Bachelor in Paradise 3

“Reader Emails,” Robby’s New Teeth, and Jordan Gets Hired

Steve-

What is with all of the food on the fantasy suite dates (and really other dates as well, but particularly the fantasy suite dates)? There were like 10 plates of food spread on the bed for two people the morning she woke up with Jordan. Huh? I noticed JoJo took one bite for the camera in each wake-up shot, but otherwise we never see anyone eat. It’s like they sit in front of a (either decadent or massive) meal and don’t touch it. What gives? Are they eating at craft services between takes? Is that even real food in front of them? So strange…

Comment: Because watching someone eat on television is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Not to mention microphones can pick up eating sounds.

I’m amazed that we’re 32 seasons in to this franchise, and people still care about why we don’t see people eat on this show. Well, no I’m not.

A few weeks ago when Lairen/Ben announced the show, Kaitlyn made a snarky comment, as well as liked some tweets from people saying they should have a show over Ben/Lauren etc. She also made a comment about never being treated well by the show….. Fast forward to tonight, she tweets about no invite and Shawn calls out the show for having Ben/Lauren instead of them.

I am sensing a major beef, for whatever reason. It does seem Kaitlyn has done a few things post show, but not a ton. Also, seems like they may be bitter ABC isn’t wanting to pay for their wedding?!?

Lovin’ juicy Bachelor drama…

Comment: Certainly seems like they don’t like not being included in things. However, I have no idea why the show tends to shy away from them. Maybe this is her punishment for spoiling her own season? Not to mention she has been pretty vocal about what it’s like being on this show and how manipulative it is. Maybe they don’t like that and think she’s too much of a loose cannon.

Help me Steve

I have made Bachelor/Bachelorette part of my bonding with my “bonus” daughters. We always pledge not not to “cheat” and check your site out but I know we all do ?

I told the girls there was a season where the winner came in the first limo as the runner up got sick on the way and was throwing up. I can’t for the life of me recall whose season of The Bachelor this was from?? Can you help me educate the next generation of Bachelor viewers??

And, we live down the street from Izzy “Onesie” Goodkind’s parents and can’t wait to see what she wears on BIP-lol

Thank you for your help!

Comment: I believe that was Jesse Palmer’s season, wasn’t it? And Tara from Oklahoma was the one who threw up? I just don’t feel like googling it right now, but off the top of my head, I think that’s the one.
________________________________________________________________

They just spent half of the After show talking about all the sh*t they’ve gotten since she chose Jordan. Didn’t we just spend two hours pretending we didn’t KNOW who she chose? I just found that funny.

Comment: Well, it wasn’t from the sh** they got for her choosing him. It was just stuff about him in general.
________________________________________________________________

Is it just me or did Jojo seem anything but happy on the After the Final Rose. She said the right words, but she wasn’t smiling much, she was tense, it just seemed very awkward between the two of them. The body language was very telling that things are not good. Usually the final two are gushing over each other, but she just sat there. Very odd.

Congrats on the stellar spoilers 🙂

Comment: Seems to be the running sentiment. I just didn’t see it any differently than past ATFR’s really. Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention.
________________________________________________________________

1. Were Jordan and JoJo lying about the house? Or are they just playing pretend for a while? I’m sure they did. Although, she did say “buy,” which I find hard to believe since, well, Jordan doesn’t have a job and doesn’t have any money. So either she bought it herself, or they’re renting.

2. I just read Andi’s book and boy, she tore Josh apart. What are your feelings on the book? Did you take a side in their breakup??–obviously after reading her book Josh comes off as the bad guy, but there is always another side. What is your take on their break up? Didn’t read it. But the stuff that was sent to me was stuff I’d heard while they were still together. Short tempered, controlling, and very jealous.

3. Continuation of the last question – do Amanda and Josh have a chance of lasting in your opinion? I really have no idea. Unless he changes his ways, I’d say no.

4. How come you think Robby doesn’t have a shot to be the bachelor? I don’t want him to be, but what’s your reasoning?

Comment: Too much negativity surrounding him, comes across as fake, is trying WAAAAAAY too hard, and just won’t get it.
________________________________________________________________

I’ve watched every season of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and have been reading your site for years. I don’t doubt your spoilers because not only are they almost always true, they just make sense. One thing that took me a while to be convinced about was how every time you tell the readers how you don’t see this couple walking down the aisle/making it last. I guess the turning point was Whitney and Chris. I was convinced they would make it and they broke up quicker than other couples. I don’t doubt for a minute that Jo Jo and Jordan will break up, I agree with you 100% there, I am I guess you could say confused on how this could be anything but a guess. If after the proposal, Jo Jo and Jordan are on their merry ways with the exception of meet ups in different locations, nothing is being recorded of them from the final proposal to what we saw last night, correct?

Whether they have huge blow ups on the phone every day or haven’t disagreed once, how would any of us really know except for what they divulge to their family/friends/producers. They just both seem utterly convinced in their minds that this is their forever love so wouldn’t they be telling family/friends/producers that everything is just perfect or are they really telling the producers of the show that they are struggling? I know my mother had heard my husband and I have one pointless argument before and she was convinced we would be getting divorced when it meant nothing to us and we forgot about it minutes later. Is there any signs besides just typical fighting and struggles with the rumors that make you convinced they are on the verge of breaking up? Again, I agree they won’t make it, I just don’t know how enough convincing evidence could even be there to assume that with both of them putting on such a happy front for the world!

Comment: Yes. I’ve seen and heard plenty of things. And I’ll leave it at that.
________________________________________________________________

Hi, Steve!

I was a big fan of Bachelor Pad and was disappointed when it was cancelled. The reason I heard was because it was too trashy for the network. But then they brought Bachelor in Paradise to the network, which is ten times trashier. What changed?

Comment: No, Chris Harrison said the reason BP was changed to BIP was because they didn’t feel BP was true to the franchise. The franchise isn’t about making money and competing in challenges, so they wanted to make the summer show more like their “big brother,” the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette.”
________________________________________________________________

Hi Steve-

Longtime reader, first-time writer. Your website makes the show so much more entertaining.

Chris Harrison is typically obnoxious with his teasers, but when he beats a dead horse it is so uncomfortable and almost painful to watch. Case in point: how many times they teased Jordan’s relationship with Aaron last night and how persistent he was to get an answer out of Jordan. He has also done it before trying to get Nikki to talk smack on Juan Pablo. It is such bad interviewing!! Do the producers make him uncomfortably prod those questions? Do you think he realizes how horribly awkward it comes off?

Keep the spoilers and commentary coming!

Comment: He’s the show mouthpiece. He has to ask what is pertinent and relevant and what people are curious about, whether he thinks he’s gonna get an answer or not.
________________________________________________________________

Hi Steve!

No question, just wanted to congratulate you on a great season. Also, I 100% agree with you that JoJo and Jordan will not last. No way… She’s delusional!

Good job!

Comment: Mark another one down in that column.

Hi RS

Long time reader here! I just want to say how great I think your site is! People need this type of site to remind them that reality tv is still just that-a tv show!! People get so caught up in the lives of the leads on these shows its scary!

If these “readers” were really going through every article you write they would see that you are a very kind and compassionate person. I can’t count how many times I have read that you “feel sorry” for the contestants-like Olivia for example. You also wrote a few times I believe that you felt bad for JoJo for being blinded and you hoped she would figure out the truth about these guys before it was too late. I agree with many fellow RS readers that something about JoJo seemed way off last night. She almost gave me that ‘deer in the headlights’ feeling at times. I especially noticed on Kimmel that Jordan seemed very chatty-more so than past winners. I felt like he was almost, at times, talking for her or over her. We will see! Well thanks. I appreciate it. Not everyone sees it like you, and that’s ok. People who do nothing but whine and bitch and hope that I’m wrong every season are just jealous. That’s all.

I do have one question-do you think ABC thought/thinks that having no engagement or a couple that has broken up before the finale is a horrible thing for the series? I was telling my husband last night that I would have been more excited to see JoJo bring Jordan out and basically put him on blast? How would that make for bad tv? I mean it is more realistic right? I know if it ain’t broke why fix it-but I am really hoping we see some change up on this show soon. It’s getting too boring to watch (if that’s even possible).

Thanks for all you do! Keep up the spoiling and stay true to yourself!!!

Comment: I think it’d be great for ratings and talking points, but could set up a negative feeling towards the following season. As stupid as it may sound, most people want to watch and see a love story at the end, regardless of if it works out in the long run. But on that 11th episode, it’s much more intriguing for two people to get engaged at sunset, then break up.
________________________________________________________________

Hi Steve,

Thanks for another great season of spoilers. I’m ready to move on! I don’t usually watch BIP but I do read your site. It amuses me that people will believe the most ridiculous scenario but they won’t believe that Jo Jo and Jordan are putting on a show for everyone. I think in a lot of cases they believe what they want to believe. Jo Jo was not a happy girl last night. She looked upset and ready to burst into tears. I hope to make it to your party next year! I would never win the trivia game. I am not good at remembering details of previous seasons. It will still be fun to attend. Looks like a good time. Anyway thanks again!

Comment: She has done what I thought she would. She stood by her man. She’s not letting the tabloids and stories about Jordan get to her. Why? Because Jordan told her they were untrue, so she believes him. Oh, ok. Sucks for her and she’ll learn the hard way unfortunately.
________________________________________________________________

Hi RS,

Can I just say YAWN? Is it just me or are the seasons getting more and more boring? I am not sure if it’s because I read your blog or the crop of contestants is just getting more and more shallow and less dynamic.

I have been following your blog and every season the people I watch with threaten me not to read. But I of course can’t help it. Have to sit there through every episode with my mouth shut when I already know what is going to happen. But seriously, the writing is ON THE WALL.

Wish that The Bachelor franchise would require people with actual interesting lives and not a bunch of media wanna-bes. It’s very boring.

Anyways, thanks for your unbiased, truthful reporting!

Comment: May be boring to you, but 8.5 million people disagreed last night. The show is what it is now. Next season will be more of the same. Same show, different people.
________________________________________________________________

Hi Steve,

Congrats on another accurately spoiled season! As far as JoJo & Jordan go, I was one of those people that thought she didn’t look too happy last night on the ATFR, but she seemed much more relaxed and affectionate with him in the other interviews (GMA, LIVE w/Kelly & Kimmel). If you’re right and they are on the rocks or just faking this right now, why would Jordan be so quick to relocate to Dallas? Is any truth to them already buying a house together or is that just a ploy to get people to buy into their happiness? Her friend randomly posted a tweet last night saying she brokered the deal for their new house. That seemed a little suspect to me. Why feel the need to randomly tweet that out? Because her friend Kathryn LOVES inserting herself into this show. She’s a piece of work I tell ya’. She has to let everyone know every four seconds that JoJo is her best friend. People like that annoy me. These two are putting on a façade. People can choose to believe them or not. I don’t.

And Is there any truth to the rumor that Jordan had already secured this new SEC gig before going onto the Bachelorette? Is this job located in Dallas? This was answered on page 1 today.

Also, they replayed the same MTA trailer of BIP last night during ATFR but they had obviously cut out the clip of Amanda and Josh in bed. Do you think there were complaints to the network about the nudity or or some other reason they cut it? Amanda has been shown in most all of the previews, but not Josh (just a distance shot of the two watching fireworks and then his voice proposing to her at the end). He seems to play a big role this season so why wouldn’t they show him, especially since he’s one of the biggest names in the cast?

Comment: I’m sure Amanda and/or Josh might’ve said something. Your question made sense, until last night when they didn’t hold back in showing everyone Josh is on the show. I’m sure that had to do with E!. “Famously Single” ended last night, which now means ABC can promote Josh on their show. I’m sure it was something to do with him appearing on two different networks the same night. So isn’t that convenient? The week after “Famously Single” ends, Josh shows up on BIP. That wasn’t a coincidence.

BIP is painful to watch and I’m always glad when it’s over since I feel oddly compelled to watch. All that has changed.

I’m as cynical as all of RS’ readers, but last night with Chad’s comments to Sarah, put me over the edge.

I deleted the season off my TiVo and went to bed shaking my head more than ever at ABC for getting into bed with this loser all for the sake of entertainment — now at someone else’s expense.

You can also throw Daniel in the mix. What a box of rocks he is.

I agree Kimmy, ABC airing Chad’s offensive comments to Sarah was way too low. Chad has serious emotional issues and needs help. It is not funny or amusing to watch someone bully someone else. Daniel on the other hand is just an idiot. A not real bright, shallow, self-involved, chauvinist. They both think way to highly of themselves for no reason that I can see; ugly is ugly no matter the package.

kimmy and jlal, the thing you guys are ignoring is that this is a very much scripted show. They might as well call it Bachelor Shore or Bachelor Hills. It is every bit as fake as Jersey Shore or Laguna Hills was. So Chad was just playing his role, and reciting his lines. And it is very obvious. Just call Chad “The Situation”.

The show was better when it was Bachelor Pad. Was less fake. Was still fun and made fun of contestants, but at least had a real component to it.

ABC’s low blow was inserting Chad’s offensive comments in a voice over, making it appear he said them to the group/Sarah.And then to show his confessional from the following morning. It was clear from social media that Sarah (and others) had no clue he made fun of her physical appearance. WTF. That was just mean.

I found myself REALLY liking Nick. I dont care that he wants fame and is now a wanna be model. He comes off level headed and charming. (wonder how Andi feels watching this show).

So I went on a rant, on the BIP page, about the blatant disregard of ethical behavior exhibited by BIP and Chris Harrison in ignoring the obvious mental health issues Chad is facing. Being the “Reality TV Guru” that you are, Steve, how real was Chad’s out of control behavior? My assessment is that it was pretty real considering he is not an award-winning actor!

Does the show (and all of those affiliated with it), as well as the network, have no obligation to at least attempt to help this guy? He is clearly in meltdown mode. If there are known and obvious mental health issues with one of the contestants (Bachelorette) or “participants” (BIP), and the show perpetuates the problem (environment, alcohol, triggers, etc.) that the show could be held legally liable in the event of any up-coming disaster this guy may experience/impose on others (suicide, homicide–he sure talks about it a lot, domestic violence, just to name a few).

I feel like episodes of “UnREAL,” such as the woman’s suicide, the police shooting, etc., could actually come to fruition on one of the above mentioned shows at this point. Where does the liability lie? The content has become concerning!!

I don’t understand people continually calling these shows “scripted”. Heavily edited and manipulated, for sure, but aside from possibly taking cues from producers and asking certain leading questions they want you to ask there is no script. Chad was 3 sheets to the wind drunk out of his mind. He could barely speak, much less form coherent thoughts. He wasn’t reciting lines from any script. He and Daniel are just stupid, and basically obnoxious as$holes. Hopefully someday they’ll have the appropriate amount of embarrassment that they ought to be feeling now.

  7. crushonspivey

    August 3, 2016 at 2:23 PM

vessel, by scripted it means they are working off a general overview script but not word for word dialogue. The scene is set for them, the overview of conversations, what they want them to discuss. Then they add booze and throw in some twists. And even do reshoots.

Lauren Conrad basically admitted this was how they did “The Hills” today, and is the model for basically all other reality TV as well.

  8. cjscjs711

I think the word, “scripted” has become the catch-all word for the manipulations perpetuated on “reality shows.” They are not scripted in the traditional sense of having a typed script that the actors take home, memorize, and deliver in multiple takes with direction from a director. But, we know scenes are not as ‘organic’ as they are made to appear to the audience. We know contestants are manipulated, coaxed, coached, staged; not to mention the out of place voiceovers that are mixed and matched with different clips. Sharleen Joynt has said that even the “girl chats” are staged – that is, planned and set up by producers. Everyone pretty much agrees that alcohol is used to the fullest extent possible in drawing out whacky and other ‘out of character’ behavior.

Is it fair for someone, captured on TV while drunk, to later say, “That’s not the way I am at all.”? I know I can recall many occasions when someone I know has behaved extremely differently when drunk – almost like a different person. I think people do bear responsibility when they know they do not handle alcohol well, yet they put themselves in a position in which they know in advance there will be free-flowing alcohol. Anyone who’s seen even one episode by this franchise MUST know there is alcohol flowing – lots of it.

So—- when people say, “That’s not the real me,” should they be saying, “Yes that is me. That’s exactly how I am, at any time, under any circumstances”? I would say “No” to the latter.

I haven’t watched yesterday’s BIP yet, but it sounds like Chad either overplayed or over-drank.

Further, given all the manipulations, I think we have to be very careful about parsing out our own medical or psychiatric diagnoses. In 1964, professional psychiatrists tried to do it with Barry Goldwater, psychoanalyze him from TV and news clips (I was reading about this in an article about why psychiatrists are reluctant to comment on Trump). Their analyses were scathing and Goldwater sued them for libel; judge said even psychiatrists couldn’t accurately do it from this and Goldwater won the case. I really think we should appreciate that these people are willing to take the chance on these ridiculous shows of being made out to look like either a bland, or dashing, or sexy, freaky, or disturbed individual and we be somewhat forgiving.

I watch BIP to see boobs, not see someone acting like a boob. Between Bachlette, MTA and now BIP how the f can Chap been given this much screen time? If previews are to be believed he some how returns after being booted. Was there more than 1 minute devoted to the Jubilee/I forget his name date? I want tops coming off not guys shorts after he supposedly crapped himself.

BIP was just like UnREAL. I imagine how giddy the producers were when they got the soundbite of Chad talking about Sarah’s arm. Just like purplerayne said, ABC threw it in after the fact to look like he said it in front of the whole group. Bad enough that he said it at all, but come on ABC, that was a pretty disgusting move.

Found myself extra annoyed at the Chris Harrison character. Quit pretending to be this gallant guy coming in to save the day when it’s obvious you’re loving every minute of the drama.

  12. LM111

    August 3, 2016 at 9:10 PM

Oh, forgot to mention Daniel. Very average looking dude (face-wise) with a better than average body. Since I’m a “face” girl, I’d give him a low 7 on the scale of 1 to 10 (and yes, I’m being generous because he’s a flat 5 on face alone). Now add in personality for good measure and he becomes a 3 (we have to be honest here people, the body counts for something. No?).

So… for him to talk about the women not being attractive enough when they were all out of his league… THAT was comical!

  13. lucyw4

    August 4, 2016 at 8:34 AM

Haven’t watched BIP yet, but I agree 100% with your Daniel rating…3 is very accurate.

His ITM’s were so awkward (on Bachelorette), as were his mannerisms…he’s a mess.

Am I the only person in the entire viewing audience who didn’t believe one iota of the Chad over-the-top outbursts and behaviors on BIP? It seemed obviously staged from the get-go to me. My take on it is that they brought in Chad (the ‘roid rage guy) and Lace (the crazy chick) to orchestrate the “most dramatic opening episode ever”. I believe they offered him a free vacation if he would come in and act the fool for one day, after which they would send him home for his “rude” and aggressive behavior. Nothing that transpired made any sense at all. Lace and Chad yelling insults like some sort of demented foreplay, followed by heavy petting, more insults and put-downs, more making out, and then we are supposed to believe that he suddenly “went over the line” and started taking their sex play as real insults, and she stormed off in anger because he “disrespected” her? And then suddenly Lace is being pursued by the mad stalker whom everyone on the show is now afraid of? I didn’t see on single face that showed real fear, and never saw any genuine anger on ANYONE’s face. And then Chris showing up to send him home? Terrible acting. I loved last season but the first episode was so unbelievable it turned me off the rest of the season. I could cite more observations as evidence that the whole thing was obviously staged (as well as Daniel’s bad-guy play-acting also), but it’s just not even worth it for me anymore, after Tuesday’s “performance”.

I’ll check back in when the next Bachelor starts filming. But I’m done this season with BIP. It’s too bad, since I really enjoyed last season. It may also have been completely manipulated by the producers, but at least it APPEARED somewhat believable.
