Moving on to I know you haven’t been following it as well, but you have an idea of what’s going on in the Golden Bachelor world. So this Golden Bachelor,
I love gold.
I love the Golden se like series. Yeah. Better than the younger Bachelors, I have to say. I connect with them more.
I don’t doubt it because while it’s the same show in terms of I. Mansion, rose ceremonies, dates and stuff like that. It’s a completely different show in that you’re dealing with an age group in their sixties.
Everyone’s over 60 on the show. And the two seasons they’ve had, they’ve had one contestant mm-hmm. That was under 60 years old and that guy was 59. So they’ve clearly made it a, it’s 60 year older. They’re in their golden years. These people aren’t looking for Instagram followers. They’re not looking to build a brand like we know the younger contestants are.
So there is a lot more realness to it. The other thing is, if you’ve watched both seasons, you know, the Bachelor and the Bachelorette really focus on a lot of the drama, the infighting between the contestants. There hasn’t been any in the two seasons of that because they don’t focus on that. They focus on these people’s backstories.
A lot of widows on this show. They want to tell us about it, how they’ve overcome it, how a lot of them are reluctant to date. Again, like it’s just, it’s just a very, a much more pure show. Mm-hmm. So then this new Golden Bachelor that they announced at this A BC Hulu event back in April. Mel Owens, former college football player at University of Michigan, played for the LA Rams in the eighties.
It goes on a podcast, a Michigan Wolverine podcast with a, with a host that I think is a former football player. So it was, I think it was kind of a bro thing and just. Let’s us know his real thoughts about what he thinks about the women. He says he told the producers his age preference was 45 to 60.
He said, anyone over 60, I’m gonna cut. He said, no artificial hips, no wigs. Gotta be in shape. ’cause I, you know, he’s 66 and he’s, he’s in really good shape for 66. But he also said, like, I, the host asked him, what are you into? And he just, oh, you know, I just want my woman to be in shape. And it’s like, okay.
Now, the day after he was announced, I had never even heard of Mellow Owens before this, so I had to Google him. He was married for about 20 years. He’s got two kids I think, that are in college. And the thing is, his ex-wife is 20 years younger than him. So when I saw that story back in April, I said, look, I don’t know anything about Mellow Owens.
All I did was find out who his ex-wife was. They’ve been divorced for, I think five years now. But number one. They got married when she was like 21 or 22 and he was 41 or 42. And number two, she’s 20 years younger than him. I go, I dunno anything about this guy, but I’m already side eyeing the fact that this guy is gonna proclaim to be interested in 60-year-old women.
I just didn’t see it when his ex-wife of 20 years was 20 years younger than him and he married her when she was 21 or 22. So I already had my my. Ears perked for this guy and then this podcast comes out and we’re like, yeah. So it’s like, I don’t fault the guy for liking younger women. This is a tale as old as, you know, as time in Hollywood.
Older men, like younger women, that’s not news, but your Golden Bachelor can’t publicly express that when every contestant is supposed to be over 60 on his season. So I don’t know where the show goes from here. I know they start filming next month, but. In my eyes, you either have to cancel the show or recast him.
You can’t throw him out there.
What do you know, like statistically, or not statistically, but like factually, do you know what the average age of the contestants have been on the fir were on Jerry’s season? Of the women? All of them over.
All of them were over 60.
And he was 70 though, right? 72.
He was 71, 72, 71, 72.
He chose a 71-year-old, like
but Theresa looked so young, like she looked so much younger than 71 when you think of, of it. But
so real quickly, I wanna say he was older. Yeah, he was old, he was 72. I Mel is six, you know, he’s 66. The guy’s collecting social security. He is like, yeah, if you’re over 60, I I’m cutting you.
It’s like, dude, you can’t, and it
wasn’t said in any like, funny way. No,
no. He said, and he said it in the podcast. He goes, I told the producers, I’m just being honest. So he wants 45 to 60 year olds. That’s fine. You can’t say that. Now, if the show appeases him and gives him mid to late forties, early fifties, women, well then it’s not the Golden Bachelor.
So everyone’s gonna be completely turned off by that. Nobody wants to see a 66-year-old date a 45 to 49-year-old woman. They, they’ll be like. You’re playing right into the Hollywood stereotype that older men can only be with younger women. So I don’t think they’re gonna do that. But if you’re one of the women that has already been cast, because I gotta believe they already have their cast set, or they’re finalizing casting as we speak, these women have all now seen it.
If you’re a 60-year-old woman or older going on the show, why would you go at this point? You’d be like, I’m, I’m out. I heard what he said. I don’t wanna be on the show.
You would think that you’re like basically going into a losing battle. I, I would have to think like, there’s, so the way that I talked about it on my show was there’s a, there’s a win and a negative.
There’s a good and a bad part. Partially, it’s good that he’s being honest with himself. And just like in general, if this was a normal life and you’re going out, you know, to a blind dating event or a dating event, and you’re telling your matchmaker, look, I never wanna be with someone under, you know, that’s, that’s over 60, that’s a great thing that you’re honest.
Because why lead people on? But you’re right. This is not the show for that. And I do think there’s space in the bachelor world, if they wanted to add a medium world for the forties to 60-year-old age range. Yeah. You know, or 40 to 55. Because there’s a lot of people in my age range that are newly divorced that are looking for love.
And maybe there is another category, a bachelor. But you’re right. It leaves out that whole like grandma. Yeah, that everyone loves about the show. The Kathy’s and the, you know, I forget their other names, but the Teresa’s Susan, that age range. Susan’s. Yeah. So you’re right, but what, where are they gonna, you really think they’re gonna cut someone this late in the game?
Do you know how much promo they probably have done?
Well, here’s the thing. I, and I didn’t think about this until this past weekend, so he was announced as the Golden Bachelor at that a BC Hulu crossover event where they were talking about the upcoming seasons of the Housewives and all that. And I was thinking, well, wait a second.
While he has been announced in April, I. He hasn’t been on one Bachelor affiliated podcast. He hasn’t been on Bachelor Happy Hour. He hasn’t been on with Caitlyn, he hasn’t been on with Nick. He hasn’t been on with Ben and Ashley. He hasn’t been on with The Golden, with Susan and Kathy. He hasn’t been on their podcast and then I went on bachelor nation.com.
There’s nothing on their own website that shows that this guy, if somebody was interested and was like. Hey, when’s the Golden Mattress starting? Let me go to their website. Nothing on there. So while they did announce him in April, it’s not like they’ve been shoving him down our throats because, and do they normally, he’s nowhere to be found
before the show starts shooting.
Are they normally parading him on podcasts? Not usually,
I would think. But there’d be, there’d be something out there. He’s just, my thinking is at this point, it’s a lot a hell of a lot easier to replace him. I think a lot of the contestants who probably are like, I don’t want to go on your show. If this guy’s our bachelor, like they could form their own mini coup.
Even though the contestants don’t know each other. Just call up their producer and say, I saw what this guy said. I’m 64, he’s not picking me. Why do I want to go on the show?
Save me for another season. Yeah,
pick another one of Jones men. They’ve already got them. They have a fan base. Like why they even went with Mel Owens in the first place.
I have no idea. He was not part of the franchise
and well, half of them went over to Paradise.
Not as many as they’re, they’re promoting only six. Only
six. Yeah, that’s true in
paradise. So,
and not even like the front runners either.
Exactly. So I mean, there were a couple that got eliminated fairly early that went down in Paradise.
So you have the ability to replace him. I just, all I know is if I’m the network, I can’t trot this guy out there. He can’t, none. He’s shown us who he is. He’s not interested in 60-year-old women. So why is he our golden bachelor?
It his fault for saying this unless he has to. Unless he comes out and says like,
I won’t believe him if he says it
exactly.
’cause it would be a lie. It would totally be a lie.
We know he’d be saying it because the show told him to, or they’re like. You gotta apologize because some people even said to me today, well, what if they just make it like all the women coming outta the limo, making jokes about what he said? I’m like, but that’s not the golden bat.
Nobody wants to watch that because they wanna tune in to think, you know, look
true. Love
I, I understand. Yeah, exactly. You have to at least have this facade that everybody there is interested in possibly finding somebody. And this guy has basically broken the facade. At this point because of this interview that look, it was also not Bachelor affiliated.
I think you can get out of it by just saying, not even addressing what he said and just say he broke his NDA and he broke his contract by going on a non-affiliated podcast.
Wait, what was the podcast again? Do you remember?
It was called, em go blue. ’cause he went to the University of Michigan, so it was a, oh, it
was totally like, not even a pol no.
A entertainment podcast.
No, it was a football. He, I think the host is, the host of that podcast is named John Janssen. Just my sports background. I think John Janssen is a former football player at Michigan and they just brought him home. That’s also
Shannon Bader’s, ex-boyfriend from Real Housewives of oc.
That’s like a, that’s a house. Oh, John Jansen is

Jansen. I don’t know. I, I doubt it. Okay. Doubt it.
Then it would get a lot more press, actually.
Yeah. So yeah, it, it was, it was a football blog, well, a sports blog.
They said, Hey, one of our, one of our alumni is gonna be the next golden match. ’cause the guy that asked him the question, John, this John Jansen guy that hosts the podcast. Clearly had never watched the show before because he even asked him, he is like, so did you get a say in how, who you got to pick to be on your show?
And he is like, no, no, no, no. They, I, I don’t see them until they get outta the limo. So the guy had no idea. It was just almost like. Hey, an alumni is gonna be the golden Bachelor. Let’s bring ’em on. So yeah. And you haven’t
talked to anyone that’s like behind the scenes in production or anything to know like, no.
What’s going on there?
No. ’cause I just started talking about this on Thursday. Once that clip started making the rounds. I played the clip on my podcast Thursday and I talked about it Thursday, Friday, yesterday. We’re talking about it today, like, I don’t know, we’re all just in wait and see mode, but I’m just speaking as somebody who’s a television viewer knows how networks work.
I just, nobody in the history of the show. Even if you go back to the other, you know, incoming bachelors or bachelorettes. You still have to have this facade. You might think that they’re all out there to promote themselves and build their own brand, which a lot of ’em are, but that’s accepted at this point.
But none of them before their season have ever aired have said, yeah, not really interested in being the Bachelor, but I know it’s a great gig. I know we can make some money out of this post show, and I. Nobody’s ever said that this guy has broken this facade that we’re supposed to believe everybody is there and is interested in finding love.
And I think, I think you gotta cut him. I think you gotta recast or, you know, cancel the show. I don’t know.
No, you can’t cancel the show. They have too much of a goldmine, but they’re not getting number one. He’s still the pinned post on Golden Batch A, b, C on Instagram. That’s what I’m seeing. He is not getting any.
Like every article, if you Google him, every single thing that comes up is like, fans are pissed.
Yeah.
People are angry. Like no one’s happy. There’s no positive spin from PR or, or from press. Like, yeah. You would think by now, two, three days after it’s hit like the airwaves that that. A-B-C-P-R would come back with something,
something, and they’ve said nothing.
They’ve said nothing. I just don’t,
I just don’t think they can sweep. I, like I said, if this was just the content creators who cover the show like myself, they could easily ignore us. But the fact that it’s everywhere and every Google of Golden Bachelor brings up what this guy said on a podcast, I, I just don’t see how you can trot him out there as your golden Bachelor Now, nobody’s gonna buy it, and you can’t, like you said.
Have him apologize because nobody’s gonna believe it. We heard the interview. He can’t say, oh, I was being flippant. It was just a buddy. I was just having fun. No, I’m, I’m fine. Like I said, I’m fine with him wanting a 45 to 6-year-old woman. I, I, I get it. I understand. He’s 66, his wife is 40, his ex-wife is 46 years old.
Like. I knew it from the beginning that this guy wasn’t gonna be interested in 60-year-old women. I always had my and my ears up on this guy,
and then
he just put his foot in his mouth on that podcast and I, I don’t know what they’re gonna do. I guess we’re just in wait and see mode of what’s gonna happen, but it’s gonna be pretty positive.
He’s
getting really killed in on online about it. Oh,
really? Killed, destroyed. No. Put it this way. There’s nobody that’s coming out saying. Yeah, kind of agree with this guy. Like I, I, I see it.
It’s just like No, and the people that do agree with it, that’s fine. Like you totally can, but it’s not for Bachelor.
Exactly. It’s not for, you can absolutely want to date somebody 15, 20 years younger than you when you’re 66, but you can’t if you’re the next Golden Bachelor, because the Golden Bachelor is going to give you nothing but 60-year-old contestants, which you literally said if they’re over 60, I’m cutting them.
How could this guy be the golden Bachelor now? No, he’s gotta recast, but logistic. It’s not a match.
There’s so many other men that could be such good. Exactly. Yeah. It’s the
logistics thing that I don’t know about. Is it too late in the process to bring somebody else in? How do you PR around this? Do you just say, we’ve decided to go in a different direction?
I guess you could. I guess you just leave it at that. Everybody knows what he said. Don’t even relive it. Just say. We’ve decided on a new Golden Bachelor. Here he is. Like I, I don’t know. Or
they could do some like great spin and say like, what we’re trying to do here is find real love. And like they could do, I could see it, like I could see Jesse Palmer doing some like voiceover.
Whoever does the doesn’t Jesse do the hosting of the show. Yeah. I could see him doing like. Folks we’re here to find real love. And when we found out that our former Golden Bachelor wasn’t here for the right match of Golden Bachelor, we’re looking for women of all agents. You know what I mean? Yeah.
So anyway, it, it’s gonna be fascinating to find out because I, when I first came out with this, I said, you know what?
This show is so proficient in sweeping stuff under the rug. They’ve had a lot of issues that they just never address publicly. I could just see them ignoring this and just casting him. But that was before it hit all the major sites. And I said, I, I put it on Friday. I said, I put it at 10%. They recast this guy now.
I, I would be surprised if he’s not recast I that. What do you
think it was the thing that like really blew it up? Which, which site really blew it up do you think?
Or was it all of them? I know if it was, I don’t know if it was a particular site to be honest with you. I just, I just think the fact that all of that it’s wildfire run with it.
Yeah. All of them are run with it if it was one. But when you have US People, entertainment Weekly, eon Online, page six, Hollywood Reporter, the Cut Variety, they’ve all run it. There’s no way around it.
The truth is women are the fans of this show. Yeah. And if you have pissed off women, good luck. It’s over.

Gary. I always get him. I, I started to turn on Gary. I. I thought he was a big old scam artist and a liar, and boy were we right. But he was, he, I still enjoyed watching him, but the first couple episodes he seemed so sweet. But once you turn on these guys, it’s, it changes the game.
You have to love The Bachelor.
