You are listening to the Daily Roundup here as part of the Reality Steve Podcast. I am your host Reality Steve. Thank you all for tuning in on this Tuesday. Obviously big news coming out of Bachelor Nation last night. We have a new Bachelor for season, what are we on? 29, I believe? Gosh, I probably should have looked this up before I started talking.

Yes, season 29. Joey was 28. It will be Grant Ellis, who was eliminated last night in Seattle. I’ll give you my thoughts on that. I will tell you how everything kind of went down yesterday. And I give a timeline of things there. We’re going to talk about episode six last night. It was the, basically the burial and the funeral of Sam McKinney.

And then immediately after the show ends, of course, he sets out a video, sends out a video on his Instagram, thanking everybody for their support. It’s like this guy couldn’t be more phony. If he tried. I’m interested to see about the men tell all taping this Thursday. I’ve got some big brother news and another report comes out yesterday from the, it ends with us.

Off screen drama, and it’s even deeper than we thought, according to the latest reports. We’ll get to all that momentarily. So, let’s discuss this. Our new Bachelor is Grant Ellis. Yesterday, in the afternoon, around 2 or 3 o’clock, I had tweeted out, because I had heard, that they were going to announce the new Bachelor right when the show ended last night on the East Coast.

And, I knew it wasn’t going to be part of the show. So as my tweet said, I thought it was going to be released online and it was all the media outlets had it within three minutes, which means that they were informed earlier in the day that it was going to happen and. They had their stuff ready to go because you can’t have Grant Ellis as your bachelor one minute after the show ends if the media wasn’t tipped off about it.

I wasn’t tipped off about it or else I would have told you it was Grant. So about 30 minutes into the show last night, I tweeted out, look, I have no idea. This is not 100 percent confirmation of anything. But the name that I was hearing was Jonathan was going to be named the bachelor and it obviously ended up not being Jonathan and ended up being Grant.

But again. I had no idea, you know, when I say two weeks after filming ends of Jen’s season that Devin is engaged to Jen, that wasn’t, oh, this is a name I’m hearing, but I’m not sure, no, I put it out there, Devin is the winner. For Jonathan last night, you know, we were out, we were 90 minutes away from the announcement and I was just like, hey, this is what I’m hearing.

I had no idea if it was right or not, and I said that specifically, but of course, I’m sure there will be people that will hold it against me for the next, I don’t know, 20 years because they’re miserable. But, I’m fine with Grant as the pick. I like the pick of Grant. Now, did Grant get a lot of airtime on GenSeason?

No, didn’t get a one on one until last week. And it’s not like he was involved in any drama. Do you wish there was more promotion about it? Yes. Are you wondering why? They did it this way since we never see them announce the bachelor this way. Just, Oh yeah, here it is on somebody’s Instagram page and, or not an Instagram page, the media, you know, not GMA, not Jimmy Kimmel, not on a mental all taping, not on an after the final rose.

It’s just the media knew about it and they all put it out right when the show ended. So it was, it’s, it’s very different, but Robert Mills, executive producer for the show and head of alternative programming, his title is, I don’t know exactly what his title is, but he’s the head of alternative programming at ABC.

And he even tweeted out last night after the grant announcement came, he said, we are announcing grants so quickly. So people can still apply to be on his season. If you think Grant is potentially the man of your dreams, you know, someone. Who is apply ASAP. So that’s why it’s a month in advance. Filming doesn’t start for another month.

So this gives them some time to make the announcement. Now you can, I have no, obviously I have no reason to lie about this. You can ask Susanna Summers, bachelor data. I left her a voice note right at the beginning of the episode last night, and it brought me back to the LA times article. 27th, about.

Where the show addressed the fact that they’ve been terrible, basically, with their diversity. You know, Bennett Grabner, executive producer of The Bachelor, said, We didn’t have a black lead in this franchise for 15 years and that’s inexcusable. It created a vicious cycle and it’s taken a lot of work to get back to a place where we feel at least we’re working for the positive.

And he said, I’m gonna be frank, we let Matt James down. The season went wrong on so many levels. We did not protect him as we should have. The finale of that season was the darkest day I’ve had in this franchise. That’s the executive producer talking about it. He said, we’re not always going to get it right.

We’re going to make mistakes. We’re going to move forward, but we’re not going to shy away from difficult conversations. And they also said the lack of Asian representation amongst the men this season for Jen, he said, that’s on us. We didn’t do what we needed to do. Our hope is that one day they will see Jen and realize this is a safe space.

We’re not saying it will solve everything, but it is a step. And then the biggest quote, and this is the one I relayed to. Susanna last night, right when the show started, before we knew who the Batchelor was, was him saying, and we talked about this the day after this article came out, was Bennett Grabener saying, we have a long way to go, but we’re committed to getting there.

If you don’t want to see a black love story and Asian American love story and interracial love story, then maybe bachelor nation isn’t for you. This was a major, major article in what arguably the second biggest paper in all of the United States in the LA times. And I left this message for Zana when I didn’t know who was going to be the Bachelor and I said, you know, this brings me back to that LA Times article from two months ago when a higher up on the show basically said, if you’re not ready for Asian, I think I said, you know, Asian love and black love story and interracial love story, then maybe Bachelor Nation isn’t for you.

I said, I think it’s going to be really weird if they just roll out another white dude two months after saying that and they didn’t. So not that I knew who it was. The name I, like I said, was Jonathan, who obviously is not white either. It makes sense. Now, if you go back to that article, I think they would have gotten a lot of shit if they just rolled out another plain white dude.

You know, I know everybody was clamoring for Blake Moines and Greg Grippo. And it just every year people want to go back. Peter Krause every year. People want to bring back these alumni. What about Peter Krause? What about Ben Smith? What about Greg Grippo? Every single season when we’re talking about the next bachelor, everyone wants to bring somebody back.

And what happens every year, they end up taking somebody from the previous season. It’s just, I think we need to let that go. Yes. Ari was the last one where they brought somebody back who hadn’t been on TV in five years, but I think people need to let the whole Greg Grippo, Peter Krause thing, Blake Moines thing, just go.

I, I don’t think it’s happening because I feel like I hear it every single season and every single season, it doesn’t happen. Like how many times do we need to be. Put our hand on the stove and get burned before anybody believes that that’s actually going to happen. They just chose Grant Ellis, and I’m not saying he’s a bad pick at all.

I like Grant, but if you’re going by the fan base, are they as into Grant as they are into Peter Krause, Greg Grippo, or Blake Moynes? Probably not. And Grant is on their screens for the last six weeks. But he didn’t get a lot of time. He certainly didn’t get a lot of camera time. He’s not in the episodes all that much.

He got eliminated last night. We didn’t meet his family. So this is now what the fourth bachelor we’ve had that wasn’t from the top four Juan Pablo wasn’t, and, you know, just going over the names, obviously Joey was a Clayton wasn’t Matt James was not on, he was, he was set to be on Claire season, but then COVID hit Peter Colton, Ari, Nick, Ben.

Chris Soules, Juan Pablo. So yeah, basically, ever since Brad Womack’s first season, we’ve only had two bachelors that finished outside the top four. Now we have three. Clayton, Grant, and if you really want to count Matt James, because he wasn’t on a season. Yeah, I just, you know, I guess what Grant finished fifth or sixth.

I mean, I guess, clearly Sam McKinney finished seventh because he was sent home before Grant and Spencer didn’t get roses. So. Technically, what, what place did Grant finish in? Fifth or sixth? I guess they can fight, him and Spencer can fight over who was number five on our list and who was number six. I guess we don’t really know, but we know he finished outside the top four and he’s only the second guy since Brad Womack’s season who was cast that finished outside of the top four and the other one was Clayton.

So, it’s interesting. It’s a certainly an interesting cast choice. I’m fine with it because I like Grant this season. But it doesn’t matter if I’m fine with it. And when the announcement was made and I tweeted it out and everybody saw who the announcement was, you know, it was the same kind of response.

People that love grant. Oh my God. Love this choice. People that didn’t. Why him? Why so early? It’s like, you’re going to get the same kind of complaints every season, no matter who they chose this season. If they would have chose Marcus, people would have complained. If they would have chose Jonathan, people would have complained.

If they would have chose Jeremy, people would have complained. Like, they’re going to complain, find a way to complain about anything. So, that doesn’t really, I don’t think, affect them whatsoever. I think he’s a solid choice. Is he the front runner? Is he the guy that everybody wanted this season? No, but it doesn’t mean he’s not going to be a good bachelor.

So it’s just another, again, I say it every season and I know you think I’m lying or I’m exaggerating. I’m not, I don’t care who gets the gig. As long as there’s another season, I’m happy. And we know there’s another season now because Grant’s our next bachelor. And just from watching him this season, it seems like a good dude.

So. We’re all for it, you know, and they announced it and you’re asking, why did they announce it so early? Why’d they do it this way? No fanfare, no announcing them on TV. They didn’t even say, Hey, after the show, like I was the only person online that spoiled the fact that, Hey, you’re getting your new bachelor announcement tonight.

Nobody else put that out there. The show didn’t even put that out there. Hey, pay attention online. We’re going to announce the new bachelor tonight. They didn’t even announce it. I did. That was the only one. So. It is kind of weird. Like why no fanfare? I know you did it a month early and you can still have women apply.

I get that. Almost like how Jen was kind of third wheel behind Daisy and Maria and everybody thought it was going to be Daisy or Maria. And it ends up being Jen. You would hope that Grant would get a little more fanfare than this. Just weird. But why do they do it the way they did? I have no idea. I’m not them.

So it’s very hard to say why they did it this way, but they did. So we accept it. We move on. Grant’s going to be our new bachelor and let’s support him. This podcast is brought to you by way. You know what that means? It means I’m going to talk about my hair for the next minute. My fine, luscious hair. You can make the determination if it’s luscious, it’s definitely fine.

It’s definitely thin. It’s definitely not all there. Now that I have a YouTube channel, you guys have seen my hair more often, right? What do you think of it? Does it look shinier to you? It does to me because I’ve got fine hair and way has sent me their shampoo and conditioner, and it’s exactly what I need for volume and shine and deeply hydrating.

Way helps me find your way. To good hair days every single day. It’s perfect for what I need. I was using generic shampoo for the longest time. Way sent me their product and boom, I can notice the difference. Maybe you can’t see it on my YouTube channel. I can feel it. And that’s, what’s most important to me.

If you have fine hair or you have happy medium hair. Wash with way to happy medium with their medium shampoo and conditioner. If you have thick hair, give your thick strands the hydration they deserve with the thick hair shampoo and conditioner, or you can take their hair quiz just to find out what kind of hair you have wash your way to healthier hair with shampoos and conditioners made just for you.
