Daily Roundup 5/9 – Yesterday’s Speaking Engagement to College Students, Survivor’s Misdirection on Wednesday, Chris Harrison Back on TV, and Idol’s Top 7

Alright, let’s talk a little bit about Survivor, because Wednesday night was another episode where we were down to seven people and.

Survivor gets very tricky with their editing. We know this because sometimes the editing seems so obvious, but until the episode plays out, you just don’t know. And I think everybody that watched Wednesday’s episode as we’re watching it. Based on some of the edits we’ve gotten past seasons as we’re watching it.

I think most people were convinced, oh my gosh, they are setting this up for a Joe Blindside because Kyle says, you know, when they were all talking the the solid four, Kyle, Shaheen, Joe and Eva. Kyle says in the beginning of the episode, this is the four that I want. We’re good. Joe says, there’s really no scenario where we don’t get to the final four.

Eva’s talking about how strong she is with the Final Four, and she’s in the best place in the game. It was almost so over the top that you’re like, oh boy, here it comes. Joe’s gonna get blindsided this episode, and then they’re showing. Mitch and Mary and Camilla trying to recruit Kyle and being like, Hey, we can flip it.

We gotta get Joe now. If he doesn’t win, we can get him. And then you saw the immunity challenge where Joe literally was declared the winner until Jeff did a double take at the puzzle and realized Joe was off by one block and Camilla ends up winning. I mean, it just would’ve set up perfectly for a Joe Blindside because.

You know, in all his post-show interviews he’d say like, look how close I was. You know, if I turn that block over, I’m safe. And who knows what happens to me in this game? And they set it up all episode that Joe was gonna get blindsided. And what happened? Six votes to one Mary goes home. So it was, they tricked us.

Sometimes they trick us in a way where it’s like, okay, it’s gonna be this person. Oh shit, it’s this person. Or they trick the other person and it’s a blindside, but. They really leaned heavily on, they wanted the audience to think Joe was going home almost too much because it could be, they looked at it as, there’s seven people left and we know there’s a strong four alliance if we just play this out.

This looks like Mary Mitch, and. Camilla are the next four or the next three going home in some particular order because the final four have just been talking nonstop. Shaheen, Kyle, Joe, and Eva have been talking nonstop about how solid they are. They’re the core four, whatever they want to call themselves.

And as a TV show, you wanna present compelling television well. Having that solid four, having the majority and having the ability to pick off those next three in any order that they want. They’ve gotta do something to throw a wrench into things and make us think, well, maybe it’s not gonna be that easy.

So they give us the episode they did on Wednesday, and yes, what Mary and Camilla and Mitch. Did is something they have to do. They have to try and get somebody to flip. And the one they wanted to get to flip was Kyle. Then they would’ve had four, three, Joe would’ve been gone. And then Eva and Shaheen would’ve been the next two picked off, assuming they didn’t win immunity.

But so, to me, looking at it now, now that the episode is over, this is one of those episodes where I see as a television show and a production team. They’re like. W we’ve gotta throw, so we’ve gotta throw a wrench into this and do a whole episode making people think that Joe was about to be blindsided, because otherwise it is so obvious who is going home this episode.

So they just needed to throw us look every single episode going into tribal, except when the merge happens. ’cause usually there’s like three or four people that could get eliminated when it’s down like this and you’re down to six or seven players. It’s usually between two people at the tribal council.

And this one was between Joe and Mary, but then when you see the votes play out, hell if we know how close Kyle was to flipping, but when the votes are six to one, it almost says like, yeah, production knew the whole time. Well, obviously production knew that this was a six one vote and they edit the show after the fact.

So that’s why what I’m saying, like they have a six one vote, but the episode certainly didn’t make you think it was gonna be a six one vote, is what I’m saying. And then the other weird thing of the night, which nobody has been able to explain, I read Dalton Ross’s post-show interview with Mary. Nobody seems to know why when Mary got her torch snuffed, that David stood up.

Like he was about to read her eulogy. Nobody understands why he stood up and Mary was very open and honest in her post-show interview with Dalton Ross saying she didn’t enjoy her time out there and she felt like she was on an island and. Well, she was on an island, but an island by herself. She didn’t feel like she had any friends.

Nobody talked to her, and she felt very anxious going to Ponderosa because she didn’t know how those people felt about her. But she said they were all waiting for her, and she has developed good friendships. But while she was in the game, she said she did and not enjoy her time on the show at all. It wasn’t until after the show in Ponderosa where she realized, okay.

It was a better experience than it was on the island. It was basically better for her once she got eliminated, but she was very, very open and honest. Was brought to tears a couple times talking about how isolated she felt out there because she felt like nobody liked her. So go check out that interview with Dalton Ross on ew.com.

If you’re interested, speaking of podcasts, interview show, TV show, podcasts, whatever Chris Harrison took to his Instagram the other day. And said he and his wife Lauren Zema, are going to be back on television, which will show be a podcast on a new daily TV show and podcast called Through the Drama.

It’s gonna start on Monday. It’s gonna air on the Merit Network, which is Dr. Phil’s network, something that Chris Harrison signed with last March. Remember I talked about this about a month ago, maybe two months ago, and I was like, Chris Harrison joined Merit Media. Dr. Phil’s company in a press release last March, and they said he was going to produce a new dating show and host a new dating show, and also have a morning show.

And for a year, it’s been a year, we haven’t heard anything about this. And then right around the time in December that Tua got canceled, Chris Harrison’s podcast that he did with Lauren just went away. He never gave any sort of warning. He’s never talked about it since on any of his. Social media channels as to why his podcast stopped.

I, I still don’t understand why it stopped. Maybe he’ll address it on Monday show, but it is got a show launching. It’s a TV show on the Merit Network. No idea what channel that is. No idea what cable stations cover it. Or have it as one of their channels. It’s gonna be called through the drama, and it’s basically going to be a 30 minute show at 12:30 PM Eastern Time, 9:30 AM Pacific time every day or Monday through Friday.

And it focuses on the latest news, entertainment, and lifestyle topics. And they says they still are working on a dating show. So who knows if that’s coming, but I guess if you really. Missed your fix of Chris Harrison since he basically disappeared from the podcast game in December out of nowhere and never told anybody why, and they’ve never addressed it since.

Well, on Monday after basically five months off TV and podcast, he’s back with through the drama with, and he’s co-hosting it with his wife, Lauren Zema. Finally, let’s talk about American Idol. The top seven was established on Monday night. I haven’t talked about it yet. But let’s talk about it now. The top eight performed, it was one of those, you know, judges things where they do it every year.

They give these singers three songs to choose from. They choose one, and then they have to guess which judge did it for them. I didn’t care about any of that stuff, but who went home? Well, Josh King went home and Madie Pruitt was also in the final two, and the judges decided to save Maddie Pruitt, the 15-year-old high school girl from Tennessee.

So. When they made, when they started the top 20 or 24, I said my final three was Slater, Maddie and Gabby Simone. Those were who I thought, I thought Slater was a, a lock for Final three once they announced the top 24 and then, or like when they started singing in Hawaii, I said, this guy has got American Idol fan base written all over him.

And then I said, Maddie Pruitt. And then Gabby Simone. I think I said Maddie and Gabby. Last week or two weeks ago when they were at top 14 maybe. Well, considering that Maddie Pruitt was in the bottom two of when it was down to eight, probably means she’s not long for the show. She was saved because the judges saved her.

But usually when you’re in the bottom at eight, it’s very tough that you’re all, all of a sudden gonna make it for the next three or four weeks. However many weeks of this show are left. So. I’ll still keep Slater Nally in my top three. I’ll still keep Gabby Simone in my top three. Who do I think might make it, I guess for me, I think people really like Thunderstorm and I think people like Brianna, Nicks the whole, you know, mother that never thought she’d ever make it on Idol.

I mean, her story certainly is something that fans of this show would love. I don’t think Jamal Roberts wins, and I don’t think John Foster win or in terms of top three, so, and Maddie Pruitt, I don’t think is making the top three now that she was in the bottom two. Of, of the eight, I really think Slater and Gabby in my eyes are locks for the final three.

And then I gotta find who that third person is between I, I don’t think it’s John. I don’t think it’s Jamal and I don’t think it’s Maddie. So between Thunderstorm and Brianna, I’ll go with Brianna. I can see that. Fans seem to like her. Like I said, great story. Thunderstorm is 29 years old, like he is the oldest you can be to be on this show.

So maybe that’ll work against him, but again, you just never know. We have no idea where the votes are leaning. Outside of who the bottom people are every week. So we don’t know as an audience what, who the audience is really going for. We just see who makes it through. But we don’t get any sort of chart of, you know, where the votes are going.

’cause if they did that, then we’d obviously know if somebody was getting first place every week, it would be, well, there’d be no suspense come finale night. So I’ll go with a final three of Gabby Simone Slater now, and Brianna Nicks. So let’s see if I’m right and just remember. I did say Gabby and Slater.

I said Slater, when they were in top 24, I said he would make Final Three and Gabby at top 14. I said she would make final three. But I also said Maddie, and I think she’s probably gone next week. Anyway, thank you all for listening. Really appreciate it. Follow me in Apple Podcasts. Also, rate and review, but you gotta hit play.

It’s the only way it counts as a download. Sports Daily coming up in an hour from now. If you wanna check that out again, thank you all for listening. Have a great weekend. And I will talk to you on Monday.

See.
