hear him talk. To be honest, none of the stuff he said bothered me too much, because this guy seems to be too stupid to say something that would hurt Ashley.

William’s roast was certainly kind of harsh, but if he’d been able to be funny it wouldn’t have been quite so bad. To me the real issue with him is that he clearly felt bad that he’d hurt her feelings, but he seemed more focused on himself feeling bad than on letting her know how sorry he was and on telling her how fantastic she really is. She even mentioned this herself in terms of how he responded afterwards.

Bentley was certainly scripted and edited, and is far from a prince, but probably not “the worst guy in the history of the show” by a long shot. It’s the guys who don’t fess up to how they are really feeling even away from the person, or even worse those who don’t even know what they are really feeling who are truly horrible. The worst part was how somehow Ashley fell for him so hard and so fast. Otherwise, what he did would have been mildly hurtful but not devastating.

I’m not getting JP all that much either as his whole idea going into his 1:1 date with her was to let her talk about her day for just a little, and “then move on”. Typical male (some of them): try to quantify how upset you can be for how long, and then want to get back to me me me. His comment may have been edited all to heck too, but I didn’t like how it came across.

I enjoyed the recap as usual, RS. Thanks for the spoilers too. I tried to not read them and then I caved because this season is so dull. I agree with your point about William at the roast–some of the other guys made the same jokes, so what was different about what he said?
@ Mia-a–Chris Harrison is an asshole. I noticed his smug little face too. His concern for the people on the show is so fake.

Gotta admit, I’m lovin’ Bentley. I agree with RS, his exit wasn’t as dramatic as Harrison wanted us to believe. I was expecting Bentley to say something like “you’re not really my type”. In my opinion, the kid excuse was way too kind.

About the roast… that is the lamest idea for a date, EVER. Throwing insults at a girl and then expecting to get some action = stupid. That said, Ashley needs to learn how to laugh at herself. If you sign up to be the Bachelor/or Bachelorette, some people are going to call you hot AND other people are going to insult you. That’s just the way it is. Deal.

Hey Steve….You say that in about a month everyone will mostly forget about Bentley, not so…how long did people hate Brad for doing what he did, and that wasn’t nearly as bad as what Bentley has done. Brad just didn’t want to commit and be their puppet so he picked no one. Bentley was just a rude ass—-. I got the impression that he likes to cause pain to women. Either has a mommy complex, or was really hurt bad by the ex and wants to get even with all women. I don’t agree w/putting his child in the mix, but how would he like it if someday his daughter is treated like he treated Ashley? The shoe would certainly be on the other foot then. I think Bentley should go into hiding or go into witness protection, he’s going to need it for along while.

Love your sarcastic take of these shows. But was a little perplexed this week on why it took you 3 long paragraphs to let us know your “over Bentley” Bentley is not worth a 1 line paragraph let alone 3 very long paragraphs.

I can tell you Steve is wrong that Bentley is regretting what he said and did. Why? Because Bentley is a sociopath. Google it and read the description. Our boy Steve-o just doesn’t get it. And Bentley? He got exactly what he wanted on this show, and he is relishing in it.

I do agree with our boy Steve on one thing, and that is the bulk of the blame lies with ABC. Shame on you, ABC.

By the way, just to remind everyone, these comments are for us, the readers. Steve has said on numerous occasions that he does not read these comments.

Also, btw2, I’m surprised nobody has said anything about Bentley’s ugly plaid shirts. I mean, check out his bio pic for one. He’s a dork.

I didn’t hear anything Chris H. said when he walked in with the first date card because I was too focused on JP’s giant man nipples…eww
What is up with Ashley licking her front teeth all the time, is that a dentist thing or is she really paranoid about food being stuck in her teeth? She should probably re-think those glasses too, way too big for her face (kinda like her eyelashes), I think they were going for nerdy sexy…they failed
On a final note, enough with the low cut shirts Ash, we all know your part of the itty bitty titty committee we don’t need verification with every outfit. Great write up as usual Steve

What happens EVERY season on this show?

The Bachelor or Bachelorette leads on a BUNCH of people, picking at MOST one person at the end.

What Bentley did is EXACTLY what Ashley would have been doing — pretend to be into people you aren’t into, so that there’s a show.

Just look at Brad and Chantal. EVERY season, the contestants get led on for weeks and months, and get sent home heartbroken.

Except instead of leading her on for 10 weeks, he recused himself after THREE weeks, and ZERO one-on-one dates.

They spent a few minutes together a couple of times and she’s IN LOVE?

And then when he leaves, she says she doesn’t know what she’s going to do, because he was basically her pick. So she was going to lie to all the other guys up til the end, because that’s how this show works, and then pick Bentley anyway.

The only difference is, you got to HEAR him say how he’s not into her. Guaranteed every season, the Bachelor or Bachelorette says the EXACT same things to the producers. They may want to pick one person and go home early. So the producers have to convince them to fake it, if they start to waver.

Remember that almost all the sites, including this one, were reporting that Emily was going to be the next Bachelorette. That’s why Bentley signed up.

If you think what he did was wrong, then you have to condemn every single Bachelor and Bachelorette and thus the entire show, because the whole show is ABOUT leading on multiple people, making out with multiple people, and even having sex with multiple people that you AREN’T into, before booting them out the door, heartbroken.

Ashley’s no saint. She signed up to do to the guys EXACTLY what Bentley did to her.

    The End.

Please people.. I agree with Steve.. Bentley’s exit isn’t bad.. if he was some god awful person who just want to hurt Ashley.. he can say some nasty things to her face and leave laughing.. he doesn’t have to act all cuddly and actually pretend he’s having a hard time leaving her. OR.. he can be that a-hole guy on Julian’s season who made it to 3rd place all playing a game.. no way.. Bentley’s exit is nothing. I like to see one of these days.. some guy is being a true a-hole and say some hurtful things right at The Bachelorette’s face.. now that’s an @$$HOLE!

Haha, when they were doing the roast and they were all making comments about Ashley’s boobs, I got a little sad and looked at my husband and said, “I think my boobs are smaller than hers!” We just laughed. I’ve always been that way too and I’ve also heard every joke in the book. But, I work out and don’t have a lot of body fat, so I usually feel like telling anyone that makes fun of me that I’ll take my body over theirs any day! I’m damn sure that I look better naked even without boobs!!!

Great recap, good job RS. She should be outraged at the producers for the emotional mind games they intentionally put her through in order to get drama to drive their ratings. I felt bad that Bentley lied to her face – no one deserves that. I’m a new fan of Ashley simply for her putting up with so much bullsh*t.

You wrote, “And Bentley fell hook, line, and sinker. Why?” I can’t help but wonder if both Bentley and Michelle Money got pre-paid or paid at-the-moment to say the things they said in their ITMs. Imagine sitting in an ITM and someone holds out $500 in cash and says, “Hey, if you say ‘Tickle my pickle’ I’ll hand this over right now.” Thoughts? There are a lot of ways to manipulate and bribe people to say things they may regret later.

I keep hearing about how insecure Ashley is. Come on world, all women are insecure but some just don’t put it out there for whatever reason. I think that’s what makes Ashley more endearing is that she does put honesty into how she is as a person. If a man can’t accept her for exactley who she is, physically and emotionally then he has no business pursuing her. I mean, wouldn’t it be horrible if she portrayed herself to be confident and secure and somewhere down the road, reveal her true self? That has happened to all of us at one point or another in relationships. How many times have you heard someone say the guy turned out to be an a#*hole or the woman turned out to be crazy! Reminds me of how Emily claims Brad has a temper. It was probably kept in check during the filming of the show so nobody would know the truth.

I rooted for Emily last season not because I thought she was better than Ashley but because the chemistry between her and Brad was so obvious.

I think Ashley is extraordinary. As Marilyn Monroe once said, “I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

It is Ashleys time for better things to fall together. GO ASHLEY!!

Overall I agree with Steve about the Bentley situation, except for one thing. When he left, he should not have left his leaving on a “dot dot dot” basis. In other words, he shouldn’t have left open the idea that there was any chance they should ever get together. I think that was a much more damaging type of lie than the lie that he was leaving for sake of being with his daughter. It would have taken a lot of courage, but the right thing to do would have been to let her know, gently, that it was never going to happen between them. All of that kissing and hugging while saying good-bye did not give her the closure she needed.

What I don’t know is whether Bentley thought of the idea of leaving the situation unclosed, or whether the producers told him to do that. Either way, it wasn’t the right thing to do.

My guess is that Bentley comes back later because the producers want him to. Not only for drama’s sake, but to give some closure to Ashley.

Bentley wanted his 3 second of fame and got it. Now, please crawl back under the rock you left. I guess his X is his X for a very good reason. Nice, tender, caring guy he turned out to be…NOT!

Rewatching the show and heard all the spliced areas. He was giving them some great material to work with and producers really made the most of it. Lesson to future contestants…please keep your mouth shut or filter things you say before spewing them.

As for women wanting to date him, there are plenty of flakes around who would find him appealing. Most intelligent women would shake him off and never look back. He isn’t the brighest bulb in the box to be sure but someone will think he is just the best there is to offer. If a women sets her sights low enough, there’s a Bentley out there for her!

And why would the show put a stop to a train wreck? Not a chance. Ratings, ratings, ratings folks are all that matters. Ashley’s emotional well being…not a concern with anyone connected with the show.

OMG, Ashley is on the cover of People this week. Are you flipping kidding me? I take back everything I said before. How long ago did they do this little article. This show is about as real as The Hills, which I didn’t watch either.

I hope this stunt they pulled this year brings their ratings straight down. The whole lot of them are a waste of time.

The Bentley storyline was completely fake. You saw this storyline before with “jerk” from the Canadian bachelorette, remember? The producers simply took things up a notch. Ashley was smirking last week when she begged Bentley to “please stay”. She knew what was up. Go back and watch the tape.

The concept wouldn’t work in reverse because no guy would get all distraught over some girl playing him for a fool. Think about it.

The bachelorette show is raking in the viewers (you people) with the “guys who act like jerks” storylines. They know you’ll fall for it EVERY BLEEPING TIME! These shows have become the modern-day version of a SOAP OPERA!

    Don’t be so gullible, people!

At least this season is showing everybody what it really is. You wonder how many times they had to reset for Monday’s episode. Okay, Ashley, move here so we can see you crying. Hey Bentley, could you say it again because our shot was blocked. Then all the stuff she was “saying” while she was sobbing in her bed, she was probably reading a teleprompter.

They will get a lot of people watching, but it’s not because they are invested in these people or are looking for a love story. It’s more like a train wreck that people can’t turn away from.

Well I called it at least half right a week ago. I still would not be surprised if Bentley does end up an Bachelor Pad, perhaps not this time around, but next time. BTW – sociopaths tend to be very vague when they speak, they prefer to be cryptic and do not commit to an answer, they do this on purpose so the person will take what they want to hear from what they didn’t say; that way if confronted later, they can say they said no such thing. Socio’s are expertly skilled at implication type communication. Also, they find tears annoying, disgusting due to their utter lack of empathy, yet they are exceptional mimic’s and can act the way they see others act but feel nothing. They are filled with contempt towards those they believe are weak or gullible.

What I said a week ago:
    crossedmymind Says:
    May 31st, 2011 at 1:13 AM

Bentley will be a shoe in for bachelor pad – any takers on a bet? They need to have at least one hated jerk. Bentley is possibly a sociopath, IMHO – have known one and Bentley fits the profile – unless of course the producers have scripted Bentley in to play the sociopath role. They love to conquer and then cruelly devour their prey

  45. sweetness34

    June 9, 2011 at 6:40 AM

I’m so cynical about this show that I saw it as mostly staged by the producers as well.

I am not sure if Bentley is a sociopath. Bentley seems to suffer more from what I call, “douchebag player frat boy in his 20s syndrome”. It’s this thing that some young men go through where they try to play women while forming this weird pack mentality with their friends where they also talk badly about women. This is the same syndrome that causes guys to rate women or start “hot-or-not” lists. The Jersey Shore guys are good examples. Maybe Bentley and the Jersey Shore guys can get together. “Dude, let’s go pick up some grenades….”

A lot of guys mature out of this, but Bentley hasn’t yet I guess.

  46. mommyof2

    June 9, 2011 at 6:45 AM

You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Bentley on this season’s Bachelor Pad, too. Think about it: if the producers wanted him on this season’s Bachelor Pad, they would encourage him to hang on to the Bachelorette show (even though he didn’t want to be there b/c Emily wasn’t the ‘ette) until they tell him it’s time. That way, Bentley gets exposure on their show as the villain for 3 episodes. Then, they told him “it’s time” so that they could have their “dramatic” exit on the Bachelorette. They probably would’ve liked him to stay longer on the Bachelorette for ratings, but they decided to have him leave at this point so that they could announce the Bachelor Pad cast sooner rather than later, and it wouldn’t make sense if his name was on that cast list if he was still on the Bachelorette show. Now, if he’s not on this season’s Bachelor Pad, then obviously I’m wrong about the producers deciding when he should leave the Bachelorette show; they probably would’ve liked him to stay longer- like they did to Frank on Ally’s season. Speaking of Frank on Ally’s season, I guess it’s becoming a staple on this show for them to have one bachelor who the ‘ette falls for who strings the ‘ette along and then leaves, creating lots of drama, crying, and “broken hearts”. Ridiculous! Anyway, if Bentley’s not on this season’s Bachelor Pad, I’d expect him on next year’s cast list!

  47. mommyof2

    June 9, 2011 at 6:47 AM

Oh, and even though I think Bentley was manipulated by the producers, I still think he’s a complete jerk! He’s still responsible for his own words and actions and how he treats women. He’s a loser in my book.

  48. morrigan0

    June 9, 2011 at 10:07 AM

Bentley came off as a jerk but in the grand scheme of storylines I don’t think it was the worse. I wonder how Frank is doing w/that girlfriend he got back with now that someone brought him up. I can see how the show chooses to edit things to make it more scandalous but wonder, if they did a season without any producer input (splicing, editing, giving suggestions, etc) would people still watch? Now with the Bachelor Pad being thrown into the mix, I wonder if they’re going to allow more “bad boys/girls” to have a wider selection for it.

I know the show is bogus but part of me still wonders if it would work were it not for so much involvement by show people. If the lead got to set up locations and activities maybe it would be more organic as opposed to so completely outlandish and out of reality.

    A psychologist’s take on Bentley.
    http://www.wetpaint.com/the-bachelorette/articles/exclusive-psychologist-alisa-robinson-explains-bentley-williams-disturbing-behavior

Narcissists-sociopaths-psychopaths–all are basically the same disorder, with narcissists the “least severe”. So when we peg Bentley as a “soc” we are putting him somewhere in this spectrum. This disorder is actually fairly common. Many people have the misconception that you have to be a serial killer to be in this spectrum. Most people in this category are actually “sub-criminal” and are smart enough to fly under the radar of law enforcement. They exist in every profession, and you may even have one living next door to you (as I do).
