One of the all time Christmas classic movies yesterday, I talked about the Christmas classic song. Do they know it’s Christmas and how there’s six lines in that song that don’t really make any sense to me whatsoever, but one of the all time Christmas classic movies, obviously.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo. This is the third in the National Lampoon’s series. The first one was Vacation. The second one was European Vacation. Then they make Christmas Vacation, which is an all time classic. And one of the guys that was supposed to be behind it as a director had directed Home Alone, Harry Potter, Gremlins, Goonies, Christopher Columbus was his name.
And he said in an interview that came out this past Monday He started working on the film and then he met Chevy Chase and he decided he couldn’t go through with it. So he tells the story and he says, at the time I desperately needed to make a film. I realized I couldn’t work with the guy and he talks about the meeting that they had.
He said, I sat down and talked about how I saw the movie, how I wanted to make the movie. He didn’t say anything. I went through about a half hour of talking. He didn’t say a word and then he stops and he says, and this makes no sense to any human being on the planet. But I’m telling you, I have probably have never told this story.
40 minutes into the meeting chevy says wait a second. You’re the director and I said, yeah, i’m directing the film. He said oh I thought you were a drummer. There was a jazz musician of the same name, Christopher Columbus. Now, this doesn’t really surprise because I don’t even think it’s a worst kept secret in Hollywood anymore.
It is well known that Chevy chase is one of the biggest a holes in Hollywood. If you watched that show community with Joel McHale, Donald Glover, they’ve spoken out publicly about that. Hell, I think he was fired from community for being a racist. And saying something on set and, or just being difficult to deal with on set.
Just one of the all time jerks in Hollywood, which really sucks because again, if you grew up in the eighties, like myself, all of Chevy Chase’s movies were hilarious and he was hilarious coming from Saturday night live and all that, but yeah apparently that’s the way it went. Now, could this be Chevy just trying to be alpha male here?
Like you really took a meeting with a guy who was going to be the director of your movie? And after 40 minutes, you didn’t know he was going to be the director. That could have just been Chevy being an asshole. Like I’m better than you. I don’t care that you’re the director or whatever. I mean, this is the type of behavior, but like you, when you hear this story, you’re not the least bit surprised because he’s apparently one of the biggest jerks in Hollywood, but hearing that story and coming from Christopher Columbus.
Who ended up getting the Home Alone script after that and ended up doing Home Alone he obviously made out pretty well after that, considering Home Alone made almost 500 million at the box office. And one final note here as another, we have another short podcast, not a lot going on this week.
We’ve got some wicked news. Wicked will be available on streaming on New Year’s Eve. Not only that it’s coming out, Apple TV, prime video, YouTube, Fandango streaming services. You can order the DVD and Blu ray and 4K UHD. Do people actually buy DVDs? I didn’t even know that was a thing anymore. Those aren’t coming until February 4th.
But you can get it on streaming, and there’s going to be 3 hours of unseen footage. Are you kidding me? Including A sing along alternative feature length version. I mean, you don’t have to twist my arm. Wow. We get a sing along version of this? I can sing along now in my house by myself? Count me in. I don’t know how much it’s gonna be.
Obviously, you have to buy it or rent it. This isn’t free on streaming this early. You buy it, it’s probably, my guess is 13. 99 if I had to guess. 14. 99. So many other lists of bonus materials, three hours of bonus materials, deleted and extended scenes. I mean, so many other things on here. You can Google it, Google wicked streaming bonus footage, and it lists all the things that you will see on the bonus footage feature commentary with a director.
John Chu feature commentary with Cynthia and Ariana. Just. Set talk, Glinda teaches Elphaba the art of the toss toss. Shiz Gazette introduces Fiero. I mean, all these things that, you know, imagine this was a two hour and 40 minute movie and they still have three hours of a bunch of deleted and extended scenes and whatnot.
