“Reader Emails,” & the Premiere of “Burning Love” Season 2

Gonna start the column with a “Happy Valentines Day,” and ironically enough, gonna end it with one after a very special email was sent. I’m not really one to complain about Valentine’s Day because I’m dateless or whatever. It is what it is. Sure, the tweets and Facebook posts from people in a relationship who feel the need to tell us what their significant other did for them is annoying today, but you know what, it’s annoying every day when people do that. So no need to just single out this day. Great, he bought you flowers. Why do you feel the need to push your relationship on other people? The more people use social media to talk about their personal/love life, the bigger turn off it is. If you’re in love, great. That’s wonderful. But the more you tell people how wonderful your life is and how in love you are, the more I just think that it’s not as great as it actually is, and you’re just trying to convince yourself otherwise. I’ve always thought that. Just my two cents.

And what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with premiere episode of “Burning Love,” season 2. Enjoy…

Anything that makes fun of this franchise as detailed and spot on as this is, I’m all for. Loved the limo exits that were jabs at Kalon, Jef, and even Wes’ character. Great stuff. Last season, they did 2 episodes a week. Not sure what their schedule is this season, but I’ll post every new episode in future columns.

Good thing I updated everyone on Tuesday about the conflicting reports regarding Tierra’s engagement. I knew something was up because although I had people telling me it wasn’t an engagement, there were others that were saying she was engaged, and it was confirmed by her brother Tyler yesterday to But as I said, I’m done talking about this girls personal life. I don’t think anyone in America thinks that Tierra either A) will actually end up marrying this guy or B) will marry him and stay married to him for the rest of her life. So yeah, you might wanna get that giant crow ready on the grill Tierra for the comment you made about AshLee being 32 and single. Something tells me you’ll be 32 and divorced (at least once), or 32 with a broken engagement under your belt. Or five.

Also yesterday, in the least surprising news in “Bachelor” history, it was officially reported In Touch Magazine that Arie and Selma are dating. Now, you might say we don’t know for sure because neither of them are quoted in the story confirming it, but trust me, it’s true. That’s why I told you on Tuesday that their Twitter flirting was much more than that. I’d been made aware these two have already seen each other more than once while the show was airing, and the twitter flirting was just a way to set people up for their announcement at some point. Do you think if Selma Alameri was never on Sean’s season Arie would be dating her? Of course not. Same thing with his fling with Courtney. The second someone else comes around with more notoriety who can keep his name out there, he’ll move on to her. It’s quite obvious what he’s doing. Sad. Anyone who just continually dates inside the franchise is doing it for one reason and one reason only. So media outlets will talk about them and keep them relevant. I’d say this about anyone who continutally dates within the franchise, and not just Arie. It’s just that Arie has now had two high profile girls within the franchise in a span of 4 months that were lead stories on tabloid sites. Nobody buys it anymore.

Another great blog by Ali Fedotowsky yesterday for E! Online. There are plenty of former contestants who do recaps of the show right now, but Ali’s is by far the best because she has been so candid. Maybe it’s because she’s so far removed from the show now and is under contract with someone else that she can say this, but, there isn’t a single past contestant (lead or otherwise) that has ever spoken this open about the show. And I love it. The ones who write blogs now (and I’ve only glanced at a few) obviously don’t want to say the things that Ali does for fear of pissing someone off. They don’t want to burn any bridges for future possible appearances, “Bachelor Pad” gigs, reunion attendances, etc. So although some of their recaps are funny, they won’t give much behind-the-scenes stuff. Keeping firing away, Ali. This is fun. I think this was my favorite part of this week’s blog:

“I’m not surprised that AshLee got a one-on-one date this week. I don’t think Sean is super into her, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t take her on a one-on-one date at this point. Especially when he doesn’t have to give her a rose at the end of the date. I want to make it clear that just because someone gets a one-on-one date doesn’t necessarily mean that Sean is super into that person. He can’t keep going on one-on-ones with the same few people—something that probably isn’t that clear to fans watching at home. The contestants think the dates are picked with tons of thought behind them. They aren’t. It’s mostly going through a list.

Or this…

“…I always take it as a sign that chemistry isn’t there when on a date the only thing the bachelor and the girl talk about is how “great” it is and how much “fun” they are having. Instead of actually having fun and talking about other things. I say this because that is what I used to do on my season when I had nothing else to say. You don’t want to just awkwardly sit there. So you have to come up with something to say. “This is amazing” is a good go-to phrase.”

Bam! Take that! That’s the kind of insight you want from people who were on the show. In the past, in fact last season, Ali’s blog bored me because it didn’t offer any new insight into the show. Now? Ali’s blog is a must-read this season for people who like to hear about the inner workings. She’s been saying stuff like this all season.

Thanks to the NY Post for covering the lawsuit in a column today. The more attention that’s brought to this, the more people will begin to see how this is essentially corporate bullying on their part.

And finally, with the premiere of “Survivor: Fans vs Favorites” last night, our recapper Scott Ottersen is now back writing. Check out last night’s recap here

    Sean’s website is

Let me just say that if I needed a purse, I could find these at Forever XXI and if I needed some furniture, I could go to a garage sale and buy a can of spray paint.

    Good luck guys.

Did y’all see the commercials for The Following? 11 NEW episodes ALL IN A ROW…11 weeks! That has to be some kind of record right?

Lucky – welcome to the Revenge train.

Biggest Loser, Deception and The Following tonight although I’m losing interest in Deception. :\

Saw the commercials for The Following! Obviously the show is a hit for them to issue 11 episodes in a row! Glad the suspense will be continuing.

Missed Revenge as I was watching the wonderful Killing Lincoln made for TV movie. Having read the book, was pleased the events followed the book and with Tom Hanks narrating, it was even better.

Will watch Revenge tonight On Demand. It’s okay that I know the outcome already. Still an incredibly good show.

And the young lady Steve was touting on American Idol is indeed wonderful. What a voice. There are so many strong females this year…have high hopes we’ll have a girl winner.

Okay that cupcake scene at the very end was too funny. And Sean missed the perfect opportunity to say “that’s what she said” after Lindsay held up the cupcake and asked how she was going to fit that in her mouth.

In all seriousness though, this episode had to have been rough for Catherine to watch. I mean really- only two weeks/dates left and he was on the fence at that point about the girl he ends up picking? Ouch. I’m guessing he and Catherine talk a lot more on the overnights episode and maybe that’s when he gets some clarity.

i am so confused by tongiht’s episode.. it seems very odd that sean was so seemingly torn between catherine and des only a couple of weeks prior to him proposing to her! it must have been tough for catherine watching tonight’s show.

I’m hoping that Steve gives us some clarification on the whole Catherine situation.

I don’t understand the whole process of asking blessing from the parents? It’s misleading!!! The bachelor has other girls somewhere, and he may not pick the girl in the final rose.

I agree w\ the above comments about him not being so sure about Catherine after the home towns. I still don’t “get it” with them. He seems to have better chemistry w\ AshLee and Lindsey…. I hate to say it but they may be engaged now but I bet they will NEVER get married.

I didn’t watch…but the whole “blessings” thing has been in the script of this show for many years. Just the standard crap like “here for the right reasons” she is “amazing”, etc. But Seanie sure shows us how dense he is when he continues to repeat “I’m crazy about (insert name)”.

I can only speculate that when Seanie says he is torn between Des and Catherine, the producers have instructed him to do so for more suspense. This could be in a vane attempt to discredit RS for his accurate spoiler of Catherine as final one.

Look forward, as always, to RS’s blog today.

Sunny, maybe you’re right about your speculation. Watching the show last night almost made me believe that Sean was going to send Cat home and that RS was wrong. Hah!!

I wondered whether the whole vacillation on Des vs. Catherine was contrived after the fact. The shots back and forth could have been edited & they could have had Sean place the rose down on another edit. Maybe not, but anything is possible with this show.

    February 19, 2013 at 8:14 AM

One thing that’s for sure. Des will be thanking her idiot brother at some point when everyone’s killing Sean and Catherine on the blogs and in the media for their inevitable breakup. Even thought the brother was a total tool, he wasn’t wrong that eventually Des would be dumped and heartbroken. That’s been true for 100% of the Bachelor girls to this point.

From what I have seen, Sean does seem to be the most sincere Bachelor they’ve ever had, and he does seem different than the rest. In the voiceover where he said he wasn’t sure who to send home, I thought it was just fine editing at its best and that he could have said that at a point way earlier in the season. But then when he was sitting there with Chris (in the same shirt/tie he had on at the rose ceremony) and we could actually see him saying he was torn between Des and Catherine, it’s hard to say that was spliced together, especially since the camera stayed on him continuously for more than that one statement. Maybe I have the wool over my eyes, but I’d like to think Sean wouldn’t go for that producer manipulation and flat out lie and say he was torn between the two of them just for drama purposes when he knew all along he was going to keep Catherine. I don’t know. I hope not, anyway.

I hope Steve can give some clarification on that too!

    **The Following**
GREAT episode! While I find some episodes containing a few more predictable moments, I still can NOT stop watching.

Joey seems to be the star of this weeks show. He’s fighting like crazy to get home. I was skeptical of the “neighbors”, I would have sworn they were “followers”, but that thought was quickly shot down, such a sad ending for them. I have to question Jacob’s involvement though. He was there but they only show Paul entering the home.

They introduce us to two new followers, Hank and Broderick. Hank is dispatched to the farmhouse where “The 3” have set up housekeeping, to help them evacuate and relocate. Broderick’s task is to abduct Joey’s mom. One accomplishes his task the other is taken out by Ryan, our hero.

How about Olivia’s missing fingers? No wonder she’s terrified of Joe, clearly he has her under his control. What a shocker that this episode ends with no ending…hate that. They captured Ryan AND Joey’s mom, not looking good and leaves me wanting to see next weeks show NOW.

This whole “Megan” thing, keeping her in the basement until Jacob agrees to kill her is bizarre, ok so that works :D. But really, just not buying that.

My take on something Bachelor, I am completely UNinvested in this show, so I can not intelligently engage in conversations regarding it BUT as a parent of a young woman, I would NEVER give my blessing to a man who is dating other women while dating my daughter. In my opinion, that has to be one of the most ridiculous aspects of this show. At best, I’d tell him to call me when he decides he wants to propose and ask me then.
