Long time emailer here and I remember us messaging back and forth a decade ago about a what douche that guy is. well now we have Nick Viall. so maybe it’s a helpful reminder that narcissists like these guys are a dime a dozen and come along every couple of years. In ten years you’ll probably get an email with the subject line remember “Nick Viall?” Good because means he’ll eventually disappear; bad because there will doubtless be some new douche guy.
Comment: I can’t remember who was in your subject line that you referred to in your first sentence. But can’t say I disagree with you on the second guy. Just insufferable.

Hi Steve! I’m a little behind so I hope you dont mind going all the way back to talk about Ep1&2.
I noticed the Spoilers in the November 15th column say a couple different things than what actually aired (duh, not uncommon) but I do have a couple questions on a few things that stuck out:
1. Spoiler said “Brooklyn – She had a haystack as part of her entrance since her background is a professional barrel racer.” In the edit they only showed her walking up to Zach, hug, and a small chat. We didnt see her actually getting out of the limo, so possibly that was cut or is there some other BTS reason like last minute producers didnt allow her to do that bit? There were a lot of intros not fully shown, so, I guess they just decide what they want shown versus what they don’t.
2. Spoiler said “Greer – Did the tortilla slap challenge that’s kind of a craze on TikTok.” However we see the NY coffee thing instead. They even show her exiting the limo with the cup in hand. So to me it doesnt appear the edit was cut to take out what you reported. Do they ever film different versions of limo exits for some cast? Yes.
3. Not from the column but I wrote a note I believe was said in one of your pods (not sure what date) that Broolyn was the 1st one out of the limos (instead it was shown as Jess). Obviously they edit the limo exits out of order (BachelorData reported Nick Vial has even confirmed that in the past). I’m curious how much detail your sources give you, like do you always know the actual filming order of limo exits and would you be able to share order of filming more with us? I don’t remember ever saying Brooklyn was the first one out of the limos, and I don’t know why I would’ve since I don’t know who the first one out was. It’s been about 4 seasons since I was able to have access to the first episode. From like Emily’s season until maybe the pandemic seasons, I was able to get my hands on the first episode a couple weeks before airing. And not bc ABC let me either. I was just able to through certain channels. That’s the only time I knew who got out of the limo first because I’d watch the episode and then report. But it’s been a while since I’ve been able to get access to those, so I don’t know that anymore.
4. Spoiler said “Madison was the first to pull Zach aside”. I could tell from the edit that they clearly cut that out (again, not unusual). I like catching those things bcus for me the fun of watching is knowing when production is trying to ‘trick’ the viewers, which is why I love having your spoilers ahead of time. Kinda similar question tho, do you typically get specific info on the actual order of filming for that stuff (like who chats with the lead and when on Group Dates or at the Cocktail party)? It’s different every season. There’s no rhyme or reason why sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t really.
I’m so glad you were able to give us all the info on the puppet date. I was really disappointed it was cut because I feel like we get more insight to the cast personalities on these kinds of dates (plus I secretly love a good chuckle over the cringey-ness). Who knows, maybe they will save those clips for the bloopers reel, one can only hope.
Last comment: Thanks to you I now follow all the greatest non-Bach socials like Game of Roses, She’s All Bach and BachelorData. I really appreciate your column & pod and hope you continue to do both. Being a GoR fan I always take notes thru the season and I use your columns for keeping track of spoilers and episode recaps. But I also really enjoy listening because you give extra insight & tidbits in your daily pods plus all the BN news & interviews. Keep it coming!
Comment: Thanks for following and glad I’ve been able to turn you on to those podcasts. I think the best part is we all do something different, so there’s something for everyone.

Hi Steve. So I’ve been wondering, statistically speaking, are couples who do not get engaged on BIP more likely to get married than those who do?
I can think of Kevin & Astrid, Raven & Adam, Becca & Thomas (almost) who have just met on the show. Are there any others? Hmmmm, those can’t be the only 3 right? But off the top of my head and 8 seasons to go over, I can’t think of others. But there has to be, doesn’t there?
And then jade & tanner, Serena & Joe, and anyone else who has actually gotten married and stayed together who got engaged? My brain is mush but was wondering if you remember more clearly!
Comment: I would literally have to go through Wiki and find all these answers. So you’re asking more engagements happened from couples who didn’t get engaged on the show than did? Or are you saying more successful couples? I’m kinda confused on the question.

Steve,
Granted, I am not a big football fan. I tend to only watch at the end of the season. And, of course, I do watch the Super Bowl (along with millions of others).
Here is my question ?????:
When Kansas City won the coin toss, why would they give the ball to Philadelphia? I get that they will get the ball the second half. But, it just seems stupid to me.
The 49ers did the same thing and the second half was irrelevant because their quarterback got hurt.
Momentum is pretty crucial. Being the first to score is a huge advantage one would think.
Please explain.
Comment: Almost all teams, no matter what the game is, if they win the coin toss defer to the second half so they can have the ball. It’s kind of a way to protect yourself in case you have a bad first half, you know you’re getting the ball to start the second half and can maybe get things going that way. Doesn’t always work obviously. I’m sure someone has the numbers out there somewhere on the success of that. But I think you’d have to break it down even further, which would be:
1. Win the coin toss
2. Defer to the second half kickoff.
3. BE TRAILING at halftime.
4. End up winning the game.
I think that’s the whole point of deferring. If you’re leading at halftime and get the ball to start the second, I would guess more teams ended up winning.

Hey Steve! I love your podcast and haven’t even watched the Bachelor in years. I think the last one I watched was Colton. Even though I don’t watch, I still enjoy listening to you talk about it, as well as the other interviews and pop culture topics. I mostly enjoy your humor!!
Here are my two questions:
1. When you were talking about some of your upload issues a few weeks ago, I was curious why you don’t schedule them to upload at like 3 a.m. so they are there when everyone wakes up. Then people can’t complain that they are “late”. (Although they’ll probably find something else to complain about). I’m in marketing and am wondering if the reason you don’t is that it’s more visible uploading when people are up because it doesn’t get lost in the feed?? Or would you rather be awake to confirm the upload? Just curious. It’s actually a little bit of both of those. I don’t want it getting lost in the feed, and, I’m up by the time the Daily Roundup goes up and I want to tweet and post on IG story once it’s up. I don’t want it sitting there for 3 to 4 hrs. Yes I know, kind of a weird thing on my end, but it’s just something I’m comfortable with. It’s very possible this changes in the future. Maybe I’ll get over the fact that it’s ok for it to be in peoples feeds hours before I awake ha ha. But for now, I’m going with this.
2. Also thinking with my marketing brain, how has your sports podcast been going? I have to admit that I’m missing your sports talk at the end of your daily podcast so I’m going to hop over and subscribe after I hit send on this email. Is that podcast scratching your itch to talk sports and are you gaining subscribers? Btw. I’m in Minnesota and was at the Vikings Game that was the biggest comeback in NFL history. People were leaving left and right at halftime and we stuck it out and it was obviously well worth it!
Keep up the great work Steve and take care!
Comment: The podcast is going well. If you look on the Sports category on Apple Podcasts, there’s SO MANY SPORTS PODS. I knew that going in. I knew it wouldn’t have nearly the numbers my Reality Steve one does. I knew it wouldn’t bring in nearly the advertising money the Reality Steve one does. At least in the beginning. It’s less than 2 months old. There’s just so many more options in the sports department than there is in the Bachelor world when it comes to pods. Yes, I know that it seems like everyone has a pod in BN and even fans, but it doesn’t compare to the Sports world. Not even close.
The other thing is I know my Reality Steve pod can offer something that no other Bachelor related podcast can, and that’s behind the scenes info and spoilers. Sports pods? Sure, I may have different takes than others, but nothing I have I’d say is completely original content. It’s just MY opinion and takes on things. And while some may be interested and some not, there are still plenty of other options to go to if someone doesn’t care or doesn’t know about my sports pod. With Bachelor, most people kinda know where they need to go for their info. So that’s the other major difference.

I just wanted to say that I’m grateful someone else also is baffled by snorkeling. I’ve never understood it either, and I’m happy to know I’m not the only one.
Comment: I “dove” into it more on the Daily Roundup today. I literally am still so confused it’s driving me crazy.

Steve,
I wanted to thank you for recommending “Coming Out for Love”, the lesbian dating show. The live show had a lot of technical difficulties as you know. Hopefully those will be resolved when the show starts on February 18th.
After watching the first episode, there are so many things I like about the show.
-It was so great that the first episode took an in depth look into each contestants’ life. I felt like I really got to know them right off the bat. I also love how they used their social media posts to introduce them. None of that “here for the wrong reasons” crap. Yay!!! Take social media out of the closet.
-I love the body size diversity and the racial diversity.
-They are not attached to any pat or overused plot lines. It is very free flowing and spontaneous which I love. It doesn’t feel scripted at all.
-The women are so open and honest and real.
-I think it is a great idea to have a person interview the women as they arrive at the house who is not the host. She does an excellent job as well.
-The host, Jessica Clark, is very interesting in her own right and much more involved with the hosting position than Chris or Jesse. There is a warmth and openness to her that both of those men lack.
-I love the queer dictionary onscreen so that we can understand the terms they throw around.
-I am excited that they have a contestant who is a Deaf woman who signs with a sign language interpreter.
There is also the added element of having to “come out” and what that means to all of the women. When you are heterosexual, you don’t have that society judgment to deal with. It is interesting to see how all of these women navigate this judgment.
So many issues that I have with the Bachelor—the lack of racial diversity (especially in the leads), the canned and overused plot lines (such as here for the right reasons), the lack of size diversity, the lack of acknowledgment of social media and its contribution to the show, and the limited role of the host– are solved with this show.
I am still a Bachelor fan, of course, but it is refreshing to see a show like this.
I am looking forward to watching the rest of the season.
Comment: I agree with all of that. And yes, a lot of technical difficulties yesterday due to the live portion and also had some mic issues. But come Saturday when the first episode is re-released, then you’ll get a new episode every Saturday for the next 16 weeks, I’d think they’d have the kinks worked out.
All those points are spot on why I feel the show is different. Will they be traveling to exotic locations? Not by the look of it. Are they staying in a mansion? Eh, it’s a palace but it’s certainly not something over the top at all. So the complaints that you, and others have about the Bachelor, you don’t get that with this show. Looks like there will be drama (definitely in episode 2 a serious matter comes up regarding Lundy), there will be contestants falling for each other and not Amber (which is totally realistic in a situation like this), and there’s a genuineness (is that word?) to it that you’re not getting from the streaming or network dating shows. Can’t wait to see it all play out.
