Reader Emails

A Super Duper Batch of “Reader Emails,” Becca’s Sister Lashes Out, & Britt on “Kimmel”

Hey RS!

Thanks for all that you do!

I was wondering when BIP 2 would start filming and air? When Bachelor ends, will we have a Bachelor void until summer? then Bachelorette airs in Fall?

Thanks!

Comment: Huh? No. Bachelorette airs the same time it’s aired the last 5 years. Starts filming in March right after the “Bachelor” finale, begins airing in May and runs through end of July. BIP 2 films in June and starts airing right when Bachelorette ends.

Hi Steve,

Love the column, thanks!

I’ve heard speculation from people who don’t read your spoilers that Whitney will be the next Bachelorette. I’m curious to hear your thoughts- if Whitney hadn’t won, do you think she would have been in consideration? She’s classy and sweet, but I don’t think she’s sexy enough to be chosen as the lead. What do you think?

Thanks!

Comment: Does it matter? She did win and she won’t be the next “Bachelorette.”

Not sure if you put reader emails in Monday’s column.

I meant to ask this Thursday but real life called me away.

Let me preface by saying I totally think Whitney is the last girl standing.

OK, the question….. After the whole Brooks thing, where he wasn’t really Final 1, do you now double and triple check even more, before announcing your spoilers, especially the Final 1 spoiler? If it were me, I think I’d be even a lot more cautious than I had been.

Thanks!

Comment: Ever since Des’ season, I haven’t gotten the ending wrong. I know what I did wrong that season. It won’t happen again. Yes, I check thoroughly. This season was no different. I haven’t wavered for 3 months because of the information I have. He’s engaged to Whitney.

I know you’re busy in bachelor work, but hopefully you’ve had time to take in at least some this SNL special tonight. For an SNL fan it’s just amazing. I’ve been freaking out all evening. Only thing better would be there holding the cue cards or something, just to be around all that greatness. Lorne Michaels has built quite a legacy.

Comment: Yes, I saw it after Sunday’s night “Bachelor.” It was great to see everyone together. A 3 ½ hr live show trying to placate to so many egos can be hard. There were some things that went over great (Fallon & JT’s open, Celebrity Jeopardy) and plenty of things that bombed (a lot of other stuff). All in all it was a television event that if you’re a fan of SNL, you wanted to see. I thought it was great.

Hey Steve,

Well, until tonight I’ve felt like Carly was a sympathetic, likeable character. But she jumped right off of hating on Kelsey to hating on Britt. And fine, Britt realized this deal wasn’t for her, and was a bit dramatic, but Carly comes off like she’s trying too hard, when it’s plain there was no chemistry between her and Chris and she should’ve followed Megan right out the door days prior. I think she’ll come off the same way on BIP if they bring her on. I don’t see her “finding love” only more opportunities to roll her eyes and be snarky as other girls get attention.

Comment: I could see Carly on BIP. Would be great if she hooked up with a guy from Des’ season just so we can see Zak squirm when he realizes one of his former roommates is now hitting on his sister.

Dear Steve, first of all thanks for turning me on to Friday Night Lights. It’s simply the best T.V. show ever. Yes it is. Well, besides 24.

Second, do you think the next Bachelorette might be Josh Murray’s ex-almost sister-in-law? Kacie McDonnell? When Andi and Josh broke up, Josh’s brother broke up with his fiancee about two weeks after. Her instagram shows her with roses.

Of course it’s Valentine’s Day weekend and all, but still I think she’d be great. She’s a tv journalist and beautiful. She’d be better than any cast-offs from Chris’s season because it seems like she is really ready to get married.

Thanks for all you do to make the Bachelor franchise so fun to watch and so exciting to anticipate.

Comment: Kacie is not going to be the “Bachelorette.”

RS,

My mom is convinced that the final 2 girls are Whitney and Carly. I dont think there’s any hope for her. Once she sees Mondays (tomorrows) Im sure she’ll be shocked.

And also do you think Carly would’ve moved to Iowa for Chris if she had to. I mean she seemed willing to.

Thanks

Comment: No, I don’t think for a second Carly would’ve moved to Iowa.

Hi Steve. While watching a recording of the Sunday night Bachelor episode I noticed something strange. There was a closeup shot of the full moon at 1:06 into the show as a transition between scenes. I swore I saw a woman’s face. I replayed it and sure enough there’s video of a woman’s face superimposed on to the moon. She even moves her eyes. Wasn’t sure why the show would do that. Is it a joke or a clue maybe? I don’t know but thought I would bring it to your attention to see if you knew anything about it or if you could identify her. I didn’t see you mention it on Twitter during the show. I took a photo so you could see it. Her whole face is visible.

Comment: Yeah, it was Carly’s face on the moon. It was done as a joke.
__________________________________________________________

First I want to start by saying, I want to be real life friends with Carly and Kaitlyn. They seem like fun people who are grounded. And that hand puppet that Carly made of Britt??? I was dying laughing.

I love reading your posts and knowing all the inside information. I pray though that you are wrong about Britt being primed for next bachelorette. I think the leads should be someone that people identify with. Britt is a whiney ungrateful witch. She really didn’t get a good edit it seemed.

So after watching on Sunday night here are my questions:

1) Has there been any speculation that Josh cheated on Andi? I mean that girl was heartbroken. She definitely didn’t look like herself. (But on a side note Chris H. looked spiffy). I haven’t heard that speculation. One of those rumor websites said Andi slept with Josh’s brother Aaron, which isn’t true.

2) Was that Harley Chris drove his or just a prop? I believe Chris does ride motorcycles.

3) Having Chris and Whitneys mural on the side of a building seems pretty huge. Is it still on the building or was it a washable paint? Haha It’s still there.

Lastly, Jade isn’t doing a good job of promoting her lip gloss. Half of the girls could’ve used a sheen.

Comment: Has Jade added another color or at least another product to her line? I haven’t checked.
__________________________________________________________

Steve,

Sunday Feb. 15, 2015 episode. Did you happen to notice the time date on one of the photos of Chris and Whitney when they were reviewing pictures. It was January 22, 2015. Question is, was it a re-shoot for the show after the fact, does Chris live in a different time dimension, or maybe the loveable farmer have challenges with computer/camera date settings.

Comment: Yes. Another editing mistake.
__________________________________________________________

Steve,

How well can you deceive (lie) while keeping a straight face? A preferred ability to be on this show. I would love to read the contract these people sign to be on the show.

Megan’s interview on GMA was such a joke. When asked who she thought would win she replied “Becca”. I don’t know how she kept a straight face.

I’m sure your inbox will be full of emails from the doubters who will say “Steve you got the winner wrong yada yada yada”.

9 out of 10 people you see on the street are stupid so when ABC delays the Rose Ceremony to the beginning of the next show it just doesn’t sink in to those 9. More doubters for you to deal with.

Comment: There are doubters every season no matter what I say. Their life revolves around me being wrong. It’s about as pathetic as you can get.
__________________________________________________________

(1) Is it just me or this season are the girls way more vocal to the lead about their disappointment in not getting the group date roses? I mean every season in the house or in their ITMs the girls will complain about not getting the group date rose but it seems like this season they are open and vocal to Chris after every group date rose– tension/crying and stuff (last week when Britt and him returned and there was so much tension and this week when Kaitlyn got the group date rose and Carly/Britt just put Chris on blast). I honestly think it’s exactly the same every season. I didn’t see any difference.

(2) Ever since one of your readers wrote in about all the girls’ terrible pink lipstick I can’t stop focusing on it! It’s every girl, every episode– horrible lipstick shades. #50shadesofpink Must be a girl thing.

(3) where do the girls change from daytime clothes to nighttime clothes during their one-on-one dates? Does the crew have a hotel room in every city where they go on dates (like Whitney’s date in Des Moines) or do they have a wardrobe van? Hotel.

(4) Do you think Chris would’ve picked Jade in the end (or at least would she have made it to the final 2 or 3) if it weren’t for her nude modeling past? If it weren’t for her modeling/criminal past do you think Jade would have been a contender to be The Bachelorette? Yes and yes.
__________________________________________________________

Hi Steve! Thanks for all the recaps and spoilers! Long time reader and never doubt your intel.

One quick observation, which I’m sure you noticed as well – on Sunday’s episode, Whitney is the only girl who didn’t see Arlington. I would love to see her reaction when she finally sees Chris’ hometown.

I’ve lived in Iowa all my life. Des Moines is nothing like Arlington. From the episode it seems like Whitney has false expectations of rural Iowa living.

Comment: I guess we will soon find out.
__________________________________________________________

Hey Steve!

Love your blog, you’re awesome, keep on doing what you do, etc!

Quick question! I know Chris Soules has a ghost writer for his blogs, but does Chris Harrison actually write his own? I’m assuming he does but with this show, I’ve learned never to take anything at face value.

Also, in a Yahoo recap on last night’s (Sunday’s) episode, they made mention of you.

(Here’s the article: https://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/bachelor-recap-chris-tells-all-episode-7-194008749.html. Image is about halfway down)

Surprised they did that since Chris H. is doing his recaps on their site, but I thought you might get a laugh out of it since it’s a pretty major site giving you a shoutout.

Thanks for all you do!

Comment: I’m surprised by that as well, but I appreciate the shout out Kristen.
__________________________________________________________

Is this a Jason/Molly moment? Is it true that he tells one girl he loves them but proposes to the other? Is this a Brooks Forester moment when he says goodbye to Britt and or Jade? what is the scoop?

Comment: The same scoop I’ve been telling you for the last 3 ½ months. Nothing has changed. Consider the source who’s delivering that nonsense.
__________________________________________________________

So of course there’s another site claiming that you’re wrong about who Chris picks. I can’t wait until the end of the season when you prove them wrong yet again! Keep on keeping on!!!

http://www.vcpost.com/articles/43061/20150216/bachelor-season-19-spoilers-reality-steve-picked-wrong-winner-chris.htm

Comment: I don’t care. Again, consider the source – a site that no one has heard of that has no track record of ever being right about anything regarding this show is saying that I’m wrong, yet they back it up with nothing. Ok.

Steve,

Great stuff this year as always. Just wanted to say you have pretty much hit the nail on the head about rural Iowa this season. I was raised in Iowa yet have never stepped foot on a farm. Yes, I’m sure many outside of Iowa will find that hard to believe but there are those of us that live in the state that actually live in cities and not on a farm or small town.

The thing I don’t think people realize is where Chris lives is LITERALLY the middle of nowhere. Sure there are larger towns like Cedar Rapids or Waterloo in the area but those are both a good hour drive away. That’s an hour drive to Starbucks, and hour drive to actually go to a restaurant that isn’t just some small town bar, an hour drive to just about anything else that most people take for granted in their everyday life.

Look I love Iowa to death but even I growing up here wouldn’t be able to handle living on a farm or small town that far away from so many convenient things we don’t even think about living without. Hell it would be the same thing if you took someone from Houston, Dallas, or Austin and said you are now going to live in some small town in West Texas in the middle of nowhere. Ooof.

Comment: I hear ya’. Preachin’ to the choir.
__________________________________________________________

I was just wondering how much past contestants/leads get paid for basically posting ads on Twitter and Instagram? Ashley and JP have started posting about Puffs, Deanna basically had her daughters 1st birthday party sponsored by various companies, etc, etc, etc. I get we all need to make money, but it’s annoying.

Thanks!

Comment: Each person is different. All dependent on the deal they struck with the advertiser.

If you’re annoyed by it, I’d stop following them.
__________________________________________________________

Hi Steve,

I would just like to point out an obvious editing fail that I observed last night. In last week’s preview for Kelsey’s interview, Chris Harrison asks her something to the effect of “How do you think you’ll handle seeing Ashley I. at the Women Tell All episode?” To which her response is “It’s going to be crucifixion” (making us viewers believe that she will be malicious at the WTA).

HOWEVER, in last night’s actual interview with her, the crucifixion comment was said in response to something TOTALLY different. It was the response she gave as a reason for fearing being in the same room with all the girls again at the WTA, because she’s afraid to be ganged up on: “I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I’m afraid it’s going to become a crucifixion.”

This shoddy editing is no shocker of course, but I did not want the producers to think they got away with that.

Comment: Yep. They do it all the time.

Whew! So glad you commented on Andi’s comment about the breakup being “her biggest failure in life” up to this point. I was watching the show last night with my husband (well, I was watching the show in the same room where he happened to be), and when Andi made that comment, we both looked at each other and shook our heads.

I remember a nasty breakup I had back when I was 24 years old. I was engaged to my college sweetheart, and we’d been together almost five years when the whole thing fell apart. I remember feeling like my whole life was over.

That was almost 25 years ago. Since then, I’ve had one successful marriage, three healthy children, and two foreclosures where we lost everything. The crash of ’08 was so bad, I had to pawn my wedding ring. Things are certainly looking up these days, but guess what? Like everything else, this, too, shall pass. You just never know.

So a shout-out to Andi (and any other tragically young, beautiful, successful, healthy women out there who are devastated because they think they lost their “soul mate” and their lives are over):

If THAT is the worst pain you ever experience in your lifetime, may you be so lucky.

Comment: Andi was being overly dramatic because basically she had to. I mean, if she goes on that show and doesn’t shed a tear or seems like she doesn’t care, she comes off as a cold bitch. Her image is VERY important to her.

Britt nailed her audition on Kimmel. She has the momentum now. It is gonna be her.

Britt is just too phony. Too many issues. Her highs and lows are just too dramatic.
This season had the worst/weakest/trashiest batch of women yet.
All brazen self-promoters! Hell, even Whitney, though likeable, landed on the show via Jaclyn and the other Bachelor alumni in Chicago!

It has been said that Britt is a bath girl, not a shower girl. So she takes baths, not showers. So saying she doesn’t take showers is correct, but it’s not she doesn’t wash or clean herself, she just doesn’t shower. Not a big deal.

Still though, I don’t want her to be Bachelorette. She’s clearly a fame whore. Nothing wrong with that, but not appealing to watch on a show about “finding your true love” when you know she’s just trying to get on some other show. Maybe she should pursue soap opera acting, she certainly has the over acting down with the dramatic pauses for effect.

I know Britt isn’t coming off great, but remember, Ali was edited as the Wicked b*tch of the West in her Bachelor stint and Andi didn’t exactly come off positive either, though she got a partial pass for her take down of that idiot JPah-blow because…. well, he deserved it. Both had their images rehabilitated through the WTA & subsequent media appearances, so the same could be true of Britt (e.g. the Kimmel appearance & upcoming WTA). Bottom line, a bad edit and popularity issues can be overcome. If the show wants her, they’ll help fix her image so she’ll be palatable. It’s never been a problem in the past.

Obviously it’s all individual opinion on whether someone will be good/bad, etc. But the show knows that they can turn around the image if need be. Her current unpopularity is not a major barrier.

Look at The Bachelor picks. Juan Pah-blow and Old McDonald. Tell me those were inspired picks. A couple of babbling doofuses. How were the ratings? You would think they would have dropped, right? They didn’t. Basically the show knows that the numbers don’t lie. Whoever they pick, even a complete Jackwagon like JPBlow, the ratings will be there. They’ve got a formula and Britt fits the formula. Kaitlyn would probably do fine, but she’s not the front runner.

Gotta agree, after watching Britt on Kimmel I feel very sure it’s going to be her. Too bad, I was really hoping for Kaitlyn.

“Her highs and lows are just too dramatic.”

And that’s exactly why she would be a perfect lead. Britt lovers will tune in to love Britt and Britt haters will tune in to hate Britt.

But people WILL tune in regardless. And they will talk, talk, talk all over the Internet. And that’s precisely what the producers care about.

  7. cjscjs711

When Whitney talked about her 1-on-1 with Chris she didn’t gush about kissing, as 21-year old Mackensie did at a time when she was the first. (Little did they know then, how much of the same they’d all get later…..) Whitney always seemed to show consideration of the other girls’ feelings.

Neither did Whitney glow, talking about a two-hour “nap” alone in a hotel room, as Hollywood wannabe actress Britt did.

  8. angelfish

    February 18, 2015 at 3:16 PM

” Her highs and lows are just too dramatic.”

And that is exactly why she’d be perfect. People that love Britt will tune in to love Britt, and people who hate Britt will tune in to hate Britt.

And they will ALL talk, talk, talk about her & her contestants. The exact thing the producers want.

What will NOT happen is that people won’t watch. They will. They always do, no matter how much they bitch & gripe about the lead.

Hi Reality Steve (assuming you read the comments),
I just wanted to offer a response to a suggestion offered in one of your reader emails. They offered the suggestion that maybe Chris and Whitney could live in a bigger city/community and Chris could maybe commute to work. So here is the scoop coming from a farmers wife:
My husband and I (along with his parents) dairy and beef farm right around 1000 acres in southern Missouri. Prior to us getting married,I lived about 40 miles away from “the farm.” During summer months and times when they were short handed on the farm I rarely got to see him because of the distance and LONG hours. Commuting to work is not an option for any serious farmer (by serious I mean you do it for a living not a hobby). We have a farm five miles away that we cant put some of our livestock on right now because we are afraid they will lamb or calve during the night and we don’t wont to be driving an additional 10 miles twice in the middle of the night to check on them. I know Chris does a lot more crop farming than us, but it is my understanding he owns livestock as well. Here is the thing…. No you cannot live an hour away and commute to work if you are a “career” farmer. It is not an option. Farming is a demanding job. Sometimes you get by with just the “day shit” other times you are pulling all nighters. Again, not an option so there is no need for ANYONE to speculate about it. Period. With that being said, I would like to add one more thing. I grew up in a small town of about 2000 people. It is the town we do some of our business in, and the town I teach in. I have lived here all my life. Not only have I lived in a rural area all my life, my parents also farmed when I was a small child so I understood the lifestyle when I got married. With all of that being said, I will say this:
It was still a huge ADJUSTMENT to be married to a “career” farmer. HUGE! There were times we really struggled. And I had lived that life before, and always lived a small-town lifestyle. There is NO WAY Chris is going to pluck a girl out of a city and move her to a farm whose closest community is what, 400 people?! It will be sunshine and rainbows for awhile…. but it wont last. Farming is a very difficult lifestyle because it is so demanding when it comes to time and resources. It is not for everybody. There is a reason why only 1% of our nation does it.
Anyway, that was my response and a little bit of my soap box. Thanks for reading. I REALLY enjoy your work, Reality Steve. You make the show entertaining. Keep it up.

Watching Britt on the show was like watching a really bad actress. Over-the-top with everything. It’s so incredibly obvious that she was there as an actress. I find it disconcerting that some people could be so naive to see her actions as normal and not the fake behavior of an amateur actress. I guess not everyone can be so observant and recognize phony human behavior. Part of the reason why I like reading Sharleen Joynt’s blog is because she nails it. Disappointed that RS is Britt blind.

Team Kaitlyn….she’s very attracive with a good, seemingly sincere, personality.

    I think Carly is adorable.

I really don’t want to have to look at Britt’s lips (and fake over-the-top reactions) for the next Bachelorette season. She’s a beautiful girl/woman with a facade that seems quite phony.

I don’t like Steve’s comments about Jade. I found her very likeable and sweet. I made a lot of unwise decisions in my 20’s and think a lot of us can say the same thing. But, RS can be very judgemental.

One of your reader emails asked for someone who has read Sean Lowe’s book to comment about it. I’ve read the book.

It’s pretty vanilla. He talks a lot about things that he has covered in different interviews over the last couple of years. He wrote about his college years, how he ended up getting on “The Bachelorette” show, his relationship with Emily and his experience doing that show, and how he ended up being “The Bachelor.” All pretty expected. He does speak out more about his relationship with Catherine and how things developed between them after the show, especially all the changes that they were both dealing with while he was doing DWTS. He speaks about his faith, the development of Catherine’s faith, some of the issues they dealt with in those early months while they were figuring each other out post “The Bachelor.” I thought it was a really good read if you want to know about Sean and Sean & Catherine. If you want dirt on the show Courtney’s books is definitely the best one for that information. You can also get a fair amount of behind the scenes information from listening to Molly and Jason’s podcast.

    Hope that information helps!

Reportedly Britt takes baths instead of showers. So long as she washes herself somehow….
