Reality Steve

Bachelor Pad 3

“Bachelor Pad” Recap – Jamie is Cray Cray

As we come into the dog days of summer, there will be times where I’m only writing once a week. There’s just not a lot going on right now in regards to the “Bachelor” world. And the other reality shows don’t really kick in until September, so this is the only show that I cover right now. But for those that are new, this is usually the way it is during the summer. Once the “Bachelor” begins filming, posts will happen more frequently.

Speaking of the “Bachelor,” I can tell you that filming begins on September 15th. “That’s great and all Steve, but who is the next Bachelor?” Ahhhh, that seems to be the million dollar question right about now. I told you back in June that it was going to be Roberto. Yes, they have met and interviewed both Sean and Arie about the role as well, but I still haven’t heard anything solid enough that says it won’t be Roberto. So until I hear differently, I’ll say it’s him. Roberto is not dating anyone, that Star magazine story with quotes from that girl was all just tabloid fun, and I know he’s still talking to them as we speak. So any story that says, “It’s not Roberto because he has a girlfriend,” or “It’s not Roberto because he turned it down,” doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They’re still talking to Roberto and he’s still talking to them. I expect the official announcement to come within the next couple of weeks. If they plan on introducing the next “Bachelor” during the taping of the “Bachelor Pad” finale, then we’re looking at a little less than two weeks. If I hear differently, I’ll let you know. But this nonsense about them possibly bringing in an outsider, or even Ryan Lochte, is complete garbage. They’re just throwing that out there to get people talking. If you want my honest opinion, I don’t think Arie has a chance in hell. I’d be shocked if it’s him. I think the only way it’s not Roberto is if he got greedy, asked for too much money, and they said, “Screw you, we’ll get someone else.” If that’s the case, then it’ll be Sean. This is Roberto’s gig to lose, which is why they were after him hard 3 months ago. If he got greedy, then I bet they give it to Sean. Arie is more than a long shot. Don’t see them going with him.

ABC didn’t say “screw you” to Emily. She asked for too much money AND an astronomical clothing allowance and got both.

And she’s one of the few bachelor/ettes to be on the show who could more than afford everything on their own.

@nobody1, agreed on all counts. However, I think Bachelors & Bachelorettes are different animals.

Women are the primary audience of the entire series. There is some entertainment value derived from watching/critiquing/desiring what other women wear. With the Bachelorette, we only got one cast member wearing dresses (with a couple Shakespearian exceptions, lol). So, it made sense that Em had lots of “dramatic” wardrobe changes. On The Bachelor, we’ll have an entire cast of women to mock, err, envy. That said, I don’t think Roberto will be able to maneuver the same wardrobe allotment. Even if he changes decides to follow Jeff, Ben, and The Wolf, how much can tank tops, skinny jeans, and bermuda shorts cost?

Also, I think their decision of The Bachelorette is more important than the decision of The Bachelor. Ben was boring, but the girls’ personalities and drama made it entertaining. Boring or not, most viewers have a stronger opinion about Emily (and all the former Bachelorettes). Most viewers either think Emily is a sweet and/or feisty Southern girl, or they see her as social climber looking for $$. Stronger opinions count for more ratings & leverage on her part. Ben is just goofy Ben. Take him or leave him. Simply put, the 25 girls that go on the Bachelor will provide more ratings than the Bachelor himself. It doesn’t matter who they pick. The guy is mostly filler.

“If you’re in a ménage a tois, how many people are involved? (3)”……If my memory serves me correctly, and it may not, but I believe they asked, “If you’re in a menage a tois, how many people are you with? (2)”. Just saying.

I lasted almost to the end of this disaster, they called a game show, then I turned the channel. Are people really watching, enjoying and appreciating this show? In it’s entirety? Anyone?

Didn’t look like anything was going on in Ed’s pants on the date… he couldn’t have been more disinterested in Jaclyn. He almost looked upset about forgoing his own date.

    August 14, 2012 at 1:31 PM

Good job RS – funny stuff!

    @D-Runner – I agree!

This show is such a waste of time… don’t know why I bother watching. I guess to be thankful to my parents for teaching me how NOT to behave!

I love Kalon’s ITMs! He has an awesome sense of humor.

    August 14, 2012 at 2:28 PM

@randais – I’m not. Unless somebody watches it in the background of housecleaning or making dinner, I doubt anyone can get through it without changing the channel. It’s terrible.

Why aren’t you posting about the new reality show called Stars Earn Strips?

  9. georgiegirl

    August 14, 2012 at 3:42 PM

I think this show is SO much better than Bach/ette. They have gotten so boring that I don’t even watch them anymore. But this show is a hot mess of hilarity… 🙂

  10. randais

    August 14, 2012 at 4:54 PM

@tim – THAT’S the show I turned the channel to! That show has substance, interest, a message and is WAY more worthwhile than Trashelor Pad (such a waste of airwaves). I was so over it before the “game show” was even done I turned the channel during baseball date, actually I fell asleep DURING the date and I changed it when the fireworks woke me up. Horrible tv, trashiest show ever.

Haven’t watched and won’t. None of the “stars” hold any interest for me. Total waste of time. Thanks Steve for your usual funny commentary.

Maybe this will be the last season for this dumb show…we can only hope.

Somebody who is actually watching this show… is Jamie really THAT bad? When I saw her on the Bachelor she didn’t come across as “crazy”, just a bit naive.

From watching this show and the Bachelor/ette in the past, I have concluded that any contestant who shows vulnerability, naivety, the tendency to be easily manipulated, or cries more than once, is henceforth pegged by Steve as “crazy”.

On the other hand, Steve goes pretty light on the characters who are truly personality disordered, have major addiction problems, or are just plain evil.

And this coming from a guy who had the judgment to be FRIENDS with E.R.

As the saying goes, consider the source.

  13. vin233

    August 14, 2012 at 5:55 PM

Yes, I’ll admit it – I’ve watched each episode in it’s entirety (or near entirety…sometimes fast forward through the first few names called at the rose ceremony). *Hangs head in shame

Like some previous commenters, I find this train wreck of a show to be so disturbing that I simply can’t look away. Some of the show I’d even call entertaining! I agree – Kalon’s ITMs are freaking gold.

@wisewords – I do think Jamie is crazy. I agree that she’s very naive, but also a bit cuckoo for cocoa puffs. You’ve watched a guy make out with another girl in your bunk bed, then hooked up with the guy, agreed that him taking yet another girl on a date is the logical choice and then start spouting off about him having the qualities you’d like to see in your future husband?!? Crazy. And yes, I’m well aware that most of her voiceovers were probably taken out of sequence and shown at times to heighten the situation they were showing, but still. You’re not 16, Jamie. Don’t believe everything a guy says that’s trying to get into your (and everyone else’s) pants.

Is Stars Earn Stripes worth watching? It caught my eye because I’ve had a huuuuge crush on Dean Cane since his Superman days, but I haven’t actually turned it on yet.

    “Im a grown-ass man!”

Aw Chris Chris Chris, still trying to convince everyone you’re a man.

I’m not sure what happened on the tv showing since I had to watch this online––but when David was pitching his idea for being saved to Michael, the camera panned upward. And you could see it wasn’t even a real room. All the walls and cheesy decorations were suspended on cables. Completely not real, a fabrication set from top to bottom.

**if RS wrote about this sorry. I haven’t read his column.

And maybe it’s just super easy to see on the computer moreso than tv, but everyone looks bloated and red faced drunk. Tony is frankly the only one that looks human anymore.

  15. karynr

    August 14, 2012 at 6:25 PM

I don’t think Jamie is crazy. I think her earlier years did a real number on her. It was painful to watch her, but I think the girl just needs some serious help. I guess her dad abandoned the family when she was little, then her mom started disappearing due to drug and alcohol use when Jamie was 14. She was left in charge of 4 younger siblings. I don’t know the whole story, but know it was a hard life for her. Maybe she is stuck at 14 until she gets some help? Her upbringing obviously did not prepare her for life, as she’s so vulnerable. Chris’s cruelty towards her was mingboggling.

I’m having a hard time watching it this season. Last season, the people played a smart, strategic game. This years, it seems like they chose people who have major, major issues…….substance abuse, self-esteem….

I think this is it for me. I’ll probably watch the last two, but I find it beyond gross this time around.

  16. jessica1

    August 14, 2012 at 6:29 PM

I’ll be avoiding Stars Earn Stripes completely. It’s an affront to real military and completely twists the real effects of war. has an interview w/ military reaction to this “show”.

Love Survivor but since then, Burnett has gone rogue ultra conservative and cray-cray. Wesley Clark should be ashamed of himself.

karynr – that’s interesting perspective on jamie. And I’m w/ you on maybe having hit the limit w/ this show. It is really catering to the worst common denomination of behavior and it makes me feel icky to feed into it by watching.

I’ve only watched the first episode of BP, but I did watch the beginning of last night’s ep. Funny, b/c I, too, switched the channel to Stars Earn Stripes! Now THAT’S a good show! Loved it! I only wish I had switched sooner so i could’ve caught the beginning of it. Not watching BP anymore- well, until maybe the finale. Stars Earn Stripes will get my attention instead!

  19. kasey31

    August 14, 2012 at 9:33 PM

wow. im just getting around to watch bp.. jamie has to be the most pathetic girl ive ever seen! someone has read one too many nicholas spark’s books.. “having his big arms wrapped around me and his warm body pressed against me..” oh and then it gets worse.. “you girls might want him, but thats my man.. surprisingly wonderful” hahaha.. i cant stop rewinding this.. poor girl, but what do u expect when u give it up on the first night? so sad..

  20. karynr

    August 14, 2012 at 9:36 PM

It makes me feel icky too, Jessica. I found last night disturbing and dreamt about being in the BP house. Definitely time to stop watching! I feel like I need to take shower after watching. Most of those people are just so gross. Couldn’t they cast anyone decent this year? i guess the decent ones don’t want anything to do with BP!

    August 14, 2012 at 10:55 PM

Why does Steve seem to have such a strong negative opinion against Arie? From what I’ve seen of the guy he seems the most normal and has a good sense of humor. Who cares who he was dating before the show(all the young people Steve listed a while ago)? As long as he can settle down when he meets the right person that shouldn’t matter.

When I was first watching the Bachelorette I was all about Sean but he quickly grew very boring and his good looks couldn’t make up for it. Arie was the one who grew on me and was probably my favorite guy from the season. I think he’d make a better Bachelor than boring Sean would. Unless Sean isn’t as boring as they made him seem, which is more than possible.

  24. heliofan

    August 15, 2012 at 3:07 AM

I agree about Sean. I really liked him and thought he was good looking but he’d be dull as the bachelor. Although Ben was exciting as watching paint dry… but as someone above said, the interaction between the women was fun. I can’t imagine Sean putting up with women like on Ben’s season so I think the whole thing would be zzzzzz. Since I didn’t watch Ali’s season (she kind of got on my nerves) I don’t know what Roberto’s like. What to others think about him?

  25. heliofan

    August 15, 2012 at 3:11 AM

Whoops… what do others think about Roberto…not. “to”.

  26. karynr

    August 15, 2012 at 4:19 AM

I remember Roberta as being gorgeous, but I don’t remember a big personality. He definitely came across as sweet and kind. I had a hard time with Ali’s season because she gets on my nerves too. Though, she did end up with two fine men for F2. I loved Chris Lambton and hope he and Peyton have a happy life. It’s been years since she was left on that ship in the middle of the ocean. She help up well on BP, but she seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. Okay…now I’m rambling.

I think Fleiss/ABC would be a fool not to cast Arie. I think he’d be ratings gold. I don’t get the RS jealousy towards all these men???? Sean might be even more boring than Ben, and he can only take his shirt off so many times before boredom sets in, unless there are a bunch of fiesty women.

  27. karynr

    August 15, 2012 at 4:20 AM

Roberto….should really proof first, but it’s early!

  28. heliofan

    August 15, 2012 at 10:46 AM

I agree that Sean would need spicy women on the show but that just doesn’t seem like it would be his type. I agree with you on Arie, he’d spice things up. Also, ABC should want him. My son follows IndyCar pretty closely and he said there is a team talking to Arie about driving for them. If that be the case it would bump up the audience for the Indy 500 which ABC carries. When Helio Castroneves was on Dancing With the Stars it bumped up the 500’s audience a lot. Prolly why he was invited back as an AllStar.

  29. laney2012

    August 15, 2012 at 12:48 PM

I’ve lost interest in the show completely. When it started on Monday night, I couldn’t be bothered to turn the channel from the Lifetime movie I was watching. Think that says enough.

How on earth could Jamie be THAT naive and desperate? so convinced she is a few crayons short of the full crayola mix.

  31. justagirl

    August 15, 2012 at 7:31 PM

Why focus on Jamie and not Chris? He is the real cray cray individual OMG! Complete psycho! I actually feel sorry for Jamie because he completely played her. I also think it is interesting how differently he was edited this time around and I wonder if on Emily’s season he was this psycho and they just edited him differently. Remember how Doug or somebody was always calling him out for being immature. I see it now–totally! I am so glad that Emily didn’t pick his Polish kielbasa lol.

@sandybeache40- hahaha, a few crayons short of a crayola, ill have to use that one ; )

@justagirl- agree, chris is a complete jerk..

but come on!!! i mean, really??? theres just no exuse for how naive she is..
she is on national television, and while she might have daddy issues (someone i think said that earlier), those are issues that should have clearly been resolved before opening herself up to public scrutiny.. she really doesnt get it.. how could u allow yourself to be manipulated by a man so easily and so quickly? i dont think some girls will ever understand that sleeping with a guy so quickly is not attractive.. when u treat your body and yourself with such disrespect, how can u expect a guy to have any respect for u? granted, i had a great role model who always told me, “guys will tell u they love u for all sorts of reasons, but u need to know that no one will ever love u more than your dad..” he passed away when i was younger, and for some reason it had a huge impact on how i handled myself with men.. it does make me sad, but at her age youd think shed would know better by now.. if shes acting like this with him so quickly, i think it’s safe to say shes done this before.. probably with similar results..

  34. karynr

    August 16, 2012 at 6:00 AM

kasey, I’m going to respectfully disagree with you. But, I think you hit one of her issues on the head. You had a strong role model, which can make a huge difference in someone’s life. She didn’t. At 14, she was responsible for raising for younger siblings. Her mom started disappearing due to drug and alcohol issues. I watched a brief video of a deleted scene yesterday, where she somewhat tells Chris off after his night with Sarah. In that deleted scene she certainly had a backbone and knew not to trust another thing he said. I think it was a combination of low self-esteem and shittty editing. And she can thank Fleiss for that one. What a slimeball (as he laughs all the way to the bank). She DID let herself be used and abused and is incredibly naive and vulnerable, but hopefully she’s learned a very hard lesson. JMO!

@karynr- youre right.. i guess it’s just sad that she signed up for this with so many emotional problems! i thought they did psychological evaluations on these contestants first.. but clearly mike fleiss wouldnt care about her “emotional problems”.. thats why i say it’s sad.. i just hate to see girls act like that! i feel embarrassed for them.. hopefully she did learn her lesson, but like i said, this cant be the first guy shes done this with.. maybe this time, the lesson will stick!

    @Karyn, welcome back! 🙂

I finally got around to watching this week’s BP last night and found myself fast forwarding through more of it than normal. Next week’s looks like the challenge will at least be entertaining. Who wouldn’t laugh at these people trying to gracefully walk while trying not to drop their teacups and plates?

Hi iheartvino! Thanks for the welcome back after staying away for maybe all of one week! It’s a hard to break a habit of so many years, and RS has definitely become part of the daily repetoire during Bach shows.

kasey, Fleiss is obviously an a** with no heart. She was so painful to watch. It was brutal. But, especially for her. My heart really breaks for her and I hope she has some strong support. I suspect you’re right about it happening before, as she has a problem reading what I call people cues, especially with men. I remember being like that a little bit when I was her age, but definitely not as naive and vulnerable! And I hope Chris gets karma back tenfold! What an SOB. I like how Chris H. and Stag’s blogs really made it crystal clear, he is a big ahole!

I enjoy reading your recaps even though I watch the show. It gives me another perspective on ABC. Where do you get all your sources and info from?

  41. sandybeaches40

    August 16, 2012 at 5:02 PM

I agree – Chris is a slime ball – and should be held responsible for his actions. I also think that anyone who thinks they’re in love after two days together is indeed a bit on the CRAZY side, as well as naive and desperate. You may have great chemistry, but how do you know you’ve met your soul mate and the man you’re sure you’re meant to be with when you’ve only spent 2 days with them, oh, wait – 2 days and 2 nights, let’s not forget the crazy nights!

  42. jann

    August 16, 2012 at 9:42 PM

It is said that contestants do take a psychological evaluation, but no one has said WHAT exactly they are looking for in that exam. Obviously they are not screening OUT the mentally disturbed…
