Podcast #409 – Interview with Cheryl Burke (including transcripts)

Our yearly chat with Cheryl Burke is back, as we spoke with her right around this time last year when she had first launched her podcast. And boy, did that thing take off. How many times has one of her guests made the entertainment sites headlines in the past year? Seems like at least once a month. We discuss that plus her thoughts on Night 1 of DWTS, who surprised her, who she wants to see more from, Rapid 10, and much more. Before that, I talk about the Golden Bachelorette premiere & the unfortunate story that broke during the episode. I give an update on who contacted me and where I’m at with that. Honestly, I don’t like doing these stories and on the heels of the Devin story from this past Monday, this is all getting to be a bit much. But I’ll plow through and get the pertinent information you need for this story. From what I have right now, it’s not great. I’ll let you know as soon as I’m informed of more. With that said, don’t let it deter you from watching Joan’s season since she deserves that from her audience.

DAILY ROUNDUP 9/19 TRANSCRIPT

You are listening to the daily roundup here as part of the reality. Steve podcast. I am your host reality. Steve, thank you all for tuning in on this Thursday. I’m it’s a, it’s been a hell of a day to say the least. And I’m starting to record this podcast at 11 58 PM central time. I have not recorded the sports daily yet, and I have not recorded the open and the close for podcast number four Oh nine with Cheryl Burke.

That’s going to be up in a couple hours. It’s a long ass day, but we’ve got a lot to get to. We’re going to talk a little bit more about the Devon situation. We’re going to talk about golden bachelorette already. Some problems happening there. I’m going to talk about survivor and big brother, just a lot going on.

I’m, I almost feel overwhelmed at this point, but we’ll fight through it and we’ll get going so we’ll get to all that momentarily. All right. You know what? I’m going to start out with golden bachelorette since. It is. A lighthearted show. It’s not what the bachelor and bachelorette is where everything is just so serious.

I mean, it is serious. They’re looking for, Joan is looking for somebody. I’m not saying she’s jerking around and all the guys are jerking around. I’m just saying that it’s so much more likable than the other show. It’s between bachelor and bachelorette. It’s just like. I almost feel like this is what we need now after the Devon stuff and just so much negativity surrounding Jen season, there’s two things that are helping kind of let us move on dance with the stars, which is just to show about.

Peppiness and Charisma, and it’s just a fun show we kind of have you can you don’t have to analyze anything You just shut off your brain and watch a bunch of reality people and Disney people dance You know and you can get joy out of that and when I watch the Golden Bachelorette last night I’m like, this is kind of what I need right now Now, of course, something breaks on the internet last night regarding the golden bachelorette.

I’m like, Oh fuck, here we go again. And I’ll get to that just on the two hours that I watched the golden bachelorette. I was, I enjoyed it. I really did. I never thought I was going to care very much about the golden bachelor, the golden bachelorette, but it’s, you know, when you look at it, yes, it’s the same franchise, same producers and stuff like that.

Filmed at the mansion. I get it, but honestly, they’re not the same show. We know what the bachelor and bachelorette are. 20 to five to 30 year old people trying to be on TV, trying to hook up with people from other seasons, trying to find their way onto paradise. If they find somebody and fall in love on this show, great, but that’s not why they’re going on.

They all have ulterior motives. Okay. We all know this. If you’re watching the bachelor and the bachelorette for a love story. You’re just going to be disappointed more often than not. You’re watching the wrong show with this, with the golden Bachelorette, it’s just different. You can’t watch what we watched last night for two hours and say it’s the same as Bachelor and Bachelorette.

And yes, maybe you don’t like watching old people, date older people, date old people, older people, kiss. You know, whatever. I think it’s more about stories. It’s more about seeing heartbreak, seeing people grieving, you know, talking about dead spouses and their spouses that have passed away and how much they meant to them, you just, you’re obviously never going to get that on the bachelor and the bachelorette, right?

Like maybe, yeah, there’ll be an occasional contestant who was previously married and lost their spouse. Daniel Maltby comes to mind. Kelsey Poe comes to mind, although Yeah, Kelsey Poe comes to mind. I’m sure that Michael Alio, obviously. By the way, here’s one takeaway from last night that I had in regards to Jones season.

We remember Jordan, the guy from Chicago. Not Pascal, obviously Pascal stands out because of his accent. But Jordan, the other guy from Chicago. And the reason I just went off on a tangent is because I just said Michael Alio’s name. When I see Jordan, I think Jordan is 61 or something like that. When I see Jordan, for some reason, it just screams Michael Alio to me.

Like an older Michael Alio. I don’t know if it’s the facial features. I don’t know if it’s the way he talks because when Jordan talks, by the way, he sounds like a 30 year old, not that he has the lingo of a 30 year old. He just doesn’t have an older man sounding voice. You know, you listen to all those guys talk last night and they just definitely sound older and more distinguished.

And I’m not like again, I’m not saying that Jordan speaks like a 30 year old. I’m just saying his voice sounds young. And when I’m watching that last night, I was just like, why can’t I pick this guy? Okay. It totally has the striking features, facial features of somebody in Batchelor Nation. And to me it was Michael Aleo.

Maybe I’m the only person in the world that sees that. Damn it! When I watched Jordan, I was like, this is what Michael Aleo is going to look like when he’s 60. Or whatever Jordan is. Jordan Heller is his name. Let me look at my thing here. 60, 60, what is he, 61. So, yeah. That is That’s what I see.

Does anybody else see that or am I just absolutely going bonkers tonight because I’m up late and I’ve been dealing with, you know, constantly just Messaging people all day and dealing with still fall out from Devin stuff. And then what’s happening on golden bachelorette and this story that popped up last night. I thought the other thing that I thought was great about the first episode that if it didn’t target your heartstrings, I don’t think you have a heart is before they went into the rose ceremony, Jesse brought out the TV. And they got to watch messages from their children. This is literally like the, well, the old school hometown, not hometown visits, but family.

Episode on survivor where they bring somebody from the family to the show, like that type type of stuff. Obviously in the new era of survivor, they don’t bring family out there anymore. You usually just get letters, but you know what I’m saying? That was a totally different twist. We’ve never seen that.

Gary didn’t have that on his season. We didn’t get to see the children of any of Gary’s women leave videos for them. So watching that again, makes the show really, really different. It’s still under the bachelor franchise. I get it. But I thought that was so cool of them to do really did. That was, that was awesome.

And, you know, I think on a show like this, they’re going to focus less on the drama. I mean, literally the only drama we had during Gary season was Kathy telling Teresa to zip it, like they don’t focus on the drama on that season. There probably isn’t going to be much drama on this season. I don’t think these guys are going to be at each other’s throats and.

I don’t see that. Maybe some guys will be put off by Pascal, but I doubt it. You know, he might rub some people the wrong way. And, you know, I saw some comments online last night and in the social media world about he didn’t even let Joan finish her toast before he took her away. Whatever. I think that’s so minor compared to what we get on Bachelor and Bachelorette.

If that’s the worst drama we have all season, we’ll be fine. But it is just such a different show. You basically don’t want any of these people to go home. You feel so bad for them. I did. Now the guys that get sent home last night were guys that they didn’t really feature. So you kind of knew who was going home last night as she started giving out roses because you were seeing the guys that are left and I’m like, geez, this, who’s this guy?

I haven’t even seen, I haven’t seen an intro video. Yeah, we saw him out of the limo, but I don’t remember. And we didn’t see him get any one on one time with her at the cocktail party. So there’s that. But it’s just a different show. It really is. And it’s just, you know, the people that say like, I, I, you know, the Badger and Bachelorette, I watch it for the love story.

I hate it when they focus on the drama. You need to switch shows. If you were looking for a love story to watch on TV, you need to watch this show. I’m not saying that I know about all these guys histories or anything like that. I don’t, but you can just tell it’s more genuine because these people have had actual life experiences.

And I just. It’s just a better show it really is but is it gonna appeal to the masses? We’ll see we’ll see when the numbers come out The other thing that I need to draw your attention to is before about an hour and a half before yesterday’s episode I changed up the spoilers got some information that The originally I had said that guy Gansert won.

I heard that he did not win and It was still final for our guy, Jordan Heller, Pascal and chalk chapel. And chalk chapel is the guy who has the first one on one date at Disneyland next week. We see that. And then the, what else? So Jordan still gets eliminated at four. What I don’t know is who gets eliminated at three.

My original spoiler. I have been told, I was told that Pascal eliminates himself because he wasn’t in love with Joan. That hasn’t changed. I just don’t know if he says that at two or three, my guess is it’s at three. Cause if he says that at two, people are going to think that the winner was a default pick because Pascal was, you know, self eliminated.

So my guess is. Pascal goes home at three and your final two are Guy and Chalk. And I have heard that Chalk is your winner, that she is with Chalk Chapel. I don’t know if they’re engaged, but I have heard that they are together. That’s who she chose. Now I’m sure I’m going to be hearing stuff, you know, disputing this or whatever.

So that’s where I’m at right now. I feel very confident in that based on what I was told. And that’s the spoiler that Joan is with Chalk. So just keep that in mind.
