Daily Roundup 11/3 – My Rant on Why the Pascal Interview Has Been Taken Down And How I’m Kinda Flattered By It, & My Back To the Future Weekend

Okay, the rest of the podcast is going to be about some happy stuff. I’m not thrilled about what happened with Pascal, but I wanna spend the rest of the podcast talking about Back to the Future, and this will probably be one of the last few days we do, because all of last week I gave you the back to the future fact.

It was the 40 year anniversary re-release. Some of you went and saw it this weekend. If you followed me on social media yesterday, I went and saw it. Grapevine Mills Mall, a MC Theater, and all the a MC theaters that were reshowing. It had commemorative gadgets that you could buy. I bought a $35 plastic DeLorean car where the doors pop open and you can put your popcorn in the DeLorean.

If you saw the picture, it’s on my Instagram stories. Go check it out. Now, the actual DeLorean did not come with popcorn. You had to buy the popcorn separately and then you would just put it in there and it was just a way to reach in and get it. So it’s not like that was the popcorn thing. You just basically.

Bought a commemorative DeLorean and you had the ability to put popcorn in there. You didn’t have to, but when you think about it, it was kind of silly because I had the bag of popcorn that I just ate out of, but for aesthetic purposes, did I put some popcorn in the DeLorean so I could just reach in there and eat popcorn?

Yes. Totally unnecessary. Absolutely. So. I don’t really have any facts for you, but I, there were a couple things, like I’ve told you, I’ve seen back to the future so many times. Every time I watch it now, all I look for is things I might have missed in previous viewings. That’s all I care about. I know every line of the movie.

I know every scene of the movie what’s gonna happen. So all I’m looking for is did I possibly miss something or think about things that I never thought about before? Two things came up when I was watching yesterday’s, and I’ve thought about these before, but I haven’t brought them up on this podcast, so I’ll bring them up now.

Actually, one of them is something I hadn’t looked for before and I looked for it yesterday and got my answer. And then the other one was something I have thought about before, and that’s this, let’s go, let’s go with that one first. When Marty gets hit by Lorraine’s dad’s car wakes up in her bedroom and he sees his mother 30 years earlier.

She’s obviously got the hots for him. They go downstairs. I, I mean, just, just a classic, classic scene. Saying, you know, our first television, do you have a television? Marni? Yeah, I have two. Wow. You must be rich. And then he says he’s seen that episode of the gla Jackie Gleason Show, or the Honeymooners, whatever one it was.

How have you seen this brand new? I saw it on a rerun. What’s a rerun? You know how many times my friends and I say to each other, what’s a rerun? I don’t know. Daily. Anyway, further ahead in that scene, Marty. Who was obviously there. He needs to find 1955 doc and he rips ear earlier in the episode. When he is in the cafe, he rips out the phone book that has doc’s address and he asks the father, his future father-in-law, Hey, do you know where Riverside Drive is?

And the di and the father tells him, yeah, other side of town block past Maple and Marty’s like block past Maple. That’s John F. Kennedy Drive. And the father says, who the hell is John F. Kennedy? Now, for the longest time, I always thought, how does this family not know who John F. Kennedy is? This is 1955.

John F. Kennedy becomes president in 1960. But then I thought about it deeper after the movie yesterday, and I’m like, actually, you know what? Why would a family of four in Southern California who just got their first television. And obviously no social media back then. How would they know who John F.

Kennedy is? You know, if they were an East Coast family, I’m sure they would’ve heard it on the news. Hey, so I wanted to Google, when did John F. Kennedy first become a senator and he first became a senator? He was voted in 1952, took over in 1953. So yeah, I guess a Southern California family just going about their life.

And just getting their first television. Yeah, they wouldn’t know about a senator in Massachusetts two years after he is elected. So that answered my question because for the longest time I’m like, they didn’t know a guy who was ended up being president five years later. Gotta put yourself back in 1955.

Not a hell of a lot of social media. Media back then. Yeah, and they had just gotten their TV so they couldn’t even watch the news. Where maybe would the news in 1955 in Southern California even cover the Senator race in Massachusetts? Probably not. So, yeah, then answered my question once again, a very accurate detail that they were very good on in that movie.

Here’s the other detail that I was looking for, and that is this. If you fast forward to the end result, when Marty is back in 19 55, 1 of the things that he wants to do is warn Doc what happens on the day that Marty goes back in time, which is Doc getting shot by the Libyan terrorists. And we know that Doc doesn’t want to hear anything about it.

Plugs his ears says Marty, one man can’t know too much about his own future. So Marty writes him a letter and puts it in his jacket pocket. And just as about, just as Marty is about to get set up to go to the starting point where he needs to be on November 12th, 1955 so he can drive down the road and they timed it out perfect.

So when the clock tower gets struck by lightning at 10:04 PM it will transport Marty back to 1985. Now. Sidebar. One question you could throw into that. Why were there absolutely zero cars on the road where Marty didn’t have to weave through any sort of traffic? I mean, it was only 10 o’clock at night.

You’re telling me that were No, I mean, you literally never saw a car on the road that night. Marty didn’t have to ever, as he’s getting up to 88 miles an hour at 10 o’clock at night in, I know it’s a small town, hill Valley, very small town. But the actual meeting point where he goes back to 1985 is literally in downtown Hill Valley.

Okay. I’m nitpicking, but you know what I’m, you know what I’m getting at? Kind of amazing that Marty didn’t have one other car on the street when he had that open road to get up to 80, 88 miles an hour to get sent back to 1985. But going back to my point, so Marty writes him a letter, puts it in his jacket pocket and Doc.

Before Marty’s about to get set up, finds the letter in his jacket pocket, sees that it says, do not open until 1985, realizes Marty has written him a letter about what’s gonna happen to him and Doc rips up the letter. Now we know at the end of the movie he had

taped and laminated the letter back together. So my question was, and I had never thought about this, I wanna actually see in the movie. After doc rips up the letter, did he throw it in a trash can or did he put it back in his pocket and I got my answer yesterday. As Doc had ripped up the letter and who knows what he was gonna do with it, maybe he was gonna walk over to a trash can.

That is the exact moment that the tree fell because of all the wind and unplugged doc’s, contraption of. The wires leading up to the light posts and Doc is like, oh my gosh. Or he actually says, great Scott. And you can see him basically say, as they realize they have to go put the stuff back together. You see his right hand with the ripped up letter in his right hand, go back into his jacket pocket.

It’s literally a one second clip. But you gotta understand, this is what I look for when I watch this movie now. So many little things.

The Burger King in the very opening scene when Marty walks into the room to go play his guitar on the amp, all the Burger King rappers that are on Marty’s bed, Marty was kind of a slob because this guy ate in bed all the time, apparently. Or Doc did whoever bed that was in that room that had all the clocks and the giant amp.

Seems like Marty stayed there and there were a bunch of Burger King rappers literally next to his pillow and on the nightstand, but it’s another conversation for another day. I’m telling you, we’re gonna have a lot of fun when we watch this live and we do a live rewatch of Back to the Future on my Patreon channel.

Coming soon. We’ll keep you updated on that. But yeah, that was one of the things I was looking for yesterday was when Doc ripped up the letter. Did he throw it in a trash can? And then obviously we know he got it back. ’cause clearly we saw what happened in 1985. He had taped the letter back together, but where did he put it after he ripped it up And you can clearly see, even though it’s one second you gotta look for it, he clearly put it back in his pocket.

And obviously over the next 30 years he decided, uh, maybe I should check and see what Marty wanted to warn me about. So, um. It was nostalgic watching the movie. Now, like I said, the re-release was only this weekend and I saw it in imax. I’ll be honest with you, there wasn’t anything about that movie that screamed IMAX to me.

It just looked like I was watching it in hd, like I didn’t notice. Maybe it was louder because it was in IMAX theater and the, they had better speakers, but nothing on screen jumped out to me like, whoa. I could totally tell. It just looked like I was watching it in very high definition. I mean so, but again, totally irrelevant to me.

I’m glad I got to see it again in a theater. I haven’t seen it in 10 years in a theater since I went to the 30 year re-release 10 years ago, and I got to get a $35 DeLorean to put my popcorn in. I had to take the popcorn from my bag and put it in the DeLorean and then eat it out of there. I only did that once.

I didn’t just keep filling up the DeLorean so I could keep eating outta the DeLorean. I did it once and I’m like, okay, just eat it outta the bag, Steve. So anyway, that was my Sunday and it was a glorious Sunday. Anyway, thank you all for listening. I really appreciate it. Follow me on Apple Podcast. Also rate and review, but you gotta hit play.

It’s the only way it counts as a download Daily Roundup or Sports Daily coming up in an hour from now. And I will be keeping you updated on when this Patreon channel is going to start. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. Um, it’s not gonna be anything where, I mean, maybe I, I’m still determining exactly everything that’s going to be on it.

Maybe there will be some breaking news stuff that I do on there, but. It’s going to be more of a fun time channel and almost calling it the, uh, reality Steve family to where we all just kind of get to hang out. And I’ll get to talk about things. You’ll get to chime in on a live chat and stuff like that.

So it’s coming sometime, uh, this month. Anyway, again, thank you all for listening. I appreciate it, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

See ya.
