Now we’re only six days away from the UnREAL premiere. Maybe I should just start a countdown clock on the site to constantly keep reminding you what you’re missing. Did you take my advice from last week? Did you go back and watch all 10 episodes of season one on Hulu? If not, you should’ve. Fine. I’ll wait. Go watch it now and I’ll finish this column when you’re done. (Waiting…waiting…waiting). Ok, I’m done.
So what’d you think? Have I ever steered you wrong when I’ve suggested other TV shows in this column? “24?” Genius. “Friday Night Lights?” Best network drama in the last 10 years in my opinion. And those weren’t even shows that had anything to do with the reality TV dating genre. You come to this site, you read my columns, and you hear all the time about the inner workings of the production behind reality TV dating shows. Well, now you have an actual television show about it. A Peabody Award winning one nonetheless. Here’s another clip for what to expect this season:
You need to help me out here. I have a bit of a dilemma. I can’t decide which line from that teaser I like the best. Is it “We don’t solve problems, we make them, and then point cameras at them,” or “20 million viewers the minute he lays hands on white ass.” Tough call. But that’s what makes it so compelling. Because you know EXACTLY what they’re talking about. We know how popular these shows are on TV nowadays. It’s lines like these that get towards the root of WHY they’re so popular.
I think the biggest thing I’m looking forward to this season is the fact that UnREAL is casting a black suitor, Darius Hill, for the women to swoon over. That’s never been seen on network TV before. You have to wonder, what IF this has an impact on the reality TV dating show genre and we actually see this happen on reality TV? I think that’d be a major step forward from what we’re used to seeing. C’mon Darius. Show the way!
If Quinn and Rachel were able to pull off what they did last season, what devious tricks could they possibly be up to this season? I’m not sure, but I can’t wait to find out. Rachel is essentially tied to Quinn at this point. They’re a package deal. How much deeper are they going to delve into that relationship? Will there be a rift between them? And after what Quinn demanded from Chet last season, where does their relationship stand? Hey, considering Chet has dropped about 50 lbs since the end of last season, does that make him more bangable to Quinn now? I’m looking forward to seeing where that is headed!
UnREAL will premiere Monday, June 6th at 10/9c on Lifetime.
