Podcast #180 – Coronavirus Talk with the “Bachelor’s” Epidemiologist, Emily O’Brien

A very fun talk today with one of my favorites from the franchise. Very little “Bachelor” talk as since Emily O’Brien is an epidemiologist, it made much more sense to talk about COVID-19 with her. Even back when her season aired with Ben Flajnik in 2012, Emily has never done a podcast before. So interesting getting a medical perspective on the virus from someone who studies this for a living. We spend a good hour on the virus itself as I try to get every basic question a lot of people have about this thing along with hitting on the stuff I know people wanna know about. Also, Emily is currently involved in a project that’s very helpful to people working in the frontline of this thing, as she is studying the impact of COVID-19 on health care workers. Emotional distress, anxiety, etc. They want to help understand the impact this virus is having on health care workers over time. So if you are one of these people, or know someone who is working in the health care industry, go to this website: Heroesresearch.org. As always, if you want to respond to the interview, please include Emily’s Twitter handle (@emilycob) in your replies. Been a long time coming, but thanks again to Emily for finally coming on the podcast to talk about something so important to everyone right now. Loved the information that she shared and I hope you all learn at least something from it.

Emily joins me to talk about her time on Ben Flajnik’s season, how it feels like forever ago, her memories from the season, where it went wrong with Courtney and what she should’ve done differently. Then Emily and I spend the next hour talking about COVID-19, from it’s early threat, myths vs facts, diagnostic testing vs antibody testing, social distancing, effects on sports, what will the new normal be, when does she think we’ll ever get there, vaccines, a second wave hitting in the fall, and much, much more (19:05).
