We’re gonna talk a couple reader emails that I got over the last couple days. Here’s something I don’t think I’ve ever discussed on Daily Roundup.
We’re gonna do cologne perfume talk. There’s a reason for it. Nikki Garcia speaks out for the first time publicly about her divorce from Artem and a tick tock trend going around that I’m sure you’ve seen by now that I have some questions about as I usually do. We’ll get to all that momentarily. Right off the bat.
I just want to say, obviously not a lot going on in bachelor world. Grant season ended filming three weeks ago. Maybe in the next couple of weeks, we’ll get the women’s bios released on bachelor nation. com and it’ll have their headshots and whatnot, and people can dissect those. But for the time being, there’s not a whole hell of a lot to go over.
I know I did get a few emails and Instagram messages from people saying that grant looks like he’s put out a rap song and my response is yeah. And. Like who cares if Grant put out a rap song? I don’t, I don’t, that, and that’s all they sent me was, Hey, did you see this link to Grant’s rap song? Um, I have now because people sent it to me, but I don’t see what the big deal is.
I guess I’m missing something there, but anyway, a couple of emails, uh, that I want to get to, uh, that have come in the last few days. First one says, Hey Steve, what are your thoughts on Cobra Kai? I know you’ve talked about it before, but I’d fast forward or not pay attention since I wasn’t caught up with all the seasons.
I’m telling you before, I hadn’t even finished season one, but I binge watched all six seasons over Thanksgiving. I have many thoughts and feel mixed about the seasons. The earlier seasons were kind of annoying because they kept referring back to the past and were still living in the past, but I get it because that’s how they connected the original movies and then they continued to bring Bass back.
Back to past characters. I personally am more interested in the newer characters of the kids now. And that ending of season six was just crazy. What do you think? Well, I don’t know how old this emailer is, but my guess is the reason that they didn’t like the earlier episodes. And because it focused so much on the past and bringing back past characters is they probably weren’t as invested into the original three movies like I was and grew up on them because I don’t know how you can grow up in the eighties.
And early nineties and have that karate kid trilogy be a part of your life. And then see Cobra Kai come to life 35 years later and not be interested in seeing how many past characters they can bring back. So my guess is whoever emailed me, this is probably more of a millennial. And that’s why they said they’re more interested in the new characters, which I totally understand, but you got to also understand Cobra Kai doesn’t exist if there’s no three original movies.
So that’s the one thing that’s always impressed me about this franchise is they’ve been able to blend the characters from the past with this new group of kids that are in Cobra Kai and Miyagi Do. It’s been very impressive because when I first heard about Cobra Kai, the TV series coming to back six years ago, it was on YouTube red or YouTube premium, which sounds like a porn channel.
That’s what it was released on. It wasn’t until season three, I believe when it went to Netflix, but the first two seasons were on YouTube red. And I was just like, please don’t disgrace the karate kid franchise. You don’t need to do this. And then I saw season one and I was like, wow, they perfectly blended the past Johnny and Daniel with this current crop of kids that we are going to become invested in.
And then remember end of season one, it was the first time we saw crease. Cause the whole time you’re watching season one, you’re like, where’s John crease? What is he doing? They bring him back last scene in season one, which was the cliffhanger into season two and then season two, the cliffhanger at the end of season two was crap.
I can’t remember what it was. Was that Allie on Facebook when Johnny sent her a Facebook request and she accepted, or we saw the phone in the sand. And then that was a storyline in season three. And then at the end of season three, We get Terry Silver, uh, the T’s of Terry Silver, John Crease on the phone.
And we assume he’s talking to silver and then we get silver in seasons four and five as the main villain. So. I’ve always thought they blended it perfectly, but season six, I think from front beginning to end, all 10 episodes, best season they’ve had. Now we still got five episodes left. Let’s see episodes 11 through 15 are coming on February 13th.
And that’s going to wrap up the Cobra Kai series. But as I said, when I reviewed it last week or the week before, we are going to get some sort of spinoff of Cobra Kai. I don’t know if it’s going to be called Cobra Kai, but. It’s too successful for Netflix, not to do a spinoff of one of the characters, one of the storylines, whatever, we’re going to get something coming from Cobra Kai, because we did find out that the karate kid movie, which comes out in May of 2025, three months after Cobra Kai series ends incorporates the Cobra Kai series.
Like it’s part of the Cobra Kai canon. So I think we’ll find out more once we see the karate kid movie with David Bowie. Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan come in May. So I think we’re going to know more than, but it’s going to be very, very interesting. Um, but yeah, I’ve, I’ve loved it. I, I I’m opposite of you, but my guess is you’re probably younger than me.
And that’s why you are like, why are they still living in the past and bringing all these characters back? Look, this show doesn’t exist if there’s no karate kid, one, two, and three. And they’ve basically brought every major character back from one, two, and three in the first six seasons of this show outside of Dutch, who rest in peach, uh, died within the last month or so.
And once he died, they did admit they were trying to get him to make a cameo on Cobra Kai. But. All the original Cobra Kai members have shown up in some point in Cobra Kai, or yeah, all the original Cobra Kai guys from the first movie have shown up except for Dutch. And we got Kumiko from season two, uh, or season two, Karate Kid two.
And then obviously we got Terry Silver, who was the big bad guy from the third movie. So basically outside of Dutch and Hillary Swank, if they’re going to go that route for next Karate Kid when she was in the fourth movie, but. People don’t really remember the fourth movie because Ralph Macchio wasn’t in it.
Hillary swank was the quote unquote karate kid and Miyagi trained her, but that’s the biggest name that they could possibly bring back from the originals unless they do the reboot, but I don’t think they’re going to with Jaden Smith or Jackie Chan. Maybe, I don’t know, maybe Jackie Chan does show up at the end of the Cobra Kai series.
And that maybe leads into the karate kid movie. It’s it’s possible that happens. So I don’t know. We’ll have to see. It’s the next email I got yesterday. The subject of it says, this just happened, said, Hey, Steve, I thought of you on my drive home tonight. I was parked at a red light and I can hear music blasting from another car, even with my windows up.
I looked over to check it out and I realized someone was playing define gravity at full volume and singing along. Thought it was a funny coincidence with your Laguna beach memory from today. Anyway, have a great night. Just say this to this emailer. You sure that wasn’t me in the car next to you? I’m not going to say I’ve been singing along to define gravity in the car since I’ve seen the wicked, but I’m not going to not say I haven’t been singing along either.
It’s definitely been playing in the car.
So have I been singing it by myself in my car? Or have I not, I don’t know, I guess someone’s going to have to bust me on the road someday, uh, to see if that’s happening, but I’m sure a lot of people are doing it, but seeing all of it show up on my for you page on Tik TOK and noticing that. The lyrics and the songs, like as I dive deeper into the backstory of everything, how much more interesting these songs become to me.
Cause when I just saw the movie, I’m just like, okay, cool songs, sing along to them. I get why everybody likes them, but that was me not knowing really anything behind the lyrics. And now seeing all this stuff, I’m like, Oh, okay. Now I know why it’s drawn such a visceral reaction and an emotional reaction from a lot of people.
It totally makes sense. Especially the first song in the movie when the movie started, you know, mini spoiler here, if you haven’t seen it. It takes place basically right after the end of the original movie, Wizard of Oz, Glinda coming to confirm that the Wicked Witch of the West is dead. And then they start singing, No One Mourns the Wicked, and I’m like, okay, good song.
Ariana Grande hits some incredible notes in that song, but it didn’t dawn on me until after I had seen the movie and started reading more stuff. Why that song is so emotional and what you need to look for in that song when Glinda is singing it because I just didn’t put two and two together until I read about it afterwards and I’m like, oh Okay.
Now I get it. If you know what I’m talking about, you know what I’m talking about, but yeah I just it’s a great soundtrack and people are telling me there are even better songs in part two I think what’s the one for good? You Is that the name of it? I haven’t even listened to it yet. Like I, I don’t want to listen to for good until I’ve spoiled myself on the plot and act two of wicked, because I feel if I listened to the song, it’s going to give it away anyway.
So I’m either going to spoil myself before November of next year, or I’m just literally going to hold out and not read what the main, uh, plot point is outside of the one I already told you about that I accidentally came across to this emailer. You never know. It might’ve been me in my car belting out defying gravity.
