A decent batch of “Reader Emails” this week. Of course, it has some mind numbing questions in there, but that’s to be expected, right? I mean, I’ve only been doing these for almost a year. You gotta believe it’s a matter of time the same question will pop up every now and then for the 1 gazillionth time.
Love your website. I started watching the very first season of The Bachelor and watched the franchise through Bob Guiney’s season. After that I didn’t pick it up again until the finale of Jillian’s season. Throughout these last few years all I ever hear are complaints about how boring everyone thinks The Bachelorette (herself) is… especially this season with Emily. Has there ever been a Bachelorette with a generally positive consensus from America?
This question just struck me the other day when I was reading yet another blog post about how boring Emily is.
Comment: Of course not. Because there’s not a single human being walking the face of this planet that is universally liked by every other person. Impossible. Anyone in the public eye has people that dislike them, no matter who you are. Just like the news about Roberto. It’s getting the same reaction as every other lead when they’re announced. Some people can’t wait, some people don’t care for him, then you got your batch of people that want them to cast a fresh face. It’s the same every season. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Whoever said that Chris looks like Gerard Butler…umm….No! He reminds me of the guy who played Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. Just sayin….
Comment: Uhhhh, Buffalo Bill? The dude that eats people, and looks at himself naked in the mirror with his penis tucked between his legs? Wow. Check please…
What is the deal with Emily’s teeth? She is always doing some weird lip thing like she is sucking on her teeth. Makes me think she is wearing a flipper a la Toddlers & Tiaras. Noticed it on Brad’s season too. Creeps me out.
Comment: Yes, she does seem to do that a lot. Probably just a quick way to keep those veneers shining.
I just read your most recent “reader email” column and wanted to make
a quick comment about this tweet and your response:
Tweet: Anyone else noticed how no-one on The Bachelorette ever has a
visible logo on any item of clothing? (Any idea why @RealitySteve ?)
Comment: That goes for most reality shows, not just the “Bachelor.”
You’re not allowed to promote product.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out something that I noticed on the
week 2 episode. Both Ryan Bowers and Alejandro were wearing large
rubber bracelets that said Athelite on them. I didn’t notice if any of
the other guys had them on, but I’m positive that both of these guys
did. As I’m sure you know, Athelite is Ryan Bower’s gym in Augusta. I
just thought it was interesting that the producers didn’t prevent the
branded bracelets from being worn or shown, given that they promote
the business of one of the contestants.
Comment: I think it’s more national brand product that you can’t promote like Nike, Adidas, etc. No one’s ever heard of Athelite before Ryan appeared on the show, and it’s so small, it’s probably not that big of a deal to them.
Forgive me if this is a question you’ve been asked 1,000 times. How long do one-on-one dates usually last? Do they film the entire date and use the best footage? Or do they let them have alone time, then prep them for their camera time (i.e. staging the conversation, giving talking points like “Ask him about his childhood now” or “Question him about if he’s ready to be a dad here”, etc.) The couple of minutes they show on each date just seem so forced to me.
Comment: Yes. It’s usually an 8-10 hour date, if not longer, and you get to see maybe 15 minutes of it. And of course the stuff that you see is forced. It’s a tv show.
My question for you is what guy you like the most so far(what guy is the least annoying/weird) and why. Also, in your opinion, who do you think would be best for Emily and ricky??
Comment: I think without a doubt Sean seems to be the most normal guy on the show. He hasn’t worn anything stupid (Jef), have a bunch of ex’s back home he fooled around with before leaving (Arie), isn’t 25 and insecure (Chris), etc. Emily keeps saying Doug seems too perfect. She needs to change that over to Sean.
