The Bachelorette 10 - Andi

The “Bachelorette” Andi Recap Including Your “Bachelor In Paradise” Info & a Review of Courtney Robertson’s Book

Big week coming up. Yes, I’m another year older come Saturday. Man, I am one old f**k now. Don’t remind me. Not that I’m having some sort of mid life crisis or anything, but time sure does fly. With that though means I’ll be back in CA this week, and Olivia and Nicholas will be joining me for the last half hour of Thursday’s live video chat. It should be amazing to hear them call each other poopyhead the whole time. But hey, get your questions in early cuz they’re excited. Nicholas even has his end of the year 1st grade school play I’ll be attending Thursday afternoon. Oh, this should be good. Maybe I’ll have him recite some lines for you. Anyway, look forward to that later this week. Today before we get to your recap, I’ve got last night’s ratings, a minor change in schedule, one of Andi’s guys formerly on the “Price is Right,” the LA Times bans a reporter from covering their show because they were “too negative,” and all the “Bachelor in Paradise” info I have for you. Then on page 2 is my review of Courtney Robertson’s new book, which is being released June 24th.

Get your “Reader Emails” and “Dr. Reality Steve” emails in the next 48 hours as Thursday’s column is already starting to fill up with some goodies. There’s a “Dr. Reality Steve” email that I still can’t believe someone wrote me. Hey, I’ll answer anything. Within reason of course, so bring it on. Look forward to your emails.

Remember last season when Lauren Solomon had previously been on three previous game shows, including “Minute to Win It?” Well, we found our former game show contestant from Andi’s season, and it’s JJ O’Brien. And it’s magical.

How do you not love the absolute fake over-excitement on his part? It’s killing me. I know those contestants are told to act excited, but JJ hopped around up there like he just slammed a bottle of Jessie Spano’s caffeine pills and chased it with a case of Red Bull. Well played, JJ. The best part is you could tell he went on the show with the purpose of acting like that, owned it, then laughed at it with his buddies when it aired later. Genius.

As previewed at the end of last night’s show, episode 3 in Santa Barbara airs Sunday night, followed by episode 4 in Connecticut next Monday. This doesn’t throw the schedule off at all since they are going to run a repeat the following Monday, June 9th. Why? Well, it looks like because Diane Sawyer scored a 1 hr interview with Hillary Clinton that ABC is airing on the 9th. I initially thought this may have been their way to honor Eric by taking a week off after his final episode aired (episode 4), but it looks to be because of the Clinton interview since they’d have 4 hours of programming with only 3 hours allotted time since “Mistresses” can’t be moved. Whatever the case, only episodes 3 and 4 are affected. Instead of running next Monday, episode 3 airs Sunday night. And instead of running on the 9th, episode 4 gets moved up a week and runs next Monday. With no “Bachelorette” running on the 9th, the schedule plays out regularly the rest of the season with the finale airing the July 28th, and “Bachelor in Paradise” premiering the following Monday, August 4th. The date changes for episodes 3 & 4 have been updated in your episode-by-episode spoilers.

Ratings are in from last night and they weren’t good. Last week 7.1 million watched the show with a 1.9 in the 18-49 demo. Last night, that number dropped 30% to 5.7 million and 1.4 in the demo. However, you have to factor in it was a holiday. Des’ season premiered on Memorial Day last year, and she drew 5.8 million viewers, so it’s consistent. I’m guessing once we’re back to consistent Monday episodes, the show will draw in the 6 million viewer range a week, which is fine for them.

If you follow Twitter on Monday nights during the show, inevitably #bachelorette will be trending. It’s become a huge show to live tweet about. I certainly do it, even though it makes my focus of taking notes and writing about the show a little more difficult. Well, producers of the show will also retweet some of their favorites. Basically they only retweet people who kiss their ass and will glorify the show. Amy Kaufman is a writer for the LA Times who’s covered the “Bachelor/ette” for years. Just recently, she was told by the show she was no longer going to be given access to Chris Harrison, contestants, and “Tell All” & ATFR tapings because, well, she’s too negative. The website Jezebel wrote all about it last week. Comical. I’ve read Amy’s stuff here and there over the years. There is 100 times worse things being said about this show than anything she writes. But hey, if ABC wants to cut out a major outlet like LA Times from covering their show, that’s their decision. A stupid one, but it’s theirs to make. I guess that’s what happens to reporters who don’t write about what people are wearing, kiss Robert Mills’ ass, or write fluff pieces. Welcome to the dark side, Amy.

Now lets get to “Bachelor in Paradise.” Here is what I can tell you:

-Filming will be in Tulum, Mexico. There’s a house that’s been rented out down there where all 20 contestants will live.
-Contestants arrive this Sunday and filming begins on Tuesday, the 3rd and will last for 3 weeks
-Every person coming on the show is being paid to do so. Some more than others
-Nobody really has any idea at this point how this show will work other than there will obviously be a dating aspect to it
-Don’t think there are going to be challenges or rose ceremonies with eliminations. I think everyone pretty much stays there the entire time.
-They are trying to make this show less trashy than “Bachelor Pad” and more about making relationships. Good luck with that considering everyone going on this thing is basically just looking for a showmance and to be on TV again.

As for the contestants, there’s supposedly 10 guys and 10 girls and here is most of your cast. I’m almost absolutely positive all these people will be on it, with the corresponding season they were on in parentheses since you’ll need it for a few of them:

Lucy Aragon (Juan Pablo’s season)
Clare Crawley (Juan Pablo)
Danielle Ronco (Juan Pablo)
Amy Long (Juan Pablo)
Michelle Money (Brad 2.0, Bachelor Pad 2)
AshLee Frazier (Sean Lowe)
Sarah Herron (Sean Lowe)

Other names being thrown around that I’ve heard: Elise Mosca (Juan Pablo), Christy Hansen (Juan Pablo), Tierra LiCausi (Sean Lowe), Shannon Gibbons (Jason Mesnick)

Marquel Martin (Andi)
Dylan Petitt (Andi)
Cody Sattler (Andi)
Marcus Grodd (Andi)
Chris Bukowski (Emily, Bachelor Pad 3, every other show ever)
Ben Scott (Desiree)
Zack Kalter (Desiree)
Robert Graham (Desiree)
Kalon McMahon (Emily, Bachelor Pad 3)
Graham Bunn (DeAnna, Bachelor Pad 2)

The other thing I’m hearing is that people might show up during the middle of filming. I have no idea what that means (if someone leaves, someone new comes in?) or what because no one knows what the hell this show is about. But don’t be surprised to see people making appearances and/or becoming part of the show after filming has already started. But those are the basics and most of the people you can expect to see on the show which begins filming a week from today down in Mexico. I’m sure I’ll have the spoilers at some point, but honestly, I wish they would’ve stuck with the “Bachelor Pad” theme. At least that was competitive and money was involved. I don’t even know if there’s a monetary prize, or a final “couple,” or what on this show. It’s all pretty hush hush at this point.

Eric is amazing. Seems like the most genuine and humble guy out of all of them. I am really interested to know the reason he left….I hope you will tell us because I feel like since youv’e hinted that he leaves on negative terms..

Also, Josh is really annoying. He literally seems borderline obsessed with her and just comes across as having way too much confidence.

  2. tia89

    May 27, 2014 at 10:17 AM

Meant to say that since you’ve hinted that Eric leaves on a negative terms, I feel like ABC wont go into much detail about it.

I’m having to force myself to watch this season. I don’t care for Andi at all. She is very annoying. My least favorite Bachelorette of all.

  4. vessel

    May 27, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Aside from her excessive use of the word “Stop” (gotta agree with Steve on that) I am REALLY liking Andi. Favorite Bachelorette since Ashley. I think Desiree wins hands down for worst. I could barely keep my eyes open during her season, it was like watching paint dry.

Unfollowed Steve on Twitter last night because of a crass comment he made about Andi’s weight and found that reading his column contains the same exact jokes he tweets… no loss there.

The @Andiscleavage twitter handle was up and running last night with Steve as the only follower, but hey, brilliant to mention it again here. It’s like your clairvoyant Steve…..or maybe the creator of the account.

Josh seems smarmy. I think everything Nick said about him on the airplane is probably true. I’m a little surprised Andi fell for a guy like that. His overly whitened massive chompers are unattractive.

Hey Steve, what are you getting from Courtney for mentioning her book?

Membership in the cool kids club? You couldn’t pay me a penny to read one line in that sociopath’s book.

Andi bores the s@@@ out of me. See I have a potty mouth just like her. The stop was driving me nuts, reminds me of the Elaine Benis “shut-up” but not funny. I think Andi and Julia Dreyfuss look a bit similar.

Steve, how could you not comment on Marquel’s outfit? I thought the patterns were going start a fight with each other.

Great news on BACHELOR PARADISE and scoop on Courtney’s book. This season is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s worst. A terrible crop of guys, some clearly struggling with their sexual identity! Also, did you catch Josh speaking of his pro baseball career that started at age 17? I wonder how long it lasted before he was sidelined by injuries. My guess is that it was so short as to not even be worthy of proclaiming oneself a professional athlete. They did the same thing with Juan Pablo whose pro soccer career consisted of only a handful of games and scant playing time.

  8. JovisMom

    May 27, 2014 at 12:45 PM

I’m actualy excited to read Courtney’s book. I’m reading (just started) Melissa’s and I am enjoying it.

I’m kinda shocked Sarah Herron is do Bach In Paradise. She seems to sweet and better than that and I really don’t see her “hooking” up with any of those guys.

    I am liking Andi’s season.

Anyone watching “I Want to Marry Harry”. It’s awful and those girls are dumb. I remember when Joe Millionaire was on 10 years ago and those girls were dumb too.

It always amazes me how negative people can be about the lead or the other contestants – jeez maneez, they’re just young folks who are getting whatever edit the show wants us to see. While naturally we each pick our favorites, that doesn’t mean we have to trash the other folks, does it, esp. after seeing each of them, except for Andi, onscreen for what – maybe 3-4 minutes each? I guess I should change my “RS name” to Pollyanna.

    May 27, 2014 at 1:38 PM

Wikipedia says Josh was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers out of high school and played six seasons in the minors before waking on to the football team at UGA. I’d say that qualifies as a professional athlete…

THANK YOU for commenting on Andi’s sudden use of the word “ya’ll”… I don’t remember her ever saying it during JP’s season, but I guess she wasn’t addressing a large group very often… either way, super annoying. We get you’re from Atlanta, but just staaahhhppp already.

  12. iheartvino

    May 27, 2014 at 2:23 PM

I like Andi and so far I’m actually enjoying her season, but I agree that the excessive use of “y’all” and “stop!!” is a little annoying.

Bigfatwoman- you have that backwards, about the @andiscleavage twitter account- that account is following Steve, not the other way around. As of right now it has 7 followers, none of them being Steve. Who knows who started that account. I think it’s far more likely that one of Steve’s followers did.

  13. Justalittlefan

    May 27, 2014 at 3:09 PM

Graham Bunn and Michelle Money are going on the show? Aren’t they both in relationships? Maybe they will end up back together, they clearly seem to be into each other.

I’m going to read Courtney’s book for sure. She’s hilarious and I’m sure it will be good for a laugh, especially to hear about Ben and his clearly wandering eye.

  14. bigfatwoman

    May 27, 2014 at 3:54 PM

    Hey @calblondie8888′

I’m sorry I deleted your post last week. I’ll try not to do that again.

@iheartvino, you’re right. I had that backwards, although I’d still put my money on Steve creating the account and making himself the first follow.

Steve’s tweet about Andi’s weight is seen by many young and impressionable 18-24 year old girls who follow him on Twitter. How wonderful for them to know Steve perceives Andi as overweight.

@RealitySteve: When Eric flipped Andi, how badly do you think he had to hold in, “Errrrffff…that was tough?”

  15. paisley17

    May 27, 2014 at 6:07 PM

Josh is not appealing. Maybe he’s better in person. I just don’t see his attractiveness thru this show. Other guys in the cast are way more attractive and interesting than him. I think he just comes from a high-status/sports/fame background, and that’s what Andi is perusing. If she has gone out with athletes and a rich real estate guy (as reality steve said), then it makes sense. She’s a social climber!

  16. purplesunsets

    May 27, 2014 at 9:45 PM

So that’s where Marcus is going… Hmmm.

I think majority of these guys aren’t gonna get the best edits… Hard to say what they are like. But seeing a few online (twitter) they seem ok. Chris Siegfried from Des’ season didn’t get much air time and seemed boring but hearing him on Jason and Molly’s podcast he seems funny and quirky.

I don’t know if anyone noticed Nick V and Josh seemed chummy in the first part of the episode when the boys were wondering around the mansion. After the trash talking video its surprising.

  17. kasey31

    May 28, 2014 at 12:16 AM

I’m with Iheart, Jovismom, Vessel and Athena-
I actually finally watched the premiere, and I think Andi is one of the better leads they’ve had in quite a long time! Des was so awkward and uncomfortable most of the time, it made me feel uncomfortable watching her- it has no bearing on who she is as a person, I’m sure she’s a sweetheart in real life, just not quite right for the lead.
Andi, on the other hand, appears very natural in front of the camera; she’s articulate, intelligent, witty, has no problem keeping up with this diverse group of guys, energetic, enthusiastic, she’s beautiful, and she has the confidence to carry the show without coming across as snobby and arrogant- my main complaint about Emily Maynard.
Ashley Hebert was my favorite Bachelorette up until this point, so we’ll see- 2 completely different personalities, but both seem to be able to keep a fairly healthy balance between displaying the inner confidence this show requires to successfully take that role on and remaining humble.

BFW- Wow, so now you’re going and erasing people’s comments?? When will this ever end with you? Geeze! ; )
But just so you know, Steve has defended women, from celebrities to contestants to everyday women, and their weight on his blog a few times. He has expressed his dislike for calling a woman “fat”- It’s one of the reasons he disliked Nikki so much from JP’s season. I remember in one of his video blogs, someone asked him whether it was true that Nikki had called other contestants in the house fat, and he said in obvious disapproval, “Yep, I did hear that,” and shook his head in disgust. I’m 99.99999% sure that his comment about Andi was his sarcasm coming out in full force. Like, “How hard could it have possibly been to flip Andi?” I could be wrong, but never to my knowledge has Steve ever implied in his blog that any women from any season were fat. I’d put $$ on it- seems to be one insult he steers clear away from.

I liked Andi okay right up until the group night date where Craig got drunk. Did anyone else feel like she totally over dramatized that whole situation? Maybe they just edited it down so her reaction seemed over the top compared to what they showed, but she kept acting like all of the guys except a couple had just really disappointed her. Craig was a hot mess, but no one else acted ridiculous. It just made her seem really arrogant and self centered.

    May 28, 2014 at 7:29 AM

No Erica Rose? Loved the kook she brought to Bachelor Pad, so was hoping she’d be back. But it looks like there will be plenty of crazy without her. My money’s on Chris Bukowski nailing both AshLee and Clare. He loves the high-strung, low-self-esteem ladies.

  20. Sunnyside422

    May 28, 2014 at 8:20 AM

Andi reminds me of Ali in that she seems to be able to have fun with the guys and is at ease with them. She looks comfortable in her role. Thus far Ashley and Ali have been my favorites.

I too noticed the odd speaking voice Andi has and kept thinking “blow your nose”. Maybe she needs an inhaler or something to clear the sound.

Josh is okay…but i seems she is really hot for him and him for her so I guess ending up with him is a good thing.

  21. amyrn22

    May 28, 2014 at 9:17 AM

I can’t believe I’m the first one to mention this, but besides Andi’s extremely annoying use of the word “y’all” and “stahhhhp” The other thing she keeps saying is “Whaaaahhht??” For example: “I have 10 brothers and sisters.” Andi: “Whaaaaaaahht? Staaaaaahhp.” It is so annoying. Every single conversation. “Whaaaat? Staaaahhhp.” Come on, Andi. Come up with something else. It makes her seem disingenuous. And she definitely wasn’t using the world “y’all” on JP’s season. She wanted to appear much more city and sophisticated lawyer on his season. Now all of a sudden she’s country bumpkin in cutoffs. I do like that she’s not as boring as Des (that was horrible) and seems more comfortable in front of the cameras, but the stop and what and ya’ll annoy me, and it just seems unclear of who she really is, because it’s constantly changing for whoever she’s with. Josh annoys me too. Boy is he primed for tv. These two are perfect for each other honestly… they both don’t have jobs anymore and are ready for their DWTS, tv wedding, 15 min of fame, right in the footsteps of Sean and Catherine.

Maybe I’m being too logical, but it seems drama about a girlfriend is coming up, and Eric leaves outside a rose ceremony, so is it possible that he is the one with a gf? Or maybe her little hissy fit about anyone not there for the right reasons should leave was his que to go. Remember when Deanna cried about how hard this all was? Hilarious! You’re getting paid to have a harem of guys adore you, just maybe not every single minute.

Also, not sure about what Steve said about her size, but that girl is a size 4, 6 tops. Absolutely gorgeous, and one of the most articulate bachelorettes they have ever had. I doubt we’ll ever have to endure hearing ‘me and him’ this season!

  23. cablonde888

    May 28, 2014 at 2:10 PM

    Hi Steve

I am glad you made the comment about her saying ya’all a lot this season. I never heard her southern accent come out until this season, she never said ya’alls or had a twang on JP season. Also not sure if you noticed but her lipstick was smeared in the sides of her mouth (a pet peeve of mine) and this was before she was macking down with Chris. She looks much better with just lip gloss if she cannot apply her lipstick correctly. I also agree with you and everyone that her ” staaaaahhhhp” is getting annoying. She made fun of JP for his quirk saying esss ok, but she is doing this season with that. Also couldn’t agree more about the cleveage, Andi is all about her boobs. She seemed very modest on JP season, but now she is bringing dem titties out for a full adventure. As always love your blog! xx

    May 28, 2014 at 2:29 PM

I am confused about the “deleting of the comments” piece that BFW made earlier in this thread. Can someone explain that to me? I don’t even know if that person was talking to me because my user name is cablonde888 NOT “calblondie8888?”…so yeah.

Josh has a job. He’s a rep for Capstone Financial. He’s got a business degree and went into finance when he left baseball.

How is it a poster can delete another poster’s comments? Is that possible here?

  26. mommyof2

    May 28, 2014 at 7:53 PM

As far as everyone’s comments about AndI saying “y’all” a lot, let me explain: she is from the South. We say “y’all” here all the time. Several times a day. It is completely natural for everyone born and raised in the South (and many who transfer/transplant down here) to speak this way when referring to a group. To clarify, “y’all” is a contraction for the words “you” and “all”. Thus, you + all = y’all. The only reason y’all didn’t hear Andi say “y’all” constantly in JP’s season is b/c they obviously edited it out. Now, the whole “staaaaaappp it” thing is not a Southern thing. That’s an Andi thing. But again, the only reasoner didn’t hear that during JP’s season is b/ c they edited it out. Trust me: she is not saying y’all constantly for the show: that is how we speak in the South on a every day basis.

  27. mommyof2

    May 28, 2014 at 7:59 PM

And if you re-watch JP’s season, her accent is exactly the same as it is now. Her Southern accent is not nearly as strong as it could be since she is from the city of Atlanta, whose people have a more watered down Georgia accent due to the many transplants in Atlanta. The rest of Georgia- particularly rural areas- have much deeper Southern accents than Andi.

  28. amyrn22

    May 29, 2014 at 7:51 AM

Mommyof2, I think every single person on this blog knows what “y’all” means. That isn’t the point of what everyone is saying… at all. We know what it means, and we know that people use it all the time in the South. What is odd is that she didn’t use it at all during JP’s season. She really didn’t use her accent at all, and definitely didn’t use that word every other sentence like she is now. She tried to come across more “city girl” and sophisticated on JP’s season- even her wardrobe and hair was more “big city” than country. Now she’s portraying a country girl, speaking with more of a southern accent and using the word y’all all the time. Whether or not she was putting on an act during JP’s season or is now, it’s just strange that she is a completely different person now. I think that’s what people are seeing and getting a little annoyed by. (and to be honest, I think it’s influenced by Josh…he’s definitely more southern, and she wants to appeal to him, and I think she knew it was going to be him from the very beginning).

  29. Dianne

    May 29, 2014 at 8:23 AM

Yeah, I’d kinda like to know how BFW is able to “delete” other posters comments?

amyrn22 – I think you hit the nail right on the head regarding Andi’s sudden Southern accent. She’s pouring it on to impress Josh! Great observation 🙂

  30. marybods

    May 29, 2014 at 9:16 AM

Re: Andi’s use of ya’ll. I am from Pittsburgh and we say “yinz” ALL the time ( yinz is the Pittsburgh version of ya’ll). We say it many times a day and don’t even realize it is coming out of our mouth. I have no problem with Andi saying this, I think it is kinda cute and I don’t care all that much for her. I can bet you she said it constantly on JuanyPs season, it was just edited out.
Re: Andis use of stawwwwp. I agree with YINZ guys. Very annoying. KNOCK IT OFF!!

No way did RS make fun of Andis weight, I don’t even understand where bigasswoman is getting this. If she is hating RS so much why does she read his blogs and comment on EVERY post?

  31. Dianne

    May 29, 2014 at 9:37 AM

marybods – BFW has ALWAYS been nothing but negative towards Steve and the comments he makes. Makes me wonder if Steve is paying her to stir the pot. Either way, just ignore her..unfortunately, she won’t go away, and she won’t change.

  32. ccway

    May 29, 2014 at 12:14 PM

Steve did make a comment about how tough it must have been for Eric to flip her over. I, too, thought he was making a remark about her weight, but then didn’t think he would do that. She’s def not overweight so there’s really nothing to make fun of. But, yeah, I didn’t get that tweet either.

  33. rob22

    May 30, 2014 at 9:02 AM

I hope we’re not veering into the tired and silly subject of having to completely agree with RS on everything he says. If people want to disagree with RS or point out his arrogance, then they should be able to do so without people saying they should go away. Disagree if you like, but let’s not make this a website only for the koolaid drinkers. RS is hardly a koolaid drinker himself, so I hardly imagine he wants a comments section that’s only for his boot lickers.

She knew it was going to be Josh from the very start. It’s kind of hard to hide that kind of attraction. They both seemed smitten from day one.

It would be nice for someone to repeat what Ali did during her season, and not make the F2 go through the ceremony unnecessarily. I was no fan of Ali’s (something about her got on my nerves), but thought that was a classy move.

I’m still really enjoying Andi as the lead. She brings so much more personality then a couple others. I haven’t enjoyed a Bachelorette since Ashley. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a male lead. Ben and Sean didn’t appeal to me at all. Andi is very polished, which is the total opposite of Des. Des was sweet, but certainly no firecracker!

  35. mommyof2

    June 1, 2014 at 3:05 PM

Like I said before, the only reason we didn’t hear Andi say y’all a lot during Zjuan Pablo’s season is b/c they obviously edited it out. She isn’t putting on a show with a Spithern accent and saying y’all. What would be weird is if she DIDN’T say y’all. She’s from Atlanta, for goodness sakes. Everyone born and raised in the Southern states says y’all all the time. So, enough about the y’all comments. The only reason we didn’t hear it before is b/c they edited it out.

  36. mommyof2

    June 1, 2014 at 3:06 PM

Sorry for the typos above. I didn’t proofread before posting.

  37. rob22

    June 2, 2014 at 7:25 AM

mommyof2: There is Atlanta and there is Georgia. Sure, some people are more southern and throw in y’alls in every sentence. Andi isn’t all that southern. It seems like she’s forcing in some of the y’alls where they don’t even belong. I do think they are playing up the southern aspect…. maybe going for that Duck Dynasty/Honey Boo-Boo demographic (now they are southern!). But professionals working inside the Atlanta perimeter typically are not blatantly southern…. and a lot of them, like Andi, really don’t have much of an accent.
