The “Bachelor Pad” Recap Including Arie’s Press Release

Let’s get to the biggest news that’s happened since last Thursday’s column, which was Arie issuing a press release to say he’s not going to be the “Bachelor,” and that he will be focusing on his racing career. Which wasn’t really news to anyone who’s followed this site for the last month, but hey, whatever floats your boat. That’s what we call in the media a spin job. Arie did not choose racing over being the “Bachelor.” He wanted to be the “Bachelor.” And he would’ve taken it if they said to him, “We don’t want anyone else to be the Bachelor, we want you Arie. Sign on, lets get this thing done.” Sure, he met with producers and they discussed it, so he was a candidate. But so did others. Like they do every season where they interview people who have no chance of ever getting the gig. It’s not like it was his gig and he said, “Nah, I’m gonna go focus on racing.” Quite the opposite actually. If they absolutely 100% wanted Arie to be the next Bachelor, Arie would’ve been the next Bachelor. They didn’t, so he’s not. I don’t expect the Arie lunatics to believe me and I don’t care. That’s fine. It’s because they don’t know the truth. Look at the bright side, in the end, it’s a win-win for everyone. We don’t have to see Arie as the “Bachelor,” and his whole purpose for going on the “Bachelorette” in the first place was to gain exposure so he could start racing again, and that’s exactly what he accomplished. So we all win. Yippee.

The other thing brought to my attention since Thursday is Kalon on his conference call with the media last week saying he and Lindzi are definitely still together and not to listen to tabloids. Whatever you say, bud. Are Kalon and Lindzi still close? Yes. Are Kalon and Lindzi attracted to each other? Absolutely. Have Kalon and Lindzi spent a lot of time together since the show ended? Yep. When you see them on the finale next week will they say they’re still together? Yes again. Are they friends with benefits? Without a doubt. I’m just here to tell you that they are not a couple. You gotta remember, we’re dealing with people in this franchise. Putting a label on these “couples” is pretty much impossible. Outside of ones that are married or engaged, or ones that are living together or have been together for over a year, it’s basically impossible to believe any labels any of them give their relationships. So no, Kalon and Lindzi are not in an exclusive, 1-on-1, monogamous relationship. I don’t know why he’s pretending publicly that they are.

There will be no live video blog this Thursday again because I’m out of town in Vegas for my annual football weekend. This now makes it 15 of the last 17 years I’ve done this. I’m just kinda throwing this out there now to whoever my future wife will be, just know that this weekend doesn’t end once we’re married. It’s kind of turned into tradition, so, just like I’ll let you have your girls night outs and girls weekend whenever you want, this is my one weekend of the year that’s been a mainstay since college. Just wanted to throw that out there. But I will post a column with “Reader Emails,” and “Dr. Reality Steve” before I leave Thursday, so get your questions in the next 36 hours or so if you want it read. On to last night…

I was at the taping for the Night Rider challenge, and I just have to say that Jaclyn and Ed’s performance was exactly what you saw last night. They literally didn’t sing the first huge chunk of the song and kept asking to start over. But the producers made them keep going. Then after it, they gave them a chance to try it again and Jaclyn and Ed turned it down. So I’m not sure why they are complaining!? Just wanted to clear that up!

Nick is a jerk. Not impressed by his “strategy” and “skill at playing the game” at all.
Hey, Hulk, this is a game that you need a partner for.. to get the top, to even stay in the game.. and you blew it!
    Rachel got you there.
No ethics, no morals. A loser.

lisa e, I hardly think Nick blew anything considering the spoiled outcome! If Rachel cared that much she could have put up a fight to keep Jaclyn/Ed.

    @Lisa e, I agree. I cannot stand Nick.
Someone who had to ride coattails to win DOES NOT deserve it. & He looked like an idiot during the performance. I find him uber annoying. I’m not even a Rachel fan, but I feel for her

Didn’t Steve say kalen and Lindzi “broke up” last week, meaning were at on point together, but no more??? Now he takes it back and re-words because he was proven wrong. Sheesh.

hmm I have to think rather Rachel got him there or not it alot of money to give to someone you don’t really know. Not sure if I was given that choice I would not have made the same decision and kept the cash. Also Rachel and Nick where not partners till the very end.

Is Steve really blabbing out where another spoiler site is getting their info from?? I think he’s just jealous someone is putting info out before Oh Holy Steve gets it and is trying to divert the attention away from him harrassing and paying contestants. What a dick, lunatic, idiot, perverted, scum bag. But thanks for the free info 🙂

I’d be happy to take as many trips in my lifetime as Steve takes in one year!

I’ve never cared one way or another about Rachel, but wow, is she getting a bum deal. I can’t help but feel for her. She ends up with a random partner, who convinces her to vote out her best friend and then screws her over by keeping all of the money. On top of that, Michael was leading her on the whole time and (from the looks of the previews) ends up acting like a smug jerk about it. At least she and Jaclyn were able to mend their friendship.

How do we know for sure that Kalon and Lindzi aren’t together? Because Kalon was being flirty at a bar or something? Maybe there was something more substantial and I missed it…but flirting with other girls is hardly proof that he’s not dating Lindzi. Lots of guys flirt with other girls (and vice versa) despite being in a relationship or even married.

I for one am really disappointed that Arie isn’t the next Bachelor. After Ben and Emily–two leads I didn’t care for–I’m kind of tired of watching just for the drama between contestants. I was hoping for a lead I could root for this time…oh well :/

Right after last night’s sleazefest ended, I was in the Rachel camp, but changed my mind shortly after. I think, strategically, they had to bring Chris and Sarah to the finals. That secured them the final two, due to how much Chris is disliked in the house. By bringing Ed and Jaclyn, they were risking the $250K. At that point, I think Nick already knew what he was going to do at the end, and he was risking the money by bringing E & J. There’s no way he was going to risk it once it was in sight. I do have to give Rachel credit for partnering with Nick on that performance. They set the bar high (which obvously wasn’t hard to do) and, again, played smartly. I attribute that to both of them, but the decision about Jaclyn and Ed had to be made. I’m glad to hear their friendship is doing well, though I don’t care for either one of them. I really like Michael, and think his core values and morals seem strong, but he made a mistake with Rachel with Rachel.

I’m still bummed about Arie. IMO he would have been so much more dynamic than Sean and Roberto.

Are Chris and Sarah totally delusional people? Is she delusional only because she’s hooked up with a delusional person? She agrees with every damn thing he says. It’s all “awesome.” I have a feeling in Chris’s tiny db brain, that’s how it should be. He has to be the most unlikeable reality show contestant ever….IMO.

What’s up, Steve? Good recap, but you don’t sound like you had any fun doing it – you just sound pissed off. I hope your football-trip lifts your spirits.
Best lines of the night (yes, I wrote them down):
Chris: Getting ready for the question & answer competition. “We had to spell words and we had to carry teacups. We deserve to win this.” Of course you do, Chris, after all the hardship you’ve had to go through!
Blakely, on being turfed with Tony: “No one needed the money more than we did.” Poor, poor penniless Blakely & Tony. My heart aches!
Who said it? I can’t remember, but as the limo is pulling up to the palladium, one of the guys observes how incredible it is with “all those fans” waiting for them. “All those fans”? There were – maybe – 10 (probably paid) people there! With the camera focused so tightly on them, it may as well have been a girdle.
Mouthpiece Chris H, talking about the song Sister Christian: ” … the most awesome rock anthem ever!”
Who said it? I can’t remember, but someone described Sarah’s dancing as resembling a “gyrating monkey being electrocuted.” <— That has got to be the best line of the night!
And, finally, Mouthpiece Chris H. – probably soiling his pants in excitement as he says about next week's show: "It's the most exciting and DISTURBING finale ever!"
I just love to hate this show!
P.S. to readformindlessentertainmentandnothingelse: Is your real name Mike Fleiss or Erica Rose?

I haven’t been watching BP this season, but I wanted to see if Steve knew the new bachelor yet. Read his recap of this episode since it was a short recap, and I suppose I’ll watch the finale since it’s suppose to be different than the last two seasons. Since BP is about winning money and not about love (although it seems like some have found that), I find it refreshing that someone cane from behind to win. I usually route for the underdog, so if Nick was lucky enough and smart enough to prevail, good for him. At least the finale will be different. As far as the next bachelor, I’m disappointed that it’s not Arie, but I do think it’ll be fun watching Roberto (he’s adorable and hot) or Sean (he’ll be fine to watch if his shirt is off). Anyone is better than Ben was. That was the most boring bachelor to watch since Lorenzo. Awful!

I don’t think Nick owes Rachel anything. Yeah she got a bum deal between not getting the guy or the money, but Nick was doing the smart thing in making her choose Chris & Sarah. There is pretty much no way they’d win against Jaclyn and Ed – everyone liked them.

  15. txblueyes86

    September 4, 2012 at 4:54 PM

Has anyone else noticed the incredible amount of times they are showing birds/hawks? It seems like one camera guy just went around one day shooting as many birds as he could and the producers were like “welp, better to use the film than to waste it.” Just kind of weird.

I think how BP ends completely sucks for Rachel, but at the same time, Nick’s story hasn’t changed… he’s there to win $250K. He would have been stupid to let her think that was his plan, and he didn’t really owe her anything. In fact, he could easily go years without seeing any of the people on the show so who cares?? Was it kind of a jerk thing to do? Sure, but won’t be the first or last time people do things for their own benefit and no one else’s. PS – Rachel, lose the bangs! She looks gorgeous with them pulled back!

I like reading Steve’s site and spoilers and I am usually pretty entertained, but it’s getting more and more difficult to read around the “let me remind you how right I am,” “I know I told you last week that so-and-so broke up but I didn’t mean they ACTUALLY broke up because there was no breaking up to be done” and some of the other eye-rolling things. Meh, he’s said it better than I can – if I don’t like it I don’t have to read it. I just wish it was more funny/spoilers/info and less of the ego-trip stuff… used to be a lot more fun to read. Oh well, keep on spoiling, Steve.

    September 4, 2012 at 6:13 PM

@txblueyes It seems to be the same shot of the hawk they’ve been using in every episode of BP this season. I don’t know if its some kind of inside joke with the cast/crew, but it does seem odd that they keep showing it.

  17. msangie

    September 4, 2012 at 6:31 PM

I’m glad Nick took it all — it made Chris look like an even bigger loser. How many times this season did we hear Chris say that he deserved this or that (being there, winning,…). In the early episodes Chris (along with Erica as I recall) was even saying “this is our house” to mean that the “fan” contestants didn’t deserve to be there.
The only way I’d have no respect for Nick would be if he maintained ties with this franchise and “family.” I have no sympathy for Rachel. She can always come back next season.

  18. msangie

    September 4, 2012 at 6:52 PM

How about finally giving Chris Harrison credit where credit is due? Night Ranger asked whether the couples would be any good, to which Chris replies, “no, there going to be terrible.” But of course that’s exactly why the producers would have such a competition.

I don’t understand why so many see Ed as so likeable. He started out the season as an irritating drunken fool, showed himself to be less than useless in the sundae obstacle course, rarely had anything worthwhile to say, and probably should have gotten drunk for the last competition – he couldn’t have done any worse than he did.

  19. justagirl

    September 4, 2012 at 7:01 PM

If Rachel and Nick had actually taken Jaclyn and Ed to the finals, we all know that Jaclyn would’ve said “share” and Ed would have picked “keep.” You could see it in Ed’s facial expressions in the preview that he was pleased for Nick and prob would’ve done the same thing.

yea, i have to say i have been a fan of steve’s for quite a long time now, and ive tried giving him the benefit of the doubt many times.. i dont care anymore who he is as a person, but i agree with everyone else on here.. steve is becoming so self centered and obnoxious with the “i told you so’s, and dont believe them, believe me” constantly insulting and talking down to his readers.. it’s getting old.. and then when hes wrong, he just briefly mentions it, blames it on someone else, or doesnt mention it at all.. and then hes talking to his “future wife” on his blogs? i think any girl who has any self respect would run for the hills if his personality resembled anything close to his writing or how he treats his “fans”

ill always appreciate the fact that he gets the spoilers and all, but i just miss the way he used to write.. it was much more fun and entertaining to read.. he used to crack me up with his recaps.. he seemed to really enjoy what he was doing in previous seasons and it was reflected in his writing.. lately he just seems angry and bitter- like someone is FORCING him to write these blogs..

and whats up with him calling out that website on where they get their sources? that was just weird and pretty random..

Yeah, I wish Steve could seem to have some more fun with what he’s doing . . . There is too much patting himself on the back–we get it, dude. This is the second or third recap where he’s like, who cares about recapping this when you already know the spoilers? Well, granted this show is WAY more lame than the original Bach/Bachelorette franchise, but what’s wrong with just recapping it and not saying how un-fun it is to recap it? I can think of worse ways to make a living, ha.

I hope they kill Bach Pad after this season. It’s nearly unwatchable. I put it on mute and read a book for most of it; the only remotely (and really stretching it) interesting part of it is the social game. The challenges are simply embarrassing. The whole thing seems pretty dirty and degrading.

Out of the three rumored to be the next Bach, I was most interested in seeing Arie, but I guess I’d prefer Sean over Roberto. I think either might be boring, Sean slightly less so. Or you know, they could actually go with an unknown!

  22. kasey31

    September 4, 2012 at 10:42 PM

@elizabeth82- ha, right?? what a terrible job! life must be rough.. and regarding the whole bachelor situation, i wish it had been arie, too.. it would have been much more entertaining.. roberto? i barely remember him now.. i guess sean would be ok, but i wouldnt be mad if they picked an unknown.. but as steve would say, “i’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again, not gonna happen so stop asking. dont you people get? apparently not. i blame your parents.” haha..

Like I’ve mentioned before, BP lost my interest, episode 1. Trashiest show ever produced/aired and the recaps are not helping, they are so full of boasting and self congratulatory mentions, they aren’t even enjoyable or entertaining anymore. I do NOT miss the vlogs either, they were/are the BIGGEST snooze fest ever….just more of the same egotistical gloating and the “Dr. Steve emails” are easily the worst idea I’ve ever read. Who in their right mind would ask RS for dating/romantic advice? I don’t even bother anymore, I stop after skimming the blog. So why even come here? Still holding out hope to read the occasional/infrequent/rare spoiler that happens every once in a blue moon, I guess :\.

  25. steffy

Steve with a woman? When he had that lady from NYC on giving dating advice she all but said he was hopeless in the dating arena. I would never date the egotistical snob. I think his over inflated ego comes from lack of self esteem. When you work and live your life on a computer its easy to be a gloat telling everyone how great he is. Brad Paisley did the perfect video for RS, “Online”.

He either knows his days are numbered before he gets caught again or he really doesn’t care. If he’s going to be traveling so much on the readers dime then he should do his video blog on Wednesdays instead of blowing them off.

Did anyone happen to see yesterday’s epidose of The Chew with guest Chris Harrison? He, himself, was pretty much making fun of BP and called it a “dumpster fire”! He actually seemed like a very likable and funny guy when he isn’t having to read his scripted messages to the BP contestants.

    @txblueyes86, @kasey31, @elizabeth82, @randais,
DITTO on all counts. This blog is so pointless anymore. He literally used half of this entry to talk about how right he is about everything, and at only 3 pages long, there wasn’t much else to read. All of this boasting is really unappealing and unattractive. Someone needs to learn a little humility.

I love Steve’s spoilers but I agree with what everyone is saying. Steve is always patting himself on the back. Also, he is so repetitive and wordy. Don’t know anything about how he is paid, but it seems like it’s by the word.

  29. hotchacha

    September 5, 2012 at 10:07 AM

The future wife shout out is laughable. I’m not going to snark on Steve’s looks but he needs to have a much nicer, more interesting personality to make up for his, er, nevermind.

Here’s the thing: this is what he’s chosen to do. Either do it well or find a new line of work. Someone will eventually fill the void he’d leave. It’s obnoxious and insulting that so many people donated $ to him, so many people are out of work, and here he is half-assing his blog and acting above everyone. He’s finally turning on the past & present contestants, too, if you’ll notice. I imagine even they are sick of his bs schtick.

I think everyone has made some valid points, especially about how it’s annoying when you can tell by reading Steve’s column that he’d rather be doing practically anything else.

Regarding the next Bachelor, I was hoping it would have been Arie, but believed Steve must have had some insider info in why it wouldn’t be him. I’m not crazy about Roberto or Sean. Sean’s nice to look at, and hopefully he’d show more of a personality during his season if it’s him. I’d probably rather watch Sean, unless they can somehow get Roberto’s hideous excessive sweating problem under control. 🙂 His sweat stains in his underarms during Ali’s season grossed me out. I get they were filming in hot, humid places, but none of the other guys had nasty sweat stains showing on their dress shirts.

Regardless of who they choose, I hope Steve is able to leak it before it gets released by ABC!

Everyone who’s been around here for awhile knows I love Steve these days. 🙂 BUT you guys are right that this blog & the last several have been not only too wordy & repetitive, but also full of nothing but bitterness toward…. well, toward almost everything.. What isn’t bitter is just Steve repeating over & over how right he is on everything- even when he’s wrong, he still somehow twists the story or ignores the story until he’s right.. Steve, I know you’ve got the sense of humor down in there somewhere, time to pull it out & use it.

@ccrider Chris Harrison also co hosted Live with Kelly for a few shows. He seemed like a completely different person then what we are used to on the show. I was kind of hoping he would be picked for her co-host, as he was kind of fun to watch with her.

I agree, the bitterness is bleeding through the entire blog these days. Making fun of the show is one thing–actually, it’s what used to bring me here every Tuesday–but now Steve seems to not only hate the show, but anyone who watches it, talks about it, thinks about it, including his readers.

Which is irritating because, whether you like the show or not, this seems like a dream job. He watches TV and writes about it. If and when he feels like it. No working holidays, no inconvenient hours. I’ve been looking for a job for a long time, and let me tell you, if I could earn a living blogging a few hours a week on ANY show, I’d be ecstatic. Heck, I’d recap that craphole ‘Honey Boo Boo’ if it meant I’d earn enough to travel the country all the time like Steve does. If I found myself in any legal trouble, I could always just ask my readers for donations!

Oh, and hotchacha, I may be a terrible person, but your first paragraph made me laugh!

It’s really no ones business how many trips Steve takes in a year~that he writes a blog, has a following, and volunteers this information because he won’t be posting at his usual time is showing courtesy to his fan base. He DOESN’T HAVE to explain where he is going or what he is doing. Granted, it comes off as back patting in text, but for people who are showing up to read the sight for the first time, it becomes a hook to keep them coming back for more. Why are ANY of us still here?? Steve has returned to his funny sarcastic self and THAT was why so many followed him in the first place…the jest he pokes at the lunacy of this whole “reality” tv franchise.
I mean, “half expected glow sticks in her mouth like a teenager on X at a Rave” regarding Sarah’s gyrating without any beat in those spandex pants that slid down and created an unattractive “boxy” look (pun intended) in the front….girls you know what I am saying here!! THAT is funny!!
Leave the guy alone~he isn’t married (and I appreciated his caveat to his future wife) he has no children expect Maddie….let him live his life without judgement from a bunch of “virtual strangers”.
As for Nick~well I have always rooted for the underdogs.
This is like one of the nerds beating out all of the “cool” in crowders, so PROPS to him!!

gotoperson – I completely agree; the previews of the shocked faces can only be about the “Keep” vote that Nick casts! If it’s about the wedding proposal, I think we’d see different expressions. Like snickering.

Re: Rachel voting to “share”. It seemed to me that was her only real option. I don’t think she’s an idiot for casting her choice to share. Nick has more of a gambling thought process; she had more of a “we actually made it here, lets’ both walk away w/ something in our pocket”.

On a totally different topic but about how this show is so freakin’ scripted: did any one notice this on Kalon & Lindzi’s date on the bridge. (I know, it was a long time ago).

But at the end of the date and Kalon was talking to her about his *feelings*, there was a shot of her and the camera angle included the background. And I clearly saw a posterboard being held up, a CUE CARD, with a sentence written on it that include the word HOPE or HOPEFUL.

Did anyone else see that gaffe?!? I was surprised RS didn’t mention how they were feeding Kalon a line….guess RS was ….. busy….playing with his Frosty Paw.

@Tammyindiana, this is a comments section. There’s nothing wrong with people expressing their opinions about Steve’s writing style. It’s a fact that it has changed a bit again, and we’re simply acknowledging that.

I agree with you that it’s nobody’s business where or when he travels and I do appreciate the heads up so I can know if there may not be a column or video blog.

But by being a blogger for his profession, Steve knows that he’s putting himself out there for criticism, constructive or not. Those of us that are noting that he seems bitter now have also been quick to applaud him when he has written funnier and less angry recaps, too.

  42. randais

    September 5, 2012 at 5:26 PM

@Tammy….I don’t remember ANYONE asking RS if he’s traveling, where he’s going, why he’s going. He VOLUNTEERED that information. He told us with zero prompting from anyone, while I couldn’t care less, he has, in fact, made it our business…or at least anyone’s business who gives a flip. And because I don’t give a “flip”, I didn’t comment on it before and won’t now. Just disagree with you is all.

I also disagree that he’s funny. Perhaps the “funny” might be more obvious to some of us, if he didn’t distract us so much with the constant self adulation.

  43. Meghan

    September 5, 2012 at 5:56 PM

@tammy, I guess the traveling bit was directed at me. Yes, I commented on Steve’s traveling habits. HE puts these things in his blog, making them fair game for commenting. For the record, my comment was made in relation to Steve’s attitude toward his job and his readers, which pay his bills. Meaning, it’d be nice if he put a little more effort into his blogs and a little less self-congratulating.

Why do I keep coming back? Lord only knows.

The episode: so much douchebagginess. OMG, where to start? Chris thinks he can sing! Did you see him flipping his hands around during rehearsals when he was belting out Sister Christian. He thinks he is DA SHIT! HAHAHAHAHA!!!. Ed’s comments about the fans. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!. Blakely crying like her first child just died. OMG!!! Who ARE these people??? So much wastes of food.

I have been following this site for a number of years, and I have to agree with many of the posters. The recaps are not nearly as funny as when I first started reading, and the amount of bitterness and self-congratulating has risen 10 fold. I will continue to follow because of the spoilers, but skip the recaps. If you want a really funny recap google “Jen Frase. Stuff I probably shouldn’t say out loud.” She is a riot.

I hope Steve is able to get the ego under control and get back to the funny snarky guy he was a few years ago.

This is similar to when Steve comments about all of the contestants who complain about their edit on the show…or complain about the backlash they receive after the show airs. He always says “you signed up for this show, you knew what you were getting yourself into”. Steve is no different…he writes this blog, he puts himself out there on the internet in a very public forum. Therefore, people may disagree or criticize. It happens. When he writes like an a-hole, people are going to call him out on it. Steve will always respond that he doesn’t care, we don’t know him. So be it. I’m just giving my opinion like he gives his opinion in his columns. I’ve been trying to give Steve the benefit of the doubt after all the craziness that went down in the past few weeks/months (not that we need to open that can of worms again), but then he writes another gem like this column and I can’t help but get annoyed with myself that I keep coming back here. Steve can be so disrespectful towards his readers, so I don’t know why I continue to contribute towards his page views.

P.S. Peawry…you’re comment “Who are these people? So much wastes of food.” made me laugh much harder than anything Steve wrote.

I, too, used to be a regular on this site. I would visit every day, reading blogs by RS and comments by everyone else. I would respond quite often too.

As of about 2-3 weeks ago, I’ve lost almost all interest in this site. I haven’t watched BP in 2 weeks, mostly because I forgot it was coming on. I’ve stopped by here on Tues & Thurs to read the blogs, but I haven’t seen much worth even commenting on lately.

Point being….if Steve is paid by the “click”, then he’s lost quite a few payments from my lack of visits.

Why do you tell people on your Blog where you are going? It opens your up to people criticizing you, Do you want that? If I had a site, I would never tell anyone about my life because it’s My Life….Just Saying!!
