Joined for the first time this week by one of Gerry’s women from the “Golden Bachelor,” runner-up Leslie Fhima. A lot to touch on with Leslie as she has been making the podcast rounds the last week or so, so I wanted to try and cover a lot of things that weren’t necessarily show related. We definitely dive into the break up with Gerry and her thoughts, but I wanted to get to know Leslie outside of the show, and she definitely has some life experience to share with us. Loved chatting with her and I hope you enjoy the interview as well. Before that, I talk a little about the Survivor finale, the Challenge finals being set, US Weekly confirming Jenn and Sasha are dating, & more. Again, thank you to Leslie for coming on the podcast and sharing her stories. Loved having her on and will hope to have her on again in the future.

Really good interview with her. I know she’s done a lot recently. You saw her on she’s all bats. You saw her on almost famous. She’s done a lot, but I wanted to do something different. I wanted to talk more about her pre and post golden bachelor life and kind of what she’s been up to, where she came from, her figure skating career, her aerobics career, dating prints.
We get into all of that. Because I found that more interesting than the stuff that she has said a hundred times on the podcast in terms of Gary and what happened on the last night she was with him. Yes, we do talk about it, but I do not spend too much time on it. I think maybe 20 minutes of the hour conversation is about her on the golden bachelor.
So look for that coming up at 9 15 AM. Eastern time, go to my YouTube channel, like the video. Comment on the video, subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. And, Also podcast wise, it’ll be in your podcast feed on Apple podcasts or Spotify right around 9 15 AM Eastern time as well. So we are going to do Steven fish back next week. I’m going to record with him tomorrow and air that next Thursday, the day after Christmas to give an overview on the survivor season finale, which aired last night, and we now know.
That Rachel was your winner by a seven to one vote. I don’t think that surprised anybody. I’m going to jump to the very end first and talk about something that jumped out to me, and then we’ll kind of go back and talk about everything else. But Jeff Probst, since we started the new era has. Being basically the main executive producer of the show.
He calls the shots on how this thing is shown and run. And since the new era started, we have gone away from live finales. Clearly it’s being done to save money. However, these reunions or after shows are literally getting shorter and shorter and shorter. And last night was a freaking joke. Now. The reason why it’s relevant to me is because Jeff sits there.
He even said it last night. He goes, the reason why I love doing the after show right after you guys have just voted is because it’s raw and it’s real and you don’t have social media influence. You haven’t been home. You haven’t been able to watch. You haven’t been able to read criticisms or praises from social media.
That’s why I love doing it right after the show. And some people might love it. Jeff certainly loves it. I think most fans don’t. They like the live finales, but here’s my question to Jeff. Jeff, if you love it so much, why did last night’s after show get 10 minutes? 10. Remember back in the day? The finale was three hours.
The first two hours were the final five, getting down to the final three. And then the last hour was the reading of the votes. And then everybody there and Jeff conducting live interviews with the whole cast 10 minutes last night. And I wrote down the timestamps. So you didn’t have to, I’m in central time.
It was a two hour show that started at seven o’clock central. When they started the after show. It was 8. 39 and that segment went from 8. 39 to 8. 45. That’s 6 minutes. Remember, the most this after show could have been was 21 minutes. If it went commercial free, it had 2 commercial breaks. So from 45 was the first segment.
They go to commercial break, they come back at 8. 49 and they go to 8. 53. That’s 4 minutes. Add that on to the 6 minutes, that’s 10. Then they take another break and come back. For two minutes, eight 56 to eight 58. But all that was, was a two minute preview for season 48. So Jeff loves this idea of doing this raw and real after show right after they read the votes and he gave it 10 minutes.
So explain that to me, Jeff. I understand this is clearly a cost cutting measure. They don’t want to have to come back and film and every fly everybody out. I get it. It costs money. But your CBS, the reason you film seasons back to back April, May, and then May, June, or maybe it’s March, April, and then April, May, when they filmed 47 and 48 back to back, like they do every year is for cost cutting measures.
So you can’t save some money and have some extra money on the backend to actually give us an after show. What’d we get? Couple answers from your winner. Jeff went around and got as many people to talk as he could. But you gave them 10 minutes. That’s easily the shortest after show we’ve ever had. And it just bothers me.
I will absolutely present my gripe to Steven Fishback as well when he joins us next week. But my gosh, that was embarrassing because I knew even when they started at eight 39, I knew I was like, they’re going to have at least two commercial breaks here and those commercial breaks are going to be three or four minutes.
10 minutes with the cast. It makes no sense. Now here’s a question. I’m also going to ask Steven. Because I don’t really know the answer to this and it could be done for television purposes. But once Rachel won the final immunity challenge, we knew that she was taking Sue and Teenie and Sam were going to have to make fire.
And it was an intriguing fire battle because clearly it looked like Teenie was running away with it. And then the wind blew and Sam ended up winning fire. I thought Sam did better at the final tribal than Rachel did in terms of his answers. You know, you know me, I watch every episode and I pretty much forget what happens by the next week.
So Sam reminding me, he was on the right side of every vote, he had ten votes against him at four different tribals, and he had a target on his back and yet he made it to the end. I thought that was a very compelling argument for him. And then when you saw numerous contestants go up to write their name, either Rachel or Sam or Sue, on the parchment in the final tribal, I Three of them, I think that they showed were really struggling.
Now, again, maybe that was for television purposes and for added effect because that many people struggled yet that many people still ended up voting for Rachel and it was seven to one. Hell, I actually thought it would end up being close. Once I watched the final tribal and their arguments, I was surprised.
I mean, I thought Genevieve was on Sam’s side. I thought Sierra was on Sam’s side and I thought Andy was on Sam’s side. Operation Italy. You guys don’t remember this. It was literally three or four days ago and Andy and Genevieve, neither of them voted for Sam. Not that Sam was the mastermind behind it, but I don’t know.
I was just really surprised that it was seven to one. I could have told you Sue was getting zero votes. That was a given. They didn’t even show Sue answering questions. I’m sure she had a lot that she said at final tribal, but the reason CBS cut out all her answers is because they knew she got zero votes.
So why do we need to spend a lot of time hearing what she has to say when ultimately we know she got zero votes. We all knew this was going to be between Rachel and Sam. And when all your answers that they did show included the fact of you reminding people you were 59 years old, it was like, okay, we get it.
So we get it. You’re 59. But, and you know, congratulations to her. There’s only been five women in the history of the show over the age of 50 who made it as far as she did, so congratulations to her. But I could have told you she was getting zero votes. I’m just surprised Sam didn’t get three. I thought maybe it would be 5 3.
I thought he was getting votes from Genevieve, Andy, and Sierra. And the only vote he ended up getting was from Kyle. What? See what I mean? I, sometimes I watched every episode of the show and I really have no idea what’s going on. Uh, I, I, I’m not surprised that Rachel won. I think we all knew Rachel was the winner and it brings me back to my podcast yesterday where Jeff probe says we have a real battle.
What did I tell you yesterday? I said, we’ll come back to this and revisit Jeff saying there’s a real battle at final tribal. No, there wasn’t Jeff. This was a done deal. And we all knew Rachel was winning. She tied the record for most single immunity wins for any woman in the show’s history. She now joins a very exclusive group.
And I think we just knew being an underdog and winning as much as she did. We all knew it was going to be Rachel. The only way it wasn’t going to be Rachel is if she didn’t win that final immunity challenge and someone made her make fire and she got beat by somebody. That was the only way. Cause then she wouldn’t have had a chance to sit in the final three, but the second she won immunity, we pretty much knew she was winning.
So yeah, Jeff had to hype it up. I understand executive producer wants to hype up his finale. Come on, Jeff saying it’s going to be a real battle. It wasn’t with that said, congratulate, congratulations. Go out to Rachel Lamont for an excellent, excellent gameplay this year. Some people are saying this is one of the top five seasons in the history of the show in 47 seasons.
This is in the top five. I don’t have the greatest survivor memory when it comes to what seasons I would put it up against. So I don’t even know how to say if that’s accurate or not, but. I know it was a very enjoyable season and I thought the gameplay in the last eight or nine was excellent. So I have no problem with it being a highly ranked to season challenge.
