Another long batch of “Reader Emails” and “Dr. Reality Steve”, which appear on the last page. And yes, we get some repetitive ones yet again. Enjoy…
You responded to a reader email this one:
“Dear Steve, you are hilarious! Your nicknames for people are my favorites. Nothing tops “Weather Skirt” from Jillian’s season! Anyway, I wondered if you ever caught the show, “Cupid” that came out years ago, trying to compete with The Bachelor? I believe Simon Cowell was involved in that. It seemed completely fake but the couple in the end did seem to really care about each other. They actually seemed “normal.” Just wondering if you have the info. about what ever happened to those two? I remember the guy was named “Hank” but can’t remember the girl’s name anymore. Just a blast from the past and I was wondering if they can be added to the list of TV romances that never work out, or if they are the exception. Thanks!”
I didn’t even watch this show but it peaked my interest and I wondered if I could figure it out. First I had to find out their names, which turned out to be Hank Stepleton and Lisa Shannon. Then I googled a picture of them which you can find here:
Then I googled their names individually and got this facebook profile:
You can’t tell that it is Hank but if you search his friends you find:
Whose name is “Lisa Shannon Rieveschl.” Apparently she was on the wedding channel and got married on September 26, 2008 and works on the tv show “Supernanny,” as a casting producer. It is definitely the same Lisa Shannon as on “Cupid,” based on the picture.
So the answer to the reader’s question is no they are not together. Wow. I probably shouldn’t be sending this since it shows how easy it is to cyber stalk someone, BUT I am going to call it cyber-sleuthing and let my inner Poirot/Holmes/Nancy Drew loose. I get curious easily and it took all of five minutes to figure it all out…
Comment: Thank you for doing work for me. I had no interest in ever bothering looking that up.
Hi Reality Steve!
I love reading your blog so much!
I was just reading your reader email about the FAQ. It’s funny because I was JUST thinking the same thing!! I even looked to see if you HAD a FAQ section because there is a question that seems to be a mystery..one that you refuse to answer..and that is: “How does the Bachelor remember all the names of the women on the first rose ceremony?” And more importantly, why won’t you answer this question again! Before I wrote this, I googled for the answer, and no luck at all! I looked back a bit in your blog, no answer! I am a HUGE fan and just wondering if you could write me back and let me know the answer to this mystery. 🙂
Wishing and a hoping that you write me back!
P.S. – My Mom and I think they use an earpiece and the producers help them with a list they have previously prepared. If I am right, just write back, “you are brilliant”
Aaaaaannnnd this one….it’ll never f***ing end.
Just wondering if the Bachelor/Bachelorette has any help remembering contestants names during the rose ceremony.
It seems to remember 25 girls names on the first night would be crazy!
Do they put up a chart with names off to the side so the Bachelor/Bachelorette can glance at.
I remember one time where the wrong girls name was said (first name was same/initial of last name was wrong) but they let her stay anyway.
Comment: I know there are plenty of “Reader Email” columns you’d have to go back and look through in the archives to find the answer, but I’ve answered it numerous times, and I’ve deflected the question numerous times. You know why? Because it seems to get asked EVERY WEEK. If I don’t answer it now, it’ll get asked again. If I DO answer it now, it’ll still get asked again and again. I’m in a lose-lose here. So I’m gonna choose not to answer it. 1) Because I’m sick of answering it and 2) Because it’s not that freakin’ important anyway. Why do so many people need the answer to this question? It’s unreal. So, I’m sorry. No answer, and it’ll get asked again and again and again, and I’ll continue to post it and make fun of it.
You may or may not have already covered this, but I was wondering on what the time-frame in each destination was? I know they spend two months filming, but do they really spend a week in each city? You yourself said that they are virtually held prisoner in their hotels until their respective dates. So its not like they can spend the week sight-seeing or anything like that. It seems more like they are spending 3 or 4 days tops in each city???
One more question: If Emily really is the Bachelorette and they move filming to Charlotte, are they just going to stay in Charlotte and pretty much do another Charlie O’Connell season? I mean, its not like you can take a 6 year old to Timbuktu or anything,…
Thanks for answering my questions!
Comment: Usually about 5 days. The day you arrive is an off day. Each date (Usually two 1-on-1’s and a group date) has it’s own day, with a rose ceremony on the last day. Take the San Francisco episode for example since that one I was giving you updates in real time.
Monday Sept 26th: met up with sister Julia
Tuesday Sept. 27th: 1-on-1 date with Emily
Wednesday Sept. 28th: Group date skiing in SF streets
Thursday Sept. 29th: 1-on-1 date with Lindzi
Friday Sept. 30th: Rose ceremony when Shawntel shows up
Saturday Oct 1st: Leave for Park City, UT
Hi from Houston, TX, Steve!
First of all, I have to tell you how much I LOVE your site. I’m a long time reader who loves to sit and watch smugly knowing the truth while my friends get caught up in all of the typical Bachelor nonsense, though I won’t go so far as to spoil the season for them unless, of course, they ask (my mom always asks me to spoil it so she doesn’t have to watch it any more, though she can’t seem to stop watching the train wreck and neither can I). Second, ABC can go *&^% themselves for coming after you – you actually keep us interested in this show…without you I wouldn’t watch, plain and simple.
So if you would be so kind, I have two questions for you. Question 1 – you mentioned that no kicked off contestant has ever returned to another season from the beginning, but didn’t Mary from Fishing Bachelor’s season (was his name Byron?) get kicked off of Bob’s season? I didn’t watch Fishing Bachelor’s season so she may have made an appearance in the middle…I just can’t remember. Question 2 – one of your readers asked you about minority contestants not being on the Bachelor. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve been watching this show on and off since Alex’s season, and in the first few years I vividly remember both Bachelors and Bachelorettes keeping around minority contestants for at least a couple of episodes (there was always at least 1 african-american contestant kept for the first 1-2 episodes for many years); and I remember thinking how staged it was and that clearly producers told the leads, “look, you don’t have to pick a minority in the end, but you at least have to keep one around for a week or two just to make it look like we’re not a bunch of racists here”. But then in recent years, there have been absolutely no minority candidates on any of the seasons. Why the change?
Again, love your site and keep up the great work!
Comment: 1) A lot of people have brought this up since I made that statement, so let me address it. What I said was (when referencing Shawntel coming back in the middle of the season), I said that nobody had ever been re-cast from another season and was on a new season from the very beginning. Mary was a Bob’s season, then re-cast for Byron, but she wasn’t there the first episode. I don’t remember what episode she arrived (prob 3rd or 4th), but she wasn’t there from the beginning, and that was my point.
2) Probably because they turned in to racists.
Honestly, I have no idea.
