Do you know when exactly Des and Chris are getting married? Chris Harrison didnt specify and just said in a couple weeks. And did you buy them a wedding gift since they ‘made’ it?
Comment: Yes, Chris Harrison on Monday did say a couple weeks. So if he’s accurate, I’m guessing it’s Jan. 17th.
Thank you for emailing me that. I had totally forgotten, but once I read your email, I did a little search, found where they were registered, and bought their gift(s) last night. It’ll be arriving in 3-6 days according to the shipping email I received. I’m a man of my word.
So glad you’re back to cover the new season! I have a few questions:
1. Some time ago, you said that the lead is asked to pick the Final Four during the first week so that the crew can build the storyline. But how set in stone is the Final Four? What if the lead changes his mind? What if one of the Final Four decides to leave (which I’m guessing is what happened with Sharlene on JP’s season)? And is the Final Four entirely decided by the lead, or do the producers have a say? I never said the lead is asked to pick his final four on the first night. I said the lead pretty much knows who they like after the first night and who’s gonna go far. Can things change? Sure. But they rarely do.
2. In your last column, you basically said that there are some girls who are there for filler who the lead doesn’t have a chance to talk to, even if he wants to. For reals? What if the lead really likes one of these girls? Do these girls know they are the filler? And are they dumped into the filler category because they’re not seen as “good TV”? The lead can’t possibly like all 25 people. Doesn’t happen. Casting knows pretty well when they select these people who’s going to last long and who isn’t.
3. What DOES the lead get to decide, anyways — versus what the producers get to decide?
Comment: Not a whole hell of a lot. They don’t decide on dates and locations, that’s for sure. They tell producers things they like to do and places they like to go, & then producers plan accordingly. They’ll even ask the lead, “Who do you know you want to send home” and that person might end up on a 1-on-1 where they leave, or even a 2-on-1. Nothing spontaneous really happens on this show. Producers pretty much know what’s going to happen at all times. Did they know Juan Pablo was going to dump Clare and pick Nikki? Absolutely. Did they know exactly what was gonna come spewing out of Clare’s mouth once she was dumped? Not really. But they knew she’d be upset.
A couples questions:
What was up with Michelle Money’s comment about hearing that Britt doesn’t shower? I love Michelle and am a huge fan, but it just seemed to fall a bit flat if it was a joke. Michelle has addressed this on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Apparently this is a running joke in the house and we will see it in the next few episodes. Britt is very well aware of it and even took to her Instagram account (brittkarolina) to acknowledge it.
Did you see Chris Bukowski’s tweet about Sarah Herron being the next Bachelorette? I love Britt so far and believe it will be her, but was wondering if this was anything like the Arie situation this past year.
Thanks so much and keep writing!
Comment: Sarah Herron is not going to be the “Bachelorette.”
I record the Bachelor and watch it later to skip the many commercials. Does recording the show count in the ratings? Everyone I know does this. I’m sure it’s a common practice.
Comment: In the ratings that come out the very next day that I put in my column? No. But there are DVR +3 and DVR +7 ratings breakdowns that advertisers look into. As long as a show is watched within 7 days of being recorded, it counts. But since we’re a need-our-info-now society, people aren’t going to wait a week to get the true ratings of a show. So they have the overnights, which come out mid-morning the next day, and then those are adjusted accordingly throughout the week when DVR playback is measured in.
Just some random thoughts. No reply necessary.
Is Chris Harrison’s nose getting more crooked as he gets older? His nose looks different that in photos that I could find from 2006. He could be a convincing Witch next Halloween.
If you go back to Nikki’s interview, check out Zak in the background. He turns his head several times to look at Nikki. He either wanted to “hit” that or he couldn’t take his eyes off of her new boobs (…or to make sure he was still in the shot). The way Courtney Robinson was touching Zak, to have him follow her, I think he ended up “hitting” that one. Zak just got engaged over Xmas break, so I wouldn’t think he’d try and hit either of those that night.
Britt is attractive, but wouldn’t ABC want someone with a more appealing job to be the next Bachelorette. What guy (who wants to be on television) is going to say, “Yeah, I’m wanna marry a WAITRESS!” I know Chris is a farmer, but he’s a MILLIONAIRE farmer. Haven’t the Leads had pretty successful jobs? (Well, except Emily, but she has inherited NASCAR money.) It’s a fair point. But did Ali really have a job? She’d left hers.
Saw Lesley Murphy in the background. Either ABC flew her in from South America or she stayed over from visiting her family for the holidays. If the former, nice show budget. (Lesley’s sister still lives in LA so she had a place to stay.)
Guess those women from The Bachelor’s hometown couldn’t drive an hour to Waterloo, IA to spruce up for TV. Bad haircuts and unfashionable statement necklaces from Wal-Mart (guessing). The woman who was a few years behind Chris in school looked 10 years older than him. (I’m from a small town too, but I would drive 45 minutes to Tulsa to shop for clothes and have a cut/color appointment with someone who has an actual cosmotology degree.)
Did you notice that Erica Rose has gained weight? (insert moment of schadenfraude here)
Thanks for reading!
Is there a reason Des and Chris’s wedding is not airing on TV? I find it odd that they wouldn’t want to if ABC offered it – and If ABC didn’t offer it, that’s even more odd since they’ve done a special for every other lead that’s got married.
Comment: I don’t think ABC is going to be airing any more weddings, no matter who the couple is. I think they realize there’s only so much you can do with a 2 hour wedding episode, and they basically end up all being the same. A lot of work to put in for very little payoff. They’ve done 4 of them now, they’re all pretty much the same thing, and I think they just have no interest anymore.
Any idea what the tattoo says on taras back? Thanks. Keep up great work.
Comment: I don’t have 100% confirmation on this, but I think it says “Drink like a fish. I do. On national TV.”
First of all, maybe you can refer to Chris Harrison as CH? Just a thought. Or just Host Chris as I’ve done in the past.
Next, I somehow was totally oblivious to Nikki and tuned her out. Can you post a before and after pic? I did in Tuesday’s column. Here it is again:
Yeah, I’d say Nikki’s have been enhanced. By about 100 sizes. pic.twitter.com/hdHK6iCro2

Finally, and most importantly, to help me keep track, would you consider posting the group photo and X’ing out their faces as the weeks progress? There are too damn many women and many of them look alike. Whitney and Britt were the only ones I could keep straight: annoying voice and the pretty one.
That’s all. Enjoy your column and listening to you on the KKMS.
Comment: I’ve never done the group photo thing. Not seeing the benefit of it. I think once the numbers start dwindling down, you’ll start to catch on. Yes, 22 women (Or 23 since Kimberly comes back next episode) is hard to do, but just realize, pretty much most of them are irrelevant. Whitney, Kaitlyn, Becca, Carly, Jade, Britt, Kelsey, and Ashley I. are probably your most important girls this season to keep an eye on. Crazy Ashley S. and Tara are the “early season” train wrecks as well. Not too many other make much of an impression.
Any chance you think they might consider Nikki as the next bachelorette? She’s irritating, but they sure did play her up for a while on that pre-show segment… Granted it was just to get her to talk sh*t about JP, but her nice new boobs would look great on America’s screens, right?
Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re excellent.
Comment: Could they consider her? Sure. I’m sure they consider a lot of things. But will she get it? I highly doubt it.
This email was sent yesterday morning…
I have been a fan for years! You’re the best!
I am missing your weekly updates for the bachelor. Hope you can update us soon
My question for you is regarding Andi and Josh….. Something about the two of them when they are on camera is just off. They both are trying to hard to look happy, and in love. In the past you had alluded to the fact that neither of them made mention of Josh’s brothers engagement. Do you know if there was any drama with Andi and the Murray family behind the scenes? For a while, on her twitter or Instagram, all you saw was pictures with her family, yet just recently some with the Murrays have started to pop up. Just seems odd, especially because of the way Josh had described his relationship with his brother while on the show. Keep up the great work, love the site.
Comment: There’s a better than great chance those two are never getting married.
One of my questions from watching the premiere is where were des and chris? I know they mentioned them getting married but it surprises me that they wouldn’t be there. I know abc is not televising the wedding but has there been a falling out between the two sides?
Comment: Des & Chris were part of the New Year’s Day float. Also, them along with Jason & Molly are hosting viewing parties at a restaurant in Seattle every Monday night. So that pretty much nixed any chance of the four of them being in LA Monday night.
Hey RS…love the site. I emailed you a few times last year to fill you in on what a message board was saying about Andi & Josh (remember I told you someone had listed like 60 reasons why Andi was with Nick? Haha that one). Well there back again, and already questioning you. A few on there think you’re wrong about Whitney and Chris is with Becca. Here’s something they wrote (I think it was the same person as last season!):
Becca is especially interesting… and mysterious. We are informed by the popcorn gallery that he is “looking her over from head to toe”.
… She gets a ton of commentary by others, but hardly speaks on screen herself, unless responding to others in conversation or joining the Greek Chorus detailing Tara’s drunk fest.
… Whitney seems particularly bothered by her (in the way they edit her comments over Becca’s face) because she is personally “nervous about all of the beautiful women here” and obviously senses Chris is smitten by her appearance. This is despite the fact that we don’t see them together at all in this episode past the limo arrival and have no clue of what they talked about or did when together.
… last season, Chris and Andi discussed with the older couple in Santa Anita that “sometimes you just kinda know”. During the ceremony, Chris fusses about making the mistake of sending somebody home that he should keep, but over footage of Becca, he says “some people you kinda know”. This clearly works in her favor as a frontrunner. He also says over Becca, either positively or negatively (depending how you interpret such baffling lines): “I want to make sure I get this as right a possible”.
I know you’ll dismiss it because you say he’s engaged to Whitney, but just wanted to show you how these people have no lives and will dissect anything to try and prove you wrong. All they do is talk about you and what you write, it’s crazy I tell ya’! Looking forward to you proving them wrong.
Comment: Awesome. Let them think he picks Becca. They’ll be wrong. Again. They don’t know what I know and how I know it. Let them dissect whatever they want til they’re blue in the face. I don’t care. Chris is engaged to Whitney.
Love your site! I love your sense of sarcasm!
Quick question, I just read that Cody and Michelle Money split, what happened? Do you know the inside scoop? They looked like such a great, happy couple…
From a loyal fan!
Comment: They looked like such a great, happy couple because why? She tweeted and Instagrammed it for what seemed like every day once “Bachelor in Paradise” was over? Don’t read so much into social media sometimes. Stuff like that means nothing. In fact, as I’ve always said, the more a couple has to tweet and post photos of how in love they are, the more I tend not to believe them and they’re just trying to convince everyone they are. ESPECIALLY couples from this franchise. We’ve seen it time and time and time again.
