A lot of stuff to get to before the emails, and yes, today is the 4 year anniversary of me adopting Maddie. I will try to keep her in my lap longer on the show tonight, but no guarantees. I highly doubt she’s aware today is the anniversary of her adoption. In fact, I’m willing to bet anything on it. Of course, we’re back tonight with another live video blog (9PM EST/6PM PST). I’m guessing this one will be a tad shorter than past ones for a couple reasons. 1) I want it to be so I can get back to watching March Madness 2) My readership usually goes down a bit once the season is over 3) There isn’t a whole lot to talk about “Bachelor/ette” wise that won’t be covered in this column today. But definitely join me tonight, and I’m guessing your question will get through since I don’t see it being as crowded. This can start being a time where you can ask non-Bachelor related questions as well with “Idol,” “The Voice,” “Survivor,” and “Celebrity Apprentice” all in full swing.
As for yesterday, thank you to everyone who donated and thank you to everyone who will donate in the future. This weekend, we are going to move the donate button to a visible part of the page, because, it doesn’t look like this legal mess is ending anytime soon. This is going to be an ongoing battle I plan to fight and stand up for what I believe in, even if it’s costing me a lot. I appreciate any donations I get, but just know that what I owe far exceeds what the donations are, so anything can help. It means a lot. If you missed Matthew Chan’s link from Sunday night, not to mention his follow up column yesterday which was just as good (and even another one today), go to the link below to read it. Or since it doesn’t look like he’s done writing about it you can click here and have it bookmarked every time he adds a new column. A very interesting perspective on all of it:
This honestly really isn’t even about me, and whether you like me or my website. It’s about standing up for what you believe is the right for free speech. I don’t need to get on a soapbox about it, but I’ve known from the very beginning of this fight that I haven’t done and am not doing anything wrong. It is unfair what I’m being accused of because I absolutely do NOT pay people for non-public information that I post on my site. The allegation simply is not true, and I’ve stood by that from the get-go. So if you’d like to donate to my legal defense fund (unless you’re from California—sorry), please click the link below. Anything you can would be helpful:
I can assure each and every one of you that all monies donated are being sent directly to my lawyers. I had some people question me yesterday in email saying why am I asking for money if I’m taking vacations to NY tomorrow, etc. Look, I still have a life to live. I’m still paying my lawyers with my own money, I still pay my bills, I still have some disposable income every month. It’s not like I have to sit at home all day every day and never leave because I’m getting sued. But anything I can do to add to my defense fund only helps. Whether it’s $5, $10, $50, whatever. Anything helps at this point, and I can’t be more honest when I say all of it is going to my lawyers. I might even take a picture of the check and post it once I do. Not sure yet. This is an ongoing battle, and I’m going to continue to put the “Donate” link up in probably every column til this is over. It’s too important not to.
On a lighter note, did you see the candy that Cheaterville.com has come out with? Damn. Now I’m hungry for gummy bears. Kinda funny that they included Courtney of all people on their bag. I guess she inspired them to do it since they reported a few months back she cheated. No idea if that’s true or not, but you know you’ve made it in this world when you are now on the cover of a gummy bear bag. I’m sure she’s proud.
On to Emily’s season, with some news about yesterday. As mentioned, filming began last night at the mansion. You either knew this by me telling you weeks ago, or if you happen to follow Chris Harrison, Mike Fleiss, or any of the producers on the show who were live tweeting throughout the Meet and Greet last night. Some people asked me this morning if this was the show’s way of sticking it to me by “spoiling” what was happening. I saw their tweets. What did they actually spoil? Nothing. It’s not like we didn’t know filming was happening last night. They didn’t give out any guys names, didn’t give out any pictures of the guys, didn’t tell us who got the first impression rose, and didn’t tell us who got eliminated. So yeah, they didn’t spoil sh**. And lets not forget, there was live tweeting going on during Ben’s first night, as well as “Bachelor Pad 2.” All they’re doing is drumming up interest and getting people excited for Emily’s season. Nothing more, nothing less. They’re not ever going to spoil anything major about their show on Twitter, I can guarantee you that. Judging by the tweets, looks like filming ended about 6am this morning, which is standard for the first night. Nothing shocking about that.
Unfortunately, we have yet another casualty of one of the guys I confirmed for Emily’s season, and it’s an all too familiar story. As you know, they bring more than 25 guys out there before filming starts. In case of emergencies, or guys get cold feet, etc. They have to be prepared, so they always have some standbys in case something happens. Or, they just decide at the last minute to go with someone over someone else. Like they did last night. Hours before the guys met Emily last night, Ben Smith was sent home. He will NOT be on Emily’s season, but he was definitely there ready to be cast. For whatever reason, he was let go hours before filming started and apparently wasn’t given a reason as to why. But that’s not uncommon. I know of two other people from past seasons who were flown to LA, set to be one of the bachelor/ettes only to be let go the day of filming starting with no explanation given. So we can now cross Ben off the list. Next season, I definitely will not release ANY names until the actual filming starts, not when the guys have left for filming. Anything can happen in those three days, as we’ve just seen.
Now, as for my tweets a couple days ago, I couldn’t be more excited to announce “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time meet the Muppets on the ‘Bachelorette’ tonight…” That’s because this Saturday, Emily will be having a group date in the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in uptown Charlotte in which all the proceeds will benefit the Levine Children’s Hospital, a place where Emily has done volunteer work in the past. The event takes place between 2:30-7:30 and yes, the Muppets will be in attendance. Normally, I don’t get giddy for any of these dates because they’re basically recycled from past seasons, but sh**, the Muppets? How do I get in to this thing? Well, it is a private event. I don’t believe this is open to the public. I’ve seen that the tickets are $50, and were made available by email to certain people, but I don’t think to everyone. Whatever the case, that will be Emily’s date this Saturday night, and I would hope that I’ll hear some things regarding it after the fact. I’ll keep you posted.
