Hi Steve, thought you did a good job and made watching the Bachelor(ettes) interesting. Disregard the naysayers, internet trolls are the trend these days.

Anyway, I did a write-up on the treatment of Britt that is way too long to post in a comment, and I’ll add the link here – – hope you don’t mind. Never would I have thought my first article will be about the Bachelor. Regardless, one can only wish Britt the best in her quest to find her love.

Last but not least, just want to wish you a Happy Birthday to come, since I doubt I will have the chance to say that to you in person. Please keep up the good work over here!

I hope Britt wins. I can’t believe women are so vicious. If she gets in, I’m positive she will have the most interesting season since Trista. Kaitlin will bore us to distraction.

@loquacious39, when someone does things like throw a hissy fit that dampens everyone’s mood at a group date when you don’t get a rose (Kaitlyn did), or you cry ten times more than everyone else combined at the WTA in order to get the most attention from CH and the cameras, then it tends to alienate others and put a strain on friendships. Britt made her bed, now she gets to lay in it.

@ loquacious39 – I agree. Kaitlyn will no doubt bore me too. In some ways I think she will be the most boring bachelorette ever in the history of the show. Her fans are painting her as being far more interesting than she is. Bachelor Nation did the same thing with Juan Pablo. Their fascination with him didn’t last long.

@42nonsequitur I enjoyed reading your well-thought out article. Admittedly, I am #teambritt so I get what you’re saying.

I’m interested in the comment you made regarding rumors of a certain contestant buying fans – I had heard the exact thing and even witnessed the massive jump (thousands overnight and tens of thousands in a very short time). Your screen shots of troll comments was spot on. It smacks of a smear campaign and it’s unsettling to say the least.

But then maybe this goes on all the time and I’m just not aware – though I have in the past, I don’t really watch much reality TV anymore and spend even less time reading reality blogs and Instagram. I just happened to tune into this season of The Bachelor and Britt jumped out at me. She was very well-spoken (pleasant speaking voice with none of the annoying “like” and “um” fillers most everyone else uses) and her reactions to Chris’s kissing everyone were very genuine to me.

Yeah, yeah, it’s just TV but if a guy sends very real signals, both verbal and physical that he is totally into you, does it makes sense that he’s also feeling the same for 20 other girls at the same time??? Britt’s reaction to that seemed very genuine to me. More so than another contestant’s reaction, saying she wouldn’t mind if Chris was sleeping with the other bachelors because it’s all part of the “process”. Yikes. Yeah, I’d mind.

I’m not sure I understand why people are saying there is so much support for Kaitlyn. I see so much MORE support for Britt! The things people are saying about Britt make for GREAT television and ratings. Regardless of whether you like her or not the show needs her. Kaitlyn will not get good ratings. Do you really think Sean Penn is going to watch the show? HELLO!!!!!!!! And do you really think Sean Lowe isn’t going to watch if it’s Britt – UMMM NOOO!

@beebifidum Well put. Frankly I’m surprised anyone honestly is in favor of Britt as Bachelorette, pretty to look at, sure, but once you try and get past that? Head shaker… In any case Kaitlyn may be my favorite person ever on this show so here’s hoping we are ‘treated’ to one night only of the tearful actress. Bachelor in Paradise is the only place I’m interested in seeing Britt.

  9. 42nonsequitur

    March 13, 2015 at 8:11 AM

@illylover @toaster Thank you for your kind words. You can’t imagine the vitriolic comments I get from this – from further smears on Britt’s reputation to criticising my command of the language. Now I know how Steve feel when he receives all those criticisms.

Frankly, I don’t watch Bachelor(ettes) much in the past years. These days, I played the shows in the background as I worked. I have long had the intention of writing a blog, but it has nothing to do with entertainment shows, but more on speaking out for people/causes that would not speak for themselves.

Britt’s case rattled me much, in part because she has not spoken ill about anyone, in part because of the gang-up bullying. I have actually captured screenshots on the specific contestant’s number of followers in those few days (on the back of the insinuation that she bought followers to boast her campaign) as evidence through Google Cache, but since the topic is more about Britt, I did not feel the need to put that into the article.

What further aggravates me is the obvious number of fake followers who created multiple accounts to troll on Britt with every article published that nobody talks about. It smacks of propaganda machine churning at its best. I suspect such campaigning tactics are just going to keep evolving, and it’s going to get worst as each season progress along. It couldn’t be more obvious who came to the show to want to be the next lead.

I agree with all of you – Britt would make a better bachelorette. Regardless of which contestants the articles were written for, the conversation ultimately came back to Britt.

Mike Fleiss has said before in interviews they take a look at comments on social media but don’t put a whole lot of stock in them. 42nonsequitor named a few of the reasons: buying followers (so common in the entertainment world), multiple accounts by the same people. Plus, even if every single on of the Instagram followers were for real (not), that would still represent only a small fraction of the audience.

I liked Britt best in the beginning, she kinda lost me in the middle; but looking back – no snarky comments or grimaces toward other girls, when she had a problem with someone she confronted the source (Chris) rather than taking it out on the girl.

I love it that she and her family are so involved with orphans and orphanages and working to keep children out of the sex trade. I love dancers and dancing – I photograph them – but honestly, the causes Britt has been involved in are so important and under-discussed. I also like Britt’s spirituality. Compare and contrast their Instagram pages, going back years.

Whichever isn’t picked will probably be on BIP. So, not the end.

I agree that people are ascribing a lot of characteristics to Kaitlyn that really aren’t in evidence.

But many did the same to Becca, citing these immense levels of intelligence, humor, grace and self-worth, where some of us just saw a nice looking, religious college dropout that occasionally smiled, but was pretty robotic and didn’t really give a crap.

    It’s all personal perception.

    March 13, 2015 at 1:08 PM

I understand that fans of the show have their favorite that they want to see on the show. What I don’t get is how expressing an opinion is somehow turned into a “bullying” smear campaign???
From what I’ve observed it’s the Britt fans that are over the top crazy, not the other way around. And, people making it sound like she is some kind of saint. All based on observations from tv, and social media. None of these people have met her in real life.
I have no idea what either of these women are really like, but would prefer to watch Kaitlyn on TV because she is funny, and less theatrical, no over the top drama. I doubt she is a perfect person, just like I doubt that Britt walks on water!! LOL

  15. bachfan30

    March 13, 2015 at 4:10 PM

Justforfun… Ditto to what you said!

The Britt fans are way over the top, and seem to dissect @ overanalyze every single comment supporting Kaitlyn.
I’m rooting for Kaitlyn 100 percent. That is based solely on who I think would be the most entertaining, down to earth, genuine girl to watch! Don’t know either girl in real life, but can only base my opinion based on the vibe I got after watching the season. To me, it’s a no-brained at who’s more authentic here!

  16. elizabeth82

    March 13, 2015 at 4:21 PM

@42 and other Britt fans who say she didn’t badmouth the other women: she asked Chris why he would keep a kind of woman like Kaitlyn. She bashed Kaitlyn and Chris’s judgment in one fell swoop.

Britt couldn’t handle Kaitlyn (who she apparently viewed as her biggest competition) getting the group date rose later in the season over her, and freaked out under the guise of “but you meeting my family is so important.”

I’m on pins and needles waiting on word of who the guys chose… I wonder if Steve has received any sort of tip yet. I know he won’t say anything at all until he’s pretty certain that his sources are reliable, but I’d guess that he’s at least heard some things by now. I’ve checked this site and Twitter ALL day!
    Praying it’s Kaitlyn!! <3

  20. vessel

    March 13, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Totally agree @justforfun. People overuse the word ‘bully’ these days to the point where it’s almost lost all meaning.

I’ve read so many over zealous comments in support of Britt frankly I’m sick to death of it. People talk about her like they know her personally which is really creepy.

In any case people posting they are Team Kaitlyn does NOT equate Britt bashing or bullying, it’s a matter of preference. Based on what I saw of Kaitlyn on the show I can’t find one negative about her, only positive qualities and ones I’m looking forward to seeing in a new season. Fingers crossed!

  21. justforfun

    March 13, 2015 at 9:38 PM

I’m thinking I need to switch to “team Britt”. That way I can ditch watching this guilty pleasure, and find a more meaningful way to spend Monday nights this summer. I checked the RS twitter today to see if there was a decision. That must be a sure sign I am becoming part of the lunatic fringe. OMG!!!
I swear this all started as an innocent Monday night distraction. LOL

I will leave the rest of you lunatic fringe with an appropriate song for this evening of waiting:

Let’s hope most of the guys thought Kaitlyn was just their type. She’s my favorite type of woman!

  22. rob22

    March 14, 2015 at 8:05 AM

I think smear campaigns are pretty nutty. We just witnessed a pretty entertaining Bachelor season headed up by a bland farmer who could barely speak a full sentence in between gulps of whisky. Why? As Steve noted, it’s about the girls and all the drama. So, it probably doesn’t matter whether Britt or Kaitlyn becomes The Bachelorette…. So long as it doesn’t drop to the boring Des level…. Which was painful to watch, and I eventually just fast forwarded to the rose ceremony each week. Des is a nice girl and would probably be a great wife, but that’s not very entertaining. There is zero chance Britt will fall to that level. She, like Andi, knows how to command the moment. Britt will also give us ugly cries and drama, along with her looks that will have the guys drooling over one another. Is her image she’s putting out there on social media accurate or just marketing? It doesn’t matter. If it’s just marketing, all the more reason for her to be The Bachelorette. She gets what this is all about. Marketing and ratings…. That’s all.

Now you could make a case for Kaitlyn being saucy, funny and interesting. That could make for great TV. If she swears like a sailor and sleeps with half of the guys, that could make for some great drama too. But she could also pull a Des and friend zone 90% of the guys. I never truly saw any great connection between Chris and Kaitlyn and saw their relationship as more of a FWB thing. That’s how I see her. One of the guys who gets drunk and shags one of the buddy group once in a while.

That said, The Bachelorette has been on a long time. Maybe they are ready to move to a true Millenial girl. Tats, swearing, casual hook ups. Maybe that’s the way this will go. It could work.

But, I prefer Britt for the 100% certainty that she knows how to pull off being The Bachelorette, the certainty that she’ll create lots of drama, the high potential for a train wreck and still with the high probability of pulling off an Andi-like plausible love story ending…. Followed, of course, by the inevitable break up. Make no mistake, she’s not on the show for love, and there will be no televised wedding. But, isn’t that what we really want to watch?

I’m very uncertain that Kaitlyn could deliver on that level. She could surprise me, though. I’m not Team Anyone. I just want an entertaining show. I am certain Britt will deliver that. Kaitlyn? Maybe.

    March 14, 2015 at 8:16 AM

It never ceases to amaze me how vicious people get about reality show contestants who are perfect strangers. The mean, at times appalling, things said about all of them show me how many people use this as a forum to get rid of their own anger and “mean girl” ways. The cruelty and bitterness are a little sick.

I have nothing against Britt, but find it really interesting at how over-the-top mean people are towards Kaitlyn and Carly. I can’t help but feel Britt has gathered a posse to shower the internet with vicious comments.

Carly may have been somewhat insecure and immature, but she seemed to be a good person with a great sense of humor. There’s a lot we don’t see, and I have no doubt a lot of her snarkiness was part of her particular edit. She may have a little growing up to do, but does not seem malicious or cruel in any way. The editing always plays a big part in how we feel about a contestant, obvously.

I hope Kaitlyn pulls this off and the men think with the right head. Of course, most men would choose Britt based on looks, as that’s how males are wired, but I’m pulling for Kaitlyn!

  24. karynr

    March 14, 2015 at 8:21 AM

And I think Kaitlyn is a beautiful young lady. I find her beauty more refreshing and natural than Britt, who looks like she needs a good shower and a couple days of no makeup to let her skin breath! Maybe it’s all the shower comments I’ve read and heard, but she always looks dirty to me. Now that the idea has been planted in all our heads, it’s hard to get rid of the thought. She looks like she slathers make-up over old, stale days old stuff, and wears some type of scent to cover the B.O. Yes, I’ve bought into the no showering thing hook, line and sinker. Has anyone figured out where that rumor came from (besides Michelle Money the 1st night)?

  25. mush

    March 14, 2015 at 10:02 AM

the rumor of britt not showering came from carlys comment to britt about showering on the show. then the producers told michelle money to say that she heard that britt doesnt shower. it was all planned to create these conversations, hype, drama, whatever. it did not start with michelle money. i like michelle money, btw. i wish shed disassociate herself from this show.

  26. vessel

    March 14, 2015 at 10:17 AM

Speaking of Michelle Money I was pretty disappointed that she’s backing this 2-Bachelorette format. Oh well I’m slightly obsessed with her so I’ll have to let that slide…

Off topic but I’d like to see Cody back on BIP this Summer just so he and Jillian can hook up and lift boulders together. That could be amusing.

  27. momma3j

    March 14, 2015 at 1:44 PM

@karynr, I completely agree with what you said about Carly. I think she came across as “mean” due to editing. I really don’t believe that is her true personality. I found most of what she said on the show about Britt to be truth and actually enjoyed her sarcastic tone. I also agree she is insecure, but who wouldn’t be when your competing with other women for one man’s attention? Before anyone else says “she knew what she was getting into”, I know she did. But no amount of forewarning can prepare someone for how it REALLY is. I have absolutely 0 animosity towards Carly and am 100% TeamKaitlyn.

OOPS….that “your competing” should be YOU’RE

  29. cjscjs711

    March 14, 2015 at 1:59 PM

@ rob22: I’m with you 100% on what you said. Except that it may be a toss-up whether it’s Kaitlyn who friend-zones the guys or whether it would be the guys who friend-zone Kaitlyn. They’ll all ACT like they want to marry her, but like on Des’s season it will be transparent and boring.

Britt has clearly been quite free with her emotions; Kaitlyn guarded and her last experience with Chris certainly didn’t help her trust issues at all!

I felt so sorry for Kaitlyn and I cried when at the limo she said, “I don’t want to go in there.”

My guess is after the horrible edit Britt got and the fact that she said and did some faux pas, at the end they decided they’d have to give the gig to Kaitlyn instead. Then for whatever reason, they realized Britt would make a better season (or Kaitlyn would bring yet another loss) and felt they could still salvage the mess that had been made with Britt -> two bachelorettes.

As much sympathy I felt for Kaitlyn, I like her OK, bad if they reneged on the expectation they gave her – this is a business. It’s not an award show where the most ‘deserving’ wins. Or give it to the female most women like. If they keep having losing seasons, the show will get canceled and all the people employed by it will be out of that work. That’s what rides on the success.

Shows have their own focus groups, etc., and it’s somebodys’s job to be able to predict WHO will bring the most successful season as lead, as contenders – everything – and be right. As others pointed out, social media comments: tiny percentage of the audience. Sean Penn, Sean Lowe – at the hairy edge of the demographic they care most about. Do they represent millions? Can they imagine or predict what the season by either would be like? Not their expertise.

Re-evaluate Britt’s bad moments and they collapse into catty girl talk (showering) or pain from the system (lead kissing other girls, on the verge of proposal then favoring another girl) – which would not surface as Bachelorette (NO women present at all).

But either way, if not Bachelorette -> BIP.

  30. justforfun

    March 15, 2015 at 11:23 AM

According to RS on twitter, Kaitlyn got the gig!! YAY! They are keeping Britt in some role? Probably to keep the spoiler from getting out. Plenty of people doubt RS and will hold out hope that he’s wrong. Maybe Britt is co-hosting with CH!

  31. beebifidum

    March 16, 2015 at 1:04 AM

@justforfun, my guess is they are keeping Britt for a little staged ‘spin off’ during the season, i.e. they show her being voted off, she cries, she’s leaving the mansion, she collapses on the ground and cries more, CH comes and offers a tender shoulder, she cries, CH asks her what’s wrong (like he doesn’t know), she says she had some real connections to some of the guys (after meeting them for 10 minutes), more crying, then CH pretends to go talk to the producers, more crying, CH comes back, offers to Britt that some guy who Kaitlyn didn’t want is also leaving now, does Britt want to go on some dates with that guy (and have the cameras follow them around)??

Then here and there during the season we will get some short “where are they now” 5-10 minute montages and interviews showing Britt being really happy with her new hollywood boyfriend, and how it all worked out in the end (or at least until the season is over).

This will allow the season to go on as normal for Kaitlyn, while the Britt fans will get to continue talking about how pure and precious and sweet Britt is, and how Kaitlyn fans are bullies, and how mean the teamKaitlyn people were to Britt, and Britt never did anything bad to anyone, and if Britt was a scientist instead of an actress/waitress, she would already have found a cure to cancer, and because of all of this, she should have been the bachelorette after all.
