Daily Roundup 10/6 – More Thoughts on the Taylor Swift Album, How the Online Discourse is Similar to the Bachelor Franchise, & a Love is Blind Contestant Speaks Out on IG Story

You are listening to the Daily Roundup here as part of the Reality. Steve Podcast, I’m your host reality. Steve, thank you all for tuning in on this Monday. A few things we’re gonna talk about. We’re gonna dive into a little bit more about Taylor Swift. You know, when I talked about it in Friday’s podcast, it had just come out.

I listened to it numerous more times during the weekend. I consumed a lot of social media opinions about it over the weekend, and I’ve come to a conclusion. I will tell you what that is. We’re also going to discuss Love is blind. Both Patrick has spoken out. Anna has spoken out. Casey has spoken out.

That’s the one I kind of want to dive into based on what she said on her Instagram story over the weekend. So let’s get started. As you know, I just listened to. The life of a Showgirl Taylor Swift’s new album, her 12th album. I listened to it for the first time all the way through on Thursday, so I was able to talk about it on the podcast Thursday night.

You heard that on Friday? Well, this weekend I spent a lot more time listening to it, and I listened to, I would say, hmm, I, I’d say I listened to the album from beginning to end. Maybe not every song, but I’ve heard every song at least two or three times. There’s some, I’ve listened to six or seven. I am not one that is going to talk about significance of lyrics.

I understand that a lot of people wanna break down lyrics. I’m not gonna tell you what my favorite lyrics are and be like, Ooh, look at the shade she threw on that one. Ooh, I don’t care. I honestly don’t. I judge and, and I’m, maybe I’m in the minority, but I judge music that I like on, do I want to keep listening to this when it’s on, not, I gotta go by their lyrics.

It’s like, do I enjoy the beat? Do I enjoy how it sounds in my car? Am I bopping my head to the music in my car? Or when I’m just listening to it, do I just enjoy the song? I just don’t wanna overanalyze lyrics. I just don’t see the point. I understand with Taylor, maybe it is a little bit different than if, I don’t know Doja cat releases.

I don’t know why Doja cat just came into my head, take anybody, I, I understand her lyrics are more dissected, I think, than anybody else’s, unless someone makes it obvious they’re writing a dis track about somebody else. I guess when Drake releases a song, or Kendrick Lamar releases a song, everyone’s gonna dive into, Ooh, are they going after each other?

But with Taylor. People definitely broke down Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics and Drake’s lyrics. When it comes to Taylor, it is that times a hundred. They just want to take every single thing that she says and either be like, this is about this person, or this is about, this is situation, and that’s fine. That’s for those people.

I’m not judging this album. By her lyrics. I don’t judge any album by her lyrics. Do I like some of the lyrics in her song? And I like some of the one-liners in past songs, of course, because it seems like when you’re listening to music, I think what makes it relatable, and I think one of the reasons why people like music, because they get to a point where there is a lyric in the song.

There is a chorus sometimes. Maybe it’s the chorus, maybe it’s a line that. That is the line that makes you love the song. Like it’s the one that you relate to the most, so you’re like, boom, I like this song because I love hearing that in the song, and it basically just shoots it up. My song board of, oh my gosh, love this song.

That’s what we find relatable in music. And there are certain ones that Taylor has where I was like, yeah, this is a really good lyric, but. I guess I just don’t sit here and want to dissect all the lyrics, and I honestly haven’t listened to the album following the lyrics either. I’ll start learning the lyrics the more I listen to it.

That’s the way it’s always been with Taylor. Now there are so many articles out there and there are so many things out there where you see the lyrics. So yeah, maybe a little bit for me. I’ve seen so many lyrics broken down. I understand. You know, the Woods song is a lot of references to Travis Kelsey’s genitals great.

Like I don’t think it’s a sexual song. Like there are people out there that are bothered by what she sang in the song would, and the things that she said. The metaphors that she made referencing Travis’s junk. Okay, that’s fine. But, and I guess it would be a person by person basis ’cause you can’t possibly know this, but if any of you who are disappointed in her singing in the song would like wop or freaky sexy girl, you don’t have a leg to stand on.

Honestly. You’re bothered by Taylor’s metaphors, but you’re not bothered by. Just out and out. Hey, I will describe what I’m talking about when I’m talking about genitals. Like it’s like just not, I don’t know. I can’t get worked up over lyrics. I just can’t. I don’t care that much. Neither should you, honestly.

You really shouldn’t. So one thing that I did notice from this past weekend, looking at social media. And their responses to Taylor’s album is, I think once again, we’ve just gotten to a point where it’s cool to hate on Taylor Swift. It just is like, there are plenty of people out there that are just shitting on the album and shitting on, oh my gosh, this and oh my gosh, that, and I’m not gonna say every, because I can’t possibly quantify that, but I would think a lot of the people that are.

Are not Taylor Swift fans. There are certainly some Taylor Swift fans out there that don’t like the album. I think they’re in the minority because a lot of the people that I follow seem to be posting about Taylor Swift All weekend and any video they posted, they included a song from the life of a showgirl in their Instagram story.

But there are some out there I’m sure that didn’t like the album or are like, eh, it’s okay. I haven’t, I’m not sold on it yet. I like this one better and this one better, but clearly it’s not like every time Taylor Swift releases an album. That album is now your favorite album. It’s okay to like lover. It is okay to like midnights.

It’s okay to still like 1989. It doesn’t have to be, Ugh. Well this wasn’t as good as 1989, so it sucked. No, you can like different albums and different songs for clearly. Different reasons, but what I did notice is a lot of the hate out there towards Taylor and towards this album, I think is just people hating just to hate.

Because I don’t know if you saw this on Threads, somebody put it out there on Threads and noticed it. They took a bunch of screenshots. I can’t find the account now, but they basically took a bunch of screenshots of accounts that were shitting on Taylor and shitting on the album, and. They were screenshotting the exact accounts that were doing it and what they wrote, and then when you click on those accounts, zero posts, one, you know, zero followers, and it was like, okay, it’s bots like, there’s clearly a hate campaign going on out there for Taylor Swift.

I’m not here to say that it is basically being put forth. By the Wayfarer Group and Justin B’s people. But to say that there’s no way that any of the negativity towards Taylor Swift is coming from that camp. I’m not gonna say that either. Like we know what’s kind of happened in this case we know, and when a bunch of bot accounts are just saying a bunch of shit about the life of a showgirl and criticizing Taylor.

When they don’t have any other posts that they’ve ever posted about, it’s like, okay, what’s making somebody do that and who is behind it? It just makes you think, you know.
