I’m fully convinced now that anything that has to do with Des & Chris’ life I’m probably going to be wrong on. I mean, we all know what happened in the finale when I swore it was Brooks the whole time. It happens. I’ve made it my mission to never be wrong about the ending of this show again. So far, so good. This season will be no different. However, I just can’t seem to get sh** right when it comes to these two. Although in this particular instance, I actually did have it right before screwing it up. I said a couple weeks ago that their wedding would be this past weekend, but then last week after seeing Chris tweet about “#9moredays,” I assumed I was off by a week. Well, it was this past weekend on Sunday in Palos Verdes, CA. I’m not sure why neither of them promoted it, and even went out of their way to intentionally throw people off, but they did. Hell, they even got Jason and Molly to join in. If you saw their Twitter on Sunday, they tweeted out a picture to make it seem like they were at the Seahawks game, when they were actually in CA at the wedding. I’m not really sure what that was all about. I guess maybe because Des and Chris have an exclusive with US Weekly with their pics being released tomorrow that they couldn’t take the chance of other paparazzi showing up and snapping pictures. Really the only thing I can think of as to why they’d deliberately let people think it wasn’t this past weekend. Oh well. They are now married, and you’ll be seeing photos from the wedding hit newsstands tomorrow when US Weekly comes out.
Ratings are in from last night, and the “Bachelor” improved significantly over last week’s episode that went head-to-head with the national championship game. Viewership grew from 6.5 million to 7.5 million, and from 1.8 to a 2.1 in the 18-49 demo. Not only that, it was Monday’s night’s #1 TV show in Adults 18-34, and won both key women’s demos 18-34 and 18-49. But that’s not as much of a surprise as it wins those key demos every week, which is all they care about. Women control the advertising for this show on Monday nights. Say all you want about drama, cattiness, crazy girls, Chris is boring, blah blah blah. When they can go to their advertisers every season and say, “For 11 weeks on Monday nights, women 18-49 will be glued to our show for 2 straight hours,” they win. Hence the reason we are on season 29.
Next week’s episode breakdown looks like this:
-8 girls (Kaitlyn, Samantha, Juelia, Mackenzie, Kelsey, Megan, Ashley S., and Ashley I.) have a group date at the beach. This is also the date where the tent action at night happens.
-Jade has her 1-on-1 “Cinderella” date chosen by Chris’ sisters
-6 girls (Whitney, Becca, Britt, Carly, Nikki, and Jillian) head to SF for a charity mud run in wedding dresses
Ashley S. leaves before the rose ceremony this episode by going off on Chris and production. Whether it’s shown or not is a different story, but she’s gone before the rose ceremony happens.
In episode 5 in New Mexico, the dates are:
-Britt has a 1-on-1 in a hot air balloon
-White water rafting group date
-Carly has a 1-on-1 date that Chris claims is one of the craziest ones yet
One thing I did want to correct myself on is something I mentioned back in the Jan. 5th spoilers about Whitney’s parents. I said that she had none because they had both passed. That’s partially true. Whitney’s mom died when she was either 18 or 19. Her dad left them when they were very young and is not in Whitney’s life at all. Hasn’t been since then. But he is alive. Just no relationship there at all. So I apologize for misreporting that.
Don’t forget “Reader Emails” is now on Wednesdays, with “Dr. Reality Steve” Thursday nights. I think I might be adding a short column every Monday now to give you all news and notes from the franchise and get you ready for the upcoming episode. So look for that next week. Also, for those that missed it, I’ve added a new writer to the site, Nell Kalter, who will be recapping “Vanderpump Rules” every Tuesday, and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” every Wednesday. You can read today’s VPump Rules recap right here.
