Wow I really thought Tori and Devin had made a fatal mistake by putting the double penalty on Olivia and Horacio instead of bananas and Nani! Congrats to the pair. Really happy it was them. Don’t you think Olivia and Horacio will be forces on the show for the next decade? They’re beasts. Sorry to see them leave early due to her injury.

Comment: Absolutely. Neither are on the season that starts on Paramount + in a couple weeks, but every MTV show going forward, I absolutely think they will be.

Hi Steve,

I found you and your page a few years ago, I love reading your FB and IG accounts regarding spoilers and recaps. I have a question about last week, I know you already posted answers to last weeks emails, but I am hoping this comes up again. Zach was very tipsy at the group date night filming, I think it was Kat that said, you smell like whiskey when she went in for a kiss. Also, he was clearly slurring and wobbly when giving out the rose. I also think it is why he was so over the top with his comments regarding how attractive he found Kat and that “can you believe I’m dating someone who looks like a model” or something close to that. Is there any gossip regarding his drinking like there was about Christina? Could that be why he was so intolerable regarding her and her behavior? Hmmmm, I didn’t notice that myself so I don’t want to speak on it.

Thanks for all you do and looking forward to your remarks and updates for the rest of the season! Can’t wait to see who the bachelorette will be….my money is on Kat or Brooklyn.

Comment: Statistics say neither of them have a very good chance based on the fact that 90% of the women who’ve gotten the “Bachelorette” role finished in the top 4 of their “Bachelor” season, and those two didn’t. Possible? Of course. Likely? Probably not.

Hey Steve,

Covid works funny like that. My now-fiancé got covid (delta/omicron), and we did sleep in separate rooms after he was tested, I didn’t get COVID. My sister got it but her now ex didn’t. My dad got it and my mom didn’t.

Comment: Yeah, and we also know that there’s no universal symptoms and universal severity of if someone gets it either. Some have it bad and lose taste and smell for months, and some never at all.

Hi Steve,

Listened to your podcast this morning. Bieniemy will have play-calling responsibilities for the first time in his career with Washington. He did not call plays in KC. I’m not saying that he doesn’t deserve to be a head coach but it has been mentioned that this has been a hold-up in his prior head coach interviews. I imagine this was a key part of the draw to go to Washington. Just wanted to pass this info along as I didn’t hear you mention it among his other reasons for leaving.

Always enjoy listening to your podcasts.

Comment: Yes, that’s been the hold up that teams have had with him. Reid calls the plays and he’s never been the lead play caller until now. That’s fine. But he’s interviewed with 15 different teams the last 5 years for head coaching gigs. That’s half the league. Maybe he didn’t call the plays, but he was at least the co-offensive coordinator of the most dominant offense in the league the last 5 years, and he got 15 “no’s?” Seems harsh. Especially when white special teams coaches get gigs just because they coached under Belichik. So assuming his offense won’t put up the numbers his KC’s offenses did because, well, they have way less talented players, now won’t owners excuses be, “Look, now he’s calling plays on his own and his offenses aren’t as good.” So he’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t. I think we know the reason why he hasn’t been hired.

Do you know how many women received the “Pretty Woman” date and ended up being the final one?

Hey Steve a couple of questions. You recap “Special Forces.” Did you mention in your Thursday Daily Roundup that Mike Piazza quit at the beginning of the episode last week? I listen to the Daily Roundup every day. I just didn’t want to go back and try to find where you talked about it. I was just surprised he quit and didn’t recall you mentioning it. I can’t remember if I did or didn’t. With 11 podcasts a week now, it’s tough to remember everything I said. Once I saw his body breaking down, and he was the oldest one left, I understood why he did. Didn’t surprise me as much.

“Accused” on Fox – I like the show as well and have watched all episodes. This last one – Kendall’s story – didn’t seem to wrap up nicely at the end like previous episodes. Did I miss something?

Comment: No, you’re correct. It was left pretty open ended. Basically, I think moral was the police chief didn’t agree with what he did, but after watching the trial, had a change of heart and realized what his boys did to him was wrong, and now he vowed to try and get him out of prison. I think the story ended up being more about the police chief than Malcom Jamal Warner’s character.

Hi Steve.

So glad you mentioned his hit song because I was totally picturing “Never Gonna Let You Go” by Sergio Mendes. ? You’re welcome in advance for that being in your head.

Comment: Welp, it’s not in my head because I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. At least I don’t recognize it by that title. Or who Sergio Mendes is. So I’m safe for now.

Hi Steve!!

I know you are wildly critical of Deux Moi. If you could go back & make your identity anonymous, would you? Absolutely not. Kills your credibility to be someone who would do stuff like that without putting your name to it. Zero respect for people who do that.

Do you think the amount of criticism you come under is because you put your name out there? No. I don’t think it has anything to do with my name. Some of the criticism I’ve gotten is absolutely warranted. Misreporting things that weren’t vetted correctly, my past writings, the Demi incident – totally should be criticized. Every one of those things has since changed, so, I’m not sure why people will still throw that criticism out there. If the behavior didn’t change, I’d understand. But it has, it’s been evident in my reporting and my writings and my personal life, soooooooo, I think it’s a weak argument to continually use that and bring up things that happened years ago. If those people don’t think people can change and get better, I think that says more about their narrative and they don’t care to see improvement from people, which I find incredibly odd.

Love all your spicy takes & am really enjoying Sport Daily! Start watching Formula 1 cause I’d love your takes on that haha

Comment: I’ve heard nothing but good things about “Drive to Survive,” but haven’t watched it yet. I don’t know the first thing about F1, but I keep getting told it doesn’t matter. It’s still possible to love that show. Maybe I’ll get around to it some day.

I am now signing Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You out loud at my office. They’re thrilled! ??

It’s one of those songs I never think about, yet know each word.

Comment: I was humming, “Don’t leave me stranded here…on the high wire…” all fucking day.

Hi Steve,

Figured I’d send in a reader email since you said you were low. I’m behind on watching this season (only half through episode 4) so I don’t have much current to add. That said, the only reason I’m even watching is to be able to follow along with your (and Sharleen’s) recaps. I was laughing out loud at your description of the Zoom rose ceremony – can’t wait to watch that cluster.

One thing I noticed in your recap of episode 5 was talking about the 1st impression rose recipient usually getting a one on one date. In that paragraph you missed Abigail from Matt James’ season. Didn’t she get sent home having never gone on anything but a group date?

Thanks!

Comment: I believe so, yes. @Bachelordata has an IG post about that from fairly recent post and I just forgot to look at it.

Hey Steve,

I’ve changed my mind about this season multiple times, but now I’ve settled on Boring Beyond Belief.

When Zach was announced as Bachelor, I thought he might be a little too passive and “nice” to work. After a couple episodes, I changed my mind, finding him refreshing, and agreeing with many others that the show seemed to be returning to its roots.

Things soured for me last week and this week sealed it: It’s just flat-out boring. Zach says the same things about every girl, and he repeats what he wants in the most cliched language possible. Yes, it’s great that he knows what he wants (even though he also wants to kiss EVERY girl there ALL the time), but a Bachelor who wants “no drama” isn’t great TV watching.

I agree with you about how awkward the rose ceremony was last night, but it should have been A LOT more awkward than it was. I think the Zach Factor made it much less ridiculous than it should have been. I was bored after one rose.

Almost all of last night’s episode felt like filler to me. If someone asked me which scenes were must-sees, I wouldn’t have an answer. I can’t even name a scene I thought was “fun.” It was one of the flattest Bachelor episodes I have ever seen. Well, I mean, the guy did get COVID and there’s only so much you can do when he can’t go on any dates. So yeah, with no dates, not too exciting. Not the show’s fault he caught it. They did the best they could with the circumstances they were given. Go read Kristen Baldwin’s interview with producers on Page 1. A lot more went into what they were gonna do than what the average person thought.

I think producers made an enormous mistake in allowing Zach to dump Christina Mandrell so early. I really can’t understand the logic there. “No drama” sounds mature and adult, but it doesn’t work in this franchise. This is what I said at the beginning of the season. People complain when there’s drama on the show saying they wanna see a love story. Then they show drama, women weren’t liking Christina, Zach gets rid of her, and it’s “Ugh, what a mistake.” Can’t win.

Knowing who Zach chooses has nothing to do with my boredom, either. I always read your spoilers and (usually) love watching the show knowing who the “winner” is. This season? I’m not feeling it. Yes, I “like” the winner and I’m happy for her — and them — but the whole thing is meh.

Because of Zach’s personality, I don’t know that this season can be turned around. I don’t see any surprises coming from him, and none of the remaining girls is any kind of fireball.

Comment: Ok.
