The Bachelorette 8 - Emily

A Brief Summary of Thursday’s Video Blog and What Really Happens Tonight

Now, as for tonight’s episode, here’s what really happens. When I gave the episode-by-episode spoilers for Croatia, I had said that Ryan and Travis both get 1-on-1 dates, and the group date is Arie, Jef, Sean, Chris, Doug, and Wolfner. But we know that on 1-on-1 dates, you either get a rose and stay, or you don’t and go home. All I knew for sure was at the end of this date, the six guys going to Prague were the six guys on the group date. My guess was that Ryan got a rose on his 1-on-1 and then Emily takes it back at the rose ceremony, which is what prompted the Fleiss tweet back in April when this was happening of “When is a rose not a rose.” Well, not quite.

What happens tonight is Ryan and Travis BOTH get sent home on their 1-on-1 dates. When the rose ceremony starts, there are 6 guys and 5 roses to give out. The promo for last week makes you think that Emily runs outside during the rose ceremony telling Chris, “Who else in there isn’t all about me?” You can see that clip right here:

Well that’s not true. Emily never says that line tonight. Hell, just watch the clip closely. You never actually see those words coming out of her mouth. Her back is to the camera when that voiceover is playing. Not to mention the fact that when she gets up to Chris, his mouth is moving talking to her yet we’re not hearing anything that comes out of his mouth. So the clip makes you think she’s all pissed off, storms out of the rose ceremony, and thinks that she’s being played. But the reality is, Emily actually just goes outside to ask Chris for another rose, because she wants to keep all six guys there, and that’s what she does. So knowing now that all six guys at the rose ceremony stay, and knowing that Ryan was already eliminated the day before, it makes no sense for her to go storming outside all pissed off saying, “Who else in there isn’t all about me,” does it?

As for the other clip that last week showed Arie sneaking into her room and night to possibly “warn her” about someone in the house? That’s misleading too. Arie visits Emily after Ryan’s already been sent home on his 1-on-1 date and he just goes to comfort her, get some make out time, and tell her she made the right decision by letting Ryan go.

If you ask me right now, “Well when does she utter the line ‘Who else in there isn’t all about me?'”, I’d say it’s from when she finds out that Arie and Cassie had a previous relationship. Just a guess on my part, but, I can’t really think of any other instance that would cause her to utter such a line. Once she finds out about the relationship, wouldn’t it make sense that she’d begin to question, “Hey, maybe he’s not here for me either” after already realizing that Kalon was a douche and Ryan seems to want a trophy wife? Makes perfect sense to me, but then again, this could end up being a voiceover that we never hear the rest of the season. Won’t be the first time this show has shown a clip or played a voiceover in a promo that we never ended up seeing or hearing later on in the season, and it certainly won’t be the last. Time will tell if we ever get the true meaning of that sentence or when she ever said it. But it certainly doesn’t happen tonight.

I’m glad I could help you sort through all the producer manipulations and wacky editing. That’s what I’m here for. Be sure to tip your waitress.

Jovismom said “I think Jef is ok…. I agree that he reminds me of a little kid. He looks like The Geek in 16 Candles”.

Now, I don’t usually agree with you on much Jovi, but this observation is spot on!

    @kasey….lol @ your post thanking everyone. 😉

@Liz….I usually DO agree with you on most, except for this Jef issue. I just don’t see those two meshing.

I’m cheering for Jef!! He seems so down to earth and real. I feel like growing up in Utah would make him a good candidate to be a dad. I don’t know him personally, but around here it is totally normal to be married and have kids young. At his age most people are married with kids. Seems weird to the rest of the world, but its true. I’m 24 and have two kids and almost all my friends are married and have one or two kids. So I don’t doubt his friends are the same and it would be easy for him to jump into a fatherly role. I feel like Arie might get the boot, but she’ll decide she’s not mad at him and bring him back. Maybe she’ll say no to Jef and Sean at the FINAL rose ceremony and Arie will role up and we’ll all be shocked. Just a guess. But I’m team Jef all the way!!

Jef comes across as the nice guy, the one who was ignored by many gals in school, but was actually the best catch.
However, I don’t see Emily with him. She comes across as much more mature than Jef, but then, I may be judging that by his boyish looks. He seems very stable, patient, and compassionate.

I like the idea of her continuing to date a couple of them. These couples always all challenges when they leave the show and wouldn’t it be just too cool for someone to acknowledge that. Emily would be smart to leave the show with 2 still to continue learning about them.

Yuk, Roberto is the next Bachelor?? Just yuk ……
    That’s a season I won’t be watching.

I’ll have to wait until the hometown dates, but I’m still thinking she doesn’t pick anyone…

I have to admit, as much as I love Jef, he doesn’t make her light up the way Arie does. Arie, from the editing, seems to be the one she is drawn to the most, at least physically. I’d have to hear more conversations between the two of them, because right now it might just be heavy lust.

I don’t have a good feel for Sean in any way. He’s great looking and seems really nice, but beyond that, I don’t feel anything either way. Of course I snoozed through half the show last night, so I’ll need to catch up and see if I missed any major interaction between the two of them.

Jef will make some woman a very nice husband some day, but I don’t think Emily will be that person.

I also have to say I like Emily more then I have in the past. I still perceive her as not very warm (except with little adorable Rickie), but I could be way off base. That’s why I’m having a hard time with the top three, if they are truly the top three. I don’t see any special spark/warmth/connection with any of them, and that’s taking the physical connection with Arie out of the equation.

Hopefully I can watch it all tonight without falling asleep!

Didn’t Charlie O’Connell date the F2 for awhile before he decided? How did they end up doing that FRC? I can’t seem to remember. I wouldn’t be surprised if Emily did something like this & I agree with the PPs (previous posters) that this is a really smart thing to do. I think they should always do it this way!

    June 19, 2012 at 10:22 AM

@liz123 – I think they did the FRC for Charlie, but I somehow remember him not proposing. He said he wanted to “date” for a while first.

    @ cammie99 – LOL!!! I knew it was only a matter of time! 😉

Charlie did say that he just wanted to “date” for a while.
I agree with everone with the idea of Emily possible NOT picking anyone. I can’t seem to remember but Jason was the only other Lead with a kid right? Was Jason’s (Ty I think his name was) kid’s mother still in the picture? I think having the other parent around may have a difference in how the leads take a proposal or possibly even who the might pick.

Not a trophy wife? My ass! Wouldn’t that mean you actually had to care about something more than your looks and fame? Hum…let’s see, do you have a college degree? No. Do you or have you ever worked? No…and your fake volunteer job at Levine doesn’t count. I mean really work, a real job, with sweat and actually hours and a paycheck. Hum? Nope.

Trophy wife…well, let’s see! Do you spend countless hours in the salon, spa and doctor’s offices around Charlotte getting extensions, teeth, botox, restylane, etc? Yep. Check 1. Have you or will you ever work on anything other than your back? Um nope. Do you have any ambition in life other than to find a “husband or baby daddy?” Um no! Well honey…what we have here is a bonified, Trophy Wife.

Honey, your gross depiction of a strong, sassy, Southern Belle makes me want to vomit and call Chelsea Handler to kick your ass! #@$%! really…please! You are nothing but a skank ass, trophy wife, gold digger who laid on your back for money. It is called whore. Own it !@#$%

ughreality, Whew, that was harsh. However, for many of us who have committed to education and our careers while balancing being parents (sometimes single ones), Emily does seem to have had and chosen a quite different life path. However, NO woman wants to be only thought of as arm candy. Perhaps even more so because she doesn’t have a Resume to back up her desire to be more than that.

linds, your hypothesis about her having Arie come back is intriguing, and I can see it happening. That’s totally my own projection of course, but it makes sense to me. She’s thrown by all the intrigue/suspicion/drama of the Cassie-reveal and ends up thinking that she can’t really trust him. Then, when all is said and done and she’s left with Sean and Jef, she realizes she really misses Arie and arranges for him to return…Heck, it’s probably WAY off the mark, but what the heck, it’s my fantasy and I’m stickin’ to it. U n t i l Steve gives us the real scoop anyhow.

I can’t imagine what is going to happen that causes her to let Doug go. He is the total package, and he was the only one who saw right away that Emily needed to be told about Kalon. If he gets hot and punches someone, it’s because he is all MAN! Emily can’t have it both ways-a guy who will fight for his family, but not himself? Other than Doug, I like Jef, but she won’t pick him because she is a Christian and he is Mormon and she will forsee many problems with that-well, unless she wants to intentionally pick someone it won’t work out with, and carry on with the fame quest. If that was the plan-Ryan would have been a better pick-certainly looks like a great short time guy. I can’t help it, but he is kind of entertaining….too bad he isn’t in the game longer. I could see him hosting a new version of “Family Feud” and doing a bang up job at it.

and Arie bores me and looks to be the only guy in the house who doesn’t work out…….but I think she probably picks him for the whole racing lifestyle

steve why do you hate Arie so much? What did he ever do to you? At least if he did a video blog he wouldn’t do it with his freak’n kitchen as the back drop. Or be so full of himself to stop to feed his dog and let his dog out to pee.
I just don’t get why you are so consumed by TV? I guess that’s what you get when you can only afford a one bedroom apt.

“I just don’t get why you are so consumed by TV? I guess that’s what you get when you can only afford a one bedroom apt.” Wow, you’re not a snob or anything. Geez.

Actually he has said before in a previous video blog that his apt is a 2 bdrm but that’s besides the point.

@ onegeek – What is your deal? That was the dumbest comment I think I ever read on here! I live in Dallas as does Steve and I can tell you that apartment is probably at least $1500/month if it’s 2 bedrooms.

    June 20, 2012 at 12:36 PM

Agreed, JovisMom. So tacky to judge a person by where they live or how much $ they make. I’m sure onegeek must live a perfect life. Must be nice.

I was just about to post a comment about how pleasant everyone has been lately.

onegeek…having a bad day and taking it out on a blogger? Friend or family of Arie? Like I recommended to someone the other day, exercise is a great outlet for anger. You might benefit from about 3 hours on the treadmill :).

there is no way that producers didn’t tell emily that arie dated cassie from the beginning of the show. they must have told her before the start and she agreed to have this as a major storyline and a way to get press.

I find it odd that Emily, most likely a Baptist, would become engaged to Jef, most likely a Mormon, living in St. George, Utah which has a lot of supporters of Jeffers (now in prison, former head of the FLDS) and have a number of polygamous families living in the town. The police in the town have been charged with intimidating outsiders by Utah. St. George is not very welcoming to outsiders and I cannot see Emily and her family enjoying this town.
