Last week, after the survivor finale aired, I said, clearly there is something going on with Sage. She’s the one person this season that wasn’t on social media, at least in the Final Five, and you can extend it out to other contestants from the season.
Just literally was off social media and I found that to be a little bit odd. She did have one post, even though she’s private, somebody screenshot it, put it out there on the internet, and she basically was saying like, look, I don’t make Survivor my whole life and I enjoyed my time on the show, but I’m kind of moving on with things.
And then when everybody had done their exit interviews. On Thursday and on Friday when I talked about it, I said, the one I hadn’t seen yet was Sages. Well, we finally saw Sages. She did it with everybody. She made the media rounds, e online, ew.com, Sharon Tharp, Mike Bloom. She did it with everybody, and basically she gave kind of the same answers to everybody as well.
Here’s the one she did with Dalton Ross. He said, I think for people that watched the finale and maybe more specifically the after show, the question they would have for you is Now, are you okay? Because you looked like you were going through it during the after show, which is entirely understandable because having to go to a champagne party after a really tough final travel council, it’s a huge ask.
And you’re far from the first person to have difficulty making that jarring transition. And she said, yeah, dude, it’s complicated and I wish I would’ve five hours to talk about it because there’s so much nuance. I’m not here to necessarily throw anyone under the bus. But the way tribal was edited, it left a lot out, which is okay.
It was Savannah season. I’m super happy for her. The edit makes sense for her. Tribal was brutal, dude. Like people did not like me. And so at the end when I was saying I’m afraid that I hurt people and I don’t feel like it is a comfort right now, I actually just watched that for the first time last night and it brought back so much.
And then there’s this painful awareness of cameras on you. I’m like, oh, this is going to be misinterpreted as I’m bummed that I lost the game. I don’t give a crap about the game, but the energy, there were constant eye rolls. Every answer I gave, there was an argument. Even the question where I said, Alex, you said when you walked out, that’s what you get for playing both sides.
He came back at me and was like, no, you were fed wrong information. He was saying that that was a wrong perception, and I just felt so confus. And in that moment when I said, I don’t feel like I deserve comfort, because you could feel the disdain towards me from them. And then the answer was like, oh, no, Sage, it’s just a game.
I felt like I was being gaslit. And then later on in the interview, if you watched the video of it, he said, what happened at the after show? How was the rest of the night for you and the rest of your time in Fiji while dealing with a lot of swirling emotions? And she started to tear up. She said it was rough.
I felt alone because I generally thought we were all playing a game. And so yeah, it’s hard to talk about. There’s so much more there that I don’t think I’m unnecessarily allowed to talk about. And even if I was, I don’t know if that, I’m ready to talk about it, but it was a familiar loneliness, like feeling just wildly misunderstood.
But more than that, confusion. I have a really hard time tolerating confusion. It makes me overwhelmed, and so I was just confused and I was just in my room processing and finally getting to. You know, she talks about being emotional and I, you know, you could tell, I mean, uh, when somebody that’s on a show and everybody else on the show is talking about their experience and posting pictures and posting videos and telling you to watch the next episode, and one person who we knew made it to the finals isn’t even talking about the show at all.
You knew it wasn’t because, oh, I’m just not a social media person. No, it’s because they clearly didn’t feel like the rest of the other people on the cast felt. And that sucks for her and clearly final tribal, apparently it was a lot worse for her than what we saw as an audience. Maybe we’ll hear more about it from other contestants, but it sounds like at least Sage’s take on it is she got to final tribal thinking she had a chance, and then when she sat down.
And was reading people and answering their questions. Basically nobody was as high on her game as she thought they were. And then it just becomes a, is it a, he said, she said, is it a matter of perception where she might not think, she might think that everybody was rolling their eyes in against her, or was she just reading too much into it where it was just like, Hey, it was just a game.
We didn’t feel you played as good of a game as Savannah and Sophie, and it could be just that. I don’t want to dismiss her feelings, but we just don’t know because we weren’t there. But I did see some of the other contestants say tribal was a little more brutal and people were going at and questioning Sage.
Let’s talk a little SNL because this past Saturday night of Saturday Night Live was. The fall finale and we found out a couple days before, maybe it was the day before, maybe it was on Friday, we found out that Bowen Yang is leading leaving the cast. And so this was his last show. He’s been there I believe, seven years.
He’s worked his way up. He’s one of the feature performers, but his career’s kind of taking off. So he’s got the Loss Colus podcast. He was in both Wicked movies. He’s writing a a movie now with his podcast partner, like he’s kind of outgrown. SNL. He’s one of these people that has used SNL as a stepping stone to do other things and all the props in the world.
I think he’s funny. He didn’t get as much run and wicked for good that he did than he did in the first movie. It seemed like he had a lot more screen time in the first movie and was a lot more relevant in the first movie. But either way. He has, he’s a bigger star than SNL and just like a lot of people who lead SNL, they wanna do different things and all the, uh, power to him to do that.
The other thing, the other headline from Saturday Night Live this past weekend was Cher was the musical guest and she’s being accused of lip syncing, which I. I mean, the accusation is a hundred percent true. All you had to do was watch the performance. Now, this is nothing new when it comes to SNL performances because so many people who go on SNL, especially ones that dance, hell, Britney Spears back in the day, did the same thing.
There’s always backing vocal tracks for their musical guests, and they just sing over it or lipsync to it, and there’s gonna be times where they’re not singing, and yet the. Backing vocal tracks or playing. And that’s exactly what happened with Cher. I don’t think she sang at all. I think she literally lipsync the whole song and you know, is it because she’s 79 years old that she’s allowed to lip sync and given a free pass?
I don’t know. I wasn’t looking for Cher to do a bring the house down performance on Saturday Night Live. I just, I just know there are so many. Musical guests on that show that sing with backing vocal tracks over it so they can take a break sometimes in between or just lip sync at times. So what she’s, what she did is really no different than a lot of people.
So I don’t even know why this is much of a story, but when you get a headline story on ew.com saying, share accused of lip syncing, and I’m like, yeah, a lot of ’em do. Finally, you know, sometimes on this podcast where I come to you and I’m like, this TikTok trend is all over my F for you page. I can’t get it outta my head.
It’s driving me nuts. Well, we’ve got a new one. I’m sure you’ve seen it by now, but it is the one beat challenge, right? The uh, say the word on beat challenge. I don’t know where this thing comes from. I think it comes from China, I believe. It’s just literally the simplest game that I’m sure now when I spend time with family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we are going to be doing this, especially my niece and nephew.
They’re gonna wanna beat the other one at it, but this one Beat challenge is driving me absolutely nuts because it’s literally every other video on my for you page, and I can’t not watch it and do it myself. As I’m looking into the phone now, I’m not really good at it. Yeah, when it’s like, and basically it’s just an, it’s just an eight count where they show you eight pictures of something and you gotta say ’em eight in a row.
Hoo. Shoe, shoe, shoe glue, glue, glue, glue, glue, glue, shoe glue, glue, that thing. But then they, but you know, the first two are usually pretty easy. Then the third one gets a little bit harder. Then the fourth one gets a little bit harder. And, and it’s just, it’s driving me nuts. ’cause I wanna play the, I play the game every time I see it and I can’t not play it if I don’t see it.
But then when I screw up, I get mad at myself. So if you don’t know what I’m talking about and you have a TikTok, go to TikTok, do a search for one beat challenge and go have a field day with it because you’re not gonna want to not play it. That’s all I’m saying. Anyway, thank you all for listening. I really appreciate it.
Follow me on Apple Podcast. Also, rate and review, but you gotta hit play. It’s the only way it counts is a download Sports Daily coming up in an hour from now. If you wanna go check that out. Again, thank you all for this. I really, really appreciate it, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
