Daily Roundup 1/19 – Fun Facts from Friday’s Live Re-Watch, New Show with Two Favorites of Mine, Bret Michaels Kills a Poison 40 Yr Anniversary Tour, & My LOST Re-Watch

So I mentioned Grease two there in the open, and Michelle Pfeiffer who says that she regrets doing that movie, but the very next movie she did after that movie was Scarface. So somebody thought. She killed it in Grease two and said, yeah, let’s put her in Scarface, one of the all time, most popular movies.

Anyway, she’s been nominated for an Academy Award, I think three different times. Fabulous. Baker Boys and a couple other movies. I read it in Friday during the the Rewatch, but she’s gonna be back on our television set on a show called The Madison, which I think is, is, is, I guess, is gonna be a spinoff of all those Yellowstone.

Type shows. Taylor Sheridan has created the, uh, the Madison and she stars, she co-stars with Kurt Russell and they are members of a New York City family that re relocates to Montana after suffering a tragedy in the family. And there’s a bunch of stuff that goes on, I guess. But what’s interesting. Is when I saw this and I’m just kind of reading it, I’m not into, I have not seen any of those shows.

Yellowstone Landman, 19 23, 18 83. Uh, did I say Landman? You know, I, I just, those shows just don’t appeal to me. And I know you, you say, how did it appeal to you? You’ve never watched them. Yeah, true. I’ve just never been into the whole western thing. Just not my scene, sorry. But Michelle Pfeiffer’s gonna be co-starring this with Kurt Russell.

And then I see that Matthew Fox is making a return to television Now, Matthew Fox is a guy that I’ve always loved first on Party of Five, and then obviously as Dr. Jack Shepherd on Lost, which I’ll get to at the end of this podcast of where I’m at with that. But. He’s a really, really good actor and he kind of left Hollywood after lost, and I think he moved to the Pacific Northwest wife, a couple kids, and he just got outta the Hollywood scene.

They said he’s come back and done things here and there, but he hasn’t really been on a episodic television show in in years, but he’s going to be in the Madison. That honestly itself might make me watch it. I’ll give it one episode, but I hope he, I hope he’s in this a lot. Will Anette is also in it. It’s only six episodes apparently.

But yeah. Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, will Anette, uh, the guy from Suits. Patrick Adams, um, Bo Garrett from The Good Doctor and, and Matthew Fox. So I would think he’d be in all six episodes. It’s only six episodes. I gotta believe he’s been in me, every one of ’em. But, uh, I just, I wanted to point that out, that always, always been a fan of Matthew Fox and I’m glad that he’s back.

I don’t know how long he’s back for, if he’s, if this was just something that brought him out of hiding. But I like that guy a lot. I read a headline, poison Singer Brett Michaels kills 40th anniversary tour by demanding six times band mates shares, said Drummer Ricky Rocket. Ricky Rocket is the drummer for poison.

Did I know that before I read this article, the name sounds familiar or maybe I’m thinking of Ricky Rackman. Was he on K Rock back in the day? I, I don’t know, but. So I guess Poison officially shelved their plans to have a 40 year anniversary reunion tour because Brett Michaels wants 600% more than the rest of his band mates and Rockets said What it came down to was CC Deville.

Bobby Dahl and I were all in, and I thought Brett was, but he wanted the lion’s share of the money to the point where it makes it not possible to even do it. It’s like $6 to every one of our daughters. You can’t just walk. You can’t just work that way. I don’t do this for just the money. I do have love for this.

Absolutely. But at the same time, you don’t wanna go out and work really hard just to make somebody else a bunch of money. Now look, I wasn’t gonna, it’s not like I was gonna go see Poison play. I know. Haven’t they been touring recently or they’ve done those tours with the relive the eighties bands and stuff like that.

Regardless what this did, this story just kind of brought to my attention. ’cause I’m not really familiar with the music business and how it works. When you’re in a, when you’re a solo artist, obviously you, you make money on sales and, you know, concert and that’s all worked out in your contract. But when you’re in a band, obviously, I would assume the lead singer makes the most, and it’s established when you, I guess start your band like, Hey, I’m the lead singer of the band and I’m gonna make this percentage of the money.

And then you, the drummer make this and you the bassist make this and you on keyboard make this. It just seems like, how does that not cause tension? You know? Because I know you’re signing a contract right when you start and everybody knows how much you’re gonna make. But I gotta believe that, that’s just kind of weird.

Like what about something like in sync back in the day, there’s five of ’em, right? There was five. And they started the Insync band. They didn’t know how big they were gonna be, but once they got big, all five of them, like Joe, you’re telling me Joey Fatone was making the same amount as Justin Timberlake, even though, well maybe he wasn’t.

I, I don’t know the dynamics behind something like that, but, uh, all of, no, I think Justin was the main singer on most of the songs. Right. So yeah, he, I would think the lead singer, not to mention the popularity factor. I always think that something like that had to cause tension and probably still causes tension to this day.

Like I don’t even know what the going rate is. If you’re in a five person band and you’re the lead singer and you’ve got four backups that sing, backup, and play instruments, like what, what do they get? Does the lead singer get 50 and then the other four split? The other 50%? I, I. Anybody in the music industry want to hit me up?

I’m just curious. I’m sure it’s not the same, it’s not industry standard. It’s gotta be different for every single band. It’s not the same every single band. Because you know what, if you have a band of only three people, I And, and what’s the and and how you divvy it up, I gotta believe is based on how much singing.

One person in particular does, but just like the popularity factor of it. Like I understand people aren’t going to see poison to see Ricky Rocket play drums. I get it. You’re going to hear Brett Michaels play the hits. You want to hear Brett Michaels sing. Every rose has its thorn. I get it. He should make more is six times more.

Not reasonable. It seems like, it seems pretty excessive, but these two, the, this band has been together for, like you said, 40 years. So why, why all the, why would it be different now? Why would Brett Michaels say, well, I want six times now versus back in the day, why wouldn’t you just do it and have it the way it is other than greed?

I dunno, it just kind of fascinates me. I dunno why this story made me think about this because I’m not a huge music guy, but it just got me thinking about how bands work and how money is divvied up and how in the world, once a band gets popular, money doesn’t become an issue because clearly not everybody in the band is making the same amount of money.

And finally, I just want to give you an update on my lost rewatch and how it’s going. I’m basically about halfway through season three, and I’ve loved the rewatch. Like I said, I watched every episode when it aired all six seasons, and ever since it ended, I’ve maybe re-watched episodes that were important here and there.

I’ve never sat and did a full rewatch. I don’t even think of one season of the six seasons of the show. I don’t think so. Watching it back now, it’s amazing how much I actually remember from this show. Now, there’s also plenty I don’t remember, ’cause every single episode you gotta remember is a flashback of one of the characters.

Something that happened to them before they got to the island up until the end of season three. Spoiler alert, but. Obviously the main characters are Jack and Kate and Sawyer, and they usually have the most, Jack, I think, has three flashbacks episodes in, in season one. He’s got three or four in season two.

Halfway through season three, he’s already got two. But some of the things that I didn’t remember about the show was I kind of remembered certain people’s backstories, but there’s so many and there’s so many details when people cross paths. Before they ever got on the plane, like seeing that stuff again.

I was like, oh yeah, that’s right. They ran into each other at the airport, but then didn’t even realize it. I think, and you know, we’re, we’re getting to the peak performances coming up on some of these two, but outside of the main people on the cast that were in the plane crash, Jack Sawyer, Kate Hurley, Jen son.

I’ll tell you what, I think Desmond’s character might be one of my favorite characters ever. I think that guy is awesome. And maybe it’s just the accent. Maybe I just dig that guy’s accent. But not only is he awesome, he is very vital to this show and this mythology of this whole island and what he brought to the table.

And we haven’t even gotten to the best episode of the show, which is season four, episode four called The Constant, which in my mind was the best episode that show ever. It was unbelievable. But he is so good on that show. And then of course you can hate him. You can think he’s totally creepy, but Benjamin Linus and the performance that Michael Emerson gives as Benjamin Linus is just, you can’t keep your eyes off of him.

He is so riveting to watch, especially when he like, I remember that, you know, spoiler alert, it’s been on, it’s been out for 20 years. If you haven’t watched it, I’m sorry. But when he first appears on the show, he pretends to be somebody that was captured and he doesn’t tell them he’s one of the others.

And that mind manipulation that he’s running, even though I knew. He’s the leader of the others. Rewatching it back when he tells everybody in the hatch, I’m Henry Gale. He has me convinced until he doesn’t. But there are just so many things that I had just kind of forgotten. But if you want a good rewatch that has sci-fi to it, a mystery to it, an edge of your seat, kind of where is this going?

What is happening here, like every episode of Lost is like, you know, once we got going into end of episode of season one and into season two, it’s like they’ll answer a couple questions every episode and then present you five more and you’re just like, where is the whole time you’re basically going, where’s this all going?

Now there’s a big debate. I, I understand on how the show ended. I’m in the camp that I loved how the show ended. Absolutely. I did not hate the ending because I wasn’t one that was looking for the minutia of, well, why didn’t you answer this question or this question? And are there plot holes in it? Sure, there’s plot holes in every single television show.

It’s impossible not to have certain plot holes or certain things. I mean, you’re also dealing with a sci-fi show, so you have to suspend disbelief that any of this stuff could even happen. You know, an island moving, you know? But just. The idea and then else, you gotta remember, when this came out in 2004, there was nothing like it.

We had never seen a show that dedicated every single episode to tell you about these people that crashed on a plane on an island, crashed on a island in a plane crash. And every episode, you’re finding out more and more about those people.

Of their life before they got to the island, before they boarded the plane. And some of it is really interesting. Some of the backstories are like, eh, like the episode I literally just watched in episode three was, uh, a flashback of Jack when he went to Thailand and got his tattoos. Probably the worst episode they ever did in terms of the backstory.

Things that were happening on the island were relevant. But that backstory of Jack was like, who cares? And by Ling was the actress and she played like a tattoo art. Like it was just like so irrelevant. And when you compare it to other people’s backstories and finding out more about them, it’s like, great.

Jack was once in Thailand and got tattoos. This is really, really dumb. Just not a good episode, but, and look, it’s coming up. I already know. Obviously the last episode of season three is the game changer. And again, it’s one of these things where you kind of had to be there. You kinda had to be in the moment living at the time in 2006 when season three aired that that episode happened.

I can’t tell you, and you’re gonna think I’m being hyperbolic here, but that was in in my life. Look, there’s plenty of TV shows. I’ve never watched some really good ones. I’ve never seen Sopranos Breaking Bad The Wire, any of those. But I’m telling you, the last episode of season three of Lost is the most holy shit moment I’ve ever experienced watching television, putting myself back in 2006.

There’s nothing about that episode when I come up on it in the next, I think I have about 10 or 11 episodes before I get to it. Am I gonna be remotely surprised by it? It’s still probably gonna hit pretty hard now that I’ve watched all the episodes leading up to it. But you have to understand there was no internet back then.

Nothing was being spoiled back then. There weren’t really message boards per se, that we’re talking about shows on a weekly basis. And when that episode happened. If you had watched every episode up until then, it was mind blowing. There’s no other way to describe it. Nobody had ever pulled anything off like that in the history of television to where you had this whole show’s head turned upside down.

The whole show’s premise is completely flipped on its head. Maybe that was the phrase I was looking for. And I, I, I can’t wait to rewatch it. I have rewatched that episode probably, I don’t know, five, 10 years ago, but to see it again now after watching everything leading up to it, you know, I just remember I totally forgot how season, season two ended, and, and I’m like, okay, that’s right.

It’s like bringing stuff back. Oh yeah, that’s right. Jack and Kate and Sawyer were captured by the others. They let. Hugo Go. They let Hurley go. But then as we start, as I started season three, I’m like, wait a second. I don’t remember how Jack, Kate, and Sawyer get back to everybody else. Now I’ve just gotten to the point where Sawyer and Kate have gotten back to them, but I don’t remember how Jack gets back there.

I know he does because I remember that final episode of, of season three of what’s happening on the island. I know there’s a freighter coming up and stuff like that, but. I just wanted to say if you really want a good rewatch, even though the show is 20 years old, 22 years old, came out in 2004, you, you cannot go wrong with lost.

It is very good. It’s not a show that you can have on in the background. It’s not a show that you can like fall asleep to and then just, oh, I fell asleep in the last 15 minutes. I’ll just, I’ll just start the next episode. No, no, no. You have to literally pay attention to everything that goes on or else you’ll be completely.

Well lost in it because there’s so much info that they pack into every episode and so many things that cross over and so many things that you almost have to take notes on this show. I’m not taking notes, I’m just watching it. And even now, having watched two and a half seasons over the last 10 days, there’s al, there’s already stuff that I’ve forgotten about.

Wait a second. Wait, when did they cross and who, when did this and Oh, wait. You know, I forgot that sun cheated on gin before they got to, they got on the plane. Like I, there were just so many little things. I’m like, oh yeah, that’s right. So anyway, that’s enough promotion for lost. They’re not, they’re not paying me anything, but I just spent 10 minutes hyping up.

Lost for you. It is a hell of a show. It’s great writing, great drama, good mystery. Definitely has a sci-fi element to it to where you’re like, okay, this is. This is getting a little weird. And again, I’m only two and a half seasons in, and I already know I’m not even at the weirdest stuff that happens on this show, so I gotta prepare myself for that.

But anyway. That’s it. Go watch. Lost. Anyway, thank you all for listening. I really appreciate it. Follow me on Apple Podcasts. Also, rate and review, but you gotta hit play. It’s the only way it counts is a download Sports Daily coming up in an hour from now. Again, thank you all for listening. I really appreciate it, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
