You are listening to the Daily Roundup here as part of the Reality C Podcast. I’m your host reality. Steve, thank you all for tuning in on this Monday. A good show for you today. We’re gonna talk very briefly about the weekend. At Coachella for Bachelor Nation, we’re also gonna discuss American Idol, the first 12 of the top 24 finalists performed last night.
And I’ve got some thoughts and I’m gonna warn you ahead of time. None of ’em are very positive. I’ve just, I’m having a real struggle with idle nowadays. We’re also going to talk about a few new shows on mostly the streaming services. Did you see that there was a reunion this weekend of one of the all time classics from the eighties?
Something I’ve talked about numerous times on this show. And speaking of that, a major, major bummer for me as there’s another fan expo coming up with one of my all time favorite movies that I will not be able to attend. We will get to all that momentarily. So if you were on social media this weekend, you saw that there were plenty, plenty of Bachelor Nation people hanging out at Coachella.
This is a annual thing. They love doing it. A lot of ’em are there in collaboration with sponsors and you just see a lot of them drinking and partying and just living it up at Coachella. As I’ve said, it’s not for me. Then again, I’m also almost 50 years old, so clearly it’s not for me. But even in my twenties, I mean, I’ve never been to it or stagecoach, and it just a, a music festival in the middle of a dirt bowl doesn’t sound appealing to me at all.
I don’t care if I was 25, 35. 45 or now almost 50. It just doesn’t appeal to me. I just have no interest in in ever going, but I understand why these people go and do what they do. The other thing Coachella has been used for in the past as well as stage coach, as we know, which I believe is either next weekend or in two weeks, is let’s set up our pre relationship storylines for Bachelor in Paradise Now.
It’s too early to know if anything was the wheels were put in motion for anything for this upcoming season? I have no idea, but I would say the thing that I got messaged the most about this weekend, I remember I got four different text messages from four different people in regards to the fact that Kelly Flanagan was hanging out with Pilot Pete and.
That immediately got people’s wheels turning. And is this a, is this a thing? My guess is no. I just look, I could be wrong, I guess, but I. I, I, I don’t see that being the case. I know that obviously Pilot, Pete has just recently moved back to Los Angeles and obviously Kelly is what, three or four months removed from an awful relationship that she was in, that she has told on a couple podcasts.
Now I look, I’ll try and see if I can get an answer behind the scenes. But I wouldn’t all of a sudden get too excited about this. I, I don’t think this is a rekindling between these two, based on what I saw on social media, it looked like they were just at the same event because they were both involved with the same collaboration.
But. Hey, weirder things have happened in this franchise. People have definitely gotten back together with people that they once trashed and were very critical of. So I guess you can’t put it past them, but I don’t get the impression that this is, oh, Kelly and Pilot Peter back together. It just, I don’t think that’s the case, but I’ll see if I can get an answer.
All right. I wanna talk American Idol because last night. The first 12 of the top 24 finalists performed. And this was in what? Ani Hawaii, which is where they go seemingly every season now. And this was filmed, I believe, back in January, so I’m sure there’s spoiler sites out there that already know who made the top 12 and whatever it is, or I don’t even how many taken to the live show?
I’m assuming it’s 12 when the live shows start. And I don’t even know when the live shows start, but I, I, I had some thoughts. Watching Idol last night, and like I said, not a lot of ’em are positive and it’s not like I’m gonna rip the singers, but overall, it, it very well could be that there’s just a lot of singing competitions out there now, and the idol that I see now and in recent seasons just doesn’t, it just doesn’t match up to what we saw in the early aughts.
I just don’t see a star. On any of these seasons, are there some good singers? Yeah, but nobody, at least in the top 12 that performed last night jumped out to me as like boom, winner. Now I do have someone that I pretty confident is going to be in the final three. It doesn’t mean they’re the best singer.
But we know Idol is a popularity contest. A lot goes into your story, A lot goes into what you look like. A lot goes into how you’ve been packaged by the American Idol edit team. So I’ll get to that in a second. But there’s a few things that I wanted to point out. The first one was the first singer, the whole first singer of the Night, Che.
He lives in the United Kingdom. He’s got a wife and three kids that he literally said, live in the uk. Hey, I’m all for people coming from overseas and making a living in the United States, and I don’t really remember what exactly the qualifications are to apply for American Idol, but I thought for American Idol.
You kind of had to live in America. Is that not a thing? You know, we’ve had people come from other countries, but they were currently living in the States when they auditioned for Idol. To me, it seems like Che lives overseas. He lives in the uk. What if he wins American Idol? I don’t think he’s going to, but wouldn’t, that wouldn’t really make any sense if the American Idol for 2025.
Was a singer from the uk but again, maybe I don’t know the rules and regulations of the show. I just thought it was weird. ’cause I get the impression he doesn’t live in the state. It’s not like he was born in the UK and lives in the States. Then it would make sense. He says his wife and three kids live in the uk.
I’m guessing that’s where he lives unless he chooses to not live with his wife and three kids. But I don’t know, maybe someone can help me out on that one. I have no idea how that works, but that had me. Scratching my head. Here’s something that I’ve said for quite a few seasons now. I understand we’re in different times than we were when American Idol started out.
I understand we’ve been through a myriad of judges. This is Carrie Underwood’s first season. I was very excited to see her as a judge, but if you want to talk about underwhelming as a judge, I’m sorry, Carrie Underwood fits that description. I love Carrie Underwood. I love Ka Perry. Are they good judges on this show?
I can’t really say they are. Then again, I can’t really say Luke and Lionel are. You know why? Because they never criticize ever. I don’t expect Simon Cowell. I know we’re not gonna get that anymore. We’re not gonna get a judge anymore on a singing show That literally tells somebody that wasn’t a good performance.
In fact, it was terrible. Nobody’s ever gonna say that anymore ’cause we’re in different times. I think you can be critical without being harsh. Name. One time, Lionel Carey or Luke said anything critical about any of the singers last night. Really, all 12 performances were as great as they made them seem last night.
Of course they weren’t. Then again, and I’m not just blaming those three, go back to when Katie was a judge. And I love Ka Perry seen her in concert twice. Going to see her again in May when she comes to Dallas. I love Ka Perry. She sucked as a judge. They all suck. There’s nothing I’m learning from these people’s performances.
How many times do I have to hear a judge say, you made it your own. Great. But just because they made it their own doesn’t mean it was any good. I just, I. It’s very frustrating because you want them to give constructive criticism. They’re not even coming close. They’re not even touching the line of, wow, that was a little bit negative.
And anytime, even if they go down a negative route and say one thing that, well, maybe that performance was and they immediately fall up with, but you’re great. You killed it, you rocked it. The crowd loved you, great performance. It’s like, wait, was it a great performance or was it. You think they could have done better?
Like you can’t have both. And these judges just honestly, they suck. There’s nothing constructive given to any of these singers. It’s just one giant love fest. And I’m sorry, go listen to all three judges critiques of all 12 performances last night and find me one negative sentence that was said. And I’ve been talking that negative, like, oh, I’m sorry, Jimmy.
That wasn’t very good. I didn’t like the song choice. I didn’t like the outfit. I didn’t like the tone. No, you won’t even get, maybe you could have done this. It was just, you rocked it. The fans love you. I mean, the fans are there performing in front of the fans. Every single one of the fans is waving their arms or they’re clapping.
So they can say that for every performance. The fans loved it. Well, that’s ’cause the fans are planted there and told to cheer on every performance. It’s just, it’s, it’s not the show that it was not even close. How about that guy that sang Luke’s cover? That’s my kind of night. Did you think that was a good performance?
I thought that was about as corny and hokey as you could get. Now look, I understand music is totally subjective. What I think is corny and hokey, you might thought was the best performance of the night, and vice versa. A performance that I liked you might think wasn’t any good. Music is very subjective, I get it.
But let’s be honest with ourselves. If Simon Cowell was a judge on that show last night, he probably would’ve had a negative thing to say about eight or nine of the 12 performances. It’s just too, it’s just too campy now. Everything is so good and you killed it and you made it your own, and it, I’m sorry, it’s just not, and what I’ll say for the performances that I liked, I thought Zalie is good.
She’s a good singer. I can see her going far in this competition. The one person that I think is definitely, you can just slot into the final three. I don’t know if they’ll win, but I think they’re headed for the final three. And that’s because of the story that they’ve gotten, the edit that they’ve gotten.
And this audience really likes country is Slater Nally. I see that kid in the final three. Do I think he’s the best singer in the competition? No. Do I think he’s gonna be some country star someday? Not really. But for this competition and this show, he is exactly. What they love having. I could absolutely see that guy in the final three.
So yeah, idol’s fallen off for me. It just is. I wish the judges would actually give constructive criticism and be a little more, Hey, I think you should do this. They just applaud and just hype up every single singer. And I’m sorry, you didn’t have 12 great performances last night. Not even close. And is there a reason that Lionel Richie wore a four XL Hawaiian shirt?
What? What was that? It looked like a tablecloth. That was so bizarre. I mean, I get they’re in Hawaii and I have no problem with him wearing Hawaiian shirt. That thing was so big on him. It literally looked like a nightgown. I don’t know what he was doing. So that’s it for idle. This podcast brought to you by Factor.
